I heard that ROD is really good from reviews that I've read. Some I was thinking buying with my x-mas money. I know about a girl that is an agent and she can turn paper into any kind of weapon. But, I know what y'all thought of this anime.

Well the Read or Die OVA is excellent. Good animation, great music, and awesome action scenes. The Read or Die TV show a.k.a R.O.D TV still has action but uses more of a story that makes it IMO alot better then the ova. I would suggest both and try to get the collector's box that comes with the first volume but it might be hard to find now.

I loved the Read or Die OAV, it's a great short action show. The TV series was ok, but I didn't like it quite as well.

I personally thought both the TV anime series and the OVA were convoluted and boring.. The action and the animation were great, but the story just bogged down everything IMO.
They were decent for the first watch through, but I just couldn't get myself to watch it again. It has cute girls and all, but the premise is really weird. A lot of reviews like the series, and a few of them don't. I'm with the alternate camp on this one.
Nothing wrong going with the majority vote of course.

The OVA I enjoyed quite a bit. I can't say much about the series because I have not seen it all but from what I have seen it is decent.

I've actually enjoyed the TV series as much as the OVA's. I'm still pissed at G4TechTV for suspending the series right when the girls are fighting Mr Wong. Bastards!

The OVAs are a lot of fun, with a couple of the better LOL moments I've encountered in anime. I like the TV series even better, though, at least so far (three DVDs in). In addition to the action stuff, it's got a sweetness I find charming.

I have the OVa and currently am on vol 3 of ROD TV and I can attest that both are really good shows on their own. I suggest starting with Read or Die OVA. Its a very James bond feeling show, and yomiko is EXTREMELY cute ^^
ROD TV has 3 new main characters, 3 "paper sisters" all of whom are great characters. Yomiko has gone missing in ROD TV and her old friend Nenene Sumerigawa is looking for her.

I'm actually in the minority of seeing the OVA after seeing episodes of the TV series, I don't know if that's not the best way to watch it but it didn't take anything away from it for me. The series and OVA are so different in so many ways, but I love them both a lot and Genon/Pioneer can't release the DVDs fast enough!
I even lent my discs to my (48 year old) mom as she's a book loving research librarian so I thought she'd appreciate it. She completely loved them and now almost everytime we talk she asks about the next DVD release date! It's too cute.

You should watch the OVA first then the TV series since some characters from the OVA comes into the TV series. I wished they released each volume every month. I just can't wait for vol. 4.

Firstly, both the OVA and TV Series I consider to be very good anime. Great characters with an original plot.
Second, if youre the type to be impatient with new episodes coming out, I would get the OVA first, seeing that the Series is not completely out here in the US.
(note: I would see the OVA first anyways, it helps fill in plot holes when watching the series)

I was just watching ROD TV at a friend's house and in ep12 about 9 min 43 seconds into the episode, when the book was being scanned, it made the same sound as the ST-TNG doorbells.
ROD TV ep12 (http://www.tesuji.org/rod_ep12_scan.mp3)
ST-TNG doorbell (http://www.tesuji.org/sttng_doorbell.mp3)
Coincidence or homage?

The OVA is really cool.
The TV series starts out well and then gets pretty bad around the second half of the story. Now that I'm thinking about it... really bad actually- just watch the first half... maybe until 13 or 14, and forget the rest.

I thought the second half was great. We got closure, and it ended well. The action was on par with everything that had happened in the first half, as was the animation. What about it didn't you like? And what language were you watching it in? This actually does impact the series greatly, but I hated the dub, Yomiko in particular, and having to listen to that on top of the horror that was dub Wendy for the last half of the series would have killed if for me.

Geez, I thought the dub was great but I prefer the OVA dub more. Carrie Savage is too cute for Nancy in the TV series.
Although knowing you I'd be surprised if you did like it, like most dubs.

"Strongly Recommended"
Anyway, I sort of agree with her but I don't consider the 2nd half bad. I enjoyed the paper sisters drama & their missions more than the second half where it feels like most of the time they are just running & hiding until the end.

You would need to watch the movie in order to understand the anime.Events from the movie are mentioned in the anime,so if you watch the anime first, you would not understand it.

You are right that I'm picky with dubs. I find I like New Gen better than most other studios, but the accents in ROD were horrid. That was the real problem for me. Didn't like Nancy at all, though. The voice didn't fit the character at all. Michelle was good, as were Anita and Junior. The rest... I just couldn't take it, though I did think the OVA was worse. Loving Kamichu! though, and I believe it's a lot of the same people, so I'm baffled. That's why I blame the director and the horrible accents.
