Race: Elvaan
Level: 18 Monk, 10 Thief
Nation: Windurst (it wasn't my idea ¬_¬)
Server: Odin
Leveling thf/mnk right now, until thief gets 15, then switching to mnk/thf and hardcoring it to 30 and seeing what I can do about the Samurai and Dragoon quests. Level Samurai/Monk to 35, switch to Dragoon/Samurai, and level Dragoon to 70~ And of course, by the time I do this, the December level cap raise will have taken effect, so I'll get Samurai to whatever level it will max out at, then switch to Dragoon.
All I can say is, with Samurai/Monk, a fully stacked Boost with a 2h swing would be pretty intense, haha. Though if I felt like wasting the time of leveling warrior, I'd rather sub that. But too much extra wasted time.

Cant you just delete and recreate your character until you're on the same server as an ally?

Not that I can see. Just get a world pass, like I did. I can ivite 5 people onto my server. Since 2 people here are in odin, I might just recreate in odin, and send my friend to odin. That'll make 4 of us.

Yes you can, all major news sources say that it is possible to recreate until you are on the server of choice, but it can be very annoying doing so over and over until it finally works.

Of course, you could do that, or you could just ask a friend for a world pass. They arnt too expensive, I got mine for free.

Passes on Odin at US launch were 1250. I could find better things to spend 1250 on. And yes, it's possible to reroll until you get on a certain server. Everyone of my friends has done it. =p
Fukki, don't sub Summoner. Subbing pet classes is a bad idea. White Mage may be a good sub for a Summoner, but black mage would give you more MP overall, and summons drain MP as they are out, so more MP = longer summons. :D
Yes, come to Odin. Love me, for I am level 25 now. I have 15 thief too, but lately I've been using level 5 warrior sub, because I notice some warriors in the game leave much to be desired in the sense of knowing how to provoke. I'd level warrior to 15, but I'm so close to 30 now, screw it. As soon as I get 30 I'm rounding up a japanese posse to help me with Samurai quest.

Any of you people considering monk / sub monk, learn the ways of boost! I managed to stack it ~nine times before a pull. Max you could stack it would be 11. My attack rating went from 98 to 208, and I hit something I normally hit for mid teens for 28+35. Dominated~

A few days me, Tama_Chan, and 10 other ppl went through the Palbrough Mines and we just finish killing some real tough Qudauvs. Suddenly a Quduav train (12 or so) killed all of us.

November 12th, 2003, 10:29 PM
Heh. When I was in Valkurm, someone trained about 15 Hill Lizards. I don't know where the hell they found that many, but I'm not kidding when I say there were at least 15. That was the first time I saw FFXI slow down. Of course, it didn't help I hadn't rebooted in a week and I had winamp3 in the background.

Ok, my comp now could handle it.... barely, but in about a month to a month in a half I'll be getting a new customizedo ne, though time at first will be tight, I would be able to play lots eventually...
I'm just curious if it's worth getting... I'm kinda torn...
P.S. how much is it to mantain a char. per month?
Siendra
November 15th, 2003, 04:03 PM
Its around $12 American per month. I want to get it too, but I atleast need a new Graphics card first.

Siendra
November 15th, 2003, 05:46 PM
No. Were it a disscusion about the game, then it would be in the FF forum, but since this is simply looking for referals, ect, it really should be in a general area. I can't say that with any real authority, but it's how I see it.

i think the game is fun.
personally i dont like the idea of paying monthly to play because it adds up quickly and in 5 years you cant say "hey i wanna play ffxi again" because the servers will be down.
but the beta was fun.

Okay, even the UO servers are still up, chief. That's over six years. EQ is going on five years now, stronger than ever. AC has been out about four. DAoC about four.
Let me say this again: THE SERVERS ARE NOT GOING TO DISAPPEAR.
Oh my god. The servers will be up for a long time to come. Not every MMORPG player, especially the Japanese, given the market for them over there, jumps from MMO to MMO, I know plenty of EQ players who have been playing since release, and don't plan on playing any of the new MMORPGs coming out, because EQ is what they know and love. Same in all the other games I've played. So long as there's a decent enough market, the servers are going to stay up. And that market base is NOT going to disappear in a mere four years from now.

Now, I have noticed that all subsequent characters are defaulted to the server your first character is on, but these people are creating their mains, not an extra character, thus, they are able to reroll until they get onto a specific server. Stop spreading lies. =/

i just picked a random number. but my point is the servers wont be up forever. there will be a time where you cant play ffxi anymore. i could go play an atari game right now and have no problems and those are over 20 years old. could you play FFXI in 20 years?
and 5 years of $13 a month is quite a bit of money.
Michael
November 17th, 2003, 10:39 AM
Pick realistic numbers then. 20 years is a realistic number. 10 years is a realisitc number, but considering there are MMORPGs still running beyond the five year mark, it's not nearly a long shot.
And you know what? I don't care if $13 over five years is a lot of money. That money not only makes sure the servers stay up as long as possible, and also funds development of subsequent games for when the current one dies out, as well as the servers to run them. Sorry, there's nothing that will make me addopt this idea that paying for a game is a bad completely incomprehensible and shameful act. It's an ignorant point of view. You go on and keep playing your Diablo 2 and your FPS games for free. You have fun with your games that have official updates two or three times then are completely forgotten by the devolopment companies. You have fun with your online games with terrible online services with zero active enforcement of cheats and hacks. You have fun in your games playing with all the 1337 kiddies who can't formulate a single coherant statement with their character name of "super_wet_girl--" who obviously are always the better player than you, because you aren't using a cookie cutter character progression, because you feel like being something different from the rest of the powergaemrs, you "fscking n00b!" (in the words of the players you'll much more frequently run into)
Michael
November 17th, 2003, 10:46 AM
You should play on my server, because I'm awesome, or something. Even though someone apparently doesn't want me getting to 30. Well, should be easier since the power gaming white/red mages are catching up, given I made 27 in the middle of the week, and there was kinda this large gap between us. I could probably group in Batallia Downs much more easily now, even though I did the Kazham quest for supah xp. Meh, Kazham is so worth it, but only if you can get a group, and it seems most of the japanese players organise a party before they even get there, so pick up groups are very hard to find, boo~
I'm in two LSs, one is my hardcore level/raid LS, and the other being a bunch of friends. Since they're friends, they don't care I'm in the hardcore one doing my thing. Anyway, I'm sure we could find some room for you in Discord if you enjoy the game.
There're some new screens up, by the way~

I think you just proved his point. We'll both be glad not seeing you on the plains!
Don't be bitter because we have grown up and no longer rely on our parents money. You have to be 18 to sign up for the account anyway. That or have a willing parent/guardian. This game is obviously not meant for people who still collect $3 in their piggy bank every Saturday.
If I'm wrong and you happen to be over 18 and supporting yourself, it's too bad that you can't afford $12 a month, which is less than a carry-out pizza. Playing games is a privilege, not a right.
World of Warcraft will also be $10 or more. Every MMORPG costs about that much.

Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha <breathe> hahahahahahahahahahaha. Nice, cheif.
You didn't understand my post AT ALL. The whole end of the post was satire.
you don't have the time to ****ing spellcheck every word.
Nope, and "gaem" is a common typo. See, I enjoy mocking terrible typing skills and overly common typos. It's the same idea of how such terms as 'pwned' got popular. I frequently use 'teh,' 'si,' 'gaem,' 'powar,' 'etf,' and the like, especially in jest.
Now, because it's obviously beyond you, my use of 'fscking n00b' wasn't me calling you a noob. It's me mocking the fact that you have infinititely more uberleethardcorepowergaming elitists in free online games who think if you aren't as specific character build, or you don't play the game a specific way, you are gimp, a "fscking noob," and you can't hang with them. Notice there was no ending of a sentence there. Notice how I was carrying on the same idea. Notice how I was speaking specifically of Diablo 2. Notice that it all flows together to make the point I just explained. Notice I specifically noted that I was speaking as if I were such a character.
I've played Diablo, StarCraft, and Diablo 2 all for a long time over battle.net. I know what I'm talking about, and I'm going to mock it. Sorry, there's no way you can convince me that battle.net servers are just as good as any MMORPG's servers are. Why? Because I'm paying for them. I'm paying to make sure dumbasses don't name their character "super_wet_girl" and get away with it. And beyond that, the fact that you must to pay for the game weeds out majority of the immature children out there, because unless they can get mommy or daddy to pay for them, they aren't going to be playing. This is a major plus.
Sure there are still powergaming supah elitists on MMORPGs, and there are still immature children, and people who need to be drug out into the streets and shot, and complete idiots, but we have a significant number less than free games. It's sort of like college. Since you're paying for college, you tend to straighten up, or get the **** out. That or you slack and go to cheap schools just to get something accomplished.

Yes, obviously you have a 66drk/60war. See, you have a character already. This patch you speak of probably was for alternate characters-- subsequent Content IDs. Your first ID is not bound to a server. Your very first character you CAN reroll until you end up somewhere. I originally myself started on Valefor, and decided to reroll a monk (made original character a warrior, because I myself believed that the patch you mentioned affected your main character, and I didn't want to be level 10 when my friends all started) and ended up on Odin instead. Every single one of my friends has rerolled their first Content ID to end up on Odin with me. I've played with alternate characters during my free month, after adding two Content IDs just to mess around and send things around to buy low and sell high at the AH. I've deleted and recreated the second Content ID's character mutliple times, and I cancelled my third one. Either way, all of these characters have infact ended up on Odin, regardless of how many times I reroll them. This, I assume, is your patch.
The fact remains, people can reroll to get onto specific servers. I don't care how long you've played, I've done it. My friends have done it. American forums are flooded with this method. Everyone knows about it. Why? Because it works.

Ok, ok, I admit my defeat but now I am going to make some comments on what you both posted. (Michael, Tyler_Durden)
We'll both be glad not seeing you on the plains!
Hahahaha. You better hope not. I might still get this game and then I just might grind your *** into the ground.
Notice how many times you said notice in that paragragh? Not all the online servers are that bad. I only played on the StarCraft and WarCraft 3 servers but I think that WarCraft 3 has pretty good game quality for a "free" online game. Sure, you get a few annoying 11 year olds on WarCraft 3 but I've seen many more people over the age of 20 playing WarCraft 3 online then I 've seen even people under the age of 15 playing.

what I don't get is......
Why does everyone NOW like the Dragoon class.......
I mean everyone hates Kain and he IS the Dragoon of Final Fantasy, yet now for some reason everyone wants to become one........
If you know me at all, you would have guess from the moment they added Dragoons to this game was the day I started saving up.
I will honor the name of Kain by pimping out his threads all over Vana'diel
and btw Dragoons suck in the game.:P

Dragoons does not suck in the game. Maybe when they're still on the lower level, but once you get a Dragoon on level 20, then its on!
Too bad I havent been able to play as much as I want to. I am rather busy doing work and I really miss this game. I cant wait to get back into it and get my character going.

Ninja do have their uses. Given, yes, they are an expsive class, up there with ranger, so to be a good ninja translates to having a lot of money. They're a class better suited to leveling after you've got some other classes well off.
Use wise, people will sub ninja as a ranger for dual wielding daggers. Ranger damage in incredible as is, even more so with their weapon skills. The two chosen ranger sub job routes that involve hardcore TP are samurai for Store TP and Meditate, or ninja for dual wielding daggers for quick, multiple strikes. Up to the player, really.
I just completed the ninja quest myself, as well as the samurai quest. I'm going samurai, but I figure I may as well get all of the quests I can done. I plan on doing Dragoon last~ Well not all, the hell with summoner. And all of the other quests are just running around, for the most part.
And I've always loved dragoons. I can't eally say since Kain, because I never got into the FF series. I was a Chrono Trigger and Seken Densetsu kind of guy. Tactics is what brought forth my love for Dragoons. Since it will be the class I take to 70, I'm going to do it last. But I've said this 39843 times already. =p

Final Fantasy is a disgrace compared to the classics. RPGs nowadays have very very complicated magic systems or is just way too hard to stomach. I really don't like the way final fantasy has gone. I liked the generic classics better, where you were able to choose your own classes in the game. It just got too weird for me -_-.

Yeah, you can get a good amount of money from auctioning crystals at the Auction house. Not as much as you used to though. Fire crystals used to go for at least 2000 gil per stack, but they've dropped down to only about 1000 gil per stack. I think people are starting to become a little more careful on what they blow their money on.

No, you'll get ripped off from selling them to a vender. The Auction house isn't too confusing. Just select the stack of crystals and set the price you want them to be sold at. Then check your sales status a few hours later to see if they sold and if they have, confirm the sale and the money will be delivered to your delivery box at your house.

Ack, you'll be lucky to get even 200 gil for a stack of earth crystals. If you want a general idea on how much to auction items for, go to Bid at the Auction House and browse through the items until you find what you want to sell. Then go to Sales History on the item you selected and that will tell you how much the item has been selling for.
I made about 5000 gil the first night I started messing around with the Auction House. That let me buy a whole new set of armor. :D

Well they're great party boosters. I'm going to be a bard/white mage, and essentially that makes me someone that everybody will want in their party, being that they can heal, cast buffers, recharge mana, and a myriad of other useful things. But they're not very good in combat... Which is why no one wants to be one.
I on the other hand don't care about that... Although it is pretty funny, all you have to do is say, "I'm a white mage." And people respond with, really? Wanna come along? We'll help you level.
It's great. Meeting people is super easy as a WHM, and it'll only get easier as a Bard/WHM
And I know exactly what you mean. I have friends here on AN on Leviathan, and buddies in my WoW clan on Ramuh. I'm gonna have to shell out that extra dollar a month to play with both.

I would wait till you gain a higher level before re-classing to another job. For example, you reached lvl 30 as a thief and you decided to do the Dragoon quest. When you re-class to a Dragoon, you will start to level 1 (you probably already know this so I apologize if I offended you) and you will keep half of the level of your last job (lv 15 thief)..that should, however, be suffice enough for you to go around and take huge amounts of damage and still get lots of XP when you level up.. I hope that answers your question. Theres a lot more that goes into it but I just wanted to give you the basic idea.
Michael
November 22nd, 2003, 10:14 PM
Uhm.
That's not how sub jobs work. Sub jobs are half of your MAIN job. So if you got thief to 30, then took dragoon, you would be a 1 dragoon, 1 thief. Your thief would level up with you, every other level, until 60. At that point it would fall behind. You would have a little more HP, and you would get the stat bonuses you would have gained at the level of your sub job. So at, say, 60/30, you have 60th dragoon stats, plus all of the bonus points added from level a 30 thief.
The way you explain it makes it sound like you'd be a level 1 dragoon with the stats of a 15 thief, meaning you'd start with like 200hp... doesn't work that way. Also, you made it sound like your sub job gets screwed over... like you'd have to max out TWO classes to effectively sub job. Nope, you only have to keep it at half of your main level. I don't know what they're raising the cap to, but for an example of how I'm doing it, I'm eventually going Dragoon / Samurai. I have samurai already (level 15), and I'll level him to 35 (half of 70), then I'll start with dragoon, and grind to 70. Thus, I would have a 70 dragoon / 35 samurai.
Also, of course a thief outdamages a warrior, like, everything outdamages a warrior. Warriors take the hits, not deal them. =p

Aside from the +$1 per character (which I don't know, I don't think it's that bad, given your one character can be anything you want, and you don't lose any work for changing, like you do in SWG.), FFXI costs as much as just about every other MMORPG out there. $13~15 is the standard price. I'm sure it's fairly safe to assume WoW will follow suit.

Should I get it too? I don't play MMORG. The reason I am thinking about getting it is because my brother always play diablo 2 online. Hell I don't even play regular final fantasy games much. I just watch my brother and sister play them. I love the music and story aspects of it. The only final fantasy game I ever beat, with gameshark on, was FFX. Man! I feel once I purchase it, I shouldn't have to pay more to play it. but that still ain't much compare to ps2 users. they have to buy a hardrive, keyboard and a mouse. I wonder how many average ps2 users purchase FFXI the day it come out only to find that you need to purchase additional accessories and pay monthly to play it. But I still considering, maybe I should? first month is free right?

3. Is the game played so heavily that it suffers from lag like in RO?
4. How does the game handle polygon polulation on the horizon? In other words, pop up, or fade in?
And finally....
5. Is the story actually worth playing through, or is it just stuck in there for a loose sense of progression?

3. Is the game played so heavily that it suffers from lag like in RO?

1. Yes, there is a service fee. It's 12.95/month and +1$ for every character, and another dollar if you want to play Tetra Master.
2. 110 is a small budged for a graphics card. In the way of ATI you could get a 9200 for about 108.00$ or you could get a GeForce FX series card but from what i've heard they're not great. They would run this game better than what you have now.
3. This game does not lag. The frames might skip but that is from your computer not being able to handle it. The servers get hardware updates and all that regularly.
4. um......I think pop up.
5. I'm not to sure about the story. Its a good addition but you don't realy have to do it...at least I don't think. You make the story progress by accepting missions from the guards around the palace. When finished or while doing these missions, the story progresses.

The story is actually looking pretty decent, I hope it continues to do so. ;)
And the draw distance in the game is pretty good, it's not very noticiable, but it does suffer a slight bit being that FFXI is made to play on the PS2 as well.

I would wait until the whole emigration thing is over. Right now what the servers are trying to achieve is to balance out the worlds. Too many people want to get into Ragnarok and each time someone buys a world pass to Ragnarok, it can be used up to 5x. Economy sucks right now in Ragnarok anyway.

I say go with Leviathan. There seems to be a lot of people from AN in there. As for me, I may end up staying in Ragnarok because I've already established my character there. Though if I do make another character, I might go to Leviathan.

I decided to just hang out today at San d'Oria and I ran into a little girl at the port. Then a cut-scene showed and there was a thief called "esca" thats causing trouble. I tried to chase after Esca after being asked to do so. I asked all the other NPC's and they lead me to Ronparre's gate. After that, I cant find her anymore. Does anyone here know where I could find her?

there's gonna be a little tower thing out in the woods. its on the west side of the map as soon as you go outside the way they told you. shes in that little tower.
but the bad thing is i never figured out how to get the item back. i talked to her and she said "who are you? go away!" and thats it...

Thanks SRT, and I think I know how to get it back.
Remember that little girl at the port of San d'Oria? Well if you talk to her again, she will give you an eagle button. I believe it belongs to Esca (the thief), if you give it back to her, she might give you the item back. I havent tried this, but I will try it as soon as I log back in.
Thanks again SRT!

The people on the server you want to go to have to buy you a world pass. Then you can create a character on another server.
Also, I've discovered having more that one character isn't really worth it, since you'll just lose time that you could be using to stay around the same level as your friends.
The only reason I have a secondary character now is as a mule. ;)

Aelice,
Some are snobbish, especially the NA gamers that has imported the JP version months ago. A lot of them are very arrogant because they consider themselves as elite and they think they know it all. I am really cool, when I see someone getting killed by orcs or goblins (or any fiends in particular) I aggro them to me and let that adventuerer heal themselves. I also offer my services as a "Tank" to party's that needs a warrior. Yesterday, I helped out a WHM to do some quest outside town but he wasnt powerful enough to wander around. He's at least five levels down and I know that I wont get any experience out of it, but you know what? I'd rather make friends and alliances than to level up by myself. Cause you never know, these people that you help out will one day help you out when you least expect it. :)

I agree on this 200%..Actually, I want to speak on a subject thats rarely talked about. I am having a hard time with the honor system here in Ragnarok. Now I dont mean to single out the NA players, but a lot of the NA gamers here are dicks when it comes to the honor system. What I am talking about is things like aggroing an obvious target that you've been after for quite some time. Just right now, I've been waiting around King Ronparrre's Tomb for three nights. I am looking for a particular quest item. Two nights and I got nothing. Then on the third night, I was waiting some more and out pops the Spook (the fiend that will drop this item). I was about to attack it but some ******* behind it aggroed it. Worst of all, he got the item that I've been looking for for the past two nights. This guy just laughed and took off. When Ragnarok was dominated by the JP players, they played it cool and whoever was there first was given the priority to defeat the spook. Id never see a JP gamer aggro a target that I've chased after or anyone else. But I guess a lot of NA players just dont have any consideration. I hope none of you AN residents are like this, cause I'd hate to play with the likes of those people..especially in my party. To me it jus means that they're just looking out for themselves and it doesnt matter who they stop on along the way. I aint like that!

Yes it's happened to me before as well, A friend and I were using the Palborough mines as a levelling spot. We were getting about 60 exp a kill and all of a sudden a group of 6 people come into our spot kill everything, and then wait around for stuff to spawn.
So eventually we started aggro stealing their targets because we had nothing left. They called us rude elitists and left.
People like that suck. If they had simply asked to have one side of the room while we had the other I would have been totally fine with it, but no they had to have the whole place...
Yeah, as a white mage I also heal as many people as I can that are in trouble and help them fight off tough mobs, regardless if I am in their party or not. I've helped many JP gamers even, to which I can only respond to them with the auto translating, I'm sorry I don't understand, and then a bow.
Some NA gamers are idiots, some are cool. I think it's probably the same in Japan.
(And I'm getting close to your level, so don't act like it's such a travesty Scar. Besides when you go Dragoon I'm going to have to wait 30 levels before you're back up to my level. So hush.)

The one thing I can't stand is to call for help, I don't engage into fights I know I can't win. BUT, this one time when I felt like the fight was tipped towards the goblin I was fighting I asked for help from some San elves. They watched as my life slowly chipped away and made me waste my damn 2 hr.........
When the fight was over, I wanted to think that they were japanese players and just didn't understand me, but then they started speaking in english. Really pissed me off and what not.
But, that experience led me to play better in the game, because now I have a deep hatred for San elves, just like any Bastokian should have.:)

Heh. Should see Paladin/Warrior at level 30. Freaking insane. Three passive Defensive Bonuses. Sentinal. Protect II. Cure III. My friend was tanking IT mandragora and making them look easy, from a tanks side. He had over 200 defense. My monk only has like 120 at 31. Sure my Samurai has more like 125 at 27, still freaking insane.
In total I have 17~18 full days of /playtime. I don't leave my character logged on. It's all pure me actually sitting there and playing. Given that it's only been over a month, that's kinda sad, heh.
As a general update;
Name: Kanzen
World: Odin
Race: Elvaan
Job: 31 monk / 15 thief
Other jobs: 27 samurai, 17 thief, 10 warrior, 8 ranger, 5 ninja
Plans: mnk/thf to 59, upon 60, mnk/sam.
Rank: 4 (yay, completed Wednesday. We start Rank 5 Friday, but I'll be out seeing The Last Samurai. Friends + movie more important ;p)
And I've met some really annoying as christ japanese players as well as americans. Sure not as great in number, but regardless, I wanted to stab them in the face. My primary LS has to deal with a number of NA punks. :/ On Odin we're probably the strongest NA release LS as a whole. We get a lot of applicants who think they have what it takes, but just turn out to be idiots. I'm sure I sound elitist right now (which I am), but this isn't an elitist issue. We're talking about schuduled raids people have to prepare for.. and they decide to prepare an hour before. And sit there and constantly spam LS on how to do it, even after people tell them how. People who refuse to do anything on their own, they just sit there and make people tell them how to do everything. I mean christ, we had a 30 warrior who didn't know how to get to Windurst. Bleh. It's a hardcore/elitist guild. If you can't travel between the three basic cities on your own by level 30, we don't have time to teach you hours before a guild function and help you kill a dragon. :/
[continues reading as many posts as history will show]
Yeah, Rangers are expensive as hell. If you have any desire to use a gun (http://www.altimit.cc/ffxiss/gun01.jpg)(2 (http://www.altimit.cc/ffxiss/gun02.jpg)). That gun (thief usable, level 15 Bandit's gun) cost me 9000 gil. The ammo, bronze bullets, cost me 6000 gil for 99. It has 600 delay. That means it takes me a full minute to ready a shot and fire. It's terrible with thief, having half ranger bonus damage (I was subbing ranger at the time just to fool around, mostly so I had access to the Hot Shot weapon skill), and only 10 skill in it. If I ever did hit, even with Sharpshot up, I'd only do like 13 damage. I was doing near 100 everytime at level 16 with Sneak Attack + Fast Blade.. it wasn't worth it... but it looked so freaking sweet (as you can well see).
Elvaan WHM would not have been a bad choice. People here may agrue with me all they want because Elvaan have a crappy MP pool, but they have the highest mind attribute of all the races. They make very solid healers because of this. There are a lot of high level elvaan whms around, heh. And I personally hate the taru race. Just seeing one makes me want to cry-- then find the people specifically responsible for their creation and stab them mercilessly. Rage.
I'll have to send you a tell sometime, roronoa. Same server and all. ;p

Ninja are really expensive as well. I mean, sure you could just be a ninja, not use any of your ninjutsu, and just dual wield katana... but what makes ninja stand apart from the other melee classes are their ninjutsu skills. And on Odin, the first scroll you get at level 9 sells for 15,000g. That's not including any of the powders to use it. Wehave a thf/nin who was 40+ in a couple weeks from release. He was dual wielding daggers, and had some of the ninjutsu skills, but he couldn't keep up with it. He wasn't able to stay on top of buying armor and weapons and still using ninjutsu powders. So he ended up changing his sub. He was 44, a thief, and still couldn't keep up with it. ;p
Ninja isn't really a good first adv job class. Well, unless you have the patience to use your thief to stand around in newbie areas farming stacks upon stacks of items to sell in the AH. When I raised money for the above mentioned gun and ammo, I went to Inner Horuhoto ruins as mnk/thf and killed bats for a few hours until I had 5 full stacks of them. They all sold for 2500 per. So I mean, it's not like you couldn't make money for it... you'd just have to pause from your normal playing. I wasted the two days before my Rank 4 raid finishing missions then farming items for cash.
I changed my mind on what I was doing after grinding a second character to near 30. I'd kill myself if I started yet another character grind to 30. So instead, I'm just going to stick with Monk, because it's what I know and love. I've always been quite attatched to the monk type classes, so I'll save my dragoon aspirations for rainy days when I can't stand the level grind of my monk.

I may get this for Christmas, but I think that finding a group of people to play that I enjoy may be a difficult/akward task. I hear a lot of complaining about World Passes to play with friends; won't be a problem for me since none of my friends play, so I'm kinda over that.
Still, sometimes it's too damn tempting to resist......Must stop looking at jaw dropping screenshots.....

I haven't played it yet, but I've been reading up about it here (http://ffvault.ign.com/) and at its official (http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/index.shtml) website. Hope that provides some insight.

I wish I can honestly tell you the info about the game..But even as a FFXI gamer myself, I dont know all the details but the basics. However, if you dont mind browsing through this site (http://www.ffxionline.com) , it will surely help you with just about any information that need.

Funny, I actually ran into this same problem at the same place!! Btw, just in case you didnt know, the Spook will appear usually 2x a night (once around 8pm and again around midnight).
The very first time I came there, there was another person there already. Luckily it was just the two of us at the tomb however (since usually there's plenty more). I asked him if he was waiting for the Spook to appear, and he said yes; so when the first Spook appeared, I let him have it and it dropped the item he wanted. He thanked me and "let" me have the second Spook. Seemed fine to me, although with my luck I didnt get the item. Now, anytime since then I've revisited the tomb during the hours that the Spook's supposed to spawn, there's always several guys waiting there and its a contest of who can draw aggro fastest (and some of them are damn fast at it!!) What's annoying is that the same quick-fingered guy tends to get all the chances instead of simply cooperating.
Worse, this problem IMO is not restrictive to NA players; I witnessed similar behavior from JP players; perhaps there used to be some civil order in these situations, but everyone who used to "play nice" is maybe forced to also be an *** b/c otherwise they won't get whatever it is they're after (an unfortunately vicious cycle)
oh well, btw, nobody here is on Kujata? :D Come on, it's a nice world!!

Hardcore,
I got sick of waiting for that damn spook. I took it out several times and It never gave me the item that I wanted...so I just bought the item at the AH *LOL*. I kno its cheating, but I rather complete it than be stuck with waiting for more spooks. But I heard night creatures give em out anyway. And you're right, even some of the JP players that I play with can be ***** a lot of times. Its getting better IMO. When adventurers becomes higher in level, they become nicer cause they need help :) thats how i See it. Kujata huh? sounds like a nice place...

The Warchief Vagtit is very tough if you're around Lv 15-20. I wouldnt recommend fighting this guy if you're below lv 15. Even at lv 15, you'd better have some WHM with ya. I actually went against the Vagtit by myself. However, I had two WHM helping me out. I used MithKabob to boost my stat, my 2HR (mighty strikes) and a 300 TP weapon ability. It gave me 120 XP at the end. I should have taken some pics, but I didnt get a chance to. I will do it again tonight, this time I will use FRAPS to take both photos and a video of it.

Actually, the item drop that the Spook gives for one of the quests I ended up buying at the AH as well. However, that item isn't what I was trying to get; the Spook also (albeit less often) drops another item (a mantle) which is the real reason you see that spot constantly hoarded (because people want to sell it for lots of gil at AH); so, unfortunately, buying that item at the AH kind of defeats the purpose of getting it for me :D
Guess I need to find another means of making non-trivial amounts of money in the game.

Heh. I want to play dragoon... but I don't. Beacause that means I'd have to start over at level one AGAIN. I've already grinded monk to 30, samurai to 30, and thief to 20. I still have to grind thief to 25. If I were to keep going with samurai, it'd be smarter for me to grind warrior higher for a sub job. Warrior is only level 10. Too much freaking grinding for me, I want to see more of the game. So dragoon is just going to kinda sit back. I'll consider dragoon later, but right now, I'm just going to focus on being a supah monk, something not all that often seen comparitively speaking~

how do you do it...get to those high levels like that?
I'm only lvl 12 and it seems hard. Most of this week has been slow for playing. Not much time to play :(
HardCore
December 11th, 2003, 06:35 PM
how early you benefit from partying depends on your job (i.e. white mages will probably need to start partying earlier than monks)
as for finding parties, just use the 'search' option and the 'find member' sub-option under the 'party' menu; you should be able to find people pretty easily, and most are nice as far as indicating whether they'll party or not if you ask nicely

Basically, no Chocobo License until level 20.
Once you have the License though, you're able to ride them at level 15, rather than having to be 20. The license isn't an end-all-be-all for chocobo riding, your active main job (right now) must be level 20, or you won't be able to rent a chocobo. It's about to be lowered to 15. But at 15, you'll only be able to rent chocobo from the three main kingdoms, not the crags, nor in Jeuno.
