After the emotional rollercoaster from the anime I'm wondering how these two will turn out. Checking out the small teaser page on the official website, the OVA, now subtitled Another Love Song, looks like it's going to be an offshoot of sorts. Since I can't read any of the text I can't tell if Shuji or Chise will even be a part of it.

I'm not a big fan of live action because every live action I've seen (admittedly very few) were pretty bad. Still, I wonder if the live action will stack up to the anime at all. Either way it will be interesting to see whether it takes a new story or tries to recreate the anime/manga.

For those that liked the anime, anyone excited/happy/angry/sad that they're going to make even more Saikano?

I'm excited for it, but most of the anime sequels (or continuation with a OAV) didn't live up to the first one.

Honestly, any story that either tells of the birth of Chise or a continuation after the original series would absolutely destroy the melancholy granduer of it alltogether.

I was so angry for that reason of their being an OVA but now I'm glad to hear that it is Another Love Song, hopefully a side story of another pair being affected in some way by what was happening. Personally I think they shouldn't even touch any more on Shuji or Chise, its the only way to leave the magnificent original story intact and still get away with an OVA.

As for the live action series, will just have to see. I wouldn't mind seeing live actors and thier take on Saikano.

Seeing as how the series ended, I can't possibly think of how they could make a continuation from that point. I'd figure it would take place during the same time frame as the series or before it.

As for whether Shuji and Chise should be in it, on one hand I agree that it would probably be a terrible idea to bring them back. On the other, I'd be interested in learning a few of the unknown details on Chise.

There really isn't that much more to figure out on Chise. Alot of the fun of the original series was the mystery and the ability to extrapolate all of this info on the war from simply what we are seeing. If you search the forums at Anime News Network you can find a few threads with some deep discussions on the war and alot more and all this just from what we have seen already.

I like the shroud of mystery and being spoon fed everything just eliminates so much...I dunno how to say it...just so much of everything.

Anyways, I was very skeptical of the OVA being a continuation of some sort. It was very hard to picture how they would go from that point if they did, which would just completely ruin the show anyways. Now that we know a bit more about the new series, I would like to see it and hear some more details on what it is exactly about.

If you can find someone to loan you the DVDs, give it a shot. It really is a good anime. Just be prepared for a lot of sad scenes.

Is anyone able to translate what's up top on the OVA page (http://www.saikano.net/ova/) and verify if it's a DVD release date or not? The numbers would lead me to believe it's either January 2, 2005 or February 1, 2005. I just hope whenever it comes on DVD that they decide to include english subtitles like they did with the series. That'll give me even more of an incentive to put a preorder on it.

I'm very exited, I love the anime and manga, and yet I'm also very skeptical. As how the series ended, how could you make an OAV that could compare? and will new characters be any good either? Can they match the origionals. Either way I just want to check it out and see if its any good or not.

Live action sounds fun to watch though.

I'm quite happy about this, and I'm very curious about how the live action is going to be. I wonder where the OVA will go, but I don't think would pick up at the end of series because of course Chise destroyed everything leaving only Shuuji alive.

For all those interested a small clip of scenes from the OVA has been released on the official website (http://www.saikano.net). Click on the link directly above what's new to see it. Summer 2005 seems so far away...

That being said...
Looks like Chise is making a return. Also looks like they're going to go into her creation as an ultimate weapon also. The pic that loads up next to the trailer shows the new character with wings similar to Chise leading me to form all sorts of conspiracy theory storylines in my head. Can't wait until this comes out :) .

I think it will also delve a bit more into Chise being turned into the Ultima Weapon, but instead of from Chise and Shuuji's perspective, it will possibly be from some soldiers perspective who might have gone through a process similiar to what Chise went through...

This new OVA is sounding better and better the more I hear about it. Now I'm looking more forward to it than ever before.

To be anywhere close to effective, these stories would have to deal with a completely different story in the world. Maybe the OVA could delve more into Chise a bit, but I really don't think it's necessary. It could very well detract from the original series.

In regards to the live action, if it's focused on either Chise or Shuji, I don't see how they can do it well. One of the main benifits of anime is that you can show things that would looks completely unrelealistic and make it where you can believe it in the context of the story. In live action, I don't see how they could show bombs or big guns or whatever else Chise can spit out while making it look plausable in the slightest. And you couldn't show anywhere close to the level of gruesome things in the series without turning most people's stomachs. One of the problems I had with Saikano was that they had to use this gruesomeness to evoke emotion about characters the hadn't been developed to the point where you'd feel the same otherwise. It worked in the series, wouldn't in live action. I hope I'm proved wrong though.....we'll see.

Yeah, the trailer actually looks very good. Plus Aki Maeda is really lovely, and did a great job in Battle Royale. She seems an excellent choice for Chise. I'm certainly hoping the movie gets licensed in R1.

I don't have much of a desire to see the movie, I don't see how they can cram the story in to 2 hours and make it good. I may see it anyway. As for the OVA, I've ordered it, but it hasn't come in yet.

I will buy the OVA later this year (haven't seen it yet but I'll still buy it anyway), and I really want to see the live action movie. I wish it would be released in the US...

Well, Shuji always did look somewhat older than those around him, or at the very least, that was my first impression of him when I first saw him. As for the actors, they all look like they'd fit the roles as far as looks go. And to nitpick, it's Atsushi and Akemi.

Jeikobu

I think the actors/actresses look good for their roles. Man I really want to see that movie...

I'm really wanting to see this movie too. I'm hoping Viz will pick it up, since they have all the rest of Saikano.

Jeikobu
June 8th, 2006, 07:40 PM
I hope not, I don't like Viz. If it's an anime company that picks it up, then I'd want Funimation.

akpookie
June 8th, 2006, 09:45 PM
^so, did you think that Viz did a bad job with it's release of Saikano (the series and the manga)? I disagree with them not adding subtitles for the songs, but other than that, I have no issues with them. I can't imagine Viz letting it go to another company, anyways, since they already have the tv series, manga, and ova.

The romanize things poorly, and change the credits and partially the logo to English. As for the manga, they change the sound effects to English. Being a big purist, this matters to me. I don't remember how good their translation of the dialogue in the anime was, and I don't know at all how good is was for the manga. However, I disliked much of their sub job on Inuyasha, so that gives me a bad impression of Viz's translations.

Just watched the Live Action movie today. Not bad, they did a pretty good job of it, considering the time squeze. There were a few changes I didn't like too much, but all in all a good movie.

is the movie fansubed at all yet?
And the actors do lok good, except for Akemi, she needs to look more tomboyish.

Not to my knowledge, I watched it raw, which isn't much of a problem since I have some understanding of the language and generally know what's going on anyway.

Just watched it. It was okay. The CGI looked pretty good, the storyline just seemed crappy compared to the anime/manga. Though like any book -> movie transition, you gotta cut stuff out. The ending especially threw me off...
