I think my introduction to the whole thing was the tv-series Gravitation. You know at first being a heterosexual and all, if you like something like that you come up with excuses/reasons for yourself liking such things such as well for me, I claimed to myself I was into it 'cos as an "aspiring musician" I could somewhat related to Shuichi and his quest to make his band big or whatever..

and actually that is somewhat true, but eventually I had to admit to myself that what drew me in which the chemistry between Shuichi and Yuki. Seriously, for whatever it's worth Gravitation has done a lot for me in terms of being more accepting towards the ideas of gay relationships than any pride parade or whatever. Some might disagree, but I say Gravitation is pretty darn human in it's portrayal of gay relationships, I understand the whole need for gay acceptance (everyone wants to be accepted, after all) and activism and that whole thing, but sometimes the best way towards acceptance isn't deep and thought provoking documentaries and essays or whatever, but just showing that you're human like everyone else.. prone to make mistakes, but also capable of great good to a lot of people.

And I find that I can relate to some of the characters.. for example I am romance novelist who murdered my teacher when I was much younger blahblahblah.

And finally getting off the subject of Gravitation (well a little bit at least) I don't know if any other het guys will back me on this or not, but in my opinion compared to a lot of guys in the real world some guys in anime are rather cute or even (*gasp*) pretty damn hot. As far as the constantly mentioned Gravitation goes, Ryuichi is rather charming. Hell, sometimes they can even surpass some of the females (Kaworu Nagisa from Neon Genesis Evangelion (with the Japanese voice, of course) in my opinion is much more attractive than any coke snorting skank-*** in this neighborhood I live in)

That's why I prefer Shounen-ai, even if it can be a little cliched, I guess I'm more of a 'love-love' kinda guy. Either thing you site could be an option; seeing as how I don't know you, I can't really say one way or the other. However, I do have a few male friends who are straight, but they like the story in yaoi, so that's their reason. At the same time, I got a bit more into it because I was bi-curious at that time. The best way to think about it would not be do you like yaoi for this question... rather, could you see yourself in bed with another guy? If no, then I'd say it's more appreciation for the underlying story than anything else... if yes, then you might be bi-curious. But I can't say for sure...
