You know, it's really strange, but he really likes putting characters (Rei and Asuka mostly) into these really bizarre poses, and they're making these arm/hand gestures that make absolutely no sense. In fact I'm not sure myself, but I think it was way back when I was still a clueless n00bie. Your Eva fan-art used to freak me out, but I've grown as a person since then. One can get used to virtually anything and even learn to like it, I guess.

Naw, don't WATCH them -- just run them in the background when you're doing something else and see how long it takes before you scream in agony. The boys may have a few valid leads in their gibberish, but for the most part I was wondering, "How the <expletive deleted> do they come up with this <expletive deleted>?" Analyzing NGE according to some strange psychosexual principle, in which the "religious" elements are taken so seriously that the orifices on Sachiel's palms from which the hikari no yari emerge are called "stigmata" and are read heavily into. Well, you study literature and you know all about the bizarre (IMO ;) ) forms of analysis prevalent in that field -- I'd actually be quite interested in hearing your take on the Greenfield-McCoy approach. Though if you ever do get around to that, I'd dig up the old thread Monkey made specifically for bashing "Mythology".

With regard to Shin-Seiki, I'd have to say that in "Greenfield's" case, the character that I thought was speaking has such a poor track record that I felt entitled to a little yelling. In the case of Shin-Seiki, if he believes that it's a phallic symbol, that is one (IMO) mis-step among many quality theories.

When I frivolously tried to divert a Rah vs Eva thread (that seems to have vanished), I posed the eternal question Rei or Asuka? Goldarmy was kind enough (http://www.animenation.net/forums/showpost.php?p=4824052&postcount=54) to unearth a Rei/Hikari fic to balance the slightly more frequent Asuka/Hikari pairing. More recently I'd wondered whether anyone had ever done a Kaworu/Hikari.

But the answer was obvious (http://www.ravnaandtines.com/eva/MayaHikari.jpg) all along.

Rei/anyone often seems kind of icky to me... I could stand it as long as it was in a romantic context, and Rei was an active participant. All too often in doujin and fanfic she seems to be just a passive recipient, only one step removed from a blow-up doll.

Asuka/Hikari always seemed to me to be a pairing of a quite plausible nature, based on the fact that they are good friends, and that one line about Hikari not saying anything, no matter what Asuka did... to her, my mind invariably adds to that sentance.

Maya/Hikari seems like another one of those "never gonna happen" pairings, since I don't even recall that the girls so much as met in the anime, but why let reality get in the way of such a cute couple? They do look astoundingly cute together, don't they?

Especially considering the fact that Evas do, in fact, have an "out-hole". Nephilim makes them look like they're from Remulak; we just need the two little knobs on the buttocks, and there you go.

Nephilim, I think, adheres too rigidly to ideas in Yamashita's sketches that didn't make it into the show -- there is no sign in NGE of the Evas having the 'body paint' (save for on the head), and the tabi feet were effectively ruled out with EoE. (Granted, Sadamoto uses Yamashita's drawing as the basis for his own ugly naked Yui-sama, but we already know the man's judgment is sometimes flawed.) For me, anyway, drawing naked Evas is about reconciling the inconsistencies in the show in a manner that produces something of optimal functionality (for example, resolving one certain farce and just giving them a damn mouthline) and aesthetics.

And, I dunno, something about Nephilim's naked Evas just seems kinda rigid and graceless... Well, I guess that's why I draw my own -- because no one else's can satisfy me and the vision of the 'ideal Eva' I carry around in my tormented cranium.

Bingo! I couldn't put my finger on it the first time around but that's exactly why it didn't look good. The blue is too vibrant and it clashes with the tan.

There hasn't been a single image on the top page of gaijin artistship. I sorta suspect that the people who do them have some sort of tie to Gainax or the anime/manga industry (if they aren't actual Gainax employees themselves). You know -- an exclusive club.

BTW, folks, I got my filthy paws on Girlfriend of Steel 2 and I've been (somewhat obsessively) playing it over the past couple of days, in an attempt to make another complete image collection. I think the only thing I haven't done in the game is manage to get the game over sequence featuring (inexplicably) a Robocop lookalike; I seriously have no idea how to get it. (It'll probably end up being something really stupid and obvious.) Oh well... I did make a guide for myself to ease the process of getting all the scenarios, so probably, with a little extra work, that can become the first GOS2 English walkthrough EVAR. Just what the world needs, right? I think I'd enjoy having at least one game FAQ to my name.

I'll finish processing all the images (except Robocop, but I suppose we can make do with the JPEGs I already have of that) soon, but I don't have any place to host them at the moment (since Monkey is being mean ;), and I'm being lazy about getting my own domain). If you have lots of bandwidth and don't want to wait, I will accept your sacrifice now.

A little googling produced this tutorial (http://www.alistapart.com/articles/hotlinking/) as a potential solution to his problem. The tutorial describes how you can prevent hotlinking(i.e. other sites embedding your images in their webpages) yet still allow regular linking(i.e. provide links to your website. Scroll down to the "See it in Action section" to see the techniques at work.

It also describes how you can allow trusted sites, and even how you can redirect offsite image "cold"linkers to a special webpage, informing them what site the image they are viewing is on.

It's the optimal solution really. All depends on how 311t your h4k0r skillz are, but it all seems pretty straightforward. Why this isn't implemented by default I'll never know.

That site - A List Apart - is a damn fine place to start for any sort of web design and implementation issue... I give it several stars.

EM's current blocking is the not the best implemented I've seen - the first I spotted it was the big red screaming image appearing in one of the EM forum threads (he hasn't whitelisted all his own domain), and following the direct link gives

Redirect Loop Error
Redirection limit for this URL exceeded.
The browser has stopped a connection because the site is redirecting requests to itself in a manner which prevents it from ever completing.

Why this isn't implemented by default I'll never know.

PHP isn't (yet) a default option for server installs. My own site I've locked down anything script-like so couldn't use that instead of mod_rewrite; but again, as that's on a box in my spare bedroom, with bandwidth limited by ADSL on a flat rate, when Portuguese Iron Maiden fans want to leech a photo of Jim Morrison's grave, it doesn't really worry me.
