It seems so. Although I don't know which version of death was released outside of Japan (there three of em), oddly this is the first time I've heard of Revivial. Revivial = Death (Death(true)2 = Death - NPC + One special frame for retcon) and EoE. If you've seen the NPC/DC episodes (before you ask they're on platinum) then you'll miss nothing.

Actually, it's the other way around. Scarface was made back in 1983. Vice City was inspired by Scarface and Miami Vice. There's lots of signs throughout the game that pay homage to Scarface. The video monitors in the mansion show rooms from Tony Montana's Mansion. There's also an apartment room you can enter in the city. In the Bathroom is a chainsaw and blood all over the bathtub. There was a scene in Scarface where a guy gets his leg cut off with a chainsaw in an apartment bathroom.

Whoops, yeah, that's what I meant. Tommy's a knock off of Tony, the storylines are similar, the mansion is lifted right out of Scarface, even the film's music makes it into not Vice City but it's predecessor GTA3.

Hayate no Gotoku makes regular references to other anime, it's awesome. Even makes reference to some that are still airing (great examples being Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann DVDs for rent in the video store and in the twelfth episode, Getsumen To Heiki Mina being ALMOST but not quite mentioned by name). There was also a slew of Gunbuster references in the last episode, and if I didn't know any better, I'd say Gainax practically paid for all the references. :P

Have you seen the anime Gasaraki? The nada/gasara/absolute nothingness in Gasaraki is sort of similar to the anti-ATF in NGE in that it destroys the ego (not meaning what freud meant by ego there... more like alan watts) releasing folk from their desires.

What do you think the mechanics are behind the S^2 going overboard and the AATF?
I suspect it has something to do with the sea of dirac.

Does anyone remember the Misato look-alike from Idolm@ster Xenoglossia that was shown many pages back? It seems that looks aren't her only similarity, there are also a few more, though they're only superficial:

-A traumatic experience in childhood involving an experiment from a secret organization.

-She has some kind of relationship with a double agent who has a personality superficially similar to Kaji's, including the frequent smile and the badly cut beard (though he looks nothing like Kaji, besides the beard).

-Her Idol (robot with some kind of soul) has a black human-like face with two eyes, a mouth plate and a horn. It doesn't really resemble Unit-01 besides those details, and even those are different, but it's still rather distinct considering how every other Idol shown until episode 11 doesn't have a human-shaped head.

However, both she and the other guy are antagonists and apparently evil, so the similarities stop there. As already mentioned too, she's a pilot (though it seems she uses some kind of artificial means to pilot currently and shouldn't be able to do it naturally).

The glue is clear "tacky glue", the same that I used on my Venom piece. It happened to be both wet & reflecting off the flash. That's all.

Yeah, her name's Ran. As for how many people saw it, I've no idea; I have only once ever seen a discussion on this board, and have never found mention of it anywhere else except for ANN.

It got good reviews, but I guess it's an underground series. I myself am still in the middle, because I bought the first three DVDs and am waiting to get more money before I proceed to buy the other three and finish my set. On a side note, a little known neat fact is that Sadamoto did the character designs for TEXHNOLYZE. Comparing stuff like Eva and .hack//, it's obvious, but TEXHNOLYZE is nothing like his other works. I recommend it.

KatayokuのTenshi, you have touched on a very important observation. Mochi is soft and malleable and you can choke on it. In EoE, Shinji chokes the blue hell out of Asuka, who, despite showing her immense destrudo when knocking over the coffee pot, just stands there like a doll (Wait, like a doll - sh!t, must be a connection to Rei, who Asuka accused of having doll-like qualities - how ironic, OMG, OMG, have to write this down). The most likely explanation (beyond all reasonable doubt) is that Asuka was physically and mentally incapacitated on a conscious level; yet, we all know that under any psychoanalytical schema, the unconscious keeps on operating like the 4 rivers in the Garden of Eden (wait a minute, 4 rivers ... there are also 4 sons of Horus, 4 evangelists and 4 children in Eva - OMFG, OMFG), gushing forth like LCL on a bright, spring morning.

Asuka was spiritually crushed by Shinji strangling her like a diseased dog, and having seen an idealized version of Kaji, who was Kaji overlayed with a Jesus archeytpe, in her own version of Instrumentality, she forgave Shinji momentarily (this is obvious because Jesus advocated that for people who slap you on one cheek, you should let them slap you on the other cheek - so it stands to reason that if someone tries to strangle you, you should caress them and not fight back). But then the unconscious forces fountain up like some bad dream, and Asuka wants:revenge. She wants to choke the hormones out of Shinji, and this is clearly represented by Asuka pounding mochi; she is creating mochi who she desires to feed to Shinji in the hope of him choking on it. The action is a symbol for wanting to choke someone. This symbol is part of nothing other than the motif of the cycle of hurt and counter-hurt, which can only be broken by compassion (cf. compassion in Buddhist philosophy, compassion in the work of conservationists, compassion in the humanist tradition, compassion as per Schopenhauer's conception - this is why Evangelion is so deep, because it shares common themes with the surrounding literature, and everything in the surrounding lit. you can link to Evangelion just by muttering the magic common themes and trying to fob people off by bringing NGE on a par with these works simply by using the same specialised terminology).

Notice also that the pounding action is rhythmic. What else is rhythmic and which serves as anathema to Asuka's fragile mind, the same fragile mind which has seen her catapulted into the fantasies of many fans? Two words: Shinji masturbating. This has also creeped into her psyche and she is symbolically pounding away at mochi (will to choke) as a means to nullify Shinji's rhythmic will to ejaculate. This is because everything tends towards equilibrium: e.g. diffusion and the Second Law of Thermodynamics. So it's natural and the most likely explanation that Asuka wanted to counteract the mental impression of Shinji's rhythmic beat with one of her own which is aimed at punishing Shinji, who is perceived as a daemonic/numinous entity in her mind (note the oppressed wife/dominating husband motif - great practical relevance in divorce courts worldwide: this is why Evangelion has so much practical relevance as well, and totally justifies why people analyse the details at an atomic level).

I congratulate the person who conceived this "Asuka pounding mochi" piece of artwork. If you don't look deep enough into these pieces of art, you'll never find the hidden meaning that will justify your existence.

Firstly Tom, what a beautiful picture. I can really feel the surrealism trying to escape from this picture, yet it is so grounded in metaphorical realism. We have:

Misato + Penguin = ?

To motivate proceedings, we first consider a penguin on its own. This unique bird cannot fly and on land, its dumpy frame gives it an awkward motion. It appears clumsy, superficial, out of its depth and a freak disobeying the law of the jungle. Yet when it plunges the depths of the water, it is in its element. Serenely gliding through the blue world, it out-manoeuvres fish with consummate ease.

Consider the case of Misato Katsuragi. On the outside, as Anno points out, she is a superficial, hedonistic airhead; a contrived socialite with no cause and an outwardly vapid persona. Er, yeah, so first concentrate on the similarities: firstly, both the penguin and Misato are clumsy and superficial on "land", i.e. in the open air, on the outside (= conscious mind). The water is a symbol of the unconscious by virtue of the mysteries it contains in its depths and the notion of a dynamic entity. Many myths take water as symbolizing the primordial waters out of which the universe is created (e.g. see Babylonian mythology), which suggests water's predominanly non-conscious numinuous quality. However, we see that the penguin is supreme in water, while Misato runs away from her unconscious (symbolized by water) like a little girl - i.e. she is frightened of "water".

Oh. my. god. We have the answer. This picture is the WISH of Miss Katsuragi!! She WISHES to be a penguin, that is, to be in tune with the watery environment (her unconscious), the wish which was unfulfilled in the anime. Misato longs to be able to plunge the watery depths to find the key which unlocks her heart, and then to be able to rise up out of her own free will to validate her existence forever. She WISHES to be a penguin.

I have never played the title, so I have no idea whether or not that video is connected to it or not - you may well be right about it being fan-made. In any event, though, at least you know the game exists.

Speaking of Eva pachinko games, I remember a PS2 Eva pachinko game topping the charts in Japan (http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=6009&Itemid=2&limit=1&limitstart=2).
