Cant find much info on Ninja Scroll Movie 2

What I remember from a while ago (subject to change of course):
-Directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri
-Target release date is 2005
-There are plans of using CG in tandem with traditional 2D animation, but currently, the idea is to use CG for fast-paced action scenes and for a moving camera, not for general animation.
-No word yet on the relation of Ninja Scroll 2 to the other variations of Jubei's travels.

I've been wondering about this a lot lately. It seemed as if Kawajiri was really already at work on it. I mean, there was this interview with him on the 10th Anniversary DVD from Manga Entertainment and while he didn't reveal anything about the plot he spoke about his ambitions for the sequel.

Then, a few months later, it was announced that Kawajiri would direct HIGHLANDER: THE SEARCH OF VENGEANCE and that seems to have been what he did for the past two years.

Now, the HIGHLANDER anime is coming out in a few days. Does that mean Kawajiri is returning to NINJA SCROLL 2 or is the project dead and has fallen by the wayside? Could the disappointing NINJA SCROLL TV series have anything to do with the delay/cancellation of NINJA SCROLL 2?

Since it's been years with no concrete details, I'm under the impression that the second anime film and the planned American live action film have both been shelved.
