Very nice work animegurl. If you want to add some depth to those tresses in the hair, consider taking an eraser, and at the defined lines of each tress, swipe the eraser. This gives the illusion of depth and lustre as seen in natural hair.

Very serene look to the face.

here is one that i did just recently... for me & PG

ChibiToaster
January 20th, 2005, 04:23 AM
Okay. First off, I want to say that you're doing a great job. Coloring is hard, and it shows dedication. Inking is a lot of work and it shows dedication. I see a lot of anime drawings here, and most are pencilled only, almost all of them are head shots, I'd say a good 80% of any given person's drawings look alike with the exception of the costume and hair, and yours are definitely different people. You have all that going for you.

But there are a couple of things that you could do to immediately improve. First off, you need to start your figures with a skeletal struction. I can tell that the tennis one has had more study than the standing figures. Believe me, from about 12 years of professional experience, I can safely say that one of the hardest things to believably draw is a person just standing there in front of the camera.

I can also tell that you're infatuated by the "anime style" of drawing. And that's fine for sketchbooks and throwaway things, but for anyone who wants to take comics, art, or animation as a future occupation/career, it's going to be a tremendous handicap. I'm working right now in one of my drawing classes, to try to get some of these kids to look at real facial structure and not base all their drawings on anime style. The sooner you do this, the sooner your anime style drawings will start getting better.

You have some pretty impressive strengths...

Oh, for the horse... look up Muybridge on google images. He was the first to do a full photo study of a horse, and has all of the horse's mid-gallop poses. ^_^

Good luck.

LadyAkuma
January 20th, 2005, 05:54 PM
Keep working. Colored pencils are very fun to use, and shading will become easier as you use them. Don't forget you can use different colors to shade!

Also, I do like you art AG, just in case you got the impression otherwise. You remind me of myself, except you seem to experiment more.

I'm going to tell you the one thing that my figure drawing teacher told me that changed my opinion on shading.

He said that every time there's a plane change, you do a value change. In other words, as a face goes from the front to the side, there should be a change in the darkness. Also where it goes from the eyebrow to the eyelid, it changes the plane's angle. And the underside of the nose, and the sides of the nose, etc.

You can't learn this by looking at anime art. Look at some American comic artists, or the masters from the renaissance, and they all do much better jobs at teaching shading.

Look up Hellboy. Talk about the leader in shading. It's either black or white with him (red, actually), but you can definitely see where the planes change and where the contours of the face are just by how it's shaded.

very nice :D but few lil things I have to notice, I think her forehead has to be placed more in the front so that the distance between nose and forehead is a bit shorter(understand 0.o) the boys arm can have some more details too I think(muscles/ripples in clothes?)

Ag, the last two ones you posted are absoloutley b-e-a-utiful! I love the way you draw the hair and the eyes are uber pretty. Gotta be a critic: on the one w/ the guy and girl- you should tweak the expression so she doesn't look so sad, and perhaps if she leaned into the kiss a bit more. The guys height is a bit off, but it would look really good if you made it a full picture and he was holding her, then it would be good. But anyway, I love them, they're sooooo cute!
