Go with bee chips and honey. Even better get to 30 and get thf to 15, go out as rdm/thf and kill bees, you can steal honey from them, and then have more honey and chips drop when you kill them.

The strongest bees I know of are in Tahrongi Canyon, are there any else where?

If you really want silk thread.. start raising THF on the side. >_>;

To get gil 'fast' in fishing.. become one of the dreaded moat-carp fishermen. :P Level from 2-5 on those Quus and Sardines. Then head to the Knight's Well in West Ronfaure with a Carbon Rod + Insect paste (or worms, but it's harder to snag the pricier fish) and catch moat carp until lvl 11. At that left, you should consistently get 6 fish out of one stack of insect paste on good fishing days/moons.

Thats a great way to make gil, i made like 16k in like 5hours doing that, over the corse of two real days....

Pft, 16k/5hrs? =p I'd go insane doing that. I'll stick to farming tigers where I make 16k in about an hour and a half at most.

I learned something today. NM ninjas are cheaters. I was killing the Fuma Kyahan NM in Castle Oztroja when he did Mijin Gakure. He was almost dead so the damage on it was terrible (38). He fell to the ground..AND GOT BACK UP AND KEPT FIGHTING ME. Punk. Didn't give me what I wanted either. =/

I've been thinking of getting theif up to 15 aswell for the treasure hunter trait. How much of a difference does it really make for getting items from the enemies?

I make 20k-30k an hour with Rusty caps after investing in fishing. I could make up to 60k an hour if I wasn't lazy and turned them into padded caps.

Alright, first you need your Kazham pass. To get that, you need to get a Palborough Mines key, a Ghelsba Key, and a Giddeus Key, which are gotten from mobs in those dungeon (Ghelsba key is actually in Yughott Grotto). The only mobs that I remember that drop them are Old Quadavs, and Yagudo Theologians. 2 lvl 25s can take the monsters easily enough, but a party with a Thief is better. After that, go take your keys to Port Jeuno, and talk to one of the Galka at the Kazham airship ports. Bingo ^^

All I know is that I get cash faster then DRL here, and he's an RDM. I just go to North Gustaberg, throw out my Long Boomerang, and kill mobs in one hit, MAYBE two. On average, I get a drop per mob, Gobs excepted (1 in maybe 15). Pretty much every drop is worth cash, except Insect Wings, which I just drop. In an hour, I make, at worst, 10k an hour, but since it goes to the AH, I can't just make instant cash like Michael ><. When the AH is full, I start killing Saplings in Konschtat, because the Treant bulbs sell for 72 to NPC shops, so it's about 864 gil a stack. Not much, but no waiting or reliance on my fellow players, so it's got it's place.

lvl 29 fishing, L10 Lake of La Theine only because Rabao is so crowded. *_* Though I'm sure I could make more if I went to Rabao, this L10 lake gives me more skillups with the Frog Lure. :) Plus, the extra terrapin I catch go for 7k a stack at the fishing guild.

Fishing is the slowest thing to level, but it's fun while you wait to join a PT. ^^ If you know where to fish, you can do very well dedicating a week to hitting lvl 20-30.

It costs a certain amount. I think 10k if you want to join the top ranked city. Maybe 5k for the 2nd ranked city, and 1k for the last ranked city. Not entirely sure, but I'm pretty positive about 10k for the 1st ranked city. Also, be sure to spend your conquest points BEFORE you switch to another city. They don't pass over.

Didn't really say anything before, but I made 58 last night, more than likely make 59 tonight. After that, one more level and I'll be a full AF ninja. ...until 63/64 when I get Arhat's Jinpachi and Gi.

Trying to level low jobs again is so dull when you could go back to get 120~200 per kill and chain 3 or 4. -_-; Been trying to level up my warrior to sub with for my monk. I need to do some melee, need a break from being a caster.

Leveling WHM at low levels is dull. Especially while soloing. ~_~ And around lvl 10 there are a lot of n00bs floating about so you get a lot of parties where no one knows what the hell they're doing. -.-

Once you can get into PTs, you're allowed to be picky. :) You can even start your own PTs with relative ease.

"Do you have a healer?"

I've got around 4000 conquest points so I can get some pretty good things. I'm going to buy the best thing I can and then sell it at the AH.

Haha, I bet a bunch of people dislike me now, but that's their own fault and they need a scapegoat--the tank. We were doing BLM AF3 battle in Toraimarai Canal, and they wanted to do the thing where you spawn it and then wait awhile for it to despawn, then spawn it, wait awhile for it to despawn-- four times and fight it the last. Now the first fight, I will take responsibility for. Allakhazam's said that it was non-aggro, and as a ninja I knew everyone would freak out when I started running around casting ninjutsu. But Ninjutsu doesn't count as casting, so elementals/bombs/etc don't aggro me anyway. I was just messing with people and running around. Well apparently the mob does aggro, and I got too close while running around and it jumped on me. So we proceeded to destroy it--after the first spell it cast was SleepGA. It was a relatively easy fight, no problems at all, and we decided to fight them for each person because it'd be quicker, and more fun than just standing around since it took us two and a half hours to get people there (not a single blackmage did their homework, they just started making an alliance and drug us there.) The first fight a pld was tanking, but the nm was doing drain and aspir on him, so he asked me to primary tank the second one. So the second mage goes up to the ??? and clicks it, nothing happens. We found out he ****ed up during the quest. So the third blm walks up to it, clicks it, the NM spawns, and we're staring at it waiting. Someone says "So, fight it again or just wait?" Naturally, you have 18 people, no one agrees on a statement like that right off the bat. So someone says "let's kill it" so I reach for my chakram and toss it right as others are saying "NO WAIT FOR THE SECOND BLACKMAGE" (yeah, wait for the second blackmage to retrace his steps until he does the quest right? ...okay no thanks, this one is right here). Everyone was full MP, full HP. Now remember when I said it did Sleepga on me? I told the party this when he did it to me, I made sure they knew it could sleepga. Did they listen? Hell no. Everyone's in one big mob trying to beat on it, even the blm and whm are meleeing 18 people crowded around a little elemental. Little elemental starts to cast sleepga. That screwed us over hardcore. Pretty much everyone dies, I manage to mijin gakure with 6hp left. After everything? KANZEN WHY DID YOU PULL!? Gee, why did I pull when everyone was full hp/mp, why did I pull when someone said "let's fight it." Why do people even spawn things if we're going to lolligag and jerk around waiting for someone to fix their quest. Oh no, it was my fault for pulling it. Why did eveyrone decide to stand 1cm away from a mob I told them can sleepga? Oh, whatever, we all died, since I pulled it, it's my fault.

I'm laughing. People are so retarded they have to blame things on others. I take partial responsibility sure, because maybe three out of 18 people saying "let's just fight it" probably isn't enough to pull it. However, my pulling it had nothing to do with why we died. We got sleepga'd. 18 people got sleepga'd. The first to drop were our pld and whm (pld pulled hate off of me when the thing managed to drop my shadows real quick, and wouldn't let me take it back). Everything went down hill. Stuff happens that could have been avoided, and were not nearly solely placable on me pulling when a couple people told me to. ;p

Ahh, wow, there are sites with that information now. Back when that was a hot issue for my original linkshell, Vengeance of Time, not a single NA site had the information, and no one had the balls to try and change alliegences because no one really knew if you got your cp/rank back if you switched back, we only knew you lost your CP and had to start over.

Apparently the it's 4k - 12k - 40k. Windurst may drop this next conquest, but it might not. Right now Sandy is in the lead but a lot can easily happen between now and then. Conquest is usually really jumpy until the last day. Except Tu'lia, I don't think that's ever not Windy dominated.

I have a little over 15k now so I dont really mind if windurst go in to second or third I just dont want to pay 40k for it.

I know there are sites that say these things but as I looked around I kept getting different prices so I decided to just check for myself.

My little brother has been playing non stop for the last 2 weeks. He's a Taru, so he started as a WHM and subbed BLM, but for some reason he decided he didn't want to do that anymore. So for the last 2 weeks he's been leveling WAR with his Taru. He just hit 30 today and he's going for Ninja. He's currently fighting for buffer EXP to get out of the Death Jungle because he didn't listen to me when I told him to make sure he had a Scroll of Instant Warp before he went there.

I've pretty much been coaching him here then there as I pass by to check on his progress. I'm kind of surprised that he managed to get WAR up to 30 so fast with a Taru.

Don't bother. Long Boomerang is only such an efficient kill for me because my Agi is through the roof compared to my Str, and I went through a LOT of effort raising my Boomerang Skill just so I could do this. It's also a higher damage rating then my Merc Captain's Kukri. It's at 50 or so right now, which is a huge help. Bear in mind, you're wasting money if you use Projectile weapons, because you have to pay for arrows/bolts/shuriken. Plus, Bows/Guns/Crossbows are more expensive then Boomerangs/Chakram. I recommend you go smack enemy things with your sword. At an equal level, you probably hit harder then I do.

I HATE leveling up black mage past level 8, its just way to slow. The only way i can win some fights is by casting bind from as far away as possible and just casting stone, water, stone, water etc... until the bind wears off. The main problem is that I have to heal after EVERY single fight because I use up most of my MP in 1 battle :(

Its just getting to 10 is the hard part. I think I'll just fight a bunch of easy preys then in sarutabaruta. Once I get to 10 it should be easy enough, I got from 10 - 15 really quick in the maze with my WHM.

edit: the maze is Maze of Shakamri. Its just off Tahrongi Canyon. Its full of worms called Maze Makers so BLMs can level there really quickly. its best to be in a PT though.

If you go to the canyons and head to the north east you will find the entrance. I wouldnt recommend soloing worms until you are about lvl 14-15. I was in a party of 2 blm and whm (me) and we lvled from 10-13 in under two hours or so. Stay in the tunnels though cuz the gobs there are pretty tough.

Ninja update. I made 60 a couple days ago, should make 61 in a couple more days (patch day gets in the way of that... 8hr down time 1pm-9pm est...so retarded-- they really need to try and balance updates better... alternate who gets the advantage each time, because NA just get's totally shafted time and time again.) Anyway, after 61 leveling will probably slow down a little, given 30,000+ tnls. We usually make ~15-20k a day when we xp, so figure we're going to go to a level a day to a level every other day. I'll be content at 66 though-- Blade: Ten. It's going to rule so much.

I've been trying to skillup sword, since aside from the skillchain friendliness of katana, katana generally sucks. I'm using Cermet Sword +1, which owns majority of katana available even at higher levels. My new Lv61 katana are 30/227, while my Cermet+1 is 33/213. And the Cermet+1 is only 25k, it's not like I went and spent an insane amount of money. So my pt where I leveled 60 I was offhanding sword the whole time, and I got 25 points in the pt (haha). I helped a ninja I've helped out before get his Ifrit's Cauldron key earlier, offhanded sword the whole time, only got ~3 points total in sword. I also died three times to Final Sting, which ignores your shadows. Not fun getting hit for 1110dmg when your max is 1121. It was worth it though, even with three deaths we had a whm with us, so after three deaths and three raise2s, plus all the killing we did, I still came out +1000 xp than what I went in with.

I've decided after I get some of my hot ticket items for the next few levels (arhat's equip) I'm going to start farming and putting a lot of money into clothcraft, until I get to 48 skill. Once there, I'm going to grind guild points until I can get the clothcraft glasses. I aspire to look like this (http://www.altimit.cc/ffxiss/smartninja01.jpg). It will be grand.

Aside from that, just wasting money on ninja, enjoying every minute of it-- looking like a total badass in full ninja AF, and rubbing it in peoples faces when I run fast at night.

I solod my mission 3.2 mob. not a tough one, but us Thieves don't do well against anything we can't Sneak Attack. A high level on the LS came along and offered to help me, so I said "Lemme see if I can solo the thing first". First thing I do when it pops is Dodge, and it became a fun little slugging match for a while. If it had used Corkscrew though, it might have gotten a LOT nastier.

WOO HOO! Congrats on getting lvl 20 fishing!!!

Get a Composite or Mithran + a Frog Lure and head directly to the little L-10 lake of La Theine. :) Mind, you won't actually catch non-stop fishes here unless you're here on Earthsday or Darksday, but you WILL raise your skill level madly. You should be able to use this lake to powerlevel from 20-32 (remember you need a catfish @ lvl 28 fishing for the fishing guild, then you can run back). You also make decent gil. ^^ Also, a water element spawns in the area, so you can repeatedly kill it if you ever need water crystals.

Notes:

-Discard any Dark Bass you find, unless you want to use them for a quest later on. Just 40gil each, and sell equally poorly in the AH.
-KEEP any Red Terrapin. These goes for like 900 gil EACH at the fishing guild in Selbina. Convenient, because Valkurm Dunes is right next to where you are fishing. :)
-Giant Catfish are 300-400 gil each at the fishing guild, but they don't stack. *_* I kept them and sold them anyways. You'll catch these guys the most. I didn't mind marching back to Selbina to sell them because it's a nice break from fishing.
-Rusty Caps. KEEEEEEP. Do NOT throw these out, or you will smack yourself later. (I met a guy who threw away about 17 the previous day. I told him how much they were worth, and he almost cried.) These sell for 2k gil EACH at the San d'Oria auction house. ^___^ And they sell almost instantly if you drop the price to 1900. Rabao is overfished. This is a nice lake to return to for Rusty Cap fishing.
-I have NEVER heard of a composite rod breaking here, so the investment is worth it. :) Composite rods are like 8k in the AH, and Frog Lures are like 4k there as well... but they are excellent investments for really fast skillups at this lake. A friend of mine got to lvl 39 fishing in 2 weeks following my advice. *_* I'm only lvl 35 fishing because I had to level a lot recently. (My LS keeps asking me if I can teleport them places. XD So I'm working to hit 36 with my WHM.)

Edit: Ishotik, you cant become a ninja until one of your basic jobs is level 30. O_o But if you wanna level Ninja.. not sure, but leveling WAR should be fine.

Yes, I plan on leveling war to 30 then getting Nin and leveling that to its max. Ive been reading alot on ninja and I hear its the most expensive and toughest class to work with. @_@ I hope I can handle it! I really want to* Ill have about 30k+ from my first chara to give to my noobie so I won't start out poor. I know 30k isnt much, but itll help me start out I hope. I also need to get norg fame for the Utsusemi quest. I heard zinc ores was the fastest way. =X

Bastok is so ugly. >_<; I just started leveling my lower jobs in San d'Oria's region. I've memorized the Ronfaure and La Theine regions. *_* Ninja is expensive.. a lot of people with Ninjas have high level Rangers to support their Ninja.. XD I thought that was interesting.

I think you can buy 20k worth of Zinc Ore to get enough fame, but I'm not sure. :X If that's right, I'll just do that instead of farm the Yagudo necklaces.

Ill do the zinc ore thing then. Advantage of bastok is worms. Ill fight plenty of them till lvl 12 (I solo till 12 hah) So ill get some zinc ore, plus my first chara has liek 6 on her. I dont know what to do tho... Bastok is so well known to me and I know exactly what to do till 12 solowise...

Bastok is a good area to start out solo, so is San d'Oria. Windurst not so much, but Windurst area has a lot of opportunity for money. Bastok/Sandy are great because there are worms that range in enough levels to get a really good start, grind a little, and then destroy more worms. Worms die so quickly, you can easily solo chain them at low solo levels.

However, Windy on the other hand has lots of wind and fire crystal drop mobs, which go for up to 2000 for a stack, not to mention a high concentration of newbie level crawlers, which drop silk-- stacks sell for 10,000G. Can easily go from 3-11ish on crawlers alone, if you wanted to, but it takes awhile, and it's risky if they poison you. They also drop crawler calculi- 3 = 600G, so another easy money source. Windy also has very easy access to the Valkurm alternative, Maze of Shakrami.

Though if you honestly wanted to do the zinc version of the quest (I hated trying to farm zinc. I don't care if you need a lot more necklaces for the alternative, regardless of needing more, they dropped like 10 times as fast, and I wasn't about to spend money on building my fame. Banked all my gear, went naked into Giddeus [they don't drop feathers there] and just went crazy. Once inventory was full, I'd made a ton of gil in drops [sub thf], so I turned in all the yagudo necklaces, made money from turn ins, then used all the money I made farming and from turn ins to buy another batch from AH until I broke even, turned those in, then went back to fill my inventory in Giddeus. Took a couple hours, but it was worth it-- more worth it than camping zinc anyway. My mentality at the time was, if I'm going ot farm to make money, I'm going to use that money towards food, equipment, etc. I dunno, spending money on a quest just to do another quest for a scroll I'm going to learn, never be able to quest again, and not be able to sell for the 100k it's worth just seems like a waste. If I were to just up and sell the scroll, heck yeah I'd pay 20k just to turn it into +80k. =p

Now then, ninja. At my level, 30-40k per level in ninjutsu tools. Yeah, ninja is pretty expensive. It can be more expensive, but I don't waste my money on certain things like katon and constant hojo/jubaku. I focus mainly on huton/hyoton (+wind-ice, +ice-fire, they go together, and I hyoton for bursts. Plus it's only 1k a stack. ;p), then kurayami. Soloing you need hojo(slow)/jubaku(paralyze), but I don't often do that, so it's not much of an issue.

Honestly, I don't think you should delete your current character, unless you're also not content with the model/face/name you chose. Otherwise, just keep the same character. Having red mage levels will help you a lot. Especially if you get rdm to 20. I don't have whm or rdm up to 20, so when I go do quests and explore and waste time, I have to spend 6k on a stack of 12 silent oils. I wish I did have caster leveled enough for sneak, but I don't have the patience for it.

I see, I see. =x Ill probably try this: Start in sandy (always wanted to try sandy) then run to bastok and do my thing over there (since I know that area so well) But who knows. I deffenatly don't want to start in wind due to the fact that its so damn annoying. Everything about wind confuses me so much and its just a big maze full of tarus. Its a nice region and all but its just not my thing.

Sounds expensive but from what ive heard it can go both ways. Example would be... I heard Nin/War is way more expensive and effective for getting a PT and what not. Then theres Nin/Thf which helps you out with the gil situation being ull always have thf subbed and you can still deal out major damage and use blink to not get hit when doing so. I know the /war will probably be way more effective as far as getting PTs because you can take some hits as well as voke but the /thf will make the class easier to handle. So confused. =\

Im not really happy with my current chara. I like the name, and I think id make a really good name for a ninja XD but I dont see me as a small girl with black hair. Im going elvaan without a doubt but Ive yet to decide the skin and name... ect~ I would like it to be male/medium. Don't know what all the other elvaans go* small/med/large?

Also, the zinc ore quest* Do you need quest rating to do it or are you fine with no quest rating? Cause if you dont need quest rating id really help me out starting in bastok, ect ect.

There's a 0 fame quest that starts off the zinc ore where you only need one, after that you bring four at a time.

Uhm, you could go nin/thf, but I'm adamant that it's just freaking retarded. Ninja do terrible damage, regardless of what people try and agrue. Sneak only affects the first hit when subbed, trick will help all hits, but not the same as thief. Thus, we're limited in the skills we can use as a nin/thf, and we can't even s/t until 60. At 60 is a nice 3 hit, but again, sneak only doubles the first hit, and then trick affects all but not as much. Do whatever you want, whatever floats your boat, but I look at nin/thf and just laugh. nin/war you'll shoot through the levels if you know what you're doing, especially on Odin. We have maybe 4-5 capable na ninja. Ninja is a job typically played by japanese, people, everyone will think you're japanese, invite you in japanese. You'll get invites at any hour of the day because EVERYONE wants you to tank.

...sadly there are success stories. Like Narutokun in his 50s on Odin. He's a nin/war that can't tank. He admits to this. He refuses to tank. "attack ninja!" Wow go ninja, I attack really really fast for ... 25dmg! GO SERIES OF SCRATCHES!

After I get to level 20 with my WHM I think I might level up THF and WAR for a while. THF for the treasure hunter trait at lvl 15 and WAR for a sub because PLD will probably be my main attacking job.

I think I'll be waiting a long time now before becoming a SMN because to unlock the other summons you need level 7 fame in the cities that you unlock that summon so that means lvl 7 fame everywhere and I dont even have any fame yet.

Today has been a very frustrating day for me. With the maintinance on all morning (and now this second one on all evening) I spent a lot of time browsing FFXI sites trying to make decisions on what to be later on in the game.

I have changed my mind today so so many times.

First I was going to keep getting my BLM up to 15 and then WHM up to 30. Thats changed, now I'm just going to get my WHM up to 20, head to Jeuno and get my chocobo and then decide what to do next.

First I wanted to go a DRK but was put off by their very bad defence later on incase I feel like soloing anything

Then I wanted to be a PLD but was put off by their low attack power which could be annoying for farming

Then I went back to wanting to be a DRG just because of the AF but changed my mind after reading more about them again

Then I decided on MNK but changed my mind after finding out how hard it is for them to get PTs

Now I'm completely lost on what to do.

all of you must have been playing for a really long time... I'm so damn envious of all of you. I'm not good at any crafts (eh... mostly because I've not tried very much at all)
here's my status:
Got my warrior up to lvl 7 finally... takes me forever.
I'm poor as all hell.
the armor I have makes me look like some kinky Elvaan... er, what's the word for a male dominatrix? is there one? well, you get the idea.
I got a linkpearl to Dark Nation... er, yea.
and I'm in Ifrit Server... I'm guessing not many people are there.

I can't wait till 30, I get my advanced jobs, but that's not the half of it, by that time I'll be well settled in and can actually explore really well. I plan on taking up cooking and goldsmithing more actively then instead of lvling just cause I enjoy goldsmithery and food is just so awesome in this game, I make it a point to carry some stacks of pumpkin pies usually but I had to borrow a set of melon ones when I went to Kazham and they work just as good to me anyway cause I'm a RDM. I can't wait for cooking though, there really isn't a useless food item out there which is good.

Edit: I want to point out that my post count is the same number as the replies in this thread right now.

We Thieves were given a piece of candy, but it was taken away from us. I refer to the change on Hide + SANTA. It sounded REALLY good, but it follows the same rules as Hide.
The Change: Sneak Attack can now be done from any position if you're Hiding. Meaning that a SANTA can be done from anywhere now, once every 5 minutes.
The catch: It follows Hide's rules. If the mob can track by scent, or aggros to sound, it doesn't work if you have ANY hate whatsoever. It can be done just fine until you have any amount of hate. Then it doesn't work. Unless of course, it aggros solely to sight. But who levels on Goblins, Yagudo, or Tonberries?
At least we can pvp now. I'm gonna be glad Pashow Marshlands isn't used on Leviathan. You can hear people coming so much better then in Jugner, so I might actually get targetted ^^. I plan on Hiding and assassinating BLMs, or SANTAing into other people's fights. Mind you, I know the duration is random. Maybe I'll Tonko for the invis, then Hide when the time is right.

Wee. Mannequin quest sucks, especially when the people I'm trying to do it with go afk for two hours. Stupid bastard. Anyway.

First off. DRK defense doesn't suck. DRK can actually solo decently, and solo skillup very efficiently. DRK have access to all of the heavy armor. Why do DRK get hit so hard? Because they're using their skills. Last Resort drops your defense. Berserk (you SHOULD be subbing war until 60) drops your defense. Soul Eater costs 10% of your life per hit. drk/whm, works quite well for soloing, given you have plenty of mp to heal yourself with, and you have some debuffs to play with (slow, absorb spells, dia, etc). However, drk don't often solo, because in most cases it's not worth it, you CAN, but why, when in the time it takes you to solo two crabs you could have chained 5 in a good group? In all honesty, no matter what job you choose, aside from red mage, ninja, beastmaster, don't expect to solo anything. You will die if you try to solo for exp, period. The game is not designed at all with soloing in mind, and it's in such a way where it pretty much doesn't even work beyond a certain point.

PLD isn't meant for attack. Once you start farming things, your attack isn't an issue. You're talking about killing level 30 mobs at level 50+ to grind items. You're going to hit them hard anyway. It's just easier for heavy melee with multi hits because just about every other mob is instant death. However, most heavy melee don't have mp or methods of healing themselves, so they have to take a break, where you've got all your hp, plus all of your mp. Dark is the exception, who can go out of their way every now and then to fight something other than a tiger to aspir it for mp.

MNK is freaking awesome, hands down. People don't realise this until high levels. It's not that monks have a hard time getting groups really. True, they have horrible chain ability, but they have insane damage to make up for it anyway. The problem is, there are so many more drk and drg that they're just more likely to get an invite by population. Another reason is because people are freaking retarded and think "omg monk isn't advanced, it can't be good, I'll get the DRG!!11" --'

Monk are necessary for true success like 68+ though. The entire endgame grind is on skeletons (there are other options, but skeletons are the best/easiest-- if you have a monk). Two monks can chain some insane damage on the skeletons, because not only are they strong vs undead given crush damage, but their not so chainfriendliness becomes a godsend with Lv3 Light.

And just a personal gripe, I hate the 'santa' acronym, haha. I'll stick with calling it s/t or snk/trk. THEY KIDNAPPED SANTA. THAT DOES NOT ROCK.
...hate.

Why do DRK get hit so hard? Because they're using their skills.

Exactly. I'd rather have consistent, good damage. DRK tend to go.. miss.. miss.. miss.. SOUL EATER.. WTF that mob crumpled me like a piece of paper. Plus, they're uber slow. I dunno. I just dont see why people think DRK are so cool. They annoy me.

All of my experiences with DRK have been awful, so I'm biased.

I should probably level up WAR first though.. they make the best subs for MNK right?

Yeah, I hear having WAR for a sub is probably the best choice. I've leveled up a WAR to 5 (I'm lazy =p) so far, so I can sub it when I reach 18 with my MNK.

War is definitely the best sub for mnk, but like drk, they can get away with subbing thf high levels as well. Two words:
Dragon. Kick..

Oh, and a drk that gets hit sucks at his job. Most drk suffer from the hard to dispute "majority of players are idiots" generalization. They decide since they have Berserk, Last Resort, and Soul Eater, they have to stack them all on top of eachother and do like +50 damage and then get raped or make the healers hate them for being retarded. Skilled drk pay attention to hate and know when they should and shouldn't go for a stacked attack. Normally they will cycle from berserk to resort to soul eater back into berserk. This way they consistantly do better damage, as opposed to better damage every here and there with a side of goblin rape.

The chocobo quest is so boring <_<

I just temp logout and minimize playonline inbetween each feeding of the chocobo, I've done 2 days so far, I should be done within a few hours.

After this I'll be getting theif up to 15 for farming and then I'll be working more on clothcraft, I want to get to around level 20 in that soon.

After that I'll probably get warrior up to 37 for my MNK

The best part about leveling up WAR now is that it will still make a good sub for a lot of jobs in case I decide to change again... and I know I probably will change my mind a million times before then anyway :P

I think I'll work on some fame quests aswell soon for when I decide to start leveling up Summoner. To do the level 20 prime battles I need level 7 fame in the town for that summons quest which means for all the summons I'll need 7 fame in all towns.

I did Teleport-Mea last night, apparently the torches are in the bottom areas, so it actually would be really easy for anyone with sneak to solo. At 60 nothing down there even aggroed me, so I just ran around freely clicking on things until I found the ???. After a trip back to Windy and then a trip to Sandy, I put the item up on AH and went to try and quest Dem. I actually didn't have enough Bastok fame...so I need to find a way to grind Bastok fame high enough for Teleport-Dem, given that it's a cake quest. Though, instead of grinding fame, I decided to try for Teleport-Yhoat, I partied with my friend and we went to Yuhtunga to destroy the lizards endlessly. As soon as we got there we split up to cover more ground and the first thing he finds happens to be none other than Mischevious Nicholas. Lv55 NM Monkey that drops a rather nice dagger. As soon as he saw it he told me to run over there, so I headed over there and apparently a thief showed up and was running for it. My friend being a monk chi blasted it. I was almost there, but not quite. We were both subbing thf, so he was having a lot more trouble than he normally would have, ended up hitting 2hr and still losing right as I got there. Without thf sub I wasn't able to provoke it off of him, so I did the next best thing-- Blade: Jin (3 hit x2), but that didn't pull hate, and friend died. I ended up having to solo the monkey. It was night time, and I have rather nice evasion gear (check =p). +29 evade, I have a 5 level advantage, that monkey couldn't even hit me. So I blinded him even further with kurayami, and just kept shadows up for the few hits that did come through, as he did hit for ~90 per, and attacked fast. Soloed him and made it look easy, haha. I love ninja. No drop though, he just spammed us with fruit. As for the Yhoat quest item, one dropped, and we gave up. So I'm about to go camp it again.

I bought all my Arhat's equip for when I get to 63-64 using the money I got from selling Teleport-Mea. I soloed a Tough crab in Kuftal Tunnel the other day out of boredom. It proved a challenge, but I won and got 200xp and a coffer key, which I promptly ran off to find a coffer, got a stupid 2k gem. ><

Quick FAQ~*

Is Fishing Gear worth it?
Yes. Great investment. Better chance at bites = faster leveling.

Will I make money?
This guide is for fastest leveling. If you want gil, just haul out the insect paste and go to any moat carp area for quick gil, because they sell like crazy. (Recommended areas: Rabao, Port San d’Oria)

Moonphases?
Full moon + New Moon = your best friend.

New Moon (~0%) -> Waxing Crescent (~25%)
Waxing Crescent (~25%) -> First Quarter (~50%)
First Quarter (~50%) -> Waxing Gibbous (~75%)
Waxing Gibbous (~75%) -> Full Moon (100%)
Full Moon (100%) -> Waning Gibbous (~75%)
Waning Gibbous (~75%) -> Last Quarter (~50%)
Last Quarter (~50%) -> Waning Crescent (~25%)
Waning Crescent (~25%) -> New Moon (~0%)

Time of the Day?
Dawn and Dusk = more bites overall. Night = more bites than daytime.

Days of the week?
Lighteningday/Dark day seem to be the worst for me. X_X

* * *

Lvl 1-5:
Carbon Rod + Little worms ----> Knight’s Well Lake in West Ronfaure
You will mainly catch crayfish. They don’t sell too poorly.. but if you are leveling cooking at the same time, keep them and use them in an early meal. Your rod will break if you snag rusty equipment in the castle.. I dont THINK the Knight's Well has armor. Very (very very very very) rarely a log may snap your rod. Dont worry about this. If it happens.. >_>; Well, now you know what did it.

And no, you're not crazy. Fishing sucks in the very beginning. Freaking freaking slow.

Alternate: Carbon Rod + Sabiki Lure ----> Selbina or Boat stairs.
Bastor Sardines and Quus. Quus can be sold, while the Sardines are recommended for cooking or Tokaka’s quest in Windurt’s fishing.

[Level 8 – Bring a moat carp to the Fishing Guild for the first skill cap test]

Lvl 5-11
Mithran/Composite Rod + Insect Paste ----> Knight’s Well Lake in West Ronfaure
Moat Carp. ALWAYS sell these for 4k a stack, or give them to an Elvaan brother in Port San d’Oria for the Lu Shang’s fishing rod quest. I recommend selling them if you’re poor, and turning them into the brothers ONLY if you plan to be an uber fisherman someday and don't need the gil. 10,000 moat carp is a freaking lot, so every little bit you turn in helps.

Lvl 11-18
Mithran + Fly Lure ----> East Ronfaure or Ghelsba Outpost
Ghelsba has monsters, but East Ronfaure has newbies that ask you lots of fishing questions. Up to you. If you’re lvl 15, you can probably take the pugils you’ll fish up in Ghelsba. Cheval Salmon and Shining Trout are what you’ll catch, and they sell pretty damn poorly. But your skill will raise veeeery quickly. I think it is worth it.

[Level 18 – Bring a Cheval Salmon to the Fishing Guild for the second skill cap test]

Lvl 18-32ish
Mithran + Frog Lure ----> La Theine Platue magical lake @ L-10
You’ll catch Catfish (250 at a vendor), Red Terrapin (Woo, 700-800 at a vendor) and Rusty Caps (2000 gil at the AH). (I ignored Dark Bass, I barely got any.) Just empty out your inventory, and fish here for a while. If you’re a mage, warp back to San to sell the caps, chocobo back to the lake, repeat. Or just sell the fishies next door in Selbina at the fishin guild. Nice profit + fast fishing skill leveling. I hear that if you have a water barrel in your mog house, you get more rusty caps. Those have such a nice profit. <3 The lake is pretty quiet.. so I like it.

There are monsters here too.. so be careful. Yeah. A little tougher than the surrounding monsters in La Theine. If you watch the big-small sweat ratio and memorize what sweat looks like when you catch monters, you'll be fine. If you hook a monster, just dont hit anything and it'll be set loose.

^^ Just tell me where you are in fishing, and I'll drag you to the fastest places to level it. :)

What the hell, I'll just copy and paste some info I typed up for my LS forum. :P

Rinlocke’s 5-Minute Fishing Guide
This guide is meant to show you how to ‘powerlevel’ fishing. It can be a pain, but if you know where to go, it’s not too bad. This is from my experience.. so if you find a better way, please share and I can test/update this.

Extended fishing forum (because I am SO not an expert):

Best fishing database (that I use ):

New Moon (~0%) -> Waxing Crescent (~25%)
Waxing Crescent (~25%) -> First Quarter (~50%)
First Quarter (~50%) -> Waxing Gibbous (~75%)
Waxing Gibbous (~75%) -> Full Moon (100%)
Full Moon (100%) -> Waning Gibbous (~75%)
Waning Gibbous (~75%) -> Last Quarter (~50%)
Last Quarter (~50%) -> Waning Crescent (~25%)
Waning Crescent (~25%) -> New Moon (~0%)

Time of the Day?
Dawn and Dusk = more bites overall. Night = more bites than daytime.

Days of the week?
Lighteningday/Dark day seem to be the worst for me. X_X

* * *

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!! <really big hug>

<runs off to fish>

LOL, no problem! ^^ Just remember that:

- a Carbon/Glass fiber rod is around 4-5k
- a Composite or Mithran will run you around 8-10k but never ever break if you follow my guide
- Little Worms are dirt cheap at the vendor
- Insect paste is like 300-400 a stack. Cheapest in Windurst if you find people selling from their bazaars. Or be like me, and make friends with a high level cook. ;)
- a Fly Lure is around 1-2k
- a Frog Lure is around 4-5k

A little bit of an investment, but it goes a LONG way. I'll update the fishing guide after I check out some more places around 32-40 level range and 40-50 level range. ^^

XD I'm such a freak and totally enjoy fishing. Beats farming. >_>; Fishing is -the- way for mages to make money. :) A friend of mine goes:

1- Teleport to Holla.
2- Go to La Theine Lake @ L10 with Rouge Rig. (Catches 3 fresh water items/fish at once, but it's only really affective around lvl 40-50 fishing.)
3- Fish up Rusty Caps.
4- Warp back to San d'Oria, sell stuff in AH.
5- Teleport to Holla, repeat.

Also, totally become a member of Marissa's forum. ^_^ She is a lvl 100 fishertaru, and she knows tons and tons.

I hate levelling my sub's sub, but it was necessary. WAR is so BORING outside of a party. And so dangerous. And the only easy soloer is always taken (Dirty JP bastards farming for Zinc!). But I got it 10, so I can let Ninja and Monk hit 20. Having dual subs is a bit of a *****, but it's worth it. I don't want to have to spend money to farm properly, dammit. Besides, Higher level LS thieves wish they'd levelled H2H, if only for the fighting of skeletons. Anyway, I figure my Poison Cesti should be fine for now, because they seem to poison often (I've been playing with them just to be sure, and the activation rate was enough for it to be pleasing to me). Judging by the rate, once a mob is the minimum, to me. No one seems to cast poison anymore, so I'm the only one poisoning in parties anymore -_- .

level 8 theif now... its starting to get really slow again <_<

I dont think I'll bother with getting Warrior up to 37 after I'm done getting theif to around 15 - 18, its too much effort and I'm still not 100% sure I'll even need it leveled up.

I'm just going to spend a lot of time farming and clothcrafting now and then I might just get WHM up to 30.

I've also decided to start up fishing, I need the money badly and the guide Aelice posted seems like it isnt too after the first few levels.

Thief is really slow until 10, and even then, if you're not lucky, it will remain slow. I lucked out and got a lot of groups. It will take either pity or stupidity to get groups between 10-14. I personally invite Thieves that are seeking at those levels, if the group is low enough levelled, because I remember the experience.

In other news, my subs are being levelled. Ninja is complete, now I need to boost Monk up. Soon as that hits 20, to Crawlers Nest I go. And at 40, AF1.

I started mining today. In Gusgen no less. I took three stacks of pickaxes with me for my first time. 6000G spent on them. I spent around 30,000G on all the mining gear. After about two hours of mining, and helping Ihsotik get his new skull, I returned with 4 darksteel (6000ea.), 7 lightning clusters (farming elementals down there too, haha-- 1200ea.), 7 zinc ores (since I'm mining, I think I will do the zinc fame for my mule so I can sell utsusemi, woo), and 1 dark rock (1500g).

So, for my first time mining, I broke pretty much even, next time I go it's alllll profit. :D

Also cleaned up my safe/inventory better, so next time I go I can carry back a much larger haul.

I HATE leveling up theif now, its just NOT worth all the hours of leveling >_<

I cant be bothered going all the way to 15 just to farm yaguto necklaces for my clothcraft... I farmed for around an hour in Giddeus as my lvl 20 WHM and got 3 necklaces, 10 beehive chips and 5 honey. How much of a difference would treasure hunter of made? I wish I had theif subbed though for gilfinder, all the Yagutos were giving me pretty decent money and steal might of been useful if it can get me more necklaces.

I'm just going to start working with my BLM again for a while when I login tomorow morning and start getting that to 15 for when I get WHM to 30.

I've been reading so much about all the jobs and changing my mind all the time and I've worked out that the only way I can really decide which job to go is to try them out. So I'll be getting WHM up to 30 so I can do any advanced job and I'll be getting WAR up to 10 as a sub for the melee jobs I want to try out, this way I can atleast tryout PLD, SAM and DRG... I know DRGs arent great but I still want to try one out someday.

I get a drop a kill as a THF, from the Yagudo. The others are slightly less giving, but still fast drop rates. And on the offchance steal succeeded for you, you'd get Silver Beastcoins, for good cash.

Micheal: If DRG sucks so much, why does the Full AF Ninja in my LS like them so much? In terms of melee, he likes getting a DRG/WAR and a THF/Whatever works. This means a minimum of 3 SANTAs a fight with safe aggro control, assuming it lives so long. Don't get me started on Scar (Admittedly, he's biased, but hey, who isn't?).

Michael
July 3rd, 2004, 09:59 AM
santa..so..lame.
And uh, ahahaha. If you're doing three s/ts a fight, that's not good. DRG do make excellent trick buddies, I believe I have said that before. However, that isn't going to make or break your party at all. It's a nice little perk, but it's nothing amazing. I'm a ninja, I've played dragoon, and honestly, I don't care for it. If we have one, that's fine, if we don't, there's no loss. The way ninja holds hate, drg isn't even necessary. Every PT I've had on ninja with a thf, I've had a very high damage class with me (read: not dragoon ;p -- monk or ranger. I haven't partied with a drk in so long, and I don't care to either). This means, even with me spamming ninjutsu, even with a s/t at the start of the fight after my assist provokes, he'll have enough hate over time to provoke it off of me enough for the thf to land another s/t on me. 90% of the time with a ranger/thf combo, the ranger pulls hate instantly with Sidewinder/Slug Shot, and the thf puts it right back on with s/t viper/dancing. What's that? Sidewinder 900? Slug Shot 1100? Penta Thrust 200? And there aren't any chains worth doing with it? (That's too bad.) So we can do a skillchain for near 2000 dmg including effect... or we can watch the gimpy drg a) double thrust / vorpal thrust for terrible damage compared to their potential b) "penta spam" post patch, which is just terribly depressing to think about. Pre-patch drg were a much more viable option, becuase it didn't matter that you couldn't chain with them for crap, they could easily get 3 pentas per fight. Even rather fast fights you could penta three times easily (if you know how to use jump).

For me, it's been so very long since I've seen fights need more than two s/t. Usually one of them involves a skillchain that overall drops the mobs hp by half. Right now my static is nin/war war/nin(thf and sam available) war/nin(thf available) brd/whm whm/blm blm/whm. We're still fighting things that are weak to distortion (something drg sucks at until 60) so we're doing Blade: Chi > Rampage. Warrior dual wielding easily rampages for 900ish (5 hits x offhand damage + possible 11th hit). Rampages are quite consistant with double madrigal (penta would be too, but then you can't even chain with it WOO TRANSFIXION ;p Skewer was hardcore, it doesn't even need madrigal). Our other warrior does great axe breaks to weaken the mob at the start of the fight. Given they are both sub nin at the moment, if they happen to get hate, they have a good 6 shadows before anything happens. With bard doing carnage elegy, those 6 hits will take awhile. The only problem with hate in my static when they're subbing ninja is after our skillchain. There's just not much I can do just yet when they have like +12 enmity on each hit, and they hit a weaponskill that hits up to 11 times. I'm pretty much screwed as soon as that happens. So, we hold it off until the mob is at 50% life, because at that point, our chain will drop it so fast by the time it gets 6 attacks in, it's dead, and we just keep going. I've been with this static since 55, and unless someone went afk, I don't recall ever losing Chain #5.

In other words: Trick buddy, neato-torpedo, if that's how your party formation is going. Whatever floats your boat. Personally, I'd rather see the mob dead before I can even start to worry about hate. 90% of the time, dragoon isn't going to be the man to do it. Minimum 3 s/t a fight? Here's your reason why: post patch Dragoon.

As always, Dragoon = showy, fun job, nothing spectacular.

If you're gonna walk to Jeuno alone at lvl 20ish, go through the San d'Orian side (La Theine, Jugner, whatever's past it). I'm relatively certain that nothing there aggros to Sound, only sight. Well, maybe the tigers... Anyhoo, stay out of sight, and be extremely careful. Nothing there should be as fast as you (Except maybe Tigers. I never really fought them) so it shouldn't be TOO bad if you're aggrod in Jugner. The Bastok side has sound aggroing mobs, which are just plain nasty when you're sneaking past in an area of monsters too strong for you. They're aggro range is shorter, but they aggro in a 360 degree arc, so yeah. The stuff in the Windhurst side is all sight aggro, but Tabar beaks are pretty damned tough, and Skinks are faster then you. Oh, and just for ***** and giggles, almost everything on the other two routes aggros, except Leeches, Crawlers, and I think Beetles.

Make sure you have your Gausebit Grass before you go. It's cheapest in Bastok, I think, and it's definitely cheaper then in Jeuno, on our server at least.

Bastor Sardines and Quus. Quus can be sold, while the Sardines are recommended for cooking or Tokaka’s quest in Windurt’s fishing.

Bad bad bad bad bad idea. My rod broke twice. After the first time, I borrowed money from a friend, bought a new rod and rig, used 750 points for a scroll of Instant Warp. Warped to Selbina, began fishing, cause I think...14 fish...my skill went up 0.2, and my rod broke. -.-; Take that out of the guide for the sake of the children. ;-; I now have borrowed a friends Glass FIber Rod and now have to get a bunch of worms/insect paste so I can get to lvl 5 and start catching moatcarps to pay back my friend. -_- Then I need to fish more to get enough gil for a Composite Rod so that I can give the Glass FIber Back to my friend. So all that gets in the way of my getting Fishermans Boots and Pants (Slacks? Hose?) and new equipment and spells. x.x Fortunatly I'm getting the rods fixed so I can sell them, but I had to buy the light crystals, so that's more gil there. @_@ I take it you used worms and fished in the Knight's Well for your first 5 lvls. I'd suggest going to the fishing guild in WIndy, getting advanced imagery, and fishing of the dock with a good but not really expensive rod and tiny worms.

So wait, your taru named Twelve wasn't a mule? >>

Oh, and just a little addition on dragoons. Anytime I outright say "drg sucks," I'm not being as serious as you might think. I took my drg to 60, I do actually kind of miss it. But leveling it is waaaay too difficult, because most leveling post 55 tends to turn into statics. Pick up groups as a nerfed job is hard. I respect dragoons. I respect our local dragoon players. However, since that nerf, they are no where near as effective as they used to be. All of my arguments are moreso based on how I played before nerf, and how they play now. There's an honest difference between great, good, and suck. Sadly, drg fell down to the 'good.' You CAN do better in parties. It makes drg comparitively a lesser sought out class, but they aren't "bad" per se, because what makes any job "good" is how much fun you have playing them. It's just hard to have fun when you spend 10 hours a day with a (!) next to your name staring at the walls in Jeuno.

Ninja is just a lot of fun for me, I might pick up dragoon again later if they do something with it, but as they stand right now, they are comparitively weaker to other jobs of similar end goal (ie 2 handed heavy melee damage).

Anyway, I thought I might clear that up, because apparently too many people are taking the drg hate that goes around waaaaay too seriously, and I will admit I do feed that. For me it's mostly just bitterness that they killed a job I spent so much time leveling up. But at the same time it's acknowledging the weaknesses of it. In this thread my drg hate has focused on said weaknesses. Not too long ago someone in my linkshell, who's highest level character is a 44 paladin, decided to hate on the best parts of dragoon, and push them aside like they're nothing. Argue all you want with me, but I will always say that a dragoon's wyvern is the best two hour in the game. Especially with Spirit Link. Especially with the AF body that gives them regen. Most of the other useful 2hrs in the game are an "OH SNAP" click to save lives. Wyvern is a very consistant damage bonus, and fairly potent back up healer (200-300hp heal for 7mp (Yes, please.)) I love wyvern. Dragoon accuracy is as much of a problem as any other job. Dragoon base damage, with wyvern, is as much as a dark knight (people like to argue about that, but they aren't really paying attention. A dark knight at 60 when I played hit for ~90-110 dmg per swing, I hit for 60-80 dmg + wyvern 10-30. Downside being wyvern has potential to still miss even when you don't and you have a higher chance of getting something like 60+10 which still sets you behind). What sets them apart is weaponskills. Dark has potential for more damage in their weaponskills, because of their damage bonus skills, and because they do have a higher base damage. Since they don't rely on an external source for extra damage, when they do a weaponskill, they're always as full potential. Dragoon has to worry about how their damage does, as well as their wyvern's damage does. If their wyvern happens to be down, it's just all over. =p

If I want to kill things fast: ranger > warrior > monk > dark knight > dragoon. (Thief is omitted because they work a little differently.) It's something people will come to accept. Given, certain situations will blur those lines (flies? bats? drg = hardcore skeletons? monk or gun ranger, period.)

Dragoon isn't anywhere near the best class, but it's not a bad class. Honestly, there isn't a "bad" class-- they all have application. It just happens that summoners and dragoons have the least favorable application, because what they excel at is a flashy perk more than it is an effective boost(blinkga stoneskinga = flashy perk; double madrigal x double ballad = effective boost -- easy self hate management that tanks love = flashy perk; very clean and efficient ws that totally destroy mobs before a tank even has to worry about self hate management = effective boost). You can be very successful with a dragoon. But there are going to better party formations you can find that will be even more successful.

Fury

I'll definatly still try out dragoon some time after I get a job past level 30 just to see if I like them. I'd love to be a ranger though but I have no where near as much money as I would need so I'm thinking that I'll just level other jobs up while getting my clothcraft up and farm alot so that I can eventualy become one.

I'm like 400 away from leveling but since Im capped can't level, and it seems square loves to hate us by making quest items have a 0.0000001% drop rate.

But 50 was sort of my goal anyway, but I would still like to complete that quest. Still have to get a papyrus and the mold. -_-;

Are you on the Ifrit server?

Now I'm fishing with a Glass Fiber Rod (friends rod) in the Knights Well, unfortunatly both Crayfish and Moat Carp can break it. x3

<doomed>

Carbon and Glassfiber do break there, but rarely. :X (to me, at least >_>; ) To be safe, ALWAYS check out this guide:

I told ya the earliest levels of fishing are the crappiest. ;_; I really really recommend just getting a composite rod. That baby will last you to level 40 :)

Jeez, you level fast compared to me. I think I've finally gotten into the lvlling vibe, but groups elude me. I'm not sure whether to be proud of the fact that I can stand seeking in Jeuno for hours now. I'd just flat out head to Crawler's nest, but I might get invited to Garlaige still, since chaining 5 there seems like better (And easier) exp then hitting Chain 1 or 2 in CN. Then again, if there's a lot of people in Garlaige, we can never hit that chain, so it's really irrelevant.

I'm getting a Composite, waiting for a rod and my old Lizard Jerkin to sell. (I won't need any armor for a while and once I can start catching carp regularly I can buy more Beetle Gear. ^__^ Thanks for the guide too.

Maybe someone can help me out with this problem. On certain armor or in my case tarus there are black marks/scratches on his head. Only see it with the type of taru I choose. Would anyone happen to know the cause of this? or a fix? Or why am I seeing it? ><

I now know why so many people hate valkurm... I had the worst tank EVER in my party today at level 10.

This guy didnt know how to reach us or use the map which he wasnt sure if he had so someone had to come and get him and bring him to camp. Then when asking who was pulling he asked what that was... then he didnt know what a tank was, all he said was 'i know how to use mighty strikes' I explained all these things very clearly and told him that he needed to provoke as much as he could so the mages wouldnt get killed, he said he understood and then he decided to pull something. He got out a bow and said.. 'watch this, i'm good at long range' and then attacked a goblin ambusher and started running around in circles telling us to help instead of drawing it back to the camp, he died within a few seconds because we shouldnt be fighting that at level 10. The next battle I pulled and brought back to camp.. he didnt provoke and ran around A LOT while fighting it making it impossible to hit and he used his 2 hour at the start of the fight. I could tell he didnt have a lock on the enemy because of the way he was running, the WHM got killed and then after we finished it off he said he was trying hard to kill it.. even though he was running away from it most of the time <_<. Then the leader disbanded the party

Worst party ever >_<

Luckily though within a few minutes he re-invited me and most of the members from earlier except that warrior and we got a WAR/PLD so after that it was a good day ^^

I got a Composite Rod. Now I can start catching Moat Carps. A member of my LS went overboard while synthesizing insect paste balls...so he gave them to me. And I have enough free bait to catch me a lot of moat carp. Then I can FINALLY get to lvl 30. Well...after killing the Bastok Dragon and getting those damn keys. o_O Then I can level my THF to 15 and incase I need to farm. I'm just wondering DragonRebornLee, how'd you get the money for the all spells/armor between lvls 20 and 28? It starts getting costly around there. >_<

I got that beat.

In Quifim, and this is a true story, was in a PT with a WHM that decided fighting would be good, not to mention the fact they had WAR as a sub, they PROVOKED a Goblin and tanked it, shouting for me to heal them. Now we had a perfectly good WAR that could Provoke all of started to scream at him to stop but he wouldn't eventually he did die, and BLAMED ME. He got pissed and left saying: "You guys don't know how to play."

Yes, in a word, douche.

LOL DRL ^^ When I get my new computer (my old one crashed), expect LOTS of FFXI art from me. *_* I owe a Mithra art, an Elvaan MNK, a hume RDM, and I can throw in another RDM. ;) I'm also working on a picture of Aldo. I have all of this pent-up creative energy.. Argh.. must install PS on SOMETHING! *so deprived* CGing takes a while, though. :| If you guys are happy with pencil/ink sketches, I can spew out temporary gift arts really quickly. :P

I was doing NIN quest last night but I had to logout after we killed the leeches. C_X;; At least I can Sneak/Invis myself to Norg.

No, I beat all of you. Even my LS was horrified, and other players in the game dont believe me. I met a newbie Japanese player in Valkurm Dunes. Everyone in my PT was all, invite him, he's JP. I was like.. no sub? O_o; But the leader did anyways. .. even after explaining that he was the only one with provoke (13 WAR) and must tank, we died after the first pull because he was afraid of getting hurt. >_< WTF?

I tried out the Fishing Mogenhancement (put 20 buckets in your mog house and it activates it O_o). I dont recommend this unless you need rusty caps for gil. :P My skillups went much slower.

I got 4 levels today. I haven't slept for roughly 24 hours. I'm at 39 right now. I'd update my Allakhazam info, but I'm lazy, and will wait till I have my AF1. I also have the money for my Brigandine, and probably a new off-hand, if it's necessary. I'm going to have to level my subs again, because God DAMN did I level Thief fast.

So yeah, just so you know, the standard levelling spots after this are Garlaige Citadel (33-37), followed by Crawlers' Nest(35-???). You can level in Crawlers Nest for a LONG time, but there are other places to go. Ask Sulfure for a better list, because he knows those spots where the JP grind, and they're apparently effective. For instance, a part of 38s-40s fought in the entrance to Gustav Tunnel (I'll show you where it is, when you're high up enough). It was nice. No competition, nice easy mobs, good exp... And then people showed up. We got to our goal (1 level for every person in the group) then broke paths. I now have my AF Dagger and its Dex/Agi bonusses in my hand. Well, not literally, but you get the idea.
Now that I've got my AF1, I feel I am no longer a noob. That means it's time to stop avoiding it and start getting the most pimp gear I can think of. I have a FEW limits (Paying 200k instead of 20k for one point of Agi is too much, IMO), but I will start pimping out my Gear. Here's how the expense sheet looks on my server
Main: Marauder's Knife Free (+9k for current)
Sub: Mithran Scimitar 52k (Keeping my Small Sword)
Head: Emperor's Hairpin 250k (+10k for current)
Ear1/2: Drone Earrings 30k (+2 k for current)
Ring1/2: Deft Rings 100k (Keeping Balance Rings)
Back: Nomad's Mantle 20k (+9k for current, x2 since I'm doing the quest for it)
Leaping Boots: 250k (+10 for current)
And if we add in all expenses to 50, I figure I might as well pop in another 20k for Shihei, another few k for new weapons, and such, we come to a grand total of:
673k (173 if I get my own Boots and Hairpin)
A winner is you! I'm gonna see if I can convince my LS to do some BCNM 20s, since I got a Monk for that, or at least, I will soon. Anyway, sorry for taking up so much space for my troubles.

Oh, and Hiko, I have forboding news: Most of the mages said "Who?" when I said you and Maddy were both the LS' Samurai. However, I will not give up. I WILL get those items and hit at LEAST 51 within the next 3 months! I will not give up on this. And then, I'm gonna help you and me both get our AFs.

Minor note: According to Belle, getting people to agree to Coffer Hunts is easy. Advertise it as a (Skill) (Up) (Coffer) (Key) (Party) and you'll get enough people. People like skilling things up, I guess. And if it makes you feel better, the coffer I get my AF from is a very hunted coffer, because it gives Astral Rings, a 250k drop. So you get your laughs too.

Garlaige Citadel to about 34. (bats, beetles)
Eastern Altepa Desert to 35~36 (beetles).
Crawler's Nest to 38 (crawlers, nest beetles)
Gustav Tunnel to 41-42. (bats, flies, goblins)
Western Altepa Desert to 46-47. (beetles)
Western Alepta Desert entrance to Quicksand Caves to 50-51. (beetles, antican)
Crawlers Nest to 50-51 (crawlers)
Kuftal Tunnel to 54-55. (crabs)
King Ranperre's Tombs to 56-57. (beetles)
Boyahda Tree to 56-57. (crabs, crawlers)
Gustav Tunnel to 60-61. (crabs, goblins)
Cape Terrigan to 60-61. (crabs, fish, raptors)
Valley of Sorrows to 61-62. (raptors, peryton)
Labyrinth of Onzozo to 63-64. (torama)
Boyahda Tree to 66-67. (crabs)

Anyway, notice you'll fight a lot of crabs and beetles. The King Ranperre's Tomb camp no one ever goes to except bst. I was taken there by a jp group, it's really nice as long as there isn't a bst around. Everyone knows about Gustav Tunnel these days, just no one likes to go there because it's out of the way vs. Nest. I like to make it a point to go there in pts at that level. There are other mobs you can fight at different levels in some of those places. Namely spiders in Quicksands and spiders in Boyahda, but fighting spiders sucks, especially if your tank is a paladin. Sickle Slash is insane.

Skill Up parties can convince people to help you get key drops (you're a thf, and I take it you've only been doing dagger and sword... well, if you can boast that you have hth capped when you hit uppers 60s, you'll be very well received to skeleton parties, as hth destroys them), however, problem is some places are way out of the way and people don't really want to go all that way just for skill up. Oztroja, Beadeaux, Eldieme, Garlaige, all REALLY easy places to get people to skill up-- however key drops can be so rare, it might take you three or four runs of you organizing the party before you actually get the key. There was a pld on my server shouting for Beadeaux for three weeks straight, gwahahaha. Temple of Uggalipeh, Sea Serpent Grotto, Toraimarai Canal, Castle Zvahl Baileys, Ifrit's Cauldron are all places that it's not necessarily easy to convince people to go to. For keys like that you still have to advertise skill up, but hope people are kind enough to go all that way to help you with your key. Ifrit's is probably the worst key to have to ask for help with if you can't get a soloing bst to give you a key. Temple of Uggalipeh is almost as bad. Temple has dolls that will Meltdown and wipe out an alliance, but they're deeper in compared to the Volcanic Gas that will self-destruct on you in Ifrit's Cauldron. Both locations have bees that will Final Sting, which ignores blink shadows. And Tonberry can be mean with Throat Cut, which instantly does 90% of your current hp. Also, for every tonberry you get a deathblow for, you earn Tonberry's Rancor. A tonberry can use his rancor on you, and you'll take damage proportional to the ammount of rancor you have. There's a Zilart Mission where you fight tonberries, where the tank is guaranteed to die every time you do it, and he only drops 3 keys when you'll need for your whole party. His rancor adds up everyone in your party's rancor then hits the tank. Needless to say it's like 5000dmg-- good night.

Oh, and even with the contested coffers in Oztroja... it's so easy to get a coffer. Seriously, a coffer hunt in Oztroja is so straight forward, all you do is run up and down. You have sub ninja, so just bring a lot of shinobi tabi and make a macro that does perfect dodge > open coffer > warp scroll. As long as you have a form of invis, Oztroja coffer is cake. Might take awhile, but it's still easy. Hiko has to get a coffer from Temple of Uggalipeh. Meaning, he has to a) log his character at one coffer spawn and not even play except to check the spawn every 30m or b) get someone who is over level 72 to escort him to coffer spawns. Tonberry aggro sight, you can't open doors while invis. They are no longer aggro to someone over level 72, so you have them just run around and open doors for you while you keep yourself invis. I guess you could try to stealth ninja style down, but $10 says you get raped. Don't get me wrong, Oztroja coffer is a pain, but there are so much worse out there. Well, that and you're a thf. I've veto'd thieves ability to complain about getting coffer AF. You don't have to camp keys. You don't have to compete for rare key drops hoping your lot doesn't suck. You don't have to spend hours on end each day to get keys that drop like genkai 1 items. You pick the locks. Your worst coffer is Oztroja due to competition because of people of your own job opening more coffers for Astral Rings. BOOHOO you have to compete for one coffer. BOOHOO thieves I know make 200k/4hrs. BOO-freaking-HOO. There's nothing that can make Hiko feel better about his AF, his AF isn't even that great, and it's probably the hardest to complete next to summoner (they also have temple key).

And just a random note, you probably love thf/nin, but I hope you're not opposed to leveling warrior. =p You have a significantly higher damage potential with it, as well as if you do take the hth path when you fight skeletons in the final grind to 75, you'll attack like crazy. It's pretty intense when you watch someone attack hand to hand getting at least six attacks in a round with such high damage. Six dagger scratches thf/war thf/nin is neat, but it doesn't have much to show for it, hth does.

I'm sorry, did you just mock me for attempting to comfort someone (And apparently failing, given that task list.) Did you just mock me for not being some Godly player? Did you just imply that any Thief worth his salt should be doing the same 200k in 4 hours? I never once said mine was as bad as his. I know full well what's in Castle Oztroja, and just how easy it is to get around them. I appreciate the tips, but not the tone they came in.

On a note I care about more: Hiko, before was bad, but this... is just plain rediculous. Don't worry about coming back unless you want to. A task list like that is just... rediculous.

Michael
July 6th, 2004, 10:58 PM
First of all, I wasn't mocking you specfically. I was mocking theives in general. Note that I did generalize thieves before I said anything. "I've veto'd thieves ability to complain about coffer AF." The following "yous" refer to said topic of thieves overall.

Now you specifically, are in your 40s right now. Wait until you get higher. Seriously. It has NOTHING to do with being a godly player. It has EVERYTHING to do with being a patient player, and taking thief to at least 60. I promise you, when you make 60 and you decide you want to make some money, it will roll right in when you want it to. I'm a ninja. I'm a dragoon. The best I've done is 100k in an entire day, that's from mining, and doing non-repeatable quests. Coffer hunting isn't skill, it's patience, it's luck. I personally tend to have rather good luck with coffers, which I use to help people find their coffers. I've helped people a few times find their coffers in Oztroja (even another thf who refuses to camp coffers because he's lazy, and admits to it =p). I've helped people find them in many places because I do understand it is a hassle that is made easier by having multple people. But in all honesty, there is no way I'm going to let a thief complain about openning a coffer. Again, wait until you're higher. Wait until you help people actually camp keys in Oztroja. Wait until you see how many jobs need that same coffer you do, and REQUIRE a key. Wait until you see how many keys drop in a five hour camp, when 7 people came to get a key. Let me put it this way: Across two jobs I have helped in Oztroja at least five times. Now, most key groups are also skill up, so everyone is getting something regardless, and people usually don't just randomly leave for this reason. Key groups stay together for hours. Maybe five hours per hunt, though I have done longer. That's at least 25 hours of my /playtime spent in Oztroja camping keys. You know how many keys I've seen drop in those 25 hours? Six. I can only recall six keys dropping in my presence. One of those parties was recent on my ninja. Not a SINGLE drop in four hours (haha ninja gkatana skill up rules). Other parties I've seen two drop in less than an hour and then never again for the next three when one guy has to leave and suddenly so do like 10 other people. Now figure about the people who need to open that same coffer you do, and they have to use the key. Red Mages, Bards, Dark Knights. Not only do they spend hours upon hours forming skill up parties, then hours upon hours camping keys (unless they're extremely lucky), and THEN have to do the same thing you do.

Give it time. You'll understand why I don't like to hear thieves lament about the mere coffers themselves. You'll understand in due time, trust me. You'll see how easy thieves have it for popping them open, for making money. You'll see how having the patience to level thief will pay off, and I will congratulate you. A few of my friends play high level thieves, and they are able to toss money left and right for some of the best gear on anything else they want to do. It's not because they are godly players, they're average thieves, they don't do anything better than your general thief. It's pure and simple: they are thieves. One of my friends quit his thief at level 58 to become ninja, he's the same level as my ninja. Think he ever has to cancel a PT because he doesn't have money to pay for the day's shihei like I have? One of them is a ranger. Know what happens when he runs out of money for arrows? He goes to play his 56 thf. One of them was dragoon, quit at 51, got thief to 63, and quit that to level warrior now. He hasn't sold any of his thief gear. Guess who has one of the best equipped great axe warriors for his level? Me and my thf>nin friend always go back and forth about strategies, leveling spots, comparing gear, etc. We're both evasion whores (some nin focus evade other's focus atk). Some of the gear the wears I can only drool over, because he has no problems with money. For me to afford some of the things he has, I would have to quit leveling all together for two weeks to not only fund ninja tools in the future, but to also fund said items. +enmity jewelry is freaking expensive, and I've been a gimp ninja this entire time not buying any of it, because I simply can't afford it, and I don't think it's worth it for me to spend THAT much time farming for something I'll replace in a few levels anyway. Lucky for me if I need the help with hate post static war/nin going war/thf, I have full Arhat's, which wasn't that expensive.

You're going to pinch every penny, sell every piece of scrap you can until you get there, but once you do, you'll never have to think twice. You will be able to outfit any job you want in the best gear available and laugh about it. Again, it has nothing to do with godly player-- unless you want to consider the patience of leveling thief and making said money "godly." You're already well on your way, I can't even find the patience to get my thf past 24. ><

Now if you do want to be empathetic and dread your own AF, dread AF3/boots. Jesus christ, that bomb hit my Lv60 Dragoon double for 514, instantly killing him from near full hp. I think my max hp was ~1180 (drg/sam pre patch, I thought I was going to be the hot stuff penta spamming him...haha bad idea). We had to clear the skeletons before we spawned the NM himself, and the drain aoes brought me down enough for those 514s to hand me. We had to fight it five times that night for five thieves. I died twice, and then refused to even WS anymore because it would make me lose my level. =p

Regardless though, nothing can/will change the fact that Hiko has grossly difficult AF quests that aren't even worth the reward. A lot of AF is trash these days, and it happens in games like this with demand for new content. One of the wars in my static right now has a 68 Samurai. He still hasn't even finished his AF. He didn't get his AF Body (Temple of Uggalipeh) until he was 66. He hasn't done AF3 yet at all. He has the right idea. Enjoy the game. Play the game and just have fun-- don't let unnecessary hassles get in the way of that. AF is not a requirement. You're not going to be a bad player for not finishing it as soon as you could, unless it honestly affects your job (Paladins suffer from this. Their AF3 is a pain, and nothing is more depressing than having a 60+ paladin not wearing full AF. Paladins are stuck in their AF until Adaman because the +enmity is literally that important). Samurai AF is more spiffy flash than anything else. I've been lucky to choose two jobs with AF that isn't hard to get, and is generally observed as wear-worthy AF. Sure as soon as I get 63/64 things are going to change. I don't wear my AF mask, I wear an emperor's hairpin. Come 63 I won't wear my AF gloves at all. I won't wear my boots at all when I'm exping. I won't wear my pants unless it's night time. If I need the enmity boost, I won't wear my AF body. Dragoons tend to replace their gear with the 60's leather armor, because it all has +attack, and they need that bonus. However, majority of samurai don't really wear any of their AF, unless to switch out for things. Like if a samurai actually eats riceballs, he'll want to put that piece of AF on before he does eat one. Samurai AF has a major downfall, which is the pieces having +enmity on them. A samurai at that level does not want hate. =p A samurai wearing those pieces of AF not only make it harder for themselves, but make it harder for their tank. Ochiudo's Kote I would say are specifically made for a samurai, they need that boost. If not kote, then the cp mufflers that are available. They also need the accuracy. I can't really think of any boots you would want off hand, but your boots aren't one of the grossly difficult pieces. Sadly the boots are the +5 enmity piece, which unless you're first provoke for a thf trick you don't really need. (Oh, and sam/thf at high levels is actually quite intense especially with skills like Yukikaze. When subbed, thf s/t damage bonus doesn't affect every hit, only the first. That's pretty much why drg/thf and mnk/thf are useless until you get the high level hard hitting single hit skills. Before then those jobs spam attacks (penta, raging) and subbing warrior yields better results (drg/war double attack penta is same thing as drg/thf sneak penta). Samurai in general is one heavy hit. Especially once you get to Yukikaze at ~60. Man, that skill does damage proportional to your TP. It doesn't vary with TP, it does directly proportional. x dmg per 1% TP-- one hit. Very nice damage period-- now guarantee that it hits and double it. Aaaaanyway...) body is easily replaced, namely by Master's Gi, as you'll want the accuracy. If you take the time to farm for it, you could get a haubergon, but that would be hardcore, haha. Head armor wise the AF3 is pretty good, give it enhances Meditate, but it's sort of one of those things you'd switch out accordingly. Samurai could still wear an emp pin and reap the benefits from that.

Samurai topic does remind me, though. There's a new Lv72 Great Katana that has Additional Effect: Drain TP. Oh my god that is so sweet. Ever since seeing that I've been thinking about leveling my samurai, haha.

When you mention all that in reference to my post, it REALLY looks like you're applying it all to me.

Michael
July 6th, 2004, 11:36 PM
Everything I just now said DOES specifically apply to you.

My original post was not specifically directed at you, but to thieves in general.

Nothing of what I just said is an exaggeration. When I say you will reap the rewards of having the patience for thief, I mean it. Like I said, I can't even sit on thief long enough to get FLEE. That would help me out so much, but I just can't find the patience to do it. I respect that you've made it as far as you have. I'll respect you more for taking it further. The game gets harder and harder as you get higher, because it becomes less casual. Most jobs are very difficult to level on a regular basis without a specific group of leveling friends. But it is worth it, especially for a theif. I also respect Hiko for taking samurai as far as he has, as it is one of the most overlooked jobs in the game, but I do honestly feel that his AF shouldn't stop him from enjoying the game. AF is only one small step, and for a samurai, it's not even an important step to success. I can understand a drive to complete it, that it respectable, but don't let it stop you from playing the game. Don't give up because you've got some hard things to complete. It's not like certain parts of the game don't open up if you don't finish your AF. They aren't related to anything else. Enjoy the game now. Deal with the pains of it later.

It all comes down to one point: you're level 40. This is not a bad thing, you are progressing at your pace, and if you keep at it you'll get there. However, I'm twice 60, I've experienced these things you are dreading, and I'm telling you: you fear the wrong things. =p I'm not a godly player. I'm an arrogant player, and I emphasize group effectiveness-- I consider myself experienced, and won't think twice to share my experience, but by NO means do I consider myself godly. I need lots of work for that. I'll be godly when I'm pimping some hardcore rare/ex gear, wielding the fully upgraded relic katana. XD

We all have hardships in this game. I'm playing an extremely expensive class and barely affording it. Actually, shihei has gone up from 4400G per stack to 4900G per stack. There were 62 stacks of shihei in a town where the average price two weeks ago was 4500 and I had to pay 4900 per stack. Now on top of that, I'm the tank, meaning I've basically said "when things go wrong, it's my job to die." And believe, me, I take that hit. To unlock sky, I'll have to do those Zilart missions I've mentioned. Ten bucks says that rancor attack ignores my shadows and I'm going to die doing that mission at LEAST twice. I'm guaranteed to die, there's nothing I can do about it. I can get a raise, but even a Raise 3 still carries exp loss. Now go more general. Dynamis. If you even get there, the drops are exremely rare. You also have to complete the initial ones to even open that later ones. Trust me, if Hiko comes back and finishes his AF and makes it to 75, he's going to say "AF WHAT?" Heh, each upgrade of the relic weapon will cost you millions at a time, on top of having to get some pretty intense drops. Byne Bills drop up there in different increments, normaly 1 and 100, theoretically there are chance 10,000 drops from the bosses of the hardest of dynamis, but never reported dropped (we know that it does exist in the game's code, just never dropped, much like the ninjutsu san line). Some jobs need like 16 100 bills to upgrade their weapon... 100s are almost always defaulted to the host of the dynamis raid. The 1s are free lot. Have fun getting 1600 ones. =p

Game isn't meant to be a cake walk, there are challenges, feel free to overcome them at your own pace. Some jobs might have it easier, but that doesn't make you any less of a player for taking your time.

Camping Coffers for Cash is too much like Camping Lizzy for cash to me: You're depriving people of items they can use for the sake of your checkbook. On the other hand, I dunno how many people can get that coffer on a whim.

Michael
July 6th, 2004, 11:51 PM
Problem is it's impossible to succeed in the game without making money, and whatever way you look at it, someone is getting shafted, heh.

Honestly, it's vicious cycle, and sadly, you can't do anything about it. Perhaps a samurai is camping lizzy so he can sell the boots to save up so he can buy the illustrious kote, because people are camping those to buy themselves a hauberk. It's depressing the game works that way, but there's nothing you can do about it.

Oztroja coffers are off and on though. They aren't ALWAYS camped by someone who needs them. While I do need money, if I were a thf, I would keep tabs on who is in the area coffer hunting. If I saw a bard, dark knight, or red mage seeking a coffer, I'd continue to look, and if they could make it, I would tell them where it is and help them get it. Now if they couldn't make it in time and I saw another thief making a mad dash for it who I knew didn't need it (thf tend to wear their pants, heheh), I'd pop it open before him. ;p

This is much in the same way where right now when I go to Gusgen to Mine, when I'm up top if someone asks me to help them get a skull for their subjob, I'll gladly help them. I do seriously need the cash (I have over a million gil in expenditures coming up soon, though at 65 I'm joining a NA HNM LS on my server-- that should get some money flowing enough to possibly get a scorp harness XD), but I will help others if they ask for it if it's not out of my way at the time.

[edit again horray, I have a nasty habit of adding things, and I don't like to double post ;p]
In EQ there were epic quests for a "godlike" weapon. Given they're totally worthless now, if you do them, it's just for the challenge of doing them, but anyway. Back when they were first added into the game, they honestly were hardcore weapons. The monk quest was a very painful one (though by no means the worst). One of the biggest problems with EQ was that quests were "multi-questable." This means one person could hand in half the items, and someone else could hand in the other half, and the last person to finish handing in the items got the credit for the quest. This created a widespread issue with greed. Monks who had already completed their epic weapon would camp drops of the part of the quest that were multiquestable, and offer to multiquest for hordes of money. In EQ, camps were respected. Meaning, if someone camped Raster of Guk, then he's camping Raster, period. You don't have 10 people competing over the first hit. Basically, a monk with his epic calls a camp, he gets that camp. When I needed the item, I couldn't ask him for the camp, he'd just laugh and tell me how much he wanted for the multiquest. In EQ most spawns are true random, meaning you could get the spawn twice in an hour, or you'd camp for seven hours and not see him once, it was TERRIBLE. Just can't get around greed. =/

But on a questing note: Even worse were other classes that needed drops from rotation encounters. Rotation encounters would be like FFXI HNMs... except they aren't open game. Every server had community calendar. The "uber" guilds would get together and determine the requirements for a guild to be allowed in rotation. Basically, a group of level 75s decide what it takes to overcome an encounter, they set the standard, and you would have to apply your linkshell to their standards to call something. Then you make a big list. So UberHyperLS wants to join the Simurgh rotation, but UberA, UberB, and UberC have requested it already. That means no Simurgh for UHLS until A, B, and C have had their chance. Now, if a LS doesn't show up within x time of Simurgh spawning, then it becomes a free for all, and that LS loses their turn. Imagine if Simurgh worked like this, and it dropped an item VITAL to your classes success. This happened with clerics in EQ. They had to join high level guilds and then wait in rotation for ONE item to drop per rotation of their guild and hope they got it. The Cleric Epic was an unlimited effect clickable raise that returned 100%exp. Meaning, if you were a cleric, you didn't have your rez stick, you were gimp as hell. Stuff like this in EQ spawned as far apart as one week, except after maintainence when they were up instantly. EQ was freaking harsh. =/

Heh recently there was a post on FFXIonline about someone trying to say the COP release for PS2 would be later than the PC version. I personally found that extremely hard to believe given if the content were to be released separately, no doubt Japan would see COP before the US. On the contrary it's a worldwide release, and EU gets their own local version now~

Random question: are there a lot of Germans on, uh, "you guys'" servers? On Odin we seem to have a LOT of germans. o_O

I am beginning to think Ill do fishing to gain some gil.
I absolutely hate farming. I tried doing tigers to get fangs, but sheesh with 3/15 drops.
And I hate leveling thief, its just as bad as war only weaker. I just cant stand it.
I would try crafting but that you have to put a ton of gil in to get anything out of it. It seems fishing is the one craft I can actually gain money out of right from the beginning (Skill Level 8/Recruit)

There's a Coqui on my server -_-. He's a roleplayer of the classification I don't like: The kind that sacrifices party effectiveness for their whims. He's a NIN/MNK that solely uses H2H. Need I say more?

Haha. I was skillup-ing hth as nin/mnk hoping someone would say something so I could try to defend it and keep a straight face. No one did though. ; ;

I just did the Qu'Bia Arena BCNM40 today... we made three runs, it's three man team. If we split everything down the middle--er three ways, we made 350k each. Buuuut, we bribed the rdm we took with us (everyone we knew was turning us down, now they're kicking themselves, and begging to come on our next runs, hahaha) with phalanx, so he got the first one. All in all though, 300k per person for 3 runs is quite nice. I have enough seals for three more runs, I'm doing more this weekend.

I was getting sick of leveling up THF today so I went back to windurst and started leveling up warrior, only got it to 6 before I decided to head back to Jeuno and work with my WHM again.

My BLM is at 12 now so I can get up to 25 now with my WHM which will be a good point to get to before stopping do do some other things. Rank 2: 3 mission is 25 cap so I'll stop to do that mission when I get to 25 and I'll have to stop to do the Kazham airship pass anyway..

I'll go back to my WAR after I'm finished with WHM just so I can have it there at around 10 - 15 as a sub for testing out other jobs later on.

I was behind with my WHM spells since I didnt leave valkurm much from levels 15 - 20 so I just spent around 25k on spells to get my up to date on it, it suddenly made me feel alot more powerful ^^

I'd like to go a ranger now after I get to 30 just because of the huge damage they do, being a WHM I'd like to have a job that is really stong... maybe I'll go a DRK then instead...

RPGuru1331

Uh, don't bother levelling Thief till you hit 30 and can sub Treasure Hunter. Also, either sub WAR or MNK as a Thief, and use Sword or H2H, respectively. It helps, to be honest. I remember hitting for 1s and 0s back in the dunes.

I'm gonna end up doing some BCNM 40s and 20s on Friday, for cash. I don't know which 40 we're doing (I only know that I'm actually useful there), and for the 20 one we're fighting birds in Ghelsba, and I'm taking MNK, because 100 fists owns.

Fenrir you have to get in the normal high level battle, and level 70+ parties die to him. You're gonna have to bribe the hell out of people (big monies) to get people to risk a 5 man Fenrir run, and it might take a few tries. =/

And the Lv20 battles are pretty hard. You're going to need plenty of money for yagudodrink/potions/etc. Basically, the way you win them is astral flow like 3 times per fight. You need mp regen like crazy, and you need the potions to make sure you don't die. =p

I just got the jp pol, but JUST pol is taking 45 minutes to update. ; ;
^- nevermind, it was because I was downloading other things too. Closed that and it dropped to 10m =p

Well, I guess I'm back in the saddle again. For now anyway. I got back on today and changed my job to my 15 monk and was planning on heading out to the dunes when I got an invite while I was looking around in the AH. I wasn't even seeking. The party was for the K. Tunnel. I've never partied there before, just went there to get to the desert and to get NIN. I went from level 15 to 18 there in a few hours then my party went to Qufim and I got to level 20, half way to 21 before I signed off.

What are the odds that the very first party I get into on my first day back AND while leveling a really low level job would be with people who are all rank 5 leveling their low level jobs who have all had like 70+ hours of playtime?

I had a great party today in Quifim and Delkfutts tower. Because it was around 6pm there were mostly Japanese players on so I was in a Japanese PT but it was THE BEST party I've ver been in. I got from 20 to 22 in only a couple of hours, I could of gotten further but I had to log out to have dinner...

There were 2 ninjas, a warrior, bard, BLM and me a WHM. 3 of them were rank 10 and the others 5 so they all knew what they were doing really well.

The best part was though that this party made me realise how much I love being a white mage so I'll probably stick with it all the way to to level 75. I also liked the ninjas so if I ever decide to level a melee job up it will most likely be ninja aswell ^^

Well, you can party with my Ninja. I'm at 20 on that, and need levelling. If you're going full out MNK we can party till 30, which DRL is at/near. I dunno if you intend for this to be a main or just something to do while you wait for me and him, but either way, Welcome back!
In other news, I made about 100k from all the BCNM 40s I did. The problem is that I have to wait for the stuff to sell... halfway to Leaping Boots, anyway.

Kazham sucks, I freakin hate that place. I tried lvling from 25 to 26 and got freakin nowhere. So I was going to give up and go solo or lvl my subjob, and got invited to a party going to Batallia Downs. Much better place. Nobody is there, and there is plenty of tough monsters with sabertooth tigers and gobs (we had a little trouble with a Goblin Shaman, little trouble in that he killed most of our party, but we did kill him). We were all 24-25 when we started and used a whtm, warr, ninja, blkm, pal, and thief. I am falling in love with paladins. It really helps the other tanks concentrate on whacking the monster down

I'm incredibly skeptical to this "moderator" business. I just find it odd that after nearly 100 days of sitting infront of my computer and playing my character (yes, my /playtime is getting very close to a total 100 days, and I've only left my character logged in over night or while I was out a few times, maximum 3 days worth of away time. Oh the joys [and woes] of having no life. ;p), I have never once heard of a "moderator." I find it odd they make no mention of a server moderator in the manual, or on the site. Nor do they offer ways of becoming a so-called moderator. In searching the playonline website, there isnt' a single match for "moderator."

Now, a Game Master, or GM, on the other hand, would be a more believable prospect, however that also means you literally work for PlayOnline. Never once have I heard of a service for volunteer apprenticeship with GMs like they have in EverQuest with the Guide service. Had you come in here saying you were a GM, that would instantly be recognisable, and rather awe-inspiring to have you here with us. Of course, a GM would make it known, "I am a GM for FFXI." Why call yourself only part of your job, why call yourself something other than what everyone would know you by. It's like RPGuru deciding he's no longer a thief, he's a SWASHBUCKLER. And going around and saying HEY GUYS, I'M A LEVEL 45 SWASHBUCKLER. Or a warrior calling himself a barbarian berserker or something.

FORUM Moderator. I'll believe it-- but that's about as far as you're going to get.

Anyway~

Around how much money would I need to get to level 30 with Ninja?

After that I can farm a lot easier at level 30 with theif sub so I can find ways of making money then.. oh yeah.. what are Ninjas like at farming?

I also got theif to 13 today, close to 14. I'm finally nearly done with getting theif to 15 ^^ I would of been done sooner but I keep going back between doing other things like leveling up WHM in Quifim for a while.. then going to Valkurm as a theif... then back to Quifim again etc...

Those levels can always be a pain to get through. A lot of the time the parties will try to get a warrior with a sub job or high rank or pick a PLD instead because of bad experiences with low level warriors not knowing how to provoke.

RPG, you should look into the Qu'Bia Arena BC40. Same drops as the mandra one, and more... plus, there's only three people. Get your hand to hand skill up, find a ninja and a red mage, and just seriously screw that thing up, it's >really< easy. I fought it.. oh, 8 times and made ~600-700k, because we only had to split things three ways instead of six. ;p

It's ONE skeleton that just keeps reviving himself, so you fight him five times total. Make sure the ninja can use sword, and do Red Lotus Blade > Sneak Attack Combo. The red mage (if a taru, most preferably a taru), can burst fire, and it really helps if the ninja can also burst fire with katon:ni. First three forms are dark knight, and really easy, last two forms are blm, which are slightly annoying because of ga spells erasing all shadows. Each time he revives himself, he starts with less hp, by the last form he starts with only 75%.

The problem is getting to Fei'Yin and to the BC. For easiest passage need Vazhl Crystal, and sneak/invis all the way there at your level. Still, heh, I only say Giddeus not worth it because why go through all the trouble of getting six people (hard to do on a whim, especially skilled players you'd want to trust your life and loot with, haha), and have to split the loot 6 ways when you can pick up pretty much any decent ninja and red mage and totally destroy Qu'Bia 40 and split the same loot 3 ways? XD

RPGuru1331
July 14th, 2004, 12:28 AM
Why would I do that? Because I didn't know the Qu'bia one. And the only hard part for us was killing Mandys fast enough. Our Bard and RDM were good enough to Horde Lullaby the others while we killed them one at a time. The first 2 times we had to get it down, so yeah ><.
But thanks though. I know a money hungry Ninja and RDM, so I think I could get some help on it. And the NIN has a High H2H proficiency, if that helps.

To this, I know several people who have organized permanent Giddeus 40 static PTs and do it religiously/easily enough. ^^ The Mandra one isn't that bad. If you trust the PT to do it successfully each time, the person that had the orb can get all the loot.

Ballista is fun as hell. Kinda confusing, but fun as hell. Granted, I sucked the big one on my first match, but that was mostly due to confusion and the lack of macro planning. Yes, Paladins are like Snippers.... Shining Blade reminded me of Big Scissors even.
And no, White Mages aren't quite easy targets. Invis makes you harder to notice then you'd think. Diaga and Banishga are nice subs for other -Gas, which causes Ninja and/NIN to hate you. I did make a habit of targetting the White Mage. It was nothing personal, but she made our BLMs Sleepga a whole let useful. The chases were epic...

Many of us are 40+, so to be honest, I don't think we're gonna listen too much. Honestly, why anyone tries convincing someone that an MMO is good after they've decided it isn't, or vice versa, is beyond me. People are opinionated creatures.
Oh, and for everyone planning on levelling White Mage after hitting 30, get Summoner first and level it a little. I was able to solo DCs in relative safety thanks to /SMN. Carby may have bee comparatively weak, but he still did pretty damned good. I want to level BLM for a farming sub, and I've almost finished my stint as a WHM.

Fury
July 19th, 2004, 02:01 AM
I'd rather stick with WHM/BLM all the way to the end of the game. That way when I decide to try out summoner I can do the 65+ avatar fights in parties and have all the Summons before level 20 and hopefully even have Fenrir in parties instead of getting him AFTER summoner reaches level 75.

RPGuru1331
July 19th, 2004, 02:32 AM
No summon is worth using besides Carby or Fenrir (For a quick hit), until lvl 20, unless you're soloing and need a Spirit to tank for you while you run the hell away. You don't start getting the group buffs till then, if memory serves.
Although I will say that SE screwed Summoners over pretty bad. Worst AF quests in the game, Not being able to get that which makes their job go til 20 (And it's hard and expensive then)

Yeah, that's a good idea. From what I've seen early on though, summoners aren't bad, but my experience with attacking avatars is limitted to only 2 situations, both in Valkurm. One of them was a Summoner who was, for all intents and purposes, new. He left Carby out to attack with. He did decent damage (More then my THF meleeing in the dunes, at least), and was mostly the WHM. So basically, his was fine, and no one complained. The other was a higher level JP summoner who would call in Fenrir, who would take out a good chunk of the Gob's HP, then unsummon him. As near as I can tell, SMN are like WHMs for a long time, if only for that deep MP pool.

Edit: I add this in for the guy who told us to stop playing FFXI...
Not to be offensive, but it honestly hasn't changed me that much. If I wasn't playing FFXI, I'd just be playing something else. I suppose the only real difference is that I can't surf the net or watch TV while I play. And I doubt that's why you told us to quit. I can't speak for anyone else on this, but I can say that my play schedule hasn't changed by anyone's standards except other gamers'. Now, instead of Random Game for an hour, then Random Game for 4 hours, then Random Game for 3 hours, it's FFXI for 8 hours.

There's just so much to do in the game that I can't see myself leaving anytime soon. It can be frustrating if you limit yourself to something like leveling. Recently I jumped back on cooking and currently have it up to 48. Just waiting for maintenance to be over so I can take the test and level it to 50. Other than that I've been enjoying fishing (level 10 so far) and doing some gardening on the side.

My summoner is only level 7 but I had a blast leveling it up that far. Whereas with WHM and BLM I was dreading going through the early levels I was actually liking it as SMN. I think it was because I had Carbuncle by my side helping the whole time. Having said that, I think I'd enjoy BST also but that probably won't happen for a long while. I'll eventually go back to summoner but it might be after I can get Fenrir.

I'm going to head back to windurst and farm some more in giddeus and work on my clothcraft a bit more while I decide what to do next.. clothcraft isnt costing me anything, its making me 4000gil per stack of grass cloth I get from farming the yagudo necklaces ^^

OR I could use those necklaces for Norg fame for if I decide to try out ninja.

Yeah, I don't mind it at all. :) I fish to make gil, and I actually find that relaxing, so no annoying farming for me. XD I can also do Teleports for gil, which to some may seem boring, but I meet a lot of nice Odin players in the process.

Also, getting to visit places like Den of Rancor (A high lvl WHM fisherman let me tag along as a joke, but I managed to Sneak/Invis myself to the little fishing spot until a freaking monkey got me when Sneak wore off >_<) is worth it. :) As an artist, I play for inspiration on armor designs, locations, etc.

Also, people that know me know that I hate leveling. XD So my solution was just to be a WHM so I could help out my LS and friends when they need me, giving me a nice break from XP parties. Also, I made a static PT recently, so that when I do PT every night, it's with people I know and trust. :) And people I can chat up with in the /p log without being fearful of spamming it.

Uh, best I can say is that you need to go through Korroloka Tunnel, and Rabao is connected to Eastern Altepa Desert. All I can say is that Giants still aggro me at 40. And they're *****es. And pretty much everything in E. Altepa aggros. And the Altepa gate crystal is practically guarded by Anticans....
Other then that, no problem.

Rabao. Seriously, Rabao is a gold mine, according to LS fishers.

Rabao, or the less-fished L10 Lake of La Theine. Recommended: fishing lvl 30+, +water Mogenhancement that gives you more rusty items, and a good moon. :)

finally hit lvl 15, and after last night's playing, I have found true love for my LS. They guy that made it is pretty cool... though he himself seems to enjoy dieing.. a lot (he has died 17 or 18 times in the last week).
Ran into a battering Ram in LTP... scary....

Damn, I am so poor right now, it isn't even funny... yeesh....

At the lower levels, I'd suggest killing Bees in North/South Gustaberg, on the mountains. People will pay 3k per stack of beehive chips. Also, Wind and Fire crystals are at a premium, and sell REALLY fast.

After getting my WHM to 34 (can finally warp with my BLM sub:) ) I planted myself in Rabao and have just been fishing up a storm. Fishing really can be a good source of income. Made about 24k worth of fish but I ended up trading it off for a little over 7k so I can add to my Lu Shang moat carp total. That Lu Shang rod better be worth it. I'm at level 11 fishing and haven't gotten any skillups for quite some time so I'll probably need to move. After I finish the rest of my bait I'll try Ronfaure.

I have been upside down in my lvling. I had gotten my warr to 24 and started looking for the keys. Had all kinds of problems getting the one in Windy. In the mean time I had been subbing with white mage to be able to cure myself. So I had been subbing my blk mg for that. Got to kazham and its somewhat difficult for warr to find parties at time, so in the mean time I lvled my white mage more, and also started lvling my thief. I had to create a second character just to put all my extra armor and stuff in. So now I have warr to 28, whtm to 17, blkm to 6, thief to 7, and monk has been at 5 forever because I just use it to sub my mages at low lvls

Everyone: You haver a spiffy event involving the Japanese Summer festival. You and a partner of the opposite gender are warped to a high level dungeon, capped at level 1. You will have Sneak and Invis on you, and they don't break unless you take them off. You have to find the goal point, where you'll receive a race specific item and a key item "Picture of <Insert Partner here>". You trade each other's race specific items, and then trade your partner's to the moogle. You get a part of a traditional kimono for it. The kimono stats are each piece is Def 1, Level 1, Rare-EX.

Yeah after you get level 3 fame place a Bronze Bed in your mog house and after the weekly conquest update on sunday night the moogle will give you the first mog safe quest.

The bed costs 5k but you can just sell it back after doing the quest.

The whole Spring Festival yukata event so far has been exhausting but it's also been lots of fun. This link (http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/journal2.html?user=286093&mid=1090612099501669304&num=23) should have all the information you need to do the quest. The fun came from going to places I've never been and just running around. Took me a bit of work but I managed to get both my regular and lord yukatas. The exhausting part, and only major difficulty I encountered, was trying to get an elvaan female partner. Being such a minority in the game almost everytime I'd find one to ask they'd already done the quest with a tarutaru male and were seeking someone else >_<. The one that finally went with me for the quest reluctantly agreed (it was her 3rd time helping a taru male).

I've realised how stupid I've been about which job to choose after I get to level 30. I always have and always will want to be a summoner. I was planning on getting a different job until it gets to 75 so I can have Fenrir as a summoner but thats VERY stupid because I'll probably NEVER get any jobs to 75. So I'll just be changing over to summoner after WHM gets to 30 and work with summoner from there on, I really dont care about Fenrir that much anyway because I've wanted to be a summoner since before he was even in the game.

Congrats Fury. Nice to know you finally settled in, honestly. Switching around like that must be stressful.
In other news, I hit BLM 12. Drain is nice.... but I'm only getting back like 3-4 HP normally. Probably because my Dark Magic skill is crap.

I am enjoying the leasurely life as a mage errant. I go where I want, I don't have the hassle of lvling making me trudge through the game and I'm enjoying every minute of it. I returned to my home country of San d'Oria today, and despite repeated comments on how bad the shouting and spamming is there, it wasn't NEARLY as bad as Bastok. Bastok had it by far the worst in shouting. I don't have lag and I can actually go places unlike Bastok. Anyway, I managed to upgrade the Chaosbringer today to the Deathbringer going from 6 points of damage to 50 points is really worth the effort. I think I'll go fishing while I'm completing some quests in Sandy, too bad my rod broke in E. Ronfaure, I'l go buy a Yew one anyway.

The weekly conquest update is over my moogle gave me the first mog safe quest... he wanted a Beetle Ring and a Power bow. The Beetle ring I bought for 1k but then I checked the power bow.... 15k! I just cleared out most of my mog safe last night so I think I'll be waiting a while before doing this quest, I have 25k but I need to spend that on more armour and spells soon and I dont really need the extra 10 mog safe slots that much.

Bah. You and I both know that's only because of Summerfest. I step into Sandy on almost any other week and I can almost hear my PS2 start screaming.
Anyway, BLM is at 15 now. 10 more levels and I can leave it alone..... and start on NIN to 25. NIN I like better though, so it's not as much of a chore. I think I'm going to hate Worms though. Stupid Stonega.

Until you zone on accident and don't realize your ivis wore off (for the mere reason of you being stupid), and walk straight into a room filled with things that would aggro you even if you were at the top of your game (meaning full hp, and all your equipment), and get mauled horibbly, then de-lvl because of it. :)

^-- Yes, I did that. Imagine my joy from that. not to mention I was teamed with an jerk taru, who, when he saw me again, proceeded to use /slap on me around 30 times, and bad mouth me. Called mew a frickin noob >_<

oh yes, the summer fest stuff is what I've been doing last two days. got a lord Yukata, so I'm going back to normal stuff. I'm a lvl 14 (would be 15 for not what happened above), so Valkurm is the best place to be for lvl'ing, right?

and one LAST thing: Kuroneko2, I see you're on ifrit, so you may hear from me sometime. ^^;

don't want you to, just making you all aware there are people like me out there dumb enough, only on ocassion, to not realize his invis is gone. ^^;

uh, best way to put what Summerfest is, is an attempt by Square Enix to get the Japanese players and the American/Canadian players to mingle and interact more than they do. That seems to have only really worked on the first day of Summerfest, because after that, everyone had done the mog quests and got bored of doing them.

XD I love Summerfest. All the high level people slipped to San d'Oria to do it for some reason, so I parked my butt in South San and did teleports. High level people are nice tippers (1 guy gave me 5k to get to Mea, a lot of people do random 1-2k tips). O_o I made 70k in 3 hours doing random ports.

well lucky you lol. but us low lvl WARs don't got it easy like that ;) especially if we don't have a craft >>

On the bright side, I got Power Leveld yesterday. got 3 lvl's in one day... that was sooooooo nice. no I just need a magicked skull and I'll have my sub job ^_^

plus, I've found out that my LS leader is, for the most part, rich. so now I know that if i'm ever really in the need of gil, I can maybe mooch some from him... so long as I manage to pay him back later. --- Oh, and I have around 33k possible at the AH, so if it all sells (doubt it will, that damn scythe doesn't sell for crap) I'll be starting a craft soon. Any suggestions for what one brings in the most money?

Well, compared to me, that's pretty damned good. I never level that fast.
I hit 17 today, and found out Warp is 100 MP. I checked it out, and as it stands (lvl 17 sub) I have 76 MP, thus defeating the purpose. I figure I can get enough gear to give me the 24 MP I need now, and by the time I hit 50, I hope I'll just have enough outright, so I won't need to carry +MP gear on me.
