Dark Adonis....do you post at aarinfantasy, by any chance?

Yes, I do! ^_^ And I remember you too. You are the one who I said posts the long, well-thought out responses to my threads. I just joined up on this forum tonight. I just can't believe all of these threads on this site that haven't been added to for like a year. Good thing I'm here to get the conversations flowing again. :D

I love yaoi. I went to the yaoi panel at Otakon this year and actually asked the trap for his phone number (that was fun, heh, heh, heh). Feel free to message me and I'd be more than happy to talk about it.

Yep! I'm a gay man who is interested in yaoi. Actually, yaoi played a huge part in helping me accept my sexuality. I'm happy to see how many men posted in this thread. It makes me feel like I'm not so alone. Also, I saw some male yaoi fans when I went to the anime convention neerest where I live. I knew they were yaoi fans because of the t-shirts they were wearing.

Nice name, good to see more disgaea fans on the site. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but allot of the posters in this topic have less then 10 post's (and for most of them this is the only topic they posted in) which became inactive after some female posters stoped posting here "cough" sock-puppets "cough" (which is why this thread has been inactive for a LONG time). there is at least one other guy on this site i know though who likes both yaoi and yuri (eh.... not me just to avoid confusion -_-;) named milky mixer on this site, he seems like a nice guy and theres no dought in my mind he really is a guy. ( i can tell quite easily when peaple are bs'ing online)

Actually, I have hardly even played Disgaea. It seems interesting from what I have played, but I haven't gotten very far. And I was calling myself the Dark Adonis before that damn fop Viers stole my title. I will NEVER forgive him for that! NEVER!

By the way, thanks for the welcome. Hopefully, this thread will eventually become active again.

Someone cosplayed as bridget?

No. Yuki was dressed up in gothic lolita attire. He was on the far left of the table. If you stayed through till they made the line for questions, I was the Kyo Sohma cosplayer who asked for his phone number as well as proof that Space Butler / Nabeshin pr0n existed. I did see a Bridget at the con but it was a girl. I hate that crap.

anyways...Good job on that cosplay. But remember...for every good one, there are 10 bad ones, at least.

Topic: There are plenty of non-gay guys who like yaoi. We're all bisexual, fortunate for you gals.

The funny thing about the internet is that guys like to pretend they are girls and girls like to pretend they are guys (or 14 year-olds like to pretend they are allot older, thats pretty common to), just becouse someone says they are something doesn't mean they are.

Is it so hard to believe there are guys who like yaoi? Gay guys? Although yaoi is made for a female audience there have to be some guys who like it.

I mean, even some of my straight guy friends read it, though that might be a german thing seeing as the manga market here is heavily female-dominated.

Im sure there are but i dought every user on that site was honest to you, Many peaple in WOW tell me they are girls, now though some of them may have been girls you and i both know 90 percent of them are really guys (and the 90 to 10 percent ratio probably applies to those peaple's claims as well). peaple lie all the time online for all you know someone who says they are a white guy like me could really be an african american woman. Modding for an old gundam forum by checking post history and checking IP's (I used to sniff out Alt Account's) taught me just how dishonest peaple are online. Take whatever you hear with a grain of salt and judge for yourself.

I know a number of straight guys that read yaoi.

Really? I'm not 'into' yaoi, so I don't know much about it or it's fans, but I do find it hard to believe that straight guys would read yaoi or shoenen-ai (unless it was something that had a half-interesting story, like Loveless or Gravitation) but straight guys that read yaoi that's centred entirely on man sex? Nah, I just can't believe it - most guys are far too sensitive about their sexuality to do something like that, no?

Yukito Kunisaki
December 27th, 2007, 09:28 AM
Gravitation was pretty generic for a love story, so I really wouldn't put that into that category. Turn Shuichi into a girl, and it is something done every year, just with different character professions.

Yknow, this thread has been here for 4 years... and I went back to the very first page, went through the whole thing, and realized I never posted in it. LOL!

Gay man here, likes some yaoi... more into the BL stuff like Eerie Queerie and Yami no Matsuei and Earthian and Loveless where there's some other thing going on in the story besides just the BL elements... I find a lot of the one-shot stuff that DMP puts out to be really trite and most of it just looks like it's the same thing. So I don't buy much yaoi.

As a side note, I kinda cracked up at how many posts in this thread showed the poster had only made 1 or 2 posts on AN altogether. Where did these people go? They just showed up, posted in this thread that they liked yaoi, and then disappeared? Found that funny. I also wonder how many of the "I'm bi" posters from years ago decided they were gay afterall and not bi. Also, a lot of familiar posters that I haven't seen on the boards in awhile. Admittedly, I go through periods where I don't post for awhile, then get post-happy and start spreading my postyness all over AN.

One other thing that stuck out to me somewhere along this thread, which was commented on a few years back (LOL) I think by Dazzlekitty is the way yaoi guys are always these slick beautiful hairless men. Me, I like a guy with hair on his chest. Are there any hairy guys in yaoi/BL manga (and I don't mean the gross fat hairy sadist type of guys who rape the poor little ukes... I mean a cute, hot, normal yaoi guy with some hair on his bod...)?

March 6th, 2009, 08:14 PM
Well... Let's start at the beginning. What a nonsense statement, but i need to get in the mood to write, it's about 6 AM after all and I'm quite drunk :p

The first "yaoi" i've ever watched was Junjou Romantica, meanwhile i've watched Yami No Matsuei and Okane Ga Nai.
I have to admit that i was rather hesitant in the first place, thinking about "oh can i really watch this without considering myself gay?!"
But now I'm feeling safe enough to say that I'm straight hetero and nevertheless enjoying (some) yaoi.
There are still some restrictions left, i've tried to watch enzai - falsely accused which was really way too graphic and violent, I just couldn't stand it, thus leading to my personal conclusion:

I don't watch yaoi because i am turned on by BL.
I like the way romantic relationships are being displayed in the yaoi i've watched so far. I just find the emotional bonds more deep and desirable than those i've seen in straight romance animes, even if i wish for myself to eventually get to this state with a woman.
(Please leave all this "forced" stuff which is partially included aside)

Does anyone expect or ask for a psychological more funded explanation for this?

Well, perhaps I can post something more productive then, but this could take me some time, exploring my inner self etc. :)

Brokeback Mountain was alright, but I wouldn't call it excellent by any stretch.

People said it was a very progressive movie about gay rights, but gay rights had nothing to do with it. In fact, the movie was pretty insulting to homosexuals because as soon as Jake Gyllenhall had sex with Heath Ledger, they were "In Love". Geez, what kind of message does that send about homosexuality? "Have sex with a complete stranger of the same sex and you two will be soul mates, because homosexuals introduce themselves to each other by having sex with one another."

Of course, this post has nothing to do with the thread, but I had to get that off my chest.

You know sexuality is always such a tricky thing...
I believe that people should be happy as who they are and what they do!
It took me several years to figure out how horrible I have become...being more like what society wanted to shape me into...
My point is that Sexuality should have no boundaries...whether you love someone of the same sex or different, it should be the same love
Yaoi shows us how important it is to treasure love at any age and with anyone you choose..
Don`t get me wrong I started watching yaoi because I was curious, and later found out that it is much like the romance mangas I read with `straight love`... Basically Yaoi somehow educated me..:)
I also noticed that the Japanese culture is in fact more accepting of homosexuality...

*remember being in love is not about the process (intercourse), it is about showing your love for `another human being`

I decided to not categorize myself in sexuality.....I am just simply me
p.s. thnx for listening to my rant!!!

Totally AGREED!!! I was actually surprised how some people are being more accepting of the gay community. A guy in my english class last year actually did a how project and essay about homosexuality and masculinity. I was not 100% about his sexuality, but the class of 50 students seemed to accept the strifes of the gay community (well the majority of the class did).
But to your point.... It is true how being gay is only portrayed as being sexually active with the same sex...and falling in love because of that...
We as the future generation must understand that the media is putting out sterotypes and lies about many things, such as homoxseuality...
I am glad you pointed that out about Brokeback Mountain!
p.s. I have never watched the movie Brokeback Mountain because of how the portrayal of a difficult life one will have being homosexual!!! such a disappointment:( ...so read or watch your YAOIS because most are very well thought out!!

Finally someone agrees with my personal philosophy.

I'm bisexual and I've only read yaoi a little bit. I did because even though I'm very androgynous/feminine, I am attracted to the same thing, and yaoi has some of that. But really I can't get into it for some reason.

I love yaoi. I don't know what I'd do with myself otherwise. haha. But, I'm gay, and love anime, so it's kind of expected for me to like yaoi, right?!

This one wishes to announce their attachment to Anime and Manga, but especially close to the heart is Yaoi. Also, this one is male.

Why are you talking like you just came back from a Gorean BDSM festival?

It sounds like a translator software mistake, Could be that the person doesn't use English as a first language.

On topic, I am a guy and I do like yaoi, Shonen ai preferred but its a sub genre for yaoi, At least right now it is. Meanings and genres change so much so I'm probably wrong. :P

Well, I gotta admit. I recently started reading a yaoi manga called Vassalord and I think it's good. The makeout scenes don't gross me out (I kiss guys on the cheeks so no biggie).

Yaoi hentai is not really for me though.

I am male and I like Yaoi, but I am not straight. So I would assume that has something to do with it XD

I really love how Yaoi show's so much emotion.

How could I have possibly missed this huge gem of a thread?

Yes, my posting here entails exactly what you'd expect. It kind of comes as no surprise that I'm into yaoi when I've known far too many fangirls as a result of my cosplaying hobby.

I'm not really all that surprised at the amount of males that like yaoi here and all around the world. I mean, for most yaoi fansites, the moderator/administrator are mostly male.

I guess you could say I'm into yaoi in that I don't mind watching a series that as some of even centers around it (when it comes to romantic stories I really don't care about trivial details like that (sexes of the couple, huge age gap between the two, familial bonds...) as long as the romance is well portrayed). Though I haven't watch hentai yaoi yet.
