Lalah: People are changing, becoming like us.
Amuro: Yeah. You're right, Lalah.
Lalah: Do you really believe that, Amuro?
Amuro: I do. Because you and I were able to understand each other.
Perhaps, someday, people may even control time itself.
Lalah: Oh, Amuro... I can see time!
Amuro: I've done something I can never make right...
Okay, so that's pretty much a whole scene... so sue me! :naughty:

Bad dubbing is always fun to quote...
"Laser Swords?" -Amuro, after getting into the Gundam for the first time.
"Our Zaku laser guns have no affect on it!" - Denim
"People burning, evaporating! Burning! EVAPORATING!"- Amuro

"I'm gonna live! And I'm gonna marry Aina! And we'll grow old together!" - Shiro Amada (Gundam: 08th MS Team)
"I've said this before--the only way to live a good life is to act on your emotions." - Heero Yuy (Gundam W)
There's more, but I can't think right now. ^_^

Not really, I have seen all of Wing...*gags*...but in reality what they say can actually be really lame. Look, to some people who aren't really deep or whatever they may seem that way...but to people more in touch with certain things...they aren't

So you assume you're more more..."in touch," you say, than most Gundam fans?
Look--I don't know you and you don't know me, but we're both Gundam fans; that much is for certain. I don't know what you've been though in your life, but let me just say that I'm going through a lot of heartache right now, so I'd appreciate it if you didn't assume I didn't know what I was talking about when it comes to "certain things."

Well i guess it all depends on what one considers to be deep. Though many people may dislike Wing there is no denying that some lines have a lot of thought and a profoundness to them. I'm guessing but perhaps there may be a bit of bias on your part for your dislike of it, a dislike that is clearly understandable.
On a side note im a deep/ profound thinking person so i just kinda proved your last point wrong :)

"I've said this before--the only way to live a good life is to act on your emotions." - Heero Yuy (Gundam W)
That's an interesting Heero quote... being as he was by far the most emotionless character in the series. Don't get me wrong, I like him.
The quote/scene I remember him the most for was simply
"I understand." Then blowing himself and his gundam up (he lives of course).

Well, Heero had emotions, they were just so deeply buried under all that "perfect soldier" crap, he pretty much forgot about them. It took Relena to unlock those feelings.
If your read the "Episode Zero" manga, you'll find out where he gets it from.
To me, Trowa is the most emotionless character in the series.

Not all of these are particualy deep, I just enjoyed them.
"We're nothing but fish in a barrel"-Amuro, MSG(dub, yeah...still like it)
"He(Garma) died because he was a stupid kid"-Char, MSG
"I was just thinking how sad it(the swan) was that it would grow old and die one day. Didn't you feel anything like that?"-Lalah, MSG
If you take away the aloofness, what's left of me?"-Char, SDGundam
Everyone dies, nyaa!(my sig)-Camille
"Uh-oh, Camille's becoming papu!"-Amuro teh Swordsman, SDGundam
"Your actions will honor the dead"-Quattro, Zeta Gundam
"I don't have any potential. I am a child who's autistic!"-Camille, Zeta Gundam
"They're just a couple licking each others wounds.."(Asuka, anyone? :P);
"Isn't that sick?"-Camille, then Four, Zeta.
I can't remember most of the other quotes I like as of now, espeially for Seed/SEED Destiny. Just a few Lacus's...
What do you belive in and fight for, Athrun? The medals you're rewarded? Or your father's order!?-Lacus, G SEED
"Is war the birth of battles, or is it the human soul?"-Lacus, GSDestiny(I liked that too, Levon)
"Dullindal!!!"-Rey, GSDestiny.
This will be updated, if I remember...

Japanese Version of Gundam SEED:

Rau: "Ha, who'd believe that line? Do you think you could make the understand? Of course they wouldn't. No one will!"
I also like some of Rau's othe quotes from Episode 50.
"Humanity destroyed, at last! Just like they deserve."
"Of course, what else do we know but what we have experianced."
"Why keep saying someday? Why keep lureing yourself with that brand of sweet poison."

Strange that this hasn't been mentioned in a 1-yr old thread, i thought the G-Gundam fans would have gotten to this one already...
Domon/Shining Ultimate Move Quote: "My hand is glowing and roaring! It is telling me to defeat you!"
I know he got an upgrade halfway through the series, but "My hand is burning like an inferno!" doesn't really cut it for me. Hands that glow and roar = good *LOL*
And on a side note, there's the memorable one from 08th MS Team:
"Shiro, I am not my brother's puppet!" - Aina Sahalin
probably the only near NC-16 scene I recall from the series

"I came to laugh at you." -Quattro Bajeena, Zeta Gundam
That line is only half as cool without the context. In context it's just anOne of my favourite type of lines are the recurrent euphemistic reference to Camille and Fa fighting as their "hobby", or as you can hear them actually say "recreation". It's both funny and kinda sad on a level that only someone who's been involved in that kind of a situation can understand.
"Camille and Fa are.... doing some recreation again."
Sometimes people who care about each other a lot can still fight a lot. It's not nice, but it is true. It's a very bittersweet kind of humour, and the whole relationship between those two is very well-observed. That line I quoted isn't what the subs say, but I believe it is close to the sense of what was said.
Another favourite, although I'm not sure why, is the part that goes something like this... from episode 07 if I recall correctly.
Camille: "Why do you pilot a mobile suit, Lt. Quattro?"
Quattro: "I don't know any other way to make a living."
Yet another favourite is the part where Hayato confronts "Lt. Quattro", and again, I forget the exact words, can anyone quote that part for me?

Yeah. Hayato asks if Char has become a coward, hiding from responsibility in the guise of an ordinary Mobile Suit Pilot. Char sort of acknowledges his identity, but doesn't really confirm or deny it in words.

I love Heero's greeting speech to his new school. (I like the dubbed version better...) Okay. Here goes:
"...But why were the colonies made in the first place? I hear the main purpose was technological development to improve the lives of human kind on Earth. Did human kind start asking for too much from this imitation world? This self-sustained way of life is more stable than life on earth, especially since it lacks the risk of natural disasters. It appears that this unlimited growth was guaranteeing the eternal existance of human kind. Perhaps there was an age where people dreamed of the possibilities in the outer space where they could start from scratch. However, it's unthinkable that the colonies, or the human kind, will ever forget the Earth. What did technological development in the colonies bring to the Earth? The kind of technology the Earth wants most: millitary power. Destruction is a human nature that can never be gotten rid of, and now the colonies are developing a militaristic disposition. The colonies cannot forget the Earth.
The Earth has great beauty. The animals known as humans have aquired such strength that they even think about controlling this planet for themselves. From the point of a planet's life, the life of a living thing lasts no more than an instant. But in the end, it is only themselves that humans can think of. Nothing changes. The time spent by humans in outerspace has been a complete waste. The ideal is just a dream. This false pacifism, this false living space... Outerspace is nothing but a breeding ground for even more battles in the future.
Wars throughout history have claimed many lives. Although human kind has never been able to forget the sorrow that has been caused by wars, they have not stopped fighting. The blood and tears they shed in battle are merely ceremonial. One can't speak of history without reffering to the wars in each era as important events. I'm sure the pale peptalks of fighting for peace have been repeated numerous times in the past. The colonies say they need armamants to maintain peace. It's no different from on Earth. The colonies think they've joined the "big boys" now. I guess they believe the bloodshed would lead to higher morale... --- interrupted by the teacher
Heero's thoughts: So why do people fight anyway? Perhaps the meaning of human existance lies within their will to fight. People feel the sense of acomplishment in battle, and it is also a fact that the ones actually fighting are never perceived as being tainted.
Yeah... I don't like how the last part was translated so the original part... so here's a different version.
"Why do humans fight? Is it our reason to exist? Is there a perfection in humans who fight? And maybe we don't see how dirtied humans become from fighting wars.

Yeah, but the whole friggin point of him continually saying he'll do it and never going through with it is the point.
He's the perfect solider, the perfect killer, we see how he kills like thousands of dudes throughout the series with no problem. But his not killing her is to slowly show his gradual re-humanization. Sure, he's still cold and stuff by the end, but he's not a cold-blooded killer anymore, then in EW we see how the little girl and her dog thing traumatized him, which is why he couldn't kill Relena, the mental trauma from that incident put up mental barriers in his mind keeping him from killing innocent people, and when he does so by accident (Noventa) he has some kind of breakdown as he realizes he killed someone he shouldn't have again.
If you only use the series as evidence of his char, it is lousy. If you watch EW and read Episode Zero, his actions and mentality make a heckuva lot more sense.
Yeah, compared to the development Amuro got in UC Heero has close to no huge changes in char throughout the AC story, but that has to do with:
1) Amuro had 2 series and a Movie to develop, and 15 years of anime-time. Heero got one series, a manga and an OVA all set within 2 or so years.
2) Amuro was essentially a normalg uy before the wars,s o of course it would all affect him more, Heero was trained to kill since he was around 5, so naturally he'd be more desensitized and harder to change from his experiences, except the really nasty stuff.

I've seen all of Wing, read all the Wing-related manga that's been translated, and seen Endless Waltz (OVA and movie versions). Heero still is one of the worst characters I've ever seen and I don't recall any Wing-related item helping develop his character at all, really.

Eh, I'm a Batman fan so I guess it's easier for me to like chars like Heero...
Fascinating. I don't really see why. Batman normally has a logical motivation for what he does, unlike Heero Yuy. The character was entertaining enough, but so many times I would scream at my TV, "WHY! Why would anyone ever do that!??!?"
That could have been deliberate of course. It could have been an attempt to show that Heero was simply not a very rational chap, so I don't automatically attribute it to bad writing. There were plenty of elements in Gundam Wing that I actually liked, but Heero's character was one of my short list of things that I didn't enjoy. I also loath the voice performance in both Japanese and English. Some of the voices were excellent, and Heero was certainly not badly acted so much the actor was badly directed. He reminds me (in the Japanese) of Captain Kirk.

Hm? Once I thought it over enough his char made sense to me:
- Why was he incapable of killing Relena and why did he flip out over killing Noventa? When he killed that little girl in the EW flashback by accident the trauma of it left a imprint in his mind to the point hwere he couldn't kill another innocent person. The reason he fliiped out over Noventa and went around Europe asking his relatives to kill him was his way of compensating for that act. It's like how Batman refuses to use guns, watching his parents get killed by a gunman put a distaste for guns and killing in his mind, which is why he usually loses it whenever he does use guns or kills in those AU stories.
Also, his coldness was the result of Dr.J's training him to not care about who he killed and stuff (but it didn't fully take, as the trauma of the little girl never left him).
He also couldn't forget his experiences with his guardian Odin Lowe, which is why he still kept his "Follow your emotions and your heart" philosophy even after J "reprogrammed" him. It was those experiences with Odin and the little girl that kept him from becoming a robot. Which explains his somewhat-contradictory actions in the series, it was these prior experiences resurfacing in his "perfect soldier" mindset.
And I admit, Mark Hildreth's a good voice for Heero, but his performance did go over-the-top in terms of "coldness"; his voice when he did Angel in X-Men: EVO is much more like what I'd expect Heero to sound like.

However, I don't regard it as proven that the events of EW were planned from the start. In any case, it's a sound premise that you are putting forward. I'm not saying that Heero's actions don't make sense in terms of his character, I'm saying that his character is so confused and screwed up that he is illogical in many ways, and that this is in fact consistent with the character being portrayed. Whether I understand the events that led to his confusion or not, he is still frustrating and confusing to watch, in a way that none of the other Wing characters are, for me.
Also, his coldness was the result of Dr.J's training him to not care about who he killed and stuff (but it didn't fully take, as the trauma of the little girl never left him). All of which goes to show that to understand a a character is not necessarily to like him. There really should be a Gundam Wing thread - I'm tired of echanging vague insults with Amuro, and the rest of you. I really think it's past time there was a thread where it's the accepted thing to explain what we liked and didn't like about it. It isn't as though there were not promising and interesting elements to the anime, it's just that there were also elements that I found impossible to really like that much. I think it would be interesting to see what those who class themselves as Wing fans think of the specific characters, and plot devices which dissapointed those of us who don't like the anime. I could reel off a great big list. It's not just about "Wing sucks!", it's about specifically why it let me down so much
He also couldn't forget his experiences with his guardian Odin Lowe, which is why he still kept his "Follow your emotions and your heart" philosophy even after J "reprogrammed" him. It was those experiences with Odin and the little girl that kept him from becoming a robot. Which explains his somewhat contradictory actions in the series, it was these prior experiences resurfacing in his "perfect soldier" mindset.
Like I said, I call it an example of a confused and unstable character, rather than bad writing. That just doesn't mean I like Heero Yuy that much, despite the fact that I think the writers acheived what they set out to do.
And I admit, Mark Hildreth's a good voice for Heero, but his performance did go over-the-top in terms of "coldness"; his voice when he did Angel in X-Men: EVO is much more like what I'd expect Heero to sound like.Mark Hildreth is not to be blamed for that, since it's very much like the Japanese performance in that regrad. Cold, and stilted.

Not really, I have seen all of Wing...*gags*...but in reality what they say can actually be really lame. Look, to some people who aren't really deep or whatever they may seem that way...but to people more in touch with certain things...they aren't
How so? I love philosophy and read a lot of it. I still consider Wing a good take on it. They convey their deeper thoughts in simple ways and easy words, so maybe that's why they don't seem so deep sometimes. The concepts are pretty well discoursed on though, I'd say.
Gundam Wing isn't directly emotional, you really only appreciate it i you think into more. It's concepts of war and all the deaths portrayed in it are done so almost in a detached way sometimes. Not a lot of *major* characters die or any that you really empathize with, so you don't feel any real emotional losses when some characters die. But again, when you *really think* about it, people who've had their lives burned away for a sole purpose, people who die for loyalty... it's admirable, though maybe because it seems to be more rare now in reality.
And yes, Wing spends a lot of time on political affiliations which some people consider "*gag*" boring haha, but it's all personal preference.
Sorry about the essay and I know this quote was... way back when, but I haven't been active in this forum for a while. And now... I expect a thousand people to come pick me apart for my opinions haha.

Whether I understand the events that led to his confusion or not, he is still frustrating and confusing to watch, in a way that none of the other Wing characters are, for me.
I see your point. My argument would be that humans aren't always rational and logical, as I'm sure you'd know. Humanity, even when repressed by some traumatic beginning sometimes still manages to puncture through if something brings some reminder of it (i.e. girl with dog, some people say that Relena reminds Heero of the girl which is why he's reluctant to kill her.) And as the series progresses, Heero loosens up a bit, which is understandable since I don't believe he's had a ton of human contact until AFTER Operation Meteor where he's forced to interact. Plus, how could you not loosen up after meeting Duo hahaha.
All of which goes to show that to understand a a character is not necessarily to like him.
