I find the image both funny and disturbing. Kind of reminds me of my own attempts to get under fanboys' skin, except it just makes their hot chickas members of the Gloop family instead of replacing them with Evas. It's also great for my self esteem -- "well, I may have some fat on me, but at least I don't look like THAT!"

They aren't aimed at capturing the same market as 'real' games, but they do sell well, for relatively low prices, and they fullfil a need for light entertainment. The book I sent you basically collects images from the computer game of the same name. I thought the game was just a strip-mahjong sort of deal, but that doesn't explain the images where we see NGE/Nadia/Gunbuster characters interacting and the NGE sequence with the paper plane.

I think that there was an "Eva Plus a Bunch of Other Gainax Characters" game released for Saturn and PS1 (and possibly other consoles I don't know about), but as far as I know that one wasn't hentai in nature (the Saturn version bears a green label, basically its equivalent of an "E" rating, anyways)...then again, I have also heard of a hentai-type game like that ("Shinji and Good Friends," was it called?)...not sure how, if at all, the two are related.

To my knowledge, all of these are from two places:
1) Some artbook thingy, you can see two versions of the cover above
2) Fan made...

...So, in short, no, to my knowledge they aren't from a game. Of course, I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

There was (is, if you can still find it) a computer program that had premodeled Evas and Angels (and stuff) that you could pose to your liking. I forget what it was called, incidentally. I never looked into it because the models are all a bit on the crude side. I'm guessing that's where most of those harpy pics came from.

EDIT: Nevermind, here (http://www.render-blade.com/3DWS_SALE/) it is. There seem to be three editions of the software.

Probably because it is fun - there are only so many outlets for warped creativity. There are enough Rei and entry-plug images out there - but this one actually took that concept and ran with it.

Although she had her reasons of doing so, regret has haunted her so strongly ever since that she's gone mad because of it. Now that she sees her children again, she doesn't recognize them any longer; she's shut the memory of the abandonment out of her consciousness and fallen into a crazy delusion that everything's perfectly okay. And here's the catch - she's holding a doll which she believes to be her (older) child, and treats her real children like complete strangers!

Athough this plot twist is missing the suicide-factor (their mommy is more a stable kind of loonie), the lines of dialogue spoken during this dramatic encounter immediately reminded me of Evangelion:

"What on earth are you doing, mother? Why are you talking to that doll? WE are your children!"
"Why are you raising your voice like that? You're going to wake up my child."
etc. etc.

Not word to word, but you get the point. I'm not saying this is definately an Evangelion in-joke, but the possibility exists. Also, Rodyle's four-eyed winged dragon gave me certain Nigouki-vibes, but that was most likely just me seeing things (wouldn't be the first time).

But whatever, the greatest thing in this game is that you get a chance to beat up those annoyingly upbeat main characters from Tales of Eternia.

Whoops. I guess I took the term "metal" idol a little too literally, I thought you were talking about a robot. As for the fact that you called him a bishie, I guess I figured that you could just as easily be refering to a bishoujou as a bishounen.

EDIT: Japanese language question: "Bi-shou-jou", if I understand correctly breaks down as beautiful-young-girl, in that order. Presumably the japanese for girlfriend, "Kanojo" uses that last sylable "girl" in the same way, does it? The only reason I ask is because it sounds logical, but "Kareshi", the term for boyfriend doesn't seem to have any connection with "Shounen" or "Bishounen".

Come to think of it, I'm not even sure that those words mean boyfriend and girlfriend. Look at "Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou" - That's translated into English just as "His and Her Circumstances". Maybe that translation is just because "Circumstances of a Boyfriend and Girlfriend" sounds too clunky. :-P

It would be inaccurate, besides. Inaccurate at first, becase the characters who are the "Kare" and "Kano" of the title don't even get until the volumes of the manga. They just do the traditional mating dance of the human teenager.

Perhaps Kareshi & Kanojo are just masculine and feminine pronouns, but that they imply romantic connections, rather than explicitly mean that? Could this be the case?

But that wouldn't be near as funny as "Toasted Rei Crisp", a reference to Rei II's demise. Giving Shinji the marshmallow cereal was supposed to be a lame joke about his spine. "Chocolote Frosted Asuka Bombs" was a Calvin and Hobbes tribute, (Calvin's favorite cereal was "Chocolote Frosted Sugar Bombs"). The other two I just threw in so as to have one for each pilot.

Not all in Japanese... Some of the "A" series (A-1 thru A-4) series -- where Asuka is forced to become a sex slave in a bid to save Shinji's life, or some idiotic thing of the sort -- is translated, as was that full-color Ayanami one, where Rei goes on in monologue about how all of the boys at school do (or make her do) <insert random sexual act>, and how she has to become a prostitute for whatever reason. They really are completely idiotic.

The funny thing about H-doujinshi is that almost none of it really has ANYthing to do with the character(s) being objectified. Most of them, you could insert a few dozen other 'Hot Anime Chicks' in their place and have to change absolutely nothing. Or, if more than one recognizable character is involved, simply replace everyone with characters with similar roles (i.e, main male protagonist, primary love interest, secondary love interest, etc.) from another anime, and, voila, another H-doujinshi is born. The sheer stupidity of them is alarming.

However, as I often remark, some of them actually manage to redeem themselves. Alarmingly few, but for whatever reason I am amused enough that I brave the H-doujin wastelands again and again. Until I have a source of income again and I can actually get doujinshi that aren't pr0n-oriented from Japan. (Sadly, non-pr0n doujin doesn't enjoy much distribution in fan circles, from what I can gather.)

Speaking of hentai... At an NGE image board Joeshie linked to earlier -- which is, regrettably, focused on NGE's two primary cash cows (moo!) -- I posted my Asu-Ka the Ever-Living image, just for a change of pace from pictures of Asuka being tied up and violated. Guess what? It was baleeted! I fail to see how it was more lacking in taste than 75% of the images there. Rant, rant, rant.

Most of my favourite American comics are in B&W as well. It's a good stylistic choice, a lot of the time.

I always assumed that Misato was just a sloppy shopper. I'm not sure what Kaji would be doing leaving old clothes with Misato (especially stuff that looks like that), much less why she would have to resort to handing them down to the kids. I don't think she was poor by any measure.

Maybe a murky part of Misato's mind wants to see the kids walking around in loose-fitting clothing just to make things more... entertaining. Maybe that's what the artists wanted...
