I got all the volumes up to #16, and i must say i love it! Kyo is one badass character and he would probably be my #2 favorite bad-guy-who-is-good, just after Alucard (if u ever get to volume 16 u'll see why i just think kyo is soo cool-awesome) also, the graphics are superb and unique...just try copying them to see ;) . Other than that, the plot is interesting and keeps you wanting more..what more can you get? :P

Is the manga better than the anime?

It depends i have all the mangas and have seen every eiodes twice of yu yu. but in the manga yusuke smokes, their is more cursing, more voilence, more blood, and etc.... I for one like the manga and anime equal its a hard choice.

Supposedly, the anime sucks since it doesn't adhere to the manga's story and misses many important plot points crucial to the development of the story...

Kyo's my favorite bad-*** hero, he's cool! I really like the characters in Kyo ^^ Bontemaru, Akira, Shinrei, Hotaru, Benitora, Sasuke, Yuya etc... ALL of them are great and they bring the story to life, if it wasn't for them the store wouldn't be as interesting. I took a certain liking to the two half brother (know who I'm talking 'bout right?).

Isn't there anything cooler than seeing Kyo perform the Suzaku technique?

Oh and for anybody interested I am ALSO a fan of Kenshin... and personally those two shouldn't be compared.

Too true, the two series are being compared wayy too much for my liking, seeing as they are two fundamentaly different series (kyo having fanservice, whereas Kenshin does not), and having read the whole series and owning half, i'm quite well placed to judge it...

firey? ooo ya! Akimine Kamijyo has such a unique art style O_O he makes fire so demon-looking! and yes, keykoku is kool by just trying to do what kyo wants (to be the strongest)

I saw the anime first and hated it, and I assumed the manga was no different but a friend of mine made me read the first volume. Since then I have been hooked. I've only read four volumes so far, but it's a great read. I love Sanada Yukimura and Benitora.

The manga goes from 'great' to AWESOME around vol 6-7-8 IMO... and that's just the begining of the deeper story.

The manga has none of those stupid ken'yo monsters who are basically therej ust so Kyo can kill his enemies without censoring!

And the character depth is much better in the manga, and Yuya isn't as useless!

Yuya is a pivotal character in the manga, she's the one who links Kyo's gang together, she's a generator of the story as well and she gets her own Muramasa blade :p

There's a few characers we haven't seen in Vol 16 but saw in vol. 15 I'd like to know what's up with them...

I agree that the character depth is a lot more important and Yuya is quite the colorfull person (the mighty Kyoshiro can do NOTHING against Yuya's torture *glee* :P)

Shinrey isn't the only good character...there's also Taihaku, who seems so powerful in his wisdom...as for chinmei...whoa, thats going to be a tuff fight....>_<

You're forgetting he used the mizuchi originaly...and its prolly going to be one of his companions...he simply can't defeat all 5 without going into overlimit...

i love it! kyos hot...teehee it was the first manga ive ever bought woah! i love it! but its reallt big and has a bout 24 vol! the anime is shorter its onlny 6 vol.

I saw the anime first, and liked it. But after awhile it sort of wore on me. The story seemed sort of haphazard, and I thought the whole kenyo thing was just silly.
Now I've been borrowing the manga from a friend, and it's awesome. The artwork is beautiful, and you get a much more in-depth view of the characters. Yukimura is so interesting because of his complexities. And Sasuke is just cool. Plus, the story just all-around makes more sense. I think they tried to stuff a long series into too few volumes.
So the anime wasn't yuck, but the manga is a billion times better.

The Ken'yo thing was just so Kyo could still slice up the enemies while still remaining around the 13+ ratings and stuff.

Yeah Kyo used to use the Mizuchi, but I'd like to see the Byakko, Genbu and Seiryu!

Yukimura is very dificult to understand, he's always shifty and keeps his plans hidden... guess he's a natural pal for Chinmei :p I wonder if we'll ever see the other 7 Warriors of the Sanada... and if they're any good.

I consider Vol 6. one of the main milestone of the Kyo manga, because it's from there that the supernatural side started developping, with Akira's AWESOME display of power!!! Woot! I love that scene where he freezes Kubira.

Samurai Deeper Kyo is full of mystery and enigmas... and the characters all seam to know lots of stuff but don't say a thing :p Yuya is like us, she's usually left in the dark XD.

French simply seems to elevate to a more sophysticated level the tone of the story...but Anime would be ruined if it was in french though...

I know what you mean... my friend bought King of Bandit Jing (the manga is really sucky too) and I got Figure 17 vol 1 (sucks too, especially compared to the anime)... and it doesn't feel the same. I read a few chapters from the French version and it's really different.

Anime in French usually don't sound good... I blame the french voice actors who suck half the time or don't take it seriously enough... the more serious shows aren't that bad most of the time tough... I'm satisfied with my Escaflowne mono-language (dirt cheap) dvds and tghe French track on my Eva DVD.

Hmm, how long did it take you to learn japanese?? It's because i'd like to, too. Oh, yes i'd also like to know if you've learned any other languages or if english was your only and first one to know (this is to evaluate the time i would need to learn...)

If you're starting from scratch, you might probably need quite a number of years to actually reach a level where you can carry out a conversation without stuttering, checking dictionaries or having to think up your lines in English and translate them into Japanese.

how did u get up to 16??im only up to 9 and i visit the bookstore everyday....its not fair..this is such a slow little state...::beats fists on the floor and cries::

Kanjis arent really that hard..stare at them long enough and they'll be permenetly etched in ur brain. and they have those japanese for dummies videocassttes and disks..just play one in ur cd player all night on repeat and you'll wake up the next morning talking japanese naturally!! its foolproof!!

hahahahaha no. i like the manga in english, although i tried reading it in japanese once. it sounded more natural in japanese than it does in english, but they did do a pretty good job in translating. i love the way they keep the sfx in japanese though, its more original!! not like the way shonen jump translates every bit and it comes out all whacked out...ah well, they do have some good books.

Well...

According to Bontenmaru, Akira sealed his eyesight himself in order to gain the 1% of strength he couldn't acquire through effort because he lacked samurai blood. Through his sheer determination he rose himself to the level of superhumans of the Four Heavenly Skies and Kyo. It's like how your other senses become stronger when you block one out.

huh...many questions undrave...but for weapons I can tell you that chinmei won't use any weapons in volume 18 apart from his gravity...yes, chinmei did something...but won't tell you if you want to learn it from the manga itself...unfortunately volume 18 ends with the beginning of the fight between kyo and chinmei. Mireyu tried her best to defeat chinmei, the other were under a banner of gravity... chinmei let her drop into an abyss but kyo sved her... there erst only 5 minutes to kyo for defeating chinmei...it's very thrilling, you see...I'm eager to know how the fight will end...but I have to wait until february....

You know it's a really good thing Yuya is there, because all the characters seam to know each other or know what the heck is actually going on behind the scene and the past... but WE DON'T and neither does Yuya, so Yuya is like our entry into the world of Demon Eyed Kyo... most of the story is basically seen from her point of view in a way and she's the one we 'see' think most of the time. Yuya's purpose in the story is mostly to ask questions... tough she doesn'T always gets much answers XD

At least WE know Benitora's secret, while she doesn't.

Just read the character descriptions! They kept Hanzo Hattori and Ieyasu as two different character, while in the manga the one they first called Ieyasu was a standin and the real one was using the cover identity of Hanzo Hattori, leader of the Iga Ninja!

And did anyone but me noticed that in SDK there is no leader weaker than his underlings? That's cool! Even a politician like Ieyasu seams to have skill...he's the leader of Iga after all.

Lets just say that the anime and manga versions are two completely different versions. The anime is ok, but I think with only 26 eps they try to cram in too much of the magna into the storyline. Eliminating characters and changing characters around just to fit their storyline.

When the anime came out, the manga was only up to vol 18. Now the manga is now up to 30(?) maybe more now in Japan.

The magna I will agree Kicks major A@@. It's best if you stick with the manga if you have read some of it because if you are expecting it to follow the manga storyline, you will be disappointed.
The anime follows the manga to a point, but with all the monster of the week mess, youll hate it.

Now..Bastard (Vol 6 FINALLY came out) is a good anime if you can ignore the horrible subtitling.....

Mayumi: Dead sister of Mahiro and Muramasa (killed by Genza), Mayumi was a member of the Mibu Clan at one point.

Muramasa: Creator of the five most powerful weapons in all of the world, the "True Muramasas", he was once an elder of the Mibu Clan. Mahiro, from the Tokugawa clan, and Mayumi are his sisters. He helped Kyo on how to improve his Mumyo Jinpuu Ryu (Dark Wind Style) by showing him how to master the basic skill Mizuchi (Dragon Strike) and by teaching him the ultimate technique: Suzaku.

Excuse me but that's FOUR Muramasas: The Tenro, the Shibien, the Hokuraku Shimon and one unknown weapon.

Saisei and Saishi got the same description: One of the Two Mibu Clan Devil Nurses. The Devil nurses give an hell of a fight to Migeira and Benitora who had lost if Yuya hadn't find out how to defeat them.

What the more frell?? And for those wondering Migeira (Or 'Miguel' as it appears he's portugese) is an anime only character.

Santera: A member of the Jyunishinsou, Santera has the ability to manipulate people. Her childlike appearance and devious ways make her one of the more unattractive characters. She was another person that grew up in the “Sea of Trees”, like Sasuke. In the end her true self shines brighter than anything else left in that accursed forest.

Yeah, I watched the anime first. By itself, I suppose it's /okay/, but compared to the manga, it's nothing XP

I was really disappointed with Shinrei in the anime though. He fights Kyo and beats him up before losing to Muramasa like in the manga, but after that he does effectively nothing. The character description there lies. Poor Shinrei spends the last two or so episodes lying around bleeding and whining =/

That sucks because Shinrei is one of my favorite character! I hope the whole link betweem him and Hotaru is used well in the future... he also seam to have a kinder side, like when he helps that kid at Taihaku's place.

Nah, i am a VERY patient person. Usualy, and depending on what it is. :P well, i did wait a whole 4 years for dragonball to finish releasing over here...that taught me the basics...

Chinmei just lost a frickin' ARM! And he doesn't seam fazed or scared! Ya know when Mahiro broke his glasses I tought she had taken out his eye...too bad it wasn't the case.

The more I readi t the more I think vol 18 ROCKS! There's a lot of cool moments in it...

Chinmei got a few moment where he looks REALLY creepy... like when he reappears behind Kyo's back, lighting his small pipe thing or when he's sticking his tongue out or glaring at Mahiro after she hit him!

The part where Kyo says it's like if he killed Mayumi with his own hand... when he refuses Chinmei's proposal...

The funny scenes with Hotaru :p just before he went killer-machine on those Mibu underlings...

Yukimura is a really cool character ^^ he can look so girly at time but when Taihaku ask him if he believes he can take on the Mibus and he got that determined look on his face... he looks like a real man XD.

I want to see Okuni fight some more!

couldn't it be, that kyo didn't have always long hair? finally kyo and kyoshiro are both very similar to each other for what the appearance is concerned...however it's very interesting indeed...

and yeah, it's remarkable how strong kyo is even without his sword!!! looked very old, these Mibu grunts, :P
