Hello. Was wondering if anyone had read the Onegai Teacher manga, and I would like to know if the Manga is the exact same thing as the anime, or is it a bit different. And if it is at all different, is it different for the better or worse?

The manga is a bit different than what I saw in the anime. A few of the relationships got switched around. Other than that it was pretty much right on with the anime. A little more is explained towards the end. It's a good read I thought for two volumes.

Sorry for resurecting a long dead thread, but since this one seemed to relate directly to what I had to say about this manga, I thought I would just post here rather than starting a whole new thread! :naughty:
Let me start out by saying that I am not really a huge fan of manga in itself. Most of the time, the only reason I read manga is to follow up on an anime series that I really liked. You can usually find additional background information or character development in the manga version of stories, and as everyone knows it’s very common for the stories in manga to continue far beyond the end of the associated anime.
Given that, I have to say I found the mange version of Please Teacher! to be a huge disappointment. There is no additional material to be found in the manga at all, and indeed there is a lot missing. The contents of anime episodes 5 (the “Honeymoon” story) and 13 (the “Love Hotel” story) are missing completely. The character of Mr. Yamada (and thus his scenes with Koishi) is missing, and Mizuho’s mother (Hatsuho) is reduced to a couple of very brief, cameo appearances. Beyond that, most of the remaining scenes seem to be reduced to some extent (Kei and Mizuho’s initial encounter in her space ship for example is much briefer in the manga).
There were also at least two significant changes to the storyline.
In the manga, while Kei does confront Ichigo regarding his rejection of Koishi, he never leaves Mizuho to try and date her for Ichigo’s sake, and in the manga while Kaede does have a crush on Hyosuke, it is actually Ichigo and he who end up together. Finally, while perhaps not as significant, the amusing relationship between the two little robots Marie and Miruru is missing, too. I’m not sure why any of these things were changed, and I have to say that in my opinion the anime version seems to work much better.
Overall, the manga (at only two volumes) seems overly rushed even with the material not included from the anime. If that additional material had been included and more time was spent on character and story development, this manga series could probably have easily been stretched out to four or even six volumes.
In the end, I am afraid I have to say that even if you are a manga fan, if you are interested in this story you should probably just give this manga a pass and watch the anime. :(

^ Manga based on the anime tends to be bad, especially when they shorten it to a couple of volumes or so. The only one that I know that was actually good was Kannazuki no Miko.

Yeah, it just really makes me wonder, why did they bother? They had the opportunity to expand on the characters and story in the anime, but they chose to just do a throw-way hack-job. Its just too bad.

I watched the anime but never read the manga. I can say that the anime is quite good but it is not that good. The good thing is that the art is beautiful and the anime is not boring.

You know, it's funny. I would say that Please Teacher! is probably one of my favorite anime series, but if you asked me I can't really point to any reason why. I mean, it's got good character design, and good animation, and even a good story. But nothing about it really stands out, and I can point to any number of other shows with better character design, or better animation or even better stories.
I don't know, I just... really like it.
