I got all my Kazham keys AND I got rank 3 yesterday, took me 6 straight hours going back and forth between so many places, I could of saved time if I finished in one place completely before going to another one but I had a LS member give me free teleports the whole time so it wasnt so long.
I love the airships and Kazham ^_^

My opinion has changed slightly of a WHM, by only a little. Don't get me wrong there are some awesome WHMs out there, but the majority I know just seem greedy. I understand that they do need money like everyone else, but to charge for a raise just seems like you are taking advantage of someone in a sticky situation, teleport is fine but raise is not. So basically if you charge for a Raise I don't like you, but if you charge for a teleport I don't resent you. ^^;;
I really can't believe how fast my BLM is lvling, I dinged about 4 times in 2 days, that's a record for me. I finally got it up to the level where it's maxed out as my sub for my RDM but I'm taking it all the way out of Valkurm. I haven't been back to San d'Oria yet but when I do I'm stocking up on major supplies to craft for goldsmithing, and some fishing gear to get my fishing up to code. With my gloves on I should be pulling in Moat Carp with my composite rod in no time! ^^;; Oh and Aelice your new Elvaan on your site looks REALLY good, good job on that! Glad you got it up and running now you just need to make that RDM one with AF gear and you'll see me sporting that as a fine avvie for AN, though no rush on that! ^^;;

I HATE whms that charge for raises, I would never do that. I'd accept money after the raise but I wouldnt ask for it.

Starting from scratch with fishing always sucks Odyssey. Even with fishing gear it'll take hours to make gains. Just don't go spending your money on expensive rods/bait since your rods will break at low levels. If you have the persistence it will pay off though. On a good moon you can pull in thousands of gil in fish.
There's always been a debate on charging for raises and a lot of the general consensus I've found is fees shouldn't be tacked on to a raise but donations are welcome. Personally I don't ask for gil or take donations on any raises I do. Charging a fee can screw you in the end as word can spread around pretty fast about people and their actions.
Got BLM (http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/profile.xml?36290) to 34 and WHM (http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/profile.xml?14580) to 37. I want to level up BLM some more but it's becoming increasingly expensive for all the spells I need and gear I want. WHM has been a somewhat smoother experience since I already have most of my major spells out of the way (erase, level 36 teleports, shell/shellra II). I'm not looking forward to the quest for teleport-yhoat though <_<. From the descriptions I've read it sounds like the Carbuncle Ruby drop all over again.

I've been dedicating my time to leveling BRD. ^_^ I am still in love with the job. Only lvl 28 BRD so far, but when classes are over I can do serious work on poor Rin. :)

As a former WHM, those that demand gil for raises suck. Those that accept donations is fine, AS LONG AS THEY DONT ASK FOR IT. O_o I myself donate WHM gil for raising me. ^^ Many dont accept it, and in that case I give them fireworks. XD
Charging for teleports is fine. Charging for Warp2 is fine.
Just dont charge for raises, taking advantage of people when they're dead is sad. :(

Hooray for the man with 4 subs. BLM so I can LFG when farming, BST so I can hardcore farm, and MNK and NIN for exp parties. 3 of the 4 are ready for now, but I want them all at 25 so I can leave them alone till 50.
On a side note...
BST IS F***ing HARD! Exceptionally entertaining though. It's just really tiring to get killed by a Goblin after you've just mowed down 5 or 6 DCs to EMs. I have very literally died more times yesterday and today in Konschtat Highlands then my combined time in the dunes, Qufim, and Kaz as THF, BLM, NIN, and WAR, Mijin Gakure deaths excepted.

Man, lvling BLM is a breeze, I'm now level 17 in Valkurm and even had a party of 14s and 15s just want me to stay cause they thought I was that good! ^^;;; Now keep in mind they already had subs and even the Japanese one was impressed, so I'm alittle proud of that. ^-^

how far do you think I canget in the game without taking up much of a craft? >> I'm still working on Fishing a bit (I got it up to lvl 1!! yay <_< ) but I'd like to get out there and keep fighting and stuff, I mean, I seriously want to get some more quests and stuff done.... crap there's a lot to do in this game >.o

Honestly? Crafts are totally optional. Done properly, you can cut down on your farming time by a good chunk. You don't HAVE to take up a craft. It will just help you level by buying you gear, if you pick the right things to craft.
Edit: You do need a good chunk to invest though.

I got my fishing skill up to lvl 3 and I'm in by far the coolest place I've been to yet, Rabao, fishing up Rusty caps, rusty buckets, and moat carp. :D

Rabao is SO sexy. ^^ My favorite spot next to Jugnar Lake. :P Dunno why, but I loves that lake so much.
Bibiki bay is gonna be a great fishing spot! ^_^ I cant WAIT for CoP to come out!

I died 3 times today in Kazham ><
One of them in Yhaotor Jungle when there were 8 - 9 Gobs all trained to the zone... I was killed when there was only 2 but every time they started to walk back another person was being chased by one so the others joined in and they kept building up...
I even got a pic of it ^^

Oh, yesterday was fun. I hit 15 with BST, brought it into the dunes, and started on Sand Bats. Somewhere in there, I got an invite. Because it was the dunes, I made sure the person inviting me didn't want me to play White Mage, and he didn't. So I charmed then 2 Hred some EM Night Bats and brought myself over to his camp. All was good until we had some ignorant Bard in the party (No offense Aelice -_-; ) who kept insisting my pets were draining party exp. (They weren't) because the Guide said so (It does) and that it was right (It wasn't). After he said pets were weak and doing nothing, I asked if he'd like to solo one. That shut him up... sorta. I did get a lot of questions from the other members though, like "What is my favorite pet" and the like. In the end, I educated about 10 people on what BST pets do to the party exp: Nothing. I mean, you'd think the bard would shut up given that the party was getting 200 exp a kill, but nooooo.....
Anyway, the party brought me about 2/3s of the way to 17, so I can find some EM pets with relative ease. Later, there will be more ownage. As soon as I can be bothered to get off the net.

Got to level 29 today, I'm so close to getting the advanced jobs now ^^
I'm still going to go a summoner but I'm going to unlock and try out all the advanced jobs along with summoner just to see if I like any others more.

I am ALSO pissed at that guide mistype that claims the whole PT experiences an XP loss with BST and their pets. >_<; LOL a lot of Bards are full of themselves. :P I -ONLY- lecture people when they dont seem to understand that mages need to keep their distance if they want Ballad instead of madrigal and Minuet. X_X a BLM in our PT was raising his dagger skill, and expected me to some keep Madrigal and Ballad on him?? (He kept moving around >_<)

Oh, lovely. Everyone just loves to make everyone else's life difficult. Why don't I just ask for Madrigal and Minne while the rest of the melee get Madrigal and Minuet?
Anyway, hit 17 today. For some reason, God didn't want me to level easily, so I found maybe 2 EMs in 1 hour of looking... got killed a bunch more then that. So I went to Buburimu Peninsula in hopes that I could find more EMs, and at the Bubu/Tahrongi zone line I found DC/EM/T Rarabs and Mandragoras. I quickly learned to ignore the Beast chart in this case, because Mandies are just so weak. I'd charm bunnies and fight Mandies, and it went well. Also, since most bunnies either popped up as DC or T, I learned that I could just zone after a fight, my bunny would unclaim and lose all aggro to me, and I could just let it rest up in preparation for the next fight. This killed my TP, but gave me a guaranteed pet, so I find the tradeoff to be worth it. I'm 17 now, and I'm probably going back to the dunes, this time knowing I'll be able to find DC/EM Lizards and Bunnies. At 18 or maybe 19 I can start using Snippers. Good times.

Got my fishing skill up to level 8, I swear to God, Rabao is the sweetest place I've ever been in the game. I love it there, the music is so soothing, I'll cast Invisible and Sneak on Candice when she gets it, even if she is just lvl 1 I'll carry her there just to see it, it's that awesome! Problem is, the Huge Spiders, giants, and Antmen you gotta run past to get there. ^^;;
I changed my avatar to one of a Elvaan from a webcomic, I still want Aelice to do a RDM one when she can so I can proudly display it, but this one of the Elvaan that has the same face as me will have to do for now. ^-^
Edit: I read on Mystery Tour on some of the things being added in Chains, and apparently we are getting a ".hack-like" addition, there is a thing called "The Emptiness" that is changing the world into a odd version of itself. It looks really cool and really spooky!

Oh, I've seen that. It looks spiff. I wouldn't really say .Hack-like, but whatever.
Oh, and I'm convinced that God doesn't want me to level BST. Everything is still DC or T. In the friggin' dunes. I got a few thousand more exp, then headed to Jeuno hoping to do BCNM 40s. But our RDM didn't show. Something about a really hard day at work. Anyway, we should be doing them in 10 hours, so hey. I'm hoping to buy my Boots and Hairpin after this, and send Scar his back. I'll just be friggin' proud to have my own after all this time.

By lvl 30 I'll need a Gladius to replace my Logn Sword, a Centurion's Scale Mail to replace my Beetle thing..., A Mercenary Captains Belt to replace my Friar's Rope, Studden Trousers to replace my Beetle Subliger, a Wolf Mantle (preferably +1 but that would cost more) to replace my Dhalmel Mantle, 2 Black Earrings in Place of my Onyx ones, and if I could I'd really like a Silver Hairpin +1 to replace my Silver Hairpin and a Holy Phial to replace my Justice Badge. Not to mention I need scrolls of Cure III, Protect II, Enfire, Enblizzard, Enwater, and Thunder. x_x So I really need to fish, a lot, but I need the Hose and Boots, hence more cost, I could also farm but I wanna get THF to 15 so I can use Treasure Hunt, and that means THF equipment. x.x Are there any good NMs a lvl 30 or a group of lvl 30s could camp or something? >>;

I got to around 1k through level 30 so incase I died I wouldnt level down... I'm glad I did because I spent nearly an hour trying to get out of Yutunga Jungle (with sneak and invis on the whole time) and ended up giving up and killing myself to warp back to Kazham. Its easy enough to get in to the place but since you have to drop down a hole to get through I couldnt find my way back up <_<
I started the Bard quest because I had to go to Bubumiru and thats where I WAS going to go to kill leeches for the carbuncles ruby....
After running around on chocobo for ages through the place I finally discovered the small beaches that had a lot of the poison leeches in them that were all rated as easy prey.. I couln't even solo 1 of them and a second one came over... since I had already died getting back to Kazham if I died again I would level down.. I was very lucky that there was a level 30 warrior right near me who helped ^^
Looks like I'll need some help unlocking summoner then or I'll just try to find some weaker leeches somewhere else.. I cant even think of any places with them besides Valkurm which would be the same level.

Slowly making headway with my BLM. Through some miracle I got it up to 36 in Garlaige Citadel but unfortunately it's without an experience buffer so I have to be extra careful. Wanted to pick up all my scrolls to 40 but after seeing the price of Warp II I decided to quest for it instead. Having a WHM with sneak/invisible has been a huge blessing. I've been able to solo all my teleport quests (except Yhoat) and a couple of quests including the one for Warp II. So now I have all my spells for WHM/BLM to 40 and all the gear I'll need to upgrade WHM at 40. All that's left is saving for BLM gear and I can start leveling again :).

Anyway, I made a good 30k in easily sellable goods today. Silver Beastcoins, Beastman's Blood, Crawler Silk, Boyahda Moss, and Tree Cuttings (Which aren't cash yet, as I must finish the stack). I took Alchemy up to 8.5, and am about to do a spiff quest for a Ninja Katana that's in Bastok. I just got a pop a chest in Palborough, and I'm just gonna get the key. Sure, I could pick it.... but Thieves tools are hard to get cheap, and the key isn't that bad to get.

Seriously though, I only learned those jungles by getting lost in them. Repeatedly. I could actually survive this, because I normally keep Invis powder on me, and as long as you keep distant of Malboros and Sahagin, there's no aggro by sound. If I stop paying attention, I can get just as lost as anyone else, till I find one of the clearings. Someone DID teach me the way to Yhoator though, after about 20 near deaths. Thing is, I don't need it anymore either, both because I learned Yhoator, and because I'm not going back for a LOOOONG time. The maps have one use in a party: Finding your teammates. Then again, that's none too helpful either, since it doesn't anyway, and the thing about those jungles is that the path on the map almost never go the way they say.
Edit: Gotten plenty from the web. Haven't needed a map yet though. Then again, I still haven't done my RSE, still haven't done most of the other chest dependent stuff.

I unlocked Ranger and Bard today. After reading about how to unlock the others it sounds like Samurai and Ninja are going to be a pain to do ><
I'm going to level up bard for a while now because I cant be bothered unlocking any other jobs or going any further with my WHM for now and I dont have the money now for even 10 levels of ranger.

Ninja is bad. Real bad. You will need help from higher levels, or get a really talented party of 30s. I had Scar helping me, and I still almost got killed during the fight. You MIGHT want to use Thief if you get help, and click on the ???, then Perfect Dodge. Paladin is the hardest though, IMO. It realistically takes more hten a party of 30s.

Skill capped my fishing at level 10...I don't want to go back to Selbina! *cries* So I'm fishing the crap out of Rabao until I have enough money to buy all my spells to 40, I got Dispel, and Stoneskin, but from what I hear, Phalanx can wait so I'll just hold off on that. Oh and I need pants, boots, and a shield...any donations are appreciated. ^^;;;

good time to ask that I was just about to post about a bot...
I just found out that a friend of mine (our linkshell leader) is using a fishing bot >_<
I noticed one time a few days ago that he was on invisible mode and didnt have the linkpearl equiped after I did a /sea all <name>
He was in Rabao.. for the whole day.. no matter what time I checked while I was on he was in Rabao and this went on for a few days. A few hours ago I decided to go to rabao because I was curious about him and I also wanted to see what the place was like ^^
I found him fishing there.. I waved, poked and sent him tells while I was standing right next to him but he never even did anything.. just kept on fishing ><
It really sucks to find out someone you thought was really good at the game cheated to get money for raise 2, light staff etc.... <_<

Yeesh, Fishing Bots.. On my server there are literaly 17 Fishing Bots with the Prefix Eadji~... all Galakans... Plus /Lu Shangs Rod/ On every single one. I've called the GM Several times but to no avail. >_<

You think that's bad? Current conspiracy theory abound is that there are parties of Dragoons with one WHM. Said party will exp on monsters that drop good loot. If you send one a tell, you'll get a "..." response. They have no regard to the exp per se. They only get it to be able to kill anything. These parties will have similar names, and the dragoons will have different subs, for more effectiveness. If I were a BST, I'd target them, and just start MPKing. Rediculous, these bots are.
And the ones that camp Argus, for the Peacock Charm.

fishing bot? hell, I wouldn't mind having one of those.... it'd saving me a crap load of time, and less energy. too bad from what I just got from all that, they're kinda illegal-ish in the game, not to mention I have no idea how to make one....

I think I have found something that has pissed me off more then getting the stupid keys for Kazham. It would have to be getting the Ruby to unlock the Summoner job. I have spent hours trying to get this dumb thing, in the dunes, and on that one pinnesella. Is there a better place to get the drop? I dont have a lvl15 thief sub, but talking to people that have, doesnt seem to greatly increase the drop rate. Is there a better place to get this drop?

I've been trying in Dangruf Wadi because the leeches are a lot weaker there, being a white mage it still takes several shots to kill them ><
I cant even kill the ones in the dunes or bubumiru, maybe when I get to level 31 instead and get the next hammer.

I've never tried camping any NM's. With my luck it would never work out for me, plus I don't like the idea of potentialy wasting hours and hours of time and getting nothing but frustration in return. And since I don't anywhere near the funds to afford the stuff they drop at the AH, I just don't get to have any of it.

This morning I got a PM from another friend after seeing the pic I posted saying that he also knows that this person uses a fishing bot because he caught him in Rabao a few weeks ago. He told me that his excuse for botting was that he works too much now and doesnt have time to farm... what a poor excuse <_<
If this has been going on for weeks then that IS how he paid for his light staff, dark staff, erase, raise 2 etc... and he was BRAGGING about how he saved up the money after he bought them >_<

I soloed 201 leeches in Dangruf Wadi (yes I counted) and never got a ruby to drop there :'(. I then tried Jugner Forest for around 20 leeches but it took too long for each fight since I had to blink/stoneskin, nuke, rest and repeat. I ended up going with some LS friends to Buburimu Peninsula for my ruby. Took about an hour and a half and we got 2 drops. My only suggestion would be to keep trying as it is a pain to get regardless if you have TH or not (had 2 people with THF subbed for treasure hunter when I got mine).
Square Enix doesn't care about bots, or at least that's the impression I get from them. There was a post on another forum I frequent concerning a bot party on my server that was "supposedly" taken care of by a GM. A couple of days later they show up again so they probably only received a temporary suspension. They're still on and I've seen them running around. I've also heard of the DRG and WHM combo usually farming Upper Delkfutt's Tower but I don't go there often and can't verify if any are on my server. Either way I won't go out of my way to hunt down bots but if I notice an obvious one I will report it. Kind of sad that even then either nothing will be done or there will only be a temporary suspension followed by more botting.

I hit lvl 29 tonight. I could have hit 30, in fact I'm 1.6K exp tnl, but some idiots zoned gobs right into parties fighting Mandragora. I saw a guy actually run past the tunnel that leads to the zone (this is in Yhoator) and into my party, which was fighting at the time. There were 13-17 bodies on the main path and in the tunnel, the goblins just kept aggroing people. A WHM that was raising people was aggroed and killed. It was funny, but would have been funnier had I not been one of the first people dropped. I just wonder where peoples common sense is sometimes. When they know they're not gonna make it, why endanger others?
Also, if anyone knows, what sub jobs do those Dragoon bots use? I'm just wondering. I find the idea of a troupe of mindless Dragoons, each with their own unique sub job, walking around Delkfutt's Tower amusing. I'd figure WAR, SAM, and THF would be three of the sub jobs. MNK would also make sense. But I can't think of another job that would be compatible with the DRG job class.

Isn't that why you have to pay a monthly fee....you know to keep bots out of the game, and to make sure all the servers are running right?
I pay nearly 15 dollars, and spend several hours, MANUALLY fishing Lake Rabao, I see bots all around it, cause if they aren't bots, they are very rude people. If SE would just take care of the botting it would be much better, I don't mind the mules because I understand having to do that, but botting i just laziness.

I started leveling up ranger today and I like it SO much more than I thought I would, I've always been interested in trying it out but I never thought it would be this fun ^^
I think I'm going to stick with ranger for now but I need to unlock ninja for rangers sub soon... I have 9 zinc ore sitting in my mog house. I heard that you need to do the quest 30 times to get enough norg fame which is only 120 zinc ores. I have enough for 2 quests so if I keep buying the ore for 100 - 200 gil I should have enough fame pretty soon.
I'm also looking for a new linkshell now that I found out that there are MORE members in my current one than just the leader that are using fishing bots <_< I really dont like being in a linkshell with members that are using bots to get money...

I got the BRD quest today. Currenty in Windurst, land of the Taru who jump on my legs! >.<; I'm currently fishing there because I didn't realize for me to buy spells for myself to lvl 40 would leave me flat broke, only ones I don't have though are Barvirus, Phalanx, and Ice Spikes. Hopefully, with all I could afford, which is the little worms, I can fish up some moat carp in Windurst Woods and have a good bit of gil again. ^-^;

I finished all 30 zinc ore quests and then decided to try to get some help in Koroloka Tunnel with killing the leeches. I got a lvl 30 RDM who also wanted to kill them and then after around 5 mins I did another shout and a level 66 DRK offered to help! ^_^ And while we were in the tunnel I had directions on which way to go but a level 62 THF also offered to help and showed us the way to the '???' spot to kill the leeches and get the item.
I was able to get in to the sea serpent grotto easily enough on chocobo from the jungle and then as soon as I entered the place there were 2 level 32 RDMs who offered to show me the way to Norg ^^
I finished off the main part of the Ninja quest and then did the quests for two of the ninja scrolls. I was just about finished them and was close to norg and sneak wore off <_< I was attacked by a crab and 2 skeletons and died a few steps away from entering norg. Luckily a WHM raised me within a few minutes though because there was NO way I was going all the way back to my HP in Jeuno and going back to Norg just to talk to a single NPC 1 time and then leave. I now have a scroll of Tonko: Ichi and Utsusemi: Ichi sitting in my mod safe waiting to be used ^^

Got my WHM to 44 finally. Haste II is a very nice spell. It keeps me less busy casting cures and have more MP to cast some banishes and raise my lagging divine skill;).
My LS static wants to start all our AF1 quests and get rank 5. Hopefully I'll have my new hammer and airship pass soon. I started the quest for AF1 the second I hit 40 so I've been waiting a while for it. I also already have one of the Beadeaux items for the rank 4 mission from killing Gho'Bu Gascon when I went with a 48WAR friend to help out an LS member doing Bastok mission 3-1.
Today I tried to help an LS friend get some elshimo marble for the teleport-yhoat quest. 4 of us spent the better part of 6 hours slaughtering lizards with not a single drop. Definitely frustrating to say the least. At least I got to level up my club skills some and have it at 96 now (4 more till I get a new WS:P).
I haven't done the Teleport-Vahzl quest yet but I can only hope I don't have to spend 6+ hours in Fei'Yin killing shadows and then subsequently looking for the Fei'Yin chest. I've only been there once (for the warp II quest which consisted of me using sneak/invis the whole way) and from the looks of it, I don't want to stay in that place a minute more than I have to.

Dont start cooking unless you have enough money to get to the higher levels because otherwise it will just cost you money.

OMG! I was in South Gustaberg today and Leaping Lizzy spawned right infront of me!! I attacked it but lost because I was only level 8 Ninja. I didnt lose exp though because I just used my 2 hour...
This is the FIRST time in a LONG time that I've been any other job besides my level 30 WHM and Leaping Lizzy spawns the one time I cant even beat it :crybaby:

I had the BEST party ever today and it was in the dunes ^^
I got from level 9 - 10 soloing but then I headed straight to Valkurm after getting my second weapon and had some really slow parties.. got no more than 300exp. But then a couple of hours later I got in to one really good party and gained 3 levels in only a couple of hours :D I'm now a level 13 ninja ^^ Already time to go back to Bastok and upgrade my gear :P

Just to make sure... you DO have Utsusemi, right? The last few times I went through the dunes, I kept inviting Nins as tanks... only to learn they were NIN/THF. I know I wanted to be one, but that was without the understanding that SA is really gimped as a subbed ability. I mean, you can't do DD with it if it's just a normal Critical hit.... Anyway, my point is, I got a nasty shock each time, and it kind of ticked off the other people I'd invited to make a party. So don't do it. Not to be offensive, just.. making sure, ya know? Oh, just FYI, you can use Shinobi-Gatana until level 21.

As long as you blink tank when necessary. I do suggest you try and get out of it if the group is set up right. Early on, you do okay as a DD. Oh, you're going as a main Ninja, right? A good quest for you to do is a Bastokan one for an uber-spiff Katana called Fukuro. Good damage for its level (27), good delay, +1 STR, +1 AGI. To get the quest, go to the Bastokan Metalworks, and speak to Romaulde. Keep in mind, you must speak to him as a Ninja. Then, go talk to Ayame. The quest isn't hard from there, but the "tough" part is popping the Palsborough Mines chest. Keep in mind, you just need the quest logged when you pop the chest. You can do it as whatever job you want, however you want. I just got the Key, because I was trying to get the Gustaberg Garrison item anyway. Fukuro fetches a fair sum, but since you're a Main Ninja, I suggest you keep it. I imagine it'd make a good off-hand for a while. Mind, it's not rare, so you can buy another and dual wield it if you so wish.

Congrats Binary.
I finally got my AF1 yesterday. Ended up going in the fight against Marchelute with 8 people and had to do it twice. It was fun though. First fight was handled quite easily and I barely used any MP. Second fight I think we pissed him off too much so he used dimensional death over 10 times>_<. Had to constantly use Cure IIIs and drink a yagudo drink for that fight. Luckily nobody died and I'm now the proud owner of a Blessed Hammer. Turned out to be a big AF1 day on my LS. Aside from mine we ended up also getting PLD, SAM, and SMN AF1.
After getting magicite from Davoi and Beadeaux, I managed to solo Castle Oztroja to complete my rank 5. Now I can finally ride those airships^_^. I still have to go back and help my LS friends go through that castle. That's going to be a hell of a trip but I'm looking forward to it.
Just a few more levels to genkai 1...

stopped lvling my mnk, and sold most the equipment I had for it, now gone back to my war and working on getting that to 30... actually currently debating if I really want to switch to an advanced job or just stick with war, cuz I enjoy playing as war a lot ^_^
also worked on Woodworkiing for a couple days (hours more like) and got to lvl 5 or so I think.. just wish the lumber I have in my bazaar would sell seriously need the money lol... that, and whenever I go logging, I hope to get at least one elm log from
Ghelsba... they're gold.

Qufim is the first zone that starts to test the puller, as it has the undead, and the prime targets are sound detect/linking, so care must be taken. The next zone, Kaz, is a bit of respite, as the only aggroers are sight aggro, and in wide spaces like Yuhtunga, sight aggro is rediculously easy to avoid. Yhoator has tighter spaces, but isn't that bad, as the mandies hang out in areas that the gobs don't, mostly. After that, is Garlaige Citadel, where there are sound detect/linking, and sight aggros, in smaller spaces, with the possibility of falling down holes.

In other news, I decided that I will NOT level without the best/near best for my level, so I'm out to raise up 800k. about 600k is for the Boots/Hairpin, then another 100 for Deft Rings. The other 100 comes from Brigandine, Bone Knife +1, and a few other minor things that now escape me, but that I'm sure will occur to me when I log back on. Honestly, I'd camp the Emperor and Leaping Lizzy if they weren't so heavily Bot Camped.

i've camped them both personally numerous times...
so far i've gotten 2 boots and 3 hairpins...
you just gotta be quick with w/s + flee + range/voke/dart/etc.
since those 2 both have large area spawns...
i think a 4 square radius for both of them...
the only ones that are bot camped are ones that spawn in smaller areas...
for example:

hoo mjoo
hee mjee or whatever *kote*
stroper chyme
spook
etc.
anyone else excited with the announcement of bahamut?

If you want Lizzy to spawn anytime in the next 24 hours, Lizards have to be killed. Lots of lizards. Any camper SHOULD know that. I'd not believe it meself if not for the time I saw lizzy spawn 10 minutes after the last kill. And although Lizzy has a wide spawn range, it can be almost entirely surveyed from one spot. 2 bots = win.
And on a related, joking note, I hate you. Camping the drops for cash. Shame shame.

That will rock, I want bahumut as a summons (that would be bad ***, summoning bahumut to kick ***). I am only a lvl 6 smnr, but I will keep working at it, until I can get the mighty bahumut. My current lvls are 29 warr (deleveled during smn quest), 17Wht, 15pld, 13drk, 12Thf, 6 Smn, 6 Blk, 1 Ranger (well will be one, when I go back to windy to complete the quest). I am currently switching between lvling my Pld, and my Smn. Once I get my Smn, to like 13 or so, I am going to lvl my wht to 25 so I can get raise. Before that I may (probably should) try and lvl my thief to 15, because my gill supply is pretty meager, and I am trying to maintain my supply of stacks of fire crystals on my mule (currently at about 6 stacks) because I want to resume my smithing craft, currently somewhere between 2 and 3). Anyone got a good linkshell on Titan I can join, I am kind of disapointed in my current one.

I disappeared for awhile. Wee. Life has it's low points sometimes. But anyway.
Kanzen is 63, where he's been waiting for awhile. I want to xp ninja, but then I don't. It's getting more and more expensive as the tnl grows, my my money reserves are running out. Farming on ninja is generally a terrible idea unless I fight things much lower than me (tigers are okay I can farm a full stack, not using utsu at all, and not be more then 40% down on hp. I was also feeling a bit thiefy when I came back, so I decided to level my original mule. Miyuki is currently a 38thf/war with 30 war and 24 nin supports. I only plan on hitting 60, as I mainly want Miyuki to be sexy in thief AF and make money. I was originally planning on leveling ranger for awhile, so I took the time to level ninja. I'm glad I did it anyway, as it will have uses in the future but ninja sub for thf is extremely over-rated and rather gimp for the xp grind. ;p

Kanzen switches his gear out a lot. I keep myself open for skillchains, but when I'm not in one, I keep myself open given a situation. High evade mobs I'll usually mainhand sword and just go for a 300% Spirits Within (guaranteed 550 damage), otherwise I'll just Blade: Jin at 100%. For Miyuki, I actually use Acid Bolts, but they don't even have acid bolts listed as available to thief, so I put Bloody up instead (which by the way are hardcore, and if you ever play a job that can use xbow, I recommend them to you. Up to 100 point drains, which deal the drain damage on top of the bolt's damage, and have a near 100% proc rate). Using RSE Boots because they cost me 1000G as opposed to ~300,000G for Leaping Boots. The dex would be nice, but not nice enough to waste a few days getting 300,000G when I'm leveling thf for the explicit purpose of making such money in a more timely fashion than I could on ninja in the first place. Strike Shield in my inventory waiting for me to hit 40 (6def 6atk). I'd buy a Viking Shield at 45, but again, 800,000G for 6 more attack for only 15 levels seems like waste of resources. Regardless, I'd say my thief is very well off until 60, better than most, and chances are the ones that do have leaping boots are subbing ninja. ;p
Oh, and for the record. I hightly doubt Bahamut will be a summon. He's larger than any of the Gods in Sky. The screenshot on the official site has him screaming, paraphrased "VANA'DIEL! THE WURMKING HAS RETURNED. I WILL BRING THIS WORLD TO IT'S END." I seriously doubt a dragon larger than most mobs in the game would scream about destroying the very base of existance and then say "Oh. Crap. You beat me. WELL I GUESS I WILL JOIN YOU." Bahamut seems to be the new end game HNM that will have utterly INSANE drops-- if even. He may very well just be a storyline encounter like Shadow Lord was.

Er, Michael, just a question: How can you tell he's bigger then the 4 gods? I didn't see anything to scale against him.
I doubt he's a summon too, simply because I don't see how you'd fit him in dungeons and whatnot.

He perches on a freaking airship, and still looks like he's larger than the airship. ;p The gods are fairly big, but they're all rehashed mobs (lazy POL bastards). Well, except for Genbu, he's rehashed, but you don't really see many turtle mobs in the game anyway. Seiryuu=typical dragon Suzaku=typical peryton type mob Byakko = tiger Kirin = Manticore.
I'd say King Behemoth is the only size competition it looks like he has. King Behemoth is just massive.

Hm. Thf is slowing down because I'm always having to help my friends with their AF since we're all working on new jobs right now. Two of them went brd and war together, they're in their mid 50s. One went ranger, just hit 50 tonight so we're grinding his keys on top of the other two. I'm glad I'm a thf so when I get up to 50 I can do all of this on my own except for AF2/3. Sucks being the only tank in your linkshell though, haha.

and I really want to hurry up through the story... I kinda wanted to be through everything in this before the expansion came out so I didn't have even MORE to do, but it looks like that's definately not going to happen unless I do some hardcore playing (as in not go to work for a few days and get a mega stash of Red Bull or something... and then I gotta find a reliable way to get people to pt with me, or get a static pt or something).
Currently a lvl 23 War/mnk (mnk is lvl 12... crud, I'll have to lvl THAT more soon too... ). At 30 I'm going to do PAL quest and switch to that for a looooooong time.... I see now why people can waste a good portion of their life on games like these :|

Grinding is basically sitting down in a good exp party for a long time fighting and fighting for exp.
As to NMs.... I can understand camping them for cash, but it's hard to get rich from it. It's nice when you get it though. I'll be camping Jack after I start playing with the Yagudo in Castle Oz. As to now, I have very important dates with Lizzy and the Emperor. We'll be getting acquainted this week.
Edit: Yeah, I wish that at LEAST the Gods were different mobs.... Not that I really know what any of those mobs is capable of ANYWAY. I don't normally fight Tigers, and the only dragon I fought was the Rank 3 one... and somehow, I think Seiryuu is the same kind as Guivre, not the ugly Rank 3 ones.

wow...your server its cheap...
last time i checked on our server it goes for around 1 mil...
since the drop rate on it is incredibly low its one of those nm's you dont usually camp...
i think its like a 1% or something drop rate...

and it only increases on full moons i believe...
i've heard of ppl going 100+ kills no drop...

No, I'd have to guess your server is insanely expensive. And there IS an upside to Jack. ***** though he is about drops, he spawns exactly one day after he last despawned completely. So at least you have an exact time you can go AFK if you saw his death.

Well, grinding changes definition from person to person. I tend to associate grinding with doing something you don't enjoy just to get it done. Like leveling through to like 45, because 90% of the leveling locations before then are just horribly horribly annoying/boring, and there's more fun beyond them. Valkurm, Qufim, Jungles, Garliage, Nest... all are grinds. The alternatives are so much more fun, but NA aren't adventurous enough yet, heh. I hate doing the AF key thing but the jobs we're doing them for (bard, war, ranger) have important AF that most will wear at some point or another. Ranger pretty much lasts in it's entirety until War gear. Well that and we like to play other jobs too and level them up, We're all on our third set of AF right now. If you don't complete one set of AF quests, you can't start them for another job. So basically, even if it's for something we won't use, we have to get it. =/

Right now, nothing because I'm skilling up, and the fish you have to get to skill up at this point are just awful at selling but when I get back to normal fishing, in a day I can make anywhere from 10-50k

I'm just going to go back to killing quickly for drops that aren't worth much, but that I get uber quick. And yes, I do mean on friggin' Bees, Gobs, and Bats. I'm actually going to turn in the Bat Wings on my main and my mule. I'll be able to do the nicer quests, like at least Drain, on my mule too. Hopefully, Tele-Holla.
Micheal: Are the AF quests interesting enough in their own right, equipment excepted? I rather liked my AF1, because I at least got to learn SOMETHING about the game's setting, specifically, it's past.

AF reveals stuff about the different races/mythology. ^^ My friend is recording the Ranger AF cutscenes for me (lots of stuff about the Mithra, obviously), and I'm telling him how the Bard AF goes. Bard AF quests were spoiled for me, already, though. XD They just cover angsty bards and some San d'Oria royal history.

As I haven't levelled since I got my AF1, I can only tell you that my AF1 covers the Tenshodo's predecesor's, a gang who's name escapes me, but I watch the cutscene whenever I'm in Jeuno.
Edit: It also gives you an idea just how many high-profile NPC Thieves there are. That room is PACKED.

I guess the AF quests are interesting. I don't know, they don't really develop much of anything I care about. Ninja is about some random guy you never meet, and you deal with his family. Dragoon is about "the last dragoon" basically. Woo. Missions are much better for story. =p

I really need to find somewhere to buy Chains of Promothia.. I cant find any stores selling PC games that will ship overseas besides DVDboxoffice and the last game I ordered from them took a month to arrive. I'm hoping that after the game is actually released it will appear on more sites because all I can find now is pre-orders for it on sites that dont ship out of the country..
FFXI is being released in Europe and Australia this month aswell ^^ I'd buy the expansion pack here but its going to be released in a 3-pack with both expansions like how the US version was packaged with the first one..
Square still found a way to screw PAL gamers by not giving us a PS2 release here <_< but with how badly they convert other games it wouldnt run well together with the NTSC version because the PAL games run at a slower speed...

/SMN is fine if you're willing to accept that in an emergency you can't toss out a cure to save the tank. BLMs can and will be called on to do so in an emergency. But you do get a deeper MP pool, and Auto-Refresh at BLM 60.

Its got a fun Final Fantasy feel to it. There is constantly things to do in the game, so you really never run out of things to do, and its got enough of a story to that if you get bored just killing stuff you can look more into the story. The downside I see to the game is that there are certain things you do, or want to do, such as aquire certain jobs, that are just rediculously hard to do (like kill 100's of a certain type of enemy to get one certain item). A lot of time is just wasted running around getting from one place to another, and then standing around and trying to get in a party, because you have to be a pretty high lvl player to get much of anything done solo, other then some basic missions. Overall its very much a party based rpg with a general final fantasy type theme to it so you meet a lot of people. The strong points to it seem to be its reliance on teamwork to get things done, and the low points being that it takes a long time to get anything done (spending just a few hours a week, wont get a lot done)

Subbing smn is one of those things that people looked at before we knew much about how the game played out. The MP gain isn't really that imporant (honestly, in a group, you shouldn't be using that much mp, that quickly. And there isn't that much mp to be gained anyway). Generic group utility outweighs a hardon for bigger numbers. This game is very very group oriented-- being successful means being the best that you can be for those around you.
That's a "professional" opinion, which is about all you'll get out of me, given how freaking annoyingly exact this game becomes if you want to get things done at a remotely decent rate.
Thank god EQ2 is getting closer and closer. ;p

Before 65 I would agree that the only sub is a warrior sub. However, Spinning Slash opens entirely new doors. I am playing thief now, and I will admit it is very depressing that other jobs replace thief after 60. Sadly, Shark Bite just isn't that strong, and there's little reason why a thief should give up Dancing Edge for Shark Bite. Spinning Slash is literally insane. Level 3 skillchains are literally insane. You don't really need the greater hate control of the thief when the dark knight pulls off a 1000 point Spinning Slash resulting in a 1700 point Light chain. Note that the most common exp grind mobs at like 68+ = bones. I'm not too interested in getting that high, so lame because you need like 43k to hit 75, but the entire time you're grinding for less than 150xp per kill, even on chains. =/

Got my warrior from 10 - 17 in only 2 parties over the past 2 days, fastest I've ever leveled, going to try to get to level 20 tomorow.
Right now I'm trying to get to level 33. When warrior gets to 20 I'll be going WAR/NIN and since my ninja is only at 16 I cant get past level 33 without an underleveled sub so I'll need to go back and level that up aswell soon.

war/nin and nin/war are two completely different paths, heh. I think you'll need to sit down and think about what you prefer doing, tanking or meleeing. While war/nin can tank, they are the worst at if, if you even want to consider them a "tank." war/nin leave the tanking up to paladins and ninja, while they break out the axe/great axe. Well, I guess a war/nin could tank at 74, but there are still reasons to take a nin/war over war/nin even at 74.
Warrior from 1-75 is probably the most stable damage output in the game. Through out all the levels they have very very high damage output. It might not be as much as a drk at some points (and war can't learn spinning slash =/) but it's very stable. On top of that they are more flexible, usually taking three weaponskills all the way (great axe, axe, sword). It's hot seeing a warrior dish out ~500 damage rampages then break out the great axe and pull off ~800 damage raging rushes. Either way though, Warriors aren't known for their tanking skills after Lv37 (ninja utsu2, paladin flash). Warriors are excellent for war/thf though. War can get away with subbing any of the "oddball" subs to the heavy melees. A sam, drg, or drk loses their double attack, assisting provoke, berserk, defender, etc if they try to sub thf. Anything a warrior subs, they simply gain skills to aid in damage. <3 warrior.
Ninja is probably the most demanding and difficult of the jobs. You have to be very attentive and on your toes at every moment while in a pt. It takes a lot to maintain shadows, debuffs, self buffs (zerk when shadows are okay, defender when shadows drop), tp reports and skillchains, all while keeping the hate focused on you. The life of a main ninja can be summed up by: 1. 2. 3. 4. - 1. 2. 3. 4. - 1. 2. 3. - 1. 2. 3. 4. That's pretty much all you'll be doing for hours at a time, counting to 3 and 4 over and over again. It's worth it though, everyone loves them a skilled ninja.

I dont think I should even try to decide which one I'll be making my main job knowing how much I change my mind about these things :lol:
I'm just going to keep leveling up warrior for now, even if I decide after I get the job to around level 30 that I dont like it then atleast I'll have a high leveled sub for a lot of other melee jobs.
Same with my WHM, its at level 30 now and I dont know if I'll go much further with it but atleast now if I decide on going BLM, RDM, BRD, BST or SMN then I can get them all the way to level 60 without worrying about leveling my sub.

Anyway. Michael, I <3 Warrior as well... it's just sad that half the people that play the game are war's or like them paladins and other jobs more than us. (I have a lvl 26 War) Speaking of Warriors and good subs, would a War/pld make a decent comb? or would it just make entirely more sense to do Pld/war?
And, just for the sake of saying, after reading what you just said about a nin/war... there's no way I'll ever go that route haha ^^;;

war/pld is generally a terrible idea. After advanced jobs, warriors become damage dealers like I said above. They aren't there to tank, absorb damage, etc. They're there to utterly destroy things.
Warrior does very well until 30 with a monk sub. This gives them general tank-ability, some extra hate with boost, as well as counter (countering a mandragora with a great axe for 90 damage to the face is so much fun). 24-30 Ninja is also and option for general tankability in the same right. 30-37, warriors are still sort of "meh" tanks. You might take them just because, but a pld and a nin will outperform them overall. Subbing THF at this point is a lot of fun. Given the Warrior's Mighty Strikes ability isn't a very great panic ability, I love just hitting it randomly before a skillchain. So much fun popping out a sneak attack mighty strikes sturmwind, when the first hit gets a double attack in. Warrior dominating mobs with a near 500 point weaponskill at level 30. Gwaha.
Anyway, warrior should definitely keep ninja leveled and available for sub as well. war/nin is the most solid way to go, at all levels over 24, regardless of the weapon you're using at the time. But it's nice to have thief and samurai leveled as well. They offer some free options. I like the axe(main) sword(offhand) combo, switching between that and great axe. Sword is a very important skill to have leveled if you enjoy the idea of higher level NM and events. Spirits Within hits, does damage equal to half your current life total at 300%. It's one of the most reliable ways to knock life off of encounters.

Are Giants less camped? You could try for the black market quest drops, but I don't even know if that's repeatable. Also, the Kurayami, Hojo, and Jubaku quests are good.

Yeargh. I've turned in 36 Zinc, And 36 Yagudo Necklaces, The Rice Ball price is down to 163G.. Is there a quest I can accept at that fame? Or Back to mass Farming Yagudos?
I did the zinc ore quest 30 times which is 120 ores that you need to turn in. That gave me enough fame for both Tonko and Utsusemi.

A few days ago I was reading the latest EGM and I came across a letter to the editor about the gay marriage ban in FFXI. I thought the contributor had an interesting point, so I hit the message boards to see if the issue was being discussed at all. I was intrigued by one post organizing a march to protest the ban, not only because it discussed the issue in a more serious tone, but also because it suggested a means for addressing the issue within the game world itself. I was also interested by this thread, because the discussion extends to the issue itself, and not just its presence within the game.
Long story short, we at The Daily Show are interested in producing a field piece on this issue. The piece would be a three-to-four minute segment in which one of our correspondents interviews FFXI players and developers, as well as other representatives of the industry. First, though, we need to set up interviews with players representing both sides of this issue. So my question to you is this: Do any of you take a side on this issue (regarding the game), and if so, are you willing to speak with us for the piece? Heh, farming northern furs was a nice suggestion, but definitely won't work. Giants are rarely camped, but the drop rate of fur is terrible. When I get really really bored of tigers I go farm giants/dolls in Delkfutt's, I rarely leave with more than one fur after a couple hours. Given I only have TH1, and prefer fighting dolls over the giants, but still. On top of all this, furs aren't stackable, can get you 2000G on AH, and you would have to run all the way to Norg just to hand them in. While repeatable, it's not worth the effort at all.
And regarding the Daily Show marriage ban thing, I kinda doubt a show like The Daily Show would want to do a segment on FFXI refusing gay marriages, but I guess stranger things have happened. Regardless though, the game is run by horribly retarded japanese people (POL = worst MMORPG company I have ever delt with, period), so I don't really see much hope in an international gay rights movement over a video game.

I did my first Garrison today ^^
We did 5 of them in West Ronfaure, I got a Dragon Chronicles and Garrison Gloves out of it. I also joined a new linkshell ^^
I've never seen so much lag before, I thought Valkurm and Kazham were bad but it was nothing compared to this.

Garrisons are kinda fun. I only did them when Mannequins were first added to the game though.. we went with only 6 random people to the level 20, and after second wave didn't really care what happened. No one ever died, but we lost all our npcs by the third wave every time. We got the mannequin parts never the less. =p
We just camped Lumber Jack, one of the hnm type things. Was interesting, he has a placeholder hnm, and as soon as you kill that, then he spawns. Anyway, it's a beetle that's pretty much blm + drk main jobs, he likes to cast Stonega IV, which we thought was going to suck with a ninja tanking, but he could barely even hit me as is. Blind + Paralyze and I probably evade tanked 60-70% of the fights, he couldn't even get my shadows down. Haha, half way through the fight the beetle uses blood weapon. I couldn't help but laugh as he tried to blood weapon life drain through my shadows. Crap for drops though. =/ Our LS needs more thief, and it can't be me since there's one paladin and one ninja. We're both needed for everything we do.

No, missions aren't related to your fame.
We got Roc last night too, so Kanzen is now running around with the title Roc Star. Got the Healing Staff drop, which is neat, but not really worth the 2-4 million it sells for, so it never sells. The AH actually isn't even complete, only 9 entries of possible 10. We had a PLD tank for Roc, but before the bird used Benediction, the PLD had gone linkdead... enter ninja tank to save the day. Man, the new patch is going to suck for ninja tanking stuff like that. Still, was fun. We're at LJ again, because my friend wants the Bloodsword drop for his Warrior.

Lumber Jack run 3 = failure. Have to try again tomorrow. Stingy little beetle does not want to drop his Bloodsword. Simurgh run was failed too, no drops. =/
xp'd ninja last night and hit 64, time to grind on into 66 to get Blade: Ten.

I'm really having a lot of fun with warrior. I finally got it to level 20 today after to many bad parties from 17-20.
I changed my sub to ninja and now I have dual wield battleaxes and I bought a neckchopper for 45k. I've never actually had over 40k on me at once until today after my garrison gloves sold and I just bought a single weapon worth more than all that.

Boo 2 axes, unless one has a bonus (darksteel mainhand, viking offhand, for instance). You're better keeping sword leveled, as your primary offhand weapon. Swords generally have better bonuses, and nicer incarnations than axes. There's a +15 attack sword that's really hardcore when you're not offhanding a viking(10accuracy), and it also gives you more options on what to do with the less thought out party formations.
Though nice work on the Neckchopper, very very nice weapon, though you ultimately have to make a decision between 5accuracy vs. more damage. By 30 you should ditch it, but it's a hard choice at 25 with the Plantbane, haha.

Oh boy, I can't wait till I'm lvl 30 and go get pld... then I'm going to have to carry a sword, sheild, great sword, and great axe.... whee... the great sword would be for when not tanking with the pld which be when... never?
Oh, and if PLD is a bad idea for a sub for my WAR what should I sub for higher lvls? my current sub is mnk, but it's under-developed...

I have used wht for subbing my warr, even in parties it does well. Gives you some healing and enfeebling capabilities. Doesn't help your def though, but having divine seal and cure 2 certainly is nice. I would just stop lvling your warr and lvl pld, thats my plan.

I normally stay out of this, but WAR/WHM is a terrible, terrible decision, and the only reason I can see it without bursting a blood vessel is that I'm sure these people are just practicing for being a Paladin, and I must admit, I'd rather they have some practice with it before they get to the dunes.
Out of curiousity in times past, I asked the Allakhazam WARs just how far WARs can tank, and according to them, they run into a rough spot from 45ish till they have some of their AF with it's +Enmity gear. That's when they can hold hate again. I never asked about subs though, although logically MNK makes sense, but then, what place does Logic have in FFXI?

How much does monk help your warr, I only took my mnk to 5, is it really that much of a help as a sub job? Once I get my thief to 15, I plan for it to be the sub as I plan on Pld being my main job, and have no current plans for warr beyond 30.

War subs depend on your role in the party.
If you're the tank, then most definitely ninja. Yes, warrior have plenty of +enmity on their AF, but you lose hate for taking damage. Monk can work, but you'll have more of a task of holding hate on your hands.
If you're a damage dealer, then pretty much any damaging sub can work. Ninja for dual wield rampage (potential for extra hits). Thief for sneak/trick (assist your tank, double damage of first swing). Samurai for anytime skillchain. Warrior is the only job I can understand subbing samurai to, because, well, the other jobs have to choose between warrior and samurai, when the warrior is already a warrior. I grouped with a war/sam on ninja the other day at 64. It was incredible. PT was nin/war, war/sam, rng/nin, rdm/blm, blm/whm, brd/whm. Rangers get TP really fast regardless, and the warrior was AWLAYS ready to sc, so every single fight we did a Raging Rush > Sidewinder : Fragmentation chain. Raging Rush did up to 1068 dmg. Sidewinder normally did over 1000 damage, making an awesome frag damage. The BLM could burst for up to 1100 damage, so needless to say, around 70% of each fight was free...unless sidewinder missed. >< But then I came to try and save the day with a 525dmg Spirits Within. =p
Regarding the updates; I'm glad to see they didn't really nerf main ninja, only sub ninja. I mean, sure it sucks for the sub ninjas, but man, that's my main job. I don't think I could take being bent over and served TWICE in this game. First thing I did after spending 5 hours trying to download the patch (way to put a ****ing download cap on a mmorpg patch, POL. God I can't wait to get away from the sheer retardation of your company in November) was check the Gobbiebag V quest (50 still isn't enough for ninja ; ;), which apparently wanted items you can't really get yet since they're mobs of CoP areas. After that I stood in my moghouse for a minute, and realised after the fustration of trying to download the patch for five hours, I would rather put a gun in my mouth, and opted to go watch tv. Then they do emergency patch to fix what yesterday screwed up, yay for another 9 hour patch, haha. It's expected given expansion release, and with so much they added. But man, I just got back into ninja full swing and I can't do anything about it. =/

I guess I got lucky, I only spent about 2-3 hrs trying to download the patch. I did get some work done, I took a chocabo to Valkurum to buy raise. I bought an extra and sold it to someone in Jueno (would have sold it on AH for an exsorbant price, but I didnt have enough gill left for the AH fee to sell it). I almost got my white mage to 25 then its off to Davoi for the first part of the Rank 5 magicite mission

I take it that this refers to the line "Copy Images lost will depend on the caster's Ninjutsu skill level", simply because that was the only thing I saw that directly targetted a lower level Ninja caster then a higher level one.
Seeing these changes makes me wish I could still play ; ;
I haven't exped in a long time, but it'd be nice to see that my EF runs would do something for me besides give me CP. But... that's just me.
Edit: Hm... if I manage to play again, I'll need to change my equipment macros... So far I've only been swapping out Rings and Earrings, and that looks like the only stuff with a name change ^_^

It drive me nuts how much I've not even come close to doing in this game.
I also found out the strategy guide is rather incomplete, considering it only covers missons to rank 5, nor have I seen anything about the quests you need to do to get some weapon skills.... that really annoys me, I payed and extra $20 for the damn thing, I'd like to have all the info, like a normal guide. and their reson for not having all that info? "In order to preserve the secrecy of this unfolding world" bull crap. if they wanted to preserve the secrecy of this world, the guide would never have been published.
sorry for the lame rant froma guide user, but I also just found out last night that my SC chart is incomplete, as I was doing a skillchain that was not on my chart >_< things really annoy me... regardless, I love the game /sigh
Oh, and I've decided I'm not going to bother with any advanced jobs for a while. I don't feel like becoming a PLD anymore, so I'm just going to continuallyt lvl WAR and MNK, and the only reason I lvl MNK is, of course, for my sub.

Yeah, more of a chance for a main ninja to save shadows. It's nice though, it now specifically tells you how many shadows are taken off with a hit. Makes counting a little easier for certain mob skills and ranged attacks. Pre-patch you couldn't tell if they literally missed you (evade) or if they missed you and hit a shadow. Definitely some perks thrown in with the slight nerf.
Still, the biggest hit is definitely high level Weapon camping. Damage AOE, the one specifically mentioned in the patch notes (haha ironic), stuns. Previously keeping utsu saved everyone from this and there was little problem-- now.. rangers and thieves and warriors are probably going to have all 3 shadows erased and still take some of the damage + stun given minimal skill.

But short of much higher level exp mobs (Always a possibility), wouldn't that change be useless, as it's specifically for 60+s?

Ano ne,I have a question I think you can answer:I own a European PAL PS2 and I am soon getting a flip top with swap discs to play some imports.As some of you might know FFXI is not availble in Europe yet(It may never be...),so i was woundering if I would be able to play the American NTSC game on my modded PS2 with a network adapter(would I have to purchase and european or an american one?)

No since you need the hard drive for the PS2 installed the slide card wont work with things like that, it only helps boot import games and copied games.

Well, the epic grind starts more around 70, due to lack of content. Remember, they randomly added 71-75 back in January (I think it was January). There was no real new mob content to counter this, so of course it tapers off quickly. Promathia I'm sure will address this, and apply the new experience rules. 60~70 should be fine though, and yield the positive results. I couldn't tell you yet, I've been leveling warrior. I can tell you before the patch my ninja could pull 6k/hr easy in a well formed group. Can't wait to see if that changes.
On a random note. I got suspended for a week for *****ing POL out when they announced the Labor Day patch. I sent them a "friendly" (read:tasteless) e-mail that they banned me for today. Comedy platinum. Sucks for me though, I sent another the other day after trying to download the patch for five hours to no avail given their service is terrible. If I'm not banned after they read that one, I have another week to of freedom, haha.

Oh, forgot to add this. Yesterday, my friend randomly cooked up this scheme to con a lvl 51war out of all his armor and money and stuff. It worked amazingly. But the guy returned, and my friend had a GM on his *** very shortly. Friend didn't believe GM's actually existed >> Now he knows the truth, and would like to avoid being in FFXI jail again.
I could have avoided him going to jail probably had I told him I'd actually seen a GM before they all started to go Invis, and been around when someone called one for improper beahvior or something in Sandy. (was invis then. sad thing too, I think they looked really cool) had I told him that, I think the guy would have gotten his stuff back real quick. But nonetheless, guy got his stuff back after that, and we're all friends now lol >> Funny/interesting story I thought I'd share.

Haha, jail is awesome. It's like Horutoto, but it's just a single room box.
And yeah, the new Level 29 warrior armor is hot. It's WAR/PLD only, and very tank oriented. Higher DEF than Centurions, and +VIT/AGI bonuses. I didn't get the gloves though. Royal Squires Mufflers are awesome. No reason not to take +accuracy as a job expected to be doing damage.

I got my warrior to level 25 today, from 23 - 25 in one party so I didnt get a chance to buy the chain armour yet. I'll be buying it before I go to Kazham though. I've leveled my warrior pretty quickly compared to how slow I went with my WHM ^^
EDIT: wow... after getting to 25 I logged out for an hour and when I came back there was server maintenance on so I couldnt log in. After a few hours it finally ended so I bought all the pieces of chain armour I could afford and sold of those slots of beetle armour. I was just about to get a chocobo and go farm somewhere to get more money for the rest of my armour and a message pops up on screen telling me to logout because maintenance will be starting soon >< I was on for no more than 10 minutes before it happened again...

I'm a noob at this game but I've started and it's great so far. I've already read the some FAQs but I just need another opinion. Would a SMN/BLM (or vice versa) be a good combination if you're only concentrating on performing black magic or summons? I know BLM/WHM or SMN/RDM is good but I'm talking about a 1-dimensional character. This is my brother's plan. He's a BLM now.

I have learned now to keep as much of old armor as I can, since I am constantly lvling other jobs. Definately keep your chain armor, as that crap is expensive and if you plan to go pld or drk after doing warr. YOu will probably need a mule character for that. As far as FFXI in europe, I thought it was already planned that they were going to get it, well at least in like germany. Smn/blk is ok I guess, you will get more party invites below 20 as a smn/wht. Wht/Smn is nice as it gives you more mp, faster mp recovery after lvl 10 (smn), and improved mnd/int, etc etc. Smn as a sub doesn't do much for attacking as its half whatever your normal lvl is, and your summon will get trashed pretty quick. According to the playonline website, FFXI will open in Europe on 9/16 http://www.playonline.com/ff11eu/index.shtml The question I have, is that a lot of people just think that WHT is a horrible sub job for Warr. I have used it, and really enjoy it as it gives me useful stuff like Cure 2, and Divine Seal (Wht lvl 15), as well as some enfeebling spells like dia. I have tried Warr/Pld, but it doesn't seem to be any better in def. Some people say that Warr/Mnk is what you are supposed to sub. I used Mnk at early lvls for my mages because they have vurtually no def, and the hand to hand skills worked out pretty good.

BLM/SMN isn't worth playing. For some extra MP and Refresh @ 50. You give up the extra HP and plethora of WHM spells. BLM/WHM is a monster against Elementals. RDM would be a better sub than SMN. At least with both you get Deodorize/Sneak/Invisible eventually, which are very useful for one of the physically weakest job.
As far as SMN subjobs, the near unanimous choice is WHM. SMN/BLM just doesn't get invites. Hell, SMN/WHM can be a better healer than WHM/??? in some situations (when you need more consistent healing as opposed to Cure4s)

Now, after my experience with Ninja/Thief, I've learned that explaining why a combo doesn't work is at least more enlightening, although Jojo is taking this well.
BLM/SMN isn't bad IN THEORY. You do get more MP and Auto-Refresh. It is nice, in some ways. However, you don't get the "Oh ****!" ability that a BLM/WHM gets, because they can heal when things get REALLY bad. Outside of the dunes, you will not be asked to main heal. However, if there's an emergency, you can heal up and hopefully keep the group alive as it either runs or finishes off the mob.
SMN/BLM has its downside in that the accuracy of a magical attack is based on your Elemental Magic Skill. Now, while you'll never flat out miss a magic attack, Black Magic can have partial/full resists, which results in less damage, and happens more if the Magical Accuracy is low, which it will be with an elemental skill at half the level of your main job. This is a load of mumbo-jumbo that can be shortened to "You honestly can't cast worth crap from your sub job". You'll understand, bit by bit, as you play more.

and currently the only armor I have is the Field set (minus the boots, since I log, and they don't help that) because I sold all my chain stuff to get that... yeesh... talk about a bad move....
While I like the new lvl29 armor, the fact that it costs a whole friggin lot will keep me from grabbing it... that and because of it, Centurion set has gone down in price ^^

this afternoon, put very simple. was incredibly good.... started logging like any other day, expecting to leave with no more than a stack of arrowwood and ash lmbr along with an elm log... but, oh, was I ever wrong..... I left with 5 elm logs, a stack o Arrowwood, and a stack of assk... 27k right there... I was finally able to get the Cent. visor, and ryl. sqr. mitts and sollerets... I can finally begin lvl'ing my War more... after a 2 week inability to... I can finally go lvl again....

The necklace I'm definitely in agreement over. Spike Necklaces are nicer and hardly more expensive. Unless he means to a Tiger Stole, in which case it's a matter of opinion, as 5 attack isn't necessarily better then 3 Str. and 3 Dex., since Str. boosts the damage curve, although it's only 1 attack. The rings I'd personally recommend you up to the +1 versions, as you're a Warrior and until you're out of death jungle, you are in fierce competition for party spots, and if your search comment has your stats, people can tell you're serious. Afterwards, I consider it a nice favor to have your relevant stats in the search window, for instance, +Att, +Dex, +Agi for thieves, +Att., +Str,+Acc, for Warriors, etc.

I'm actually currently lvling my DRK, and will probably keep lvling that instead of War, or both, I'm not sure really. When I have the time and energy (because yes, it requires energy to do this -.-; ) I'll get the info and everything and try and make the info on there more accurate.
I'll look into some necklaces and rings also, but I tend to run pretty low on money, so it's a hard thing to do (any suggestions for earrings would be appreciated also)
So... currently, I'm running 3 versions of my Vabe char: War/Mnk, Mnk/War(soley for lvling mnk for first job), and Drk/War (which will likely become more my main job combo).
Help, tips, etc. always wanted. Anyway, for now, I'm taking a somewhat involuntary 1 1/2 day break from it, as I'll be out of town. bye.

sneak does not work with ranged, and this is one of the reasons no one uses rng/thf (not saying u cant, just no one does)
the jobs that are most used are rng/war, rng/nin, rng/sam. war sub gets beseerk which makes u do more damage, nin gets high agi and can cast blink which will save ur *** tons and dual weilding so u can carry +12 ranged accuracy daggers, and sam at level 30 gets meditaite.
no not all ranged weapon use arrows/ammo there is also throwing, but ninja are the master of that, ranger should stick to bows/crossbows/guns.
barrage i think is on a one min timer, but no one uses it that much cause u do to much dammage and the mob will come and kill u.
drink like orange juice will restore ur mp at a certain rate, i dont thik there is any for hp or tp. But thee are used in emergencies only anyway. If u want to use food use meat ckabobs.

If I remember right from my random browsings through people's Bazaar's and the AH, there is this interesting item called 'Icaarus Wings' (the guy who flew too close to the sun) that instantly gives you 100% TP... only bad thing is you can only use them like, once an hour or something like that. I've never bought any since I usually don't have a TP problem plus the damn things cost a bit because they're sort of hard to find.... as far as I know.

I'm going to be really blunt here: Ranger subbing samurai is just retarded. There is absolutely no reason a ranger should even have to consider subbing samurai. Rangers have probably the fastest TP gain in the game. If not, they still give samurai a damn good run for their money (no comparison before they nerfed meditate to 3 minutes instead of 1, but these days...wow). Even in a party with a rng/nin and a war/sam at level 64, the ranger was ready at the begining of every single fight to use sidewinder, and the warrior had to meditate the tp up when she could. When grouping with rangers on my thief, rangers could get close to or over 200 before I was ready to chain with them. It's just a waste of a sub. The only excuse I could see is maybe for the extra 60% TP that would go towards accuracy, but then you're missing out on the off hand ranged accuracy dagger to help all of your shots, on top of the fact you only have one shadow, that only absorbs a single physical attack, and you have to refresh it every signle minute. Terrible, terrible idea.
Barrage progressively gets better. When you first get it, I believe it starts out at 4 hits. You activate the skill, and it modifies your next ranged attack. So, you hit the skill then hit ranged attack, and your next shot can do up to 4x damage. Eventually you'll get a potential 5 hits, and then a potential 6. Each hit calculates hit/miss separately, so they aren't garanteed. Never the less, it's a lot of damage at once, and a very solid skill.
Oh, and for the record, rangers hit barrage constantly. If a ranger isn't using barrage, they suck at Final Fantasy. It's not hard to tank through a barrage if the ranger isn't a complete idiot.
Icarus Wings are a special case item. They're popular for extreme fights. For instance... Warrior fight with Maat at level 70. Warrior fighting Maat = Raging Rush (Icarus Wing)> Raging Rush = Fragmentation = win.

Just for the record, everyone ends up levelling WHM for soloing quests, although that's mostly for Sneak/Invis rather then anything else.
Now, I personally am not sure, as R.Atk (Ranged Attack) is a hidden stat, but I'm relatively certain that most non-Ranger abilities do not stack with Ranged attacks, because they boost Attack. If I am wrong, Micheal can correct me, or perhaps a high level Ranger or Warrior, but I'm relatively sure things like Warcry and Boost (Don't sub Monk. I'm just giving an idea) don't stack, as they boost Attack, not Range Attack. I am, however, 100% sure that Sneak Attack doesn't stack with it. Just be aware that the only class that spends more then a Ranger per level is Ninja, I think. I'm not really sure on that. Either way, it is expensive, and you will have to farm. A lot. And farm some more. And then, more farming. I suggest you take up Woodworking, as it crafts most arrows, and it is cheaper to craft arrows yourself then to buy them. Cheaper still if you collect the wood, but that's also difficult.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I guess I'll find out more which would make a better subjob for RNG. I didn't want to at first, but I'm now leaning towards NIN or SAM. I'll use my thief for subbing purposes later. If you don't mind, I just need some clarification on some things:
1. Does the SAM's Third Eye only evade physical attacks?
2. Is it true that job abilities such as Beserk/Warcry/Boost/Last Resort do not affect ranged attacks?
3. Does Barrage work on weapon skills?
4. Does Flee make you faster in battle or is it only used for running?
5. Do the NIN's supplies take up space in the item inventory?

Alright, I can handle these, 2 excepted:
1. Indeed, it will only work on one physical attack.
2. Again, I know for a fact that they boost Attack, but nowhere do they mention boosting R. Attack.
3. I'm relatively sure it does, as most of the Rangers I've partied with used it before their WSs. Also, the wording on the ability seems to be similar to Sneak Attack/Trick Attack's, also leading me to believe it does.
4. There is no difference between your speed in combat and your speed on the map, since you just draw your weapons on the map and start swinging.
5. Indeed they do. It is recommended that a main Ninja get Gobbiebag I and II done, for the purpose of freeing up inventory.
Personally, I do recommend Ninja as a RNG sub, for Utsusemi, and on occasion, Tonko. I realize this makes you the guy who spends the most per level (Money on Ninja tools while levelling Ninja, money on Utsusemi tools while levelling Ranger, Ammunition for Ranger, and some pretty darn expensive NM drops for those who wish to be uber), but it is the only one I could imagine using, were I to level Ranger.

I recently just got Sneak Attack. Pretty useful. I'm just not sure on it's limitations. Can it still work on an opponent that's locked onto you as long as it's back is turned? That's what the description says at least. I think you at least get criticals if you do it wrong but I'm not sure.

Short and long of it is, it is nigh impossible to land a Sneak Attack on a moving monster. If it is actively hitting you, well, you're not going to land one. This is why a good tank is needed: The tank holds the hate so not only does the White Mage not get hit, but so that the Thief (Or, later on, Melee/Thief) can land his Sneak Attack/Trick Attack. The mob basically can't be turning around. This is why the tank must stand still: So that the mob does too.

Wow! That's very impressive, and thanks for the link. I'm learning a lot as of late. I've fought in the dunes for the first time although we didn't have a tank for most of it. Since it's nigh impossible to land on a moving opponent, I guess there is still a chance. I was just wondering if you'd still be able to pull it off solo if say the enemy was casting a magic spell. I was also concerned how useful a thief would be against human opponents in a PvP setting since people won't easily fall for it.

You'd be surprised. People DO fall for it. It's no insult to them: Ballista is very chaotic. They just won't notice you. It also helps when you run around invisible like I do. Also, when combined with the level 45 ability Hide, Sneak Attack will land from any direction. But you have to activate SA before you activate Hide.
Oh, and the rules are greatly relaxed when fighting humans. SA can land on a moving target. As near as I can tell, a Thief's only role in Ballista is to target lighter melee and mages: Rangers in particular, because they can't move to act.

They do, people will use berserk before weaponskills and the like. Problem is, ranger already does a ton of damage. You should only take a warrior sub to ranger if you are VERY comfortable with the people you're grouped with, and they have the proper counter-measures.
3. Does Barrage work on weapon skills?
Nope. Nor does it work with ammo with processes (sleep, stun, etc). Typically the barrage before a WS is to build up the rest of their TP (if they need more) or to pump up the accuracy/damage of the ws. Otherwise it should be used whenever it comes up, regardless. For the rangers that mash it before they ws, it's basically a trump card. It's a cowardly ranger who either a) sucks at utsusemi or b) doesn't trust his tank's way of trying to get hate off of them by doing a massive amount of damage all at once and just praying it dies. I'm more in favor of the hardcore rangers that will pull with barrage, simply because it's ready at the time. ;p
4. Does Flee make you faster in battle or is it only used for running?
Just running. White Mage/Red Mage Haste, as well as Summoner-Garuda Hastega make you faster in battle. However, the way FFXI plays, haste plays little overall role, really. The numbers are so small, it's just not something that would matter to anyone. There is one exception: Ninja. Ninja rely heavily on utsusemis, and the faster those are up, the less damage they take.
5. Do the NIN's supplies take up space in the item inventory?
Yes. A lot of it. At 64 I was carrying two sets of gear, three weapons, food, and my ninja tools. Being prepared for a group meant I was around 45/50 slots, all of items I actively made use of.
All of my Ninja AF, the Arhat's set, Emp Pin, Survival Belt and Life Belt, 5-6 stacks of utsusemi, 2 stacks of kurayami, 2 stacks of hojo, 1 stack of jubaku, 1 stack of each element, 2 katana and 1 cermet sword, 2 stacks of meatkabobs.
Later in the game classes can get stun weapons. I didn't reach this point with ninja (stun katana = 72, if I remember correctly). But a stunned mob doesn't turn. Using the proc you could run behind the mob and get a quick sneak attack in.
By the way, there is a difference between holding back, and knowing how to play your job. Obviously it is not a rangers job to sit there mashing ranged attack, hitting barrage, hitting ws, etc. No job is that straight forward. Timing is a part of knowing how to play your job. Understanding your group members is a part of knowing you to play your job. Holding back is when you could be doing more within reason of actively playing your job, but you're just a pansy and refuse to do so because it puts you at more risk than you're willing to personally take.
This same principle is also easily applied to thieves. Yes, you COULD constantly s/t every minute they were up. But that's not the smart thing to do. It's not holding back the damage you could be doing, it's applying your trade to maximum effectiveness. Thieves at higher end do maybe 2 s/t's per fight. The initial one for hate, and then they save it to be ready at any given time for the skillchain. Nothing I hate more than having to wait on a trigger happy thief. Wastes potential kill speed when thief has 30s on timer and the mob is prime hp for the chain. By the time a trigger happy thief is ready, most of the skillchain damage is wasted.
Black Mages. They COULD spam spells and burn all their mp in one fight, but that's not the effective way to play the job. It's not holding back knowing how to manage your MP to maintain a #5 chain.

I agree entirely on his point on the difference between holding back for strategy and holding back to keep your (Or in a Thief's case the SATA buddy's) fat out of the fire. Hardest thing I had to learn during my stint as a BLM was MP conservation.
And despite whatever I said in my link, I usually had SATA up and ready for fire. There were cases where I didn't though, and I mentally kicked myself each time.
And our Stun Kukri are level 67, if memory serves.
Edit: I should specify; Flee will increase your movement speed, but not the timers on your abilities.

I heard that some job abilities are weakened for being subbed including SATA. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I hear that SA is only a critical hit and TA only transfers hate. Also, does the NIN's Utsusemi become weakened in some way or is it exactly the same? I'm leaning toward RNG/NIN although I know it's expensive.

Correct. And a THF's TA transfer's more hate then anyone else's as well. I heard that Utsusemi: Ni is only 3 shadows when subbed, but Ichi is still 3. Spells aren't directly nerfed, it's that your casting them at half ability.

Utsu is the same subbed, just that you have about half the possible skill. Skill in Ninjutsu helps casting through damage, so my ninja would have a decent chance to take a critical mid cast and still get the spell off, where as even a weak hit has a really good chance of interrupting a sub ninja. Also it pretty much ruins the ninja debuffs. At 64 even with max ninjutsu skill I can get resisted on my ni debuffs (elementals are pretty much never resisted, I'm talking about blind/slow/paralyze) fairly regularly. With sub skill, you'd only have the ichis, and probably never land them. =p
Let's just say as a ninja with a bard in the party, if I do hojo:ni and he does carnage elegy I can get off an utsusemi:ichi between the attacks of even torama with time to spare. And torama attack fast.

...I hit level 45 today. You know what I started at? 40. One group. One group did all this. We started in Gustav, with Chains going Hell Bat -> Hawker -> Hell Bat -> Hawker -> Goblin, until eventually we started killing enemies faster then they spawned. We then proceeded to I think it was Western Altepa Desert, with Beetles galore. Distortion rapes Beetles, and we were doing it every fight. It's not that the Paladin's Distortion did lots of damage; It's that the 3 Magic Bursts from Shiva's Blizzard II, a BLM's Blizzard II, and an RDM's Water II. We didn't have, or need, a WHM.

Still, leveling 20 hours to get 5 minutes of interesting story dialogue is annoying. ^^l;

Heh, if you want more story than grinding, take a look at World of WarCraft, honestly. 90% of the game so far has been questing. Granted not all of it ties into an overall storyline, but there are quest lines with their own stories and stuff that develop as you go along. You get rather nice xp for questing, and there's a really really soft learning/leveling curve. Basically, 1-20 in less than a week a couple hours a night isn't that hard-- all while actively questing and pursuing a generic story.
Still praying EQ2 isn't bad. It can't possibly be either way when I have at least 10 people that are joining me.

It is released in Europe but only the PC version.
Square have said they have no plans on releasing a PAL PS2 version. Squares conversions of the past FF games have been horrible though, big black borders along the top and bottom of the screen and it runs a lot slower than the NTSC versions of the games. If square tried to convert FFXI then it wouldnt run properly with the other players playing at full speed.

Well, finally made my way to Qufim. I'm trying to level up 2 mains, one for soloing and one for my static party. Anyone know how WHM/RDM fair in terms of getting invites? I don't feel like using the BLM sub right now and the only sub I have for WHM is THF, but I don't think people would want me.

Ah, WHM. 3 different subs. And it makes so little difference. I'll try to give a short version, as that's all I'm qualified to give. I'm not a white mage, magery confuses me. Swordchucks, yo.
Basically, /SMN and /BLM are probably the best, but /RDM is fine too. /SMN (I recognize this is unavaiable to you, as it stands) has the deepest MP pool, and at level 60, you'll get auto-refresh, which gives you 1 MP/3 seconds, which adds up. BLM gives you second highest MP, and Conserve MP, which is a trait that halves MP cost every so often. And, as an added personal bonus, Warp at 30. The ones I see most often are the last two.
However, if you intend at all to solo for exp, you'll need to be a BST, or, if you don't mind spending obscene cash, a Ninja. Those are the only two that can solo for exp.
Congratulations on getting to Qufim, by the way. It's always a nice rush knowing that a certain job isn't going back to the dunes. It's the last you've seen of them, for a while, depending on your sub's level.

It was written by a Japanese player who started on day 1. Before there was information available for it online. Back when everyone was new to the game. And truly, it got me thinking: I will no longer use Allakhazam for quest information. I will not use guides for skilling up. I will not accept help for actually doing the quest anymore, if it's at all possible. Gather an alliance of people for something that needs it? That's one thing. But no more ruining it. I will forge my own path. Even if it is the same path that has been walked on a hundred times over. I will at least know that I didn't see those people's tracks.
...It had me in tears. I know this isn't going to mean anything to most MMO people. But it still needed to be said. Because that's exactly why I joined. It's sorta what happened to me, only much faster.

That was a really cool movie, but I have to see it again with sound since I can't right now. I kinda see what you're saying and that it's all about the adventure. Like all other games, I don't use a stretegy guide or FAQs to make it through quests/missions. I did spoil myself on learning what other jobs can do in advance from allakhazam and people in-game but at least I've never seen it in action yet. I can already relate to the problems of a static party already...which is why I'm trying to play 2 main jobs simulataneously, one for the static (WHM) and one to go on my own pace (THF, then RNG).
This is my first MMORPG and although I have a long way to go, I already love it. I can see how others will say it's boring and that all you do is level up but if you're looking to find the same story-telling elements from a traditional RPG here, you're setting yourself up to be disappointed. Like the movie shows, your interaction between other people is what makes the game fun imo. I'm not a hardcore role-player like some people but I try to incorporate my RL personality into my character as much as possible, which includes helping people a lot.
Besides my brother, cousins and RL friends, I've met some really cool people already. When I first started, I was on the PS2 without a keyboard so I couldn't really talk. I got into a party with another new player (?s on our heads) and we started to fight outside of Windurst although really confused most of the time. In the middle of the battles, I got my first experience being DCed and left my partner alone. It was already late so I didn't have a chance to log on and explain...I felt really guilty. Sometimes I run into her and find that she's always several levels ahead of me but doing just fine.
Well, there are a lot of other memorable experiences for me and there's always something new. I don't know how it is on other servers, but I'm enjoying my time on Sylph.

Simply put, this is just the only easy way for me to say "There's a lot more to the game then maxing out your fame and getting exp". Believe me, it's much nicer seeing that now then after you basically did the following. It's good that you remember adventure. Keep that up.

It's getting better, now that I'm in range to help people with their AF quests. ^^ I am in no hurry to PT, I am too often finding people interested in BCNM40 or want to be invis/sneaked somwhere. XD I cried at the story of the Bard and the queen. Poor lady. Stupid angsty Bard AF quest.

Still planning to get RNG/NIN, but I also enjoy playing RDM as well. Once again, I have some more questions:
-Besides RNG, what other jobs are able to use Marksmenship? I thought they were WAR, SAM, DRK.
-What's the difference between a WHM/RDM's Blink and a NIN's Utsusemi?
-When you cast Utsusemi (Ichi or Ni), how long do you have your shadows if you're NOT fighting at all?
-Does Enhancing ability not affect Regen/Refresh since it has a set duration time?
-Can RNGs use shields at all?

1. Thief has probably the best skill in Marksmanship after Ranger. The jobs you mentioned have some skill in it as well.
2. Blink randomly stops the next 2 hits. It isn't 100% activation. Utsusemi is 100% blockage. Both are taken down by -ga spells
3. It runs about 5 minutes.
5. Uh, check the AH? It's the best answer I could give.

Just to add my two cents to the posts I've missed.
Mage Subs
Black mage is by far the best sub you're going to have as a whm or rdm. It just adds so much extra utility. Escape can make a difference between one death, and six. You don't always get a blm, and someone needs to be able to keep everyone alive if something goes wrong. It shouldn't go wrong, but at the very least, you need an escape plan. As a ninja I wasn't hardcore about having a whm, but I did want someone that could get the rest of the group out of trouble. When trouble came, I didn't think twice to get all the aggro I could, let them escape, then Mijin Gakure. For a Paladin, he just hit's invincible and takes all the hate while the mage gets their escape on.
On top of that, it does give you the second best boost in MP (which you'll find as you get higher and in better concetrated groups with higher skills, you'll need less and less of exp grinding). MP regen isn't going to make much of a difference, because by the game's design, you're just going to have a terrible, terrible day ahead of you if you don't have a rdm or a brd with you. I guess if 1mp every few seconds means something to you while you're standing there, go for it, but it'd take the duration of an entire fight to earn an extra cast of the cure you'd be using at the time. During that time you're probably trading off ticks of standing and sitting anyway, so you'll hardly notice it.
Besides, why be forced to warp scroll like the melees or run back to town every day when the best sub option you have can take you right back to town when you're ready to go? =p
Marksmanship
A number of classes can use it. Warriors and Dark Knights would do well trying to keep it up in my opinion. It has some nice utility within itself. Namely Bloody Bolts. I feel in love with the ability to hit for around 30-40 damage on a ranged shot, AND do drain damage for an aditional 90. I've proced those bolts anywhere between around 40 to 90 damage. Ranged ammo also has a very high activation rate, so those bolts are definitely worth the 3000 investment to do 100+ damage in a single shot at level 30, on a pull, during a fight, whenever. They've saved me in a bind when the whm ran out of mp in the jungles a number of times. Also, thieves originally didn't get access to crossbows, their marksmanship was based on bows and guns. It was also in my warrior's best interest to use Acid Bolts, which lower the defense of the target. I had macros set up to switch between normal bolts (for skill grinding after levels), acid bolts for pulling when I had full hp, and bloody bolts for use in combat and on a pull if I needed the boost (trading one of my shots off for the acid bolt to get that def down). Fighting crabs in Qufim with Acid Bolt Def Down, Great Axe Shield Break Evade down made things really easy. =p
As for marksman classes, war, thf, drk, rng.
edit: I can't remember if thieves can use things like spartan bullets, but if they can, that would be incredible if you kept your skill up. Spartan Bullets have effect: stun, and as I said before, ammo activates very well. A solo thief could stun a mob in combat, run around behind him and get a free sneak attack, mid combat. I've seen farming high level nin/thf do the same with the stun katana.
others
Blink is some what unreliable, and I want to say the spell only works on physical damage, but I don't know, because I avoided pure casters.
Though, I did start up my account last month for a couple weeks (couldn't get into the idea of character progression, did a bunch of quests and left because to keep the story going, I was going to have to level, and I really didn't want to-- besides, EQ2 comes out in a week.). I can tell you that as a main ninja with constantly capped ninjutsu, that utsu nerf they did awhile back with aoe attacks was laughable at best. AOE physicals very rarely took more than 1 shadow from me. Though I'm sure it's much different for the nin subs. It's nice seeing the number though, I like knowing exactly how many shadows Jet Stream took off of me, rather than just assuming it did all three.
I never really timed how long utsusemi lasted after I casted it, because I normally made sure not to have it up if I knew it would get wasted. I would watch mage mp and cast it when they got close to their ready point. But 5-10 minutes sounds about right.
Since spells like regen are a set duration, no, skill isn't going to do much of anything for you. Though if you're getting hit, you do have a higher chance of casting through an interrupt. Should keep your skills maxed anyway. =p
No ranger shields that I can think of. That's one reason rangers like to sub ninja... Otherwise that off hand is just useless. With ranger you can hold something in that other hand. There are reasons for doing both warrior and ninja, but warrior takes some a very good understanding of the game's mechanics for aggression.

When I went back, no one was hyped about CoP at all. It seems like a wasted expansion, because while there's plenty to do or see, none of it was really exciting, or well utilized. Maybe it's just getting a slow start, but people were still much more anxious to unlock Sky(Tu'lia[Zilart Missions]), and level to raid/continue to raid Dynamis.
By the way CoP is mostly higher level content, so unless you're 60ish, don't expect to be doing much there as far as missions go. Or at least, that's the impression I got when a 60 bard was saying it took him three tries to clear one of the emptiness zones (I forget what they ended up calling them in game-- stupid bastard company naming things one thing then something completely different. They did the same thing with dynamis.)

I remember when I tried to use Dreamcast Web Browser with my old 56K modem and I set the settings as the ISP booklet said and it still didn't work.
I'm sorry but I don't know what I can do. Maybe Netscape set up something to block out certain connections or online games?

Maybe Playonline doesn't know about Netscape ISP so it isn't in their system so they can verfied it and let people use that ISP or something? Sorry if I'm no help? Also its really recommended that you get Broadband. Since there are huge mandatory updates you have to do with Playonline and FFXI that you need to automattically download.
