That's not short!! It can get much shorter than that~ XD When I was studying in Japan last winter my classmates helped me shorten my skirt.. ^^;; We did a bit of cutting and folded the rest in. XD It was really.. ermmm... funny?? :P

Yeah, thanks! ^^
I'm afraid the bag looks sorta flat, though.. like there's nothing it it.. LOL~

lol I still love short skirts. The little pleated ones. ^_^ I wore little shorts under my skirt. No, skirts can get ALOT shorter, but thats the shortest I've gone. =P

I thought the bag looked great!

Really??
*^__^* That's cool, then.

Sorry I haven't been posting for some time... I've been helping out with all this charity work and stuff ever since the tsunami struck. >.< Came close to my area - I'm really glad I don't live on the coast. My sincerest condolences to those whose relatives' or loved ones' lives were lost in the recent earthquake and the tidal waves that followed.

Here's something to cheer you guys up. I've been studying Fujii Mihona's art for awhile now (in case you're not familiar with her name, she's the author of GALS!) as well as the clothes in KERA (a Japanese magazine featuring Harajuku Street Snaps) and I've been getting loads of inspiration to dress my characters up in Harajuku street clothes. Still trying to get the hang of all the folds and layers and stuff, but I'm on my way! :D

http://home.doramail.com/miyabi/spotgal.jpg
Skinny because Mihona-sensei draws her girls that way. I thought this girl looked okay though, as skinny as she is. ^^ I wanted to add screentones, but I ran out of 'em.. =___=

http://home.doramail.com/miyabi/streetgal.jpg
Okay, I sort of like the shirt because I made the star actually follow the folds. Yay. And I'm getting the shoulders to look more... well, proportionate! Been working on them ever since AE pointed them out. ^^

http://home.doramail.com/miyabi/fruits-mcover.jpg
Yay. Heard of FRUiTS? It's a magazine like KERA. Yep. Hahahahah I put the "featuring Kenjoh Miyabi" there because I needed something to fill up the empty space and well.. it serves as something like a copyright, anyway. Eheheheh. If I do start my own line, I'll probably give it some lame name that'll sound fitting in Japan like The Suzuki Drive or Lemon Range. And yes, The SD was half-inspired by SM's nickname. XD XD

Ohhhhhhhhhh very nice Kenjoh :) Gwen Stefani has a new song out about the Harajuku girls :) I like the skirts, I saw a skirt by BCBG that was silk chiffon it flowed so nice, the price was.... er... too much, but I LOVE em!!!

I like the first one 'specialy. I think it's cause the outfit looks really good on a girl that skinny. ^_^ If anyone complains you can go "BAH! (well not really 'bah') She's really not that skinny, it's just the outfit makes her look real skinny!! XP hehehe.

@ SM, yep, I've heard it. ^^ I didn't really like it, but it keeps painfully forcing itself into my head anyway. Glad you liked the art!! :D Ooh, BCBG. Now I so want my credit card... =3 Then I can graduate from Zara and Kookai to like, Dior or something! Hahahahahah.

@ Foofaraw, thanks! ^^ Just KERA taking its toll on me~ :P

@ AE, what I'd give to be that skinny too~~ LOL~ XD XD eheheh planning to colour the magazine, but still not sure what colour schemes I should dapple in.

@ Shin, HYDE or Hide? XD Ah doesn't matter I like both. :P Domo arigato! ^^

@ Gejutsuka, aw, that's really nice of you! *bows* Thank you. The New Year's just round the corner. Would you like a red packet? :P

Now all I need to do is practice s'more and convince my parents that I should be in Tokyo designing for the kids on the street. XD XD

Yes. I don't like her eyes. They turn up too much. I was lazy to erase them, though coz if I did I'd have to work at making them level again... =___=;; And as usual, I drew this just before bedtime :D

http://home.doramail.com/miyabi/champagne.jpg
Yes!
Recently all my drawings have been model-based... Hahahah, like I'm campaigning for myself. Maybe I should venture into fashion. (What a far cry from engineering. o.O;; ) Personally.. I like this picture, mainly because it's different from most of what I've drawn so far. ^^

Oof. FINALLY. ^^;;
I've been reading Landreaall by Ogaki Chika and her style's somewhat... well, influential... in a good/nice way. I like her strokes very much... the way she draws her characters with such simplicity, without any excessive detailing. ^_^ Here's how her style has been infused into my hand...

http://home.doramail.com/miyabi/co.jpg

I decided to do a more manic looking guy... unfortunately, his eyes didn't turn out the way they should've. I drew half of this lying down and the other half in the car on the way back from my grandparents' place, so do forgive the messiness. :P

The bottom left Picture's cheeck and face is too out of proportion of what the eyes are supposed to meet. The mouth also looks out of place. I suggest you fix that.

@ Suki, um, thanks again for that bit of... criticism? >_< I can't make every picture look perfect, you know. Oh well. I try.

Anyway, my friend's still in the middle of colouring my stuff... geez, she's taking an awfully long time~~ =___= In the meantime, here's something I drew up last night.. and it's a little.. well, dull because I haven't darkened the lines enough (see, stupid scanner again~ keeps lightening the dark lines... ). This time I'll colour this on my own.. hope it'll turn out nice.. ^^;;

I am so, SO sorry for making the guy look so bloody retarded. He looks pretty sissified, actually.. and I don't know what came over me to draw that what-the-heck-is-that!? logo on his shirt. And the... er, beanie looks mighty strange too..... o.O =___= I guess I really am slipping. *shob* Eheh, I wasn't really paying much attention to details when I did this... anyway, I haven't inked it yet... Another random doodle. Don't mind the Japanese words, roughly translated, they say : (right) "Ah! This character's name is Hoshimura Ako! She's a character from JOSHI NO KOKORO [ Heart of a Schoolgirl ] Looks kinda celeb-ish, eh?" (I accidentally typed a "ha" in the last sentence, so erm, don't bother about it... ^^;;

The one on the left says : "Yo~! I'm Miyabi! How do you like this art? Is it pretty? Ah, I accidentally cropped out her legs... ^^;; If you don't mind, do comment on this artwork! Kore kara yoroshiku onegai shimasu! Miyabi deshita!" (There's no exact translation for the last bit, but you know what it means... :P )

Eheheh. Anyway, yeah.. er, after looking her up and down, I now realise she's a tad too skinny... ^^;; But oh well. There are hefty people, and there are emaciated people. XD XD

^^ I don't think she's too skinny. If so, may be just a tad. Anyways most Asians back in Asia, not those ABCs here, who drink milk and eat cheese :P are somewhat skinny. I suspect it's something in those milk, I tell ya. It's saturated with growth hormone or something ><

Anyways I love it. It's cute and well done. Also very Japanese ^^ and yea I'm somewhat a fan of Japanese culture, may be just coz I don't really know what it's like.

I do have a slight suggestion though. Wouldn't it be better to make the outward corners of her eyes sharper? It's hard to describe it, but I think I like eyes that look like this better. See below... But uhm, yeah it's your art style and my preference. So just go on doing what you like

My friend Josephine inked the girl on the right, so you'll notice that the lines are a little darker than the rest of the drawing... ) If you think the clothes look somewhat familiar, check last month's edition of FRUiTS. ^_^

Wow.. I am amazed by your drawings.
I have never seen drawings of people that look so... natural.

If I could request something, could you draw more of those pictures of heads you did... way back. The one with like 4 pictures of heads. More of those.... really really good.

Suki :) SHUT-UP

To quote it from another person:

C'mon, we don't need that kind of troll here. Save it for some other board where it's appreciated. Anime inspires creativity in people, and we appreciate folks who share it with us.

I've seen all your other posts, most of them are down right demeaning and offensive. I'm not so sure where to live but I really doubt that your kind of attitude is a sign of maturity anywhere in the world.

Yes, you can be blunt, and you can be critical, but telling another person that they're just "another artist" serves no purpose at ALL. If you've something useful to contribute do so, if not part of being an adult is learning when to shut up. Saying whatever you please just because the other person can't retaliate is very immature.

Oh and spare her the "sorry". You should know darn well that your post is offensive.
======================================== ==============

To Kenjoh :) ignore Suki. If you think he's an ignorant @$$hole, don't worry, you aren't alone. Unlike him, I'm sure you've got talent. You're drawing a lot better than I ever did at your age.

The last drawing looks good. It looks like you spent a lot of time drawing it. My only complain would be the girl on the right, her eyes aren't the same size.

I also have another suggestion for your shading. Don't be afraid, be confident. Use more texture in your work and higher contrast is always a good thing.

Keep it up Kenjoh.

Part of being an adult is taking in critiques and responding to them.
It seems that you are the immature idiot that is just stuck up to other people just trying to gain their respect.
I have respect for Kenjoh. And she knows it.
I don't need 5 or 6 people in this topic just yelling at me just for making a comment. Maybe what i said was easily deciphed as me being a ignorant fool just making random comments trying to degrade others. But i didn't intend to insult or harm kenjoh. I was speaking my mind. I was wrong saying, "Just another artist." But, I just moved to this Country, USA, 7 years ago from Vietnam. My english idioms may not be too good, or i might have put some words in the wrong place accidentally insulting others.
I'm not trying to put myself above her. I was just merely speaking my mind and what i thought.

suki, part of the reason you were taken harshly is because your comments weren't constructive, it is also viewed as a negative comment towards the person rather than the art, weither it was intended to be so or not.

tsukijin, keep your art in your own thread unless it's particularly helpful to somebody.

Ur art is very good, you are a very good artist.
But this is Kenjohs thread.
Everyone knows that Kenjoh isnt the only good artist around here and on AN, if she was then her thread would be the only one surviving on here and the only one getting any feedback, but there are other threads that are doing well besides this one, everyone knows that, everyone know that there are other good artists around here.
There is no such thing as being the best artist.
If there was, everyone would be killing everyone else by saying that so and so's art is greater than someone elses.

I have always got to reply to everyone personally, or it just doesn't feel right. ^^;;;

@ Han, well, thanks a lot! I'll draw more heads, if that's what you want. It'll help me in experimenting with new hairstyles and stuff too. It's about time I started drawing more guys. Bleargh. I suck at drawing guys!!! (T_T) They all turn out too pretty!!! *waaaaahh*

@ Suki, er, well, don't worry too much about it. If I were that offended I would probably have stopped posting up my art a long time ago... thanks for criticising me, though, it keeps me from getting any inflated egos. =P Just a note, though, before you start heavily criticising anyone, first assess yourself and your own abilities. I'm glad you like(d) the art, anyway. =)

@ Mal, it's okay. I'm not taking it to heart. Oh no, the eyes aren't the same size? Yeowch. >_< Yeah, that's what I hate about eyes. They're either not level, or one's smaller than the other. *sigh* LOL, but thanks for pointing that out!

@ AE-chan, eep. Hee hee. Thank you for being so nice about it. :P Sorry I haven't had time to visit your thread lately *bows* Gomen! Oh, but I liked your drawing of that fairy doll thing. Very cute!!! ^///^

@ Boss, ooh ouch. ^^;; Low blow. Is that a compliment? :D

@ tsukijin, well, erm, just turn that expression 90 degrees clockwise and you'll see something familiar. The expression shows up constantly in a lot of anime, especially those genki-type ones. XD "see? there it is again!" :P War? Well, if you insist~~ lol~

@ Shin, hee hee, thanks a lot. Cookies?

@ Lady, thanks so much!! Yea, in a sense I'm glad I'm one of those people who draw with relatively clean lines. What pisses me off is when the lines get smudged.... aaaaaaa.... oh, the clothes? Agggrr... maybe I should go into fashion designing after all. Oh, no, wait. I could get a degree in mechatronics, and then build robots to model clothes. :P *arg. my head is so screwed. i'm not making much sense ^^;;; *

Anyway, here are those heads I promised. Er, sorry about how this turned out, I smudged the lines a lot, and, um, the hand looks... retarded. =___= Was just trying to experiment with new hairstyles, so the faces and clothes and everything are just... I don't know, fill-ins?

Pure pen work! Couldn't clean it up because it's... well, done purely in pen (yessssss, drawing in pen is actually a lot easier than pencil drawings!), so sorry about the uh, messiness.

Fanart of Ayaka and Miori (Aya & Mio, I call them) from the JPop girl group SweetS. :D Aya's legs are seriously long. I mean, in real life. So I made them long in the picture too! Hee hee. Um, the leg that's sticking out to the front is her... uh, right leg, and the one to the back is her left. Just so you get the idea. :P And I like Miori. My favourite SweetS member.

Didn't draw the other three because I couldn't get them to look right (and gave up after a few tries because I only like Mio and Aya. =P )

I'd like to give you some critiques. I'm not going to go over small nitpicky details like the eyes for the middle chick not being on the same line, but some general advice to think about.

Just use a pencil. You need to have correct form in your drawings first, that's priority over pen. Let's take a look at the first girl to the left. She's.. smiling with her head turned 3/4ths to the left. Her arms just go straight down. Her feet are not level with the floor. If you're not going to correct any of this, just learn from it. This is a very challenging subject for myself, but you need to make your poses BELIEVABLE. For starters, take a look at the relation between a person's head and the rest of the body. Picture Miyavi sneaking through your bedroom. His torso would be arched low, but his head would not follow. No, it would oppose the torso, and lift high to be able to see. Now turn around. What's the first thing that moves? The head. If you turned around in your seat, your torso would follow the head. Of course, it's anatomically correct to turn JUST the head in any position... but just because it's anatomically correct, doesn't mean it's correct.

Now let's get back to Ayaka, the left one. She's talking to me. She's asking me "Oh Godrifle, WHY is my head turned this way? Why am I winking at you? If I was winking at you, wouldn't my body be in an excited or seductive pose? No, I'm just walking! Help me!"

When my characters start talking to me, I go crazy.

Draw center lines. If I had a globe on me, I'd tell you to draw a line straight down from North to South pole. And the equator. This should help with the eyes. Note the logo on her shirt. If you drew a center line from the top of her shirt down to the bottom, you'd notice the logo is not exactly in the middle, if the heart was to be it. If anyone says otherwise, it happens again on the lemon on the next girl's shirt. Too right. Just a little.

Flip your pages upside down. Take a look. Flip them horizontally on photoshop, or just look at them on a mirror.

Let your girls stand on a nice horizontal line. That way your feet won't be flying around like that. As for the last girl to the right, the foot on the right is broken. Try it yourself.

On skirts, I had a nice tutorial post on the frequency of cloth folds... errr I'll link it when I feel like it.

Oh, sorry, I was so busy falling off my chair that I forgot to congratualte you on your loverly pictures. I'd give you a pat on the back, but you'd probably get me for indecent asault, so I won't bother :P

Hey I noticed that your collection didn't realy include many red haired people (if it did, it was probably my lack of obsvervation skills, and I apologise), of the small ammount of coloured ones anyway. That's a hint to have a go at that by the way, in case I'm too subtle for my own good.

Also, all you're pictures are so nice and neat, do you drafts first or just blaze on in there (I'm waaaaaaaay too lazy for drafts)?

Welcome back to the forums Kenjoh :) Good to have ya back! This place gets a bit dry without some of the good ole mainstays..

If you wanna see something colored, don't br afraid to post on the "Collaborate!! Let's do it!" thread:) I've had fun coloring other's pictures, and the rare treats of seeing my own colored! And your linework seems to be pretty loved, so I'm sure we'd have a few people willing to bring colors to em.

Nice penworks there, though Ayaka's legs scare me (O.o)! hehe. I'm suprised you find penwork easier; I've rarely ever heard of anyone finding the non-eraseable easier than the eraseable! (Though there are eraseable pens now... -shrugs-) Now I'm gonna have to look through my Newtypes, I believe one has a pic of SweetS...

Thank you all so much for the comments. Really appreciate them. :D Here's a new piece I did - Astalphon from a new story I'm working on, Commen & Delusia. Astalphon is actually a cross between the names Astaroth and Sandalphon. I'm a huge Yuki Kaori freak. ^_^

She looks a little fierce here.. I'll do some retouching. Sorry about the icky screentones, somehow they became a LOT darker after I scanned the picture... =/

Please, tell me! Where do you get your screen tones? And what pens do you use, I need to find out! I have been asking almost everyone, I need to find good pens...x3.

Erm, I buy my screentones. ^^;;
I have COPIC and Pentel pens - those are high quality pens, but I still think the Pilot 0.3 pens make the best lines. You know, the ones with the long covers. Those are the best for fine lines.

very good picture, i think kind funny how her cloths are pretty much see through, can see her belly button, and where the upper thighs meet the groin.

Which stores? Or where do you buy yours screen tones? Maybe the stores might different, I don't know, but I really need some because I'm currently working on a manga me and my frined are doing for RSOM--or Rising Stars of Manga.
It's a long shot, but, it's worth trying ^_^.

Awesome pic. I love how her dress hangs from her body. I find screentones to be hard to use, that's why I use photoshop if I ever do them, and they still come out looking bad. >.<

You can buy pens and ink from any art supply store (I assume you live in the states). Screentones are hard to come by though but you can make them if you have Photoshop.

@ LA : Yeah, they're pretty hard to do manually. >.< But I'm still going at it.. hopefully I'll be able to come up with something that doesn't look too icky in a year's time or so.

@ Taramangake : Depending on where you live, you'd have to look in different stores to get screentones / pens. Most bookstores/art supplies stores stock that sort of stuff. In South East Asia, though, if you're specifically after COPIC pens, only Kinokuniya stocks them.

Yeah, it's been ages. I'm in Year 12 now, in a Canadian international school. =) Loads of work to do. Aaarghh! All that studying leaves me with NO time to draw. >.<

Heh, yeah, I can never quite get the lips to come out the way they should. As long as it doesn't look like they have an overbite or underbite, I'm... more or less satisfied. :P Thanks a lot!

Ackkk. Haha. ^^;; I don't know about being worshiped, but I do kind of remember a "Where is Kenjoh!?" thread after I went MIA... still, it's kind of nice to know that people actually take notice. :) Thanks, anyway! Now if I could just get every subsequent piece to look decent too...

Oh Kenjoh :D Still kickin butt I see :D

Yaaaaaaah, SM!!! XD Hee hee. Long time no see. Almost didn't think you'd still be around.

wow that's some really good stuff!! keep up the good work!!

Roger that. ^^ Thanks so much.

Anyway. Here's another something I did.... a year ago??? ^^;; With Open Canvas. And no, my OC skills have NOT improved since then!! LOL.

Her waist is a little too low, though. I can't believe it took me months to realize that. X( Oh well. I'm glad you like the art, Len. And hiiii, Shin!

Anyway. More old stuff. XD Got a pretty big pile of old work to go through before I get to the recent stuff.

This is what I waste my money on - designer notebooks to draw in. It might seem like a waste, but it's the only way I can keep my drawings together. If not the loose sheets of paper will end up all over the place, even in the rubbish bin. >__> Also, sorry about the messy lines... they're all purely pen work, I can never be bothered to use a pencil. Plus, pens give you smoother lines.

This one's really problematic. I intended for her to be one of those super-thin model types, but her hand looks retarded and her legs are too long. Then again, I was paying more attention to the clothes (even though I suspect those look weird as well), so whatever. Tell me if you like the clothes :D

The next two are less problematic but like everything else I've ever drawn, there's bound to be something wrong so if you manage to spot it do tell.

And yeah, my handwriting's insanely tiny. The scanner actually magnified the words! Hooooo! The actual size of my writing's as shown in the first picture. Well, maybe a WEE bit bigger.
