How long will Ballista last for? Will it be permanent or just for a couple of weeks? I'm no where near getting to rank 3 and I dont want to miss out on something like this.

EDIT: 1000th reply in this thread :)

Wonderful... Something else to take people away from exp parties and helping with AF quests.

Haven't played in nearly a week, and this sure isn't making me want to come back.

seeing how that there are only like 3 ballista fields (as far as I know), I don't think too many are going to be doing it at once.

besides, playing only ballista can only be fun for so long before you realize "Wait a second... I'm not even progressing anymore..." (since you don't get Exp. points, etc.)

Ballista sounds too much like Blitzball for me to even consider trying it anyway. I'm talking about the way the words sound, not the way its played, mind you. And since this is new and "cool", everyone will be wanting to try it out now, so I'll have even less of a chance of finding a party at this point. And I doubt I'll ever get any AF anyway, so forget about that.

Any of you guys on Titan wanna help me get my Crafting started? ^_^ Goldsmithing is EXPENSIVE. I can't even afford to mine anymore. Gotta kill worms to get flint and copper, lol. Such a slow process.

I just want to say how nice some higher level players can be, I died earlier and one guy helped me get revived and then gave me 900 Gil, his name was Bravado. I hope to return the favor soon enough, I got plenty of spells now and I am waiting on my friends to get in and play. I'd like to see Hiko on there if I could whenever he feels like it, and Guru I'll be on shortly.

Here's a tip:

RDMs have a hard time in the beginning, managing all those powers at first is insane! I do have a request though I can't make my macros work right I typed this in for making cure myself as one:

/ma cure <me>

it says I did it wrong, now how do I fix it?

~Neo~
April 22nd, 2004, 10:27 PM
Only thing I can see wrong with the macro is that it should be Cure not cure. Spell names have to match exactly, caps and all. And if the name is more then one word, need " "s around it for it to work. (Which isn't the case here, but thought I'd throw that out as well for a little fyi)

I need help......I'm working on my Rank 3 quest, The Three Kingdoms.....I'm in Bastok....I've been in Bastok for days......this mission sucks. I got the Onz of Mythril Sand from the Refiner in the Palborough (sp?) Mines and I can't finish the mission back in Bastok. I've talked to Pius, Grohm, and everyone in my consulate, not only that I've tried to trade the sand to each of those people, even the W.W. in the Windurstian consul. _ _; (I'm WIndurstian...duh...>>) This really sucks. >_O Can anyone help me? Apparently there was supposed to be a cut-scene when I talk to one of those people...

...I just wanted to finish the mission, lvl up, and become a Summoner...why!? *cries* x.x

The LS was talking about what countries the FFXI countries most resemble, and we got the following:
San d'Oria: This country is 2nd France. The Elvaan have French snobbiness, French names, and they hold their swords like a rapier. Their location names are French too
Bastok: Pre-revolutionary Russia. You have a group of opressed 2nd class citizens on the verge of a revolt, in a newly industrialized country.
Windhurst: I said it was either Saudi Arabia meets Great Britain, because it's a theocracy with a parliament, but someone else mentioned that it was like Southern Florida, becasuse it's got a bunch of hot chicks in bikinis and inadaquet men. So it's all 3.
Jeuno: It's the USA. They're the center of attention, they have a stranglehold on trade, they're two-faced, and they're disliked by everyone who isn't powerful. Tell me you see the similarity.

Well I'm having no shortage of finding parties when I play. I'm lvl 8 now and going on lvl 9, I finally met a certain dirty Cuban who need a helmet REALLY bad...I was also compared to the actual Griffith due to my tactical fighting and was praised for my good healing and combat skills. You're a mage. Mages ALWAYS get invites. Once you hit 12 or so, people will invite you even if you're already in a party. Some may even attempt bribery. Talk to Ryoken or Destiiney sometime. They'll tell ya. Angelin probably can too, but I don't know if groups get more honorable at the higher levels.
Oh, and Sakura, that conversation happened last night at around 12.

That convo was freaky there Guru. My party earlier was a good group, all of them were rather new but treated each other with respect, I was the only user of MP, but it didn't hurt the party at all, casting Protect and healing from time to time, I didn't get to finish the quest so it'll hurt me to go ahead in the King's tomb, I'll help my friend Archantian out when he gets to it though, so maybe that'll make up for it.

Monsters talking to each other?
Well, the way the AH works is that you post a setup price. The FIRST person to beat that setup price buys your product. In the even multiple setup prices are beaten, it goes with the lowest. If they're tied, it goes with the earliest. You will get whatever the first successful bid was.

I've bitten off more than I can chew...I'm currently assigned with the mission of going to the King's Tomb in East Ronfare and finding out what's wrong but apparently every thing in there beyond the entrance and inside a good ways is a aggro monster with twice the strength of every monster in the surrounding area...rather than being a burden to those in my linkshell and my friends I'm going to level up some more and hopefully get some better equipment to beat these things, it's insane how powerful just a Goblin Butcher is in there...in other news I hit level 9 and damn if Guru isn't right, I get constant party invites...

Final Fantasy XI: The Chains of Promathia Heading For Fall Release in Japan

According to a release schedule published in Japanese publication The PlayStation, Square Enix will release an expansion to its multiplatform MMORPG titled Final Fantasy XI: The Chains of Promathia in Japan this fall. The second expansion to last year's Rise of Zilart expansion (which was packaged with the English versions of the game) will boast many new features, beginning with the addition of over 40 new areas, including the Goblin city Moblupolis and the Tabnesia Archipelago, a group of ancient ruins spread across a cluster of islands.
While Chains of Promathia won't raise the level cap, or include any new classes or job skills, it will add new items, some to aid players in traversing the new locations (such as a raft for getting across water).

Thus far, Square Enix USA has yet to comment on a US release of the expansion, but due to the simultaneous releases of updates and patches to the existing game, it's entirely possible it will release in North America alongside, or soon after it does in Japan. Look for word on this at E3.

First thing I did when I hit dinged 25 was play with Flee. It's fun.
It was insane. I gained 3 levels today, because some higher level was powerlevelling his friends, and I got an invite. I'm going into Giddeus later on today. MUCH later on today.
Oh, and more of that weird luck of mine kicked in. On one of the Acrophies we killed, Carbuncle's Ruby was found. Guess who won the lot? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
I've even charged it with 3 elements already. Now if only I could actually go get the quest.

April 28th, 2004, 02:32 PM
I'm with you. Blue Mages would rock....I really miss the old cheers smile right now...o.O

But really, Blue Magic would rock! A Blue Mage could learn a Job Ability really early called "Learning", when they activate it, it acts like a signet or protect or something, a good status effect, and it lets them learn enemy skills. Then they could use the skill as Blue Magic!! ^____^ Not sure what their two-hour would be though...o_O The abrev could be BLU or something....

Also, we there are Red Mages, White Mages, Black Mages, and Blue Mages in FF games...where are the Green Mages!? @_@

RPGuru1331
April 28th, 2004, 02:40 PM
They're called Summoners. Look at their robes in FF5. They dressed in green. Ditto for FFT.
And I imagine Learning would be a Trait, not an ability. It'd be weird though: Most Enemy skills are Weapon skills, not magic.

Kuroneko2
April 28th, 2004, 02:43 PM

Magatsu
April 29th, 2004, 03:37 PM
To get Fenrir you have to fight all the avatars twice I I am not mistaken. Once for the summon itself and the secind time for a item, which names elludes my mind atm, but yeah you need that item from every avatar, and can only get it once a fight.

Kuroneko2
April 29th, 2004, 04:32 PM

RPGuru1331

You missed the easy one: Carbuncle.

Sakura X
April 29th, 2004, 09:00 PM
Which reminds me, anyone know how to get Fenrir?

Fenrir is fought in the battleground, in the Full Moon Fountain. In order to initiate the battle, you must have unlocked the Summoner Job, and collected all 6 Whispers from the 6 Avatars (Ramuh, Titan, Ifrit, Leviathan, Shiva, Garuda), and turn them in to Leppe-Hoppe, in Windhurst Waters, Rhinostery. At this point, you get a cut scene, in which the Carbunckle Ruby turns into the Moon Bauble.

The Moon Bauble is the key item you need to challenge Fenrir.

No you don't 'need' to fight them twice you can fight them for the whisper and then fight Fenrir without getting the other avatars.

Kuroneko2
April 30th, 2004, 04:10 AM
You missed the easy one: Carbuncle.

I didn't mention him because I figured you wouldn't need his whisper.

I've sorta been inspired (again) to become a Summoner...o_O I wanna see if I can get Carbuncle, Titan, Ifrit, Shiva, Garuda, Ramuh, Leviathan, Fenrir, and the Earth, Air, Water, Fire, Ice, and (I think they exsist...) the Darkness and Light Spirits. I read a guide to SMNs and I think I saw Darkness and Light...I know I saw Darkness...the only one I don't remember seeing was Lihgtning. I wonder if they'll ever release it......

It'd be kinda neat of Odin and Alexander were summons....but they already have a summon for each element so I guess it'd never happen. =P And anyway, they'd make weird summons...o.O

Sakura X

I'm starting to wonder whether that 15k wouldn't have been better. I doubt Mithra make good SMN. I just want it to play with it, really.

I have been getting really bored as of late....

Stuck at lvl 12...

I really enjoy the game but the fact that I have no friends or get many groups is getting to me. It's like everyone else is playing the game but me.

I have leveled warrior to 11....red mage to 13....thief to lvl 12....

and I have only been in four groups since i got the game.

I buy all the best gear for my level, have all my spells and eat rondalberry pies every group the whole time. I am doing the best I can but i either dont get invited or get the worst possible group with 5 warriors and me the only healer or something dumb like that.

I have every slot filled with good gear and I try my best....what am I doing wrong?

The game was fun before but I am thinking about quitting unless things pick up for me soon. Please help!

BTW I am on Unicorn....if you need a friend or wanna group please say hello!

I'm a Mithra too! (See above =P) But I still wanna be a SMN, even though I won't have the most MP or anything I really want to be a Summoner. Galkans and maybe Elvaans would make worse SMNs than Mithra. Taurtaru would be the best followed by Hume. But I still want to be a SMN regardless! ^___^ I mean, I've seen a Galkan WHM and he was over lvl 70 I think...maybe even 75, I don't remember exactly. But if a Galka can be a good White Mage and Mithra can be a better Summoner! And on the note of the crystal clusters...what do they do anyway? o_O;

rei82

April 30th, 2004, 08:08 PM
Yeah...basically. =P By the way I have an idea for Ballista players to counter a Thief using Flee. Be a RDM/THF. Attempt to use Bind possibly to simply freeze the THF and then use Gravity on it to reduce it's speed and use Flee on yourself to increase your speed, thus turning the tables. You could also cast Gravity as the THF is running away, I figure it would hit the THF in time. Then use Flee catch up to the THF and beat the snot out of him. >>;

It's more fun to negate it. Then you can laugh at the THF for fun. =P

RPGuru1331
May 1st, 2004, 09:06 AM
Uh, could an RDM beat a THF in melee? We use similar armor, and have better hit and evade rates, as well as crit. rates. Especially if this is one who was a WAR for a while nad has a good Shield, Parry, and Evasion skill rating. We can both use swords, so that's not really an issue either.

Kuroneko2
May 1st, 2004, 09:09 AM
If the RDM does manage to Bind the THF it can simply cast spells on it. If the RDM wanted to it could use Chainspell and just cast a series of elemental spells like Aero or something.

Oh, and is it just me or is really hard to get a good party? I can never find one of those parties that levels 3 times in one night. @____@ And there are so many stupid people. _ _; Any suggestions? o.O

RPGuru1331

Kuroneko2

Good point. THFs can use all sortsa neat ranged weapons. All RDMs can really use is a bow. ~_~ My bow skill is still only like 13 too. =P If I used Chainspell and cast Fire over and over on you though I think it would be more effective than ranged weapons. =P

Ph, I really like the Water Spirits...they look k0ol. ^___^

The last patch they added BCNM20 and BCNM30.

Yeah, water is pretty cool, but I still have yet to see a dark spirit can't imagine why ^.^;;

Oh..kay.
Well I'll assume you know what a NM is. A BCNM is a notorious monster that requires you to trade in beastman seals for an orb. (Traded to a man in Jeuno don't remember where or who ^.^;; ) The number refures to the number of seals needed to aquire the orb as well as the lv cap.
This is just my understanding of it I have yet to do a BCNM myself so I'm sure someone out there may have a better explanation of it.

So uh, damn, I've been gone for awhile, and a lot has changed on the forums.

As for my FFXI-ness, I made 60, got Skewer, completed my Dragoon AF, and then went out of town for awhile. My return happened to be the week of the huge TP nerf that sort of screwed <65 DRG and DRK (primarily) over hardcore. I've sort of lost interest in leveling dragoon in general anyway. I saw my AF as my primary goal in the game, just so I could look like the art from FFT which is the sole reason I wanted to be a dragoon. And since that patch, even trying to level DRG has been depressing. It's not that I can't get groups these days, I have a lot of friends that always invite me.. it's just that.. well, let's see. Penta Thrust went from returning 60TP to 16. Given, Skewer dominates all over Penta anyway, and is significantly more chain friendly, but that only returns 14 instead of the old 36. Aside from that, In 15,000xp to Level to 61, my TNL is going to jump from 20,000 to 30,000-- and climb each level again. I just can't really look forward to that.

So first I decided I would level my original mule, Miyuki (hume) to be a ranger, because elvaan rangers make me sick (bow stance is terrible, and the general stat situation while meaning next to nothing in the long run is still aesthetically displeasing). So I started from level one and got Warrior to 18, then Thief to 15, then Warrior/Thief to 23. Of course, these days I'm a member of a very casual high level LS, no real raids, but everyone helps eachother out all the time, we do skill ups, quests, missions, hunts, we even try and beat the other HNM LS Meteora (JP) to certain HNMs like Roc and Simurgh. We've gotten and killed Simurgh once. A couple weeks ago we killed Steelfleece and got the Viking Shield. Ten of us there, so we each ended up with 60,000G after a 20 minute adventure. That worked out well. So anyway, the LS was talking about some jobs that we need as a team so we can do more, and ninja was mentioned. We have a couple bards, a number of red mages, a white mage, a black mage, plenty of paladins, a couple samurai, a few thieves, a few rangers, plenty of dark knights and dragoons, but not a single full time ninja. Given my current displeasure with Dragoon, I decided to take a stab at ninja back on my main. I'm loving it. In the last week I've gon from 12 (leveled it just because awhile back, mostly to play with Utsusemi which I'd already quested-- primary reason for doing ninja with Kanzen, he had the Norg fame, he had the scrolls, he had level 12 already) to more than half way through 30. Heck, today alone in the same PT I managed five full levels out in the Jungles. Hopefully tomorrow I can get some Evil Weapon or Eastern Atlepa Desert groups. The down side is I'm really feeling the whole gil drain that ninja is. Including gear and all of my ninja powders from 12-near31, I've spent over 100,000G. After my old gear sells (since I replaced a bit and haven't sold anything since 24) I'll probably have a total of ~180G left. I have to find a way to get a hold of Utsusemi: Ni by 37. I need to have that scroll in my hand before I even level to 37, it is vital. Problem is, that scroll costs 80-100k on my server. I need to figure out how I want to go about that. Right now, I could probably afford it and make it to 37. However, my monk is almost Lv37, and I have enough seals to BCNM40 four times. I'd be guaranteed to get a Ni drop in one of those four times if I went with my Linkshell (if I went with strangers just whoring myself out to BCNM runs, they would REFUSE to let me use the scroll, because oh my god, they might make 15k off of it after it's sold and profits divided). Problem is, I'm not sure I want to take a break from ninja to get monk to 40. Another option I have is gimping dragoon and officially giving up on it. If I took that route, I could sell my Lance, my Merman's Gorget, and my Assault Earring and end up with (including my current funds) around 450k, at best. The problem with this is my LS does still make "opportune" raids for certain things like Ose (NM coeurl in Labyrinth of Onzozo-- drops Assault Jerkin very awesome rare/ex melee body piece +attack and accuracy like whoa), and I wouldn't want to show up with my AF1 Lance wearing my AF armor with my ninja's accessories. Though it is tempting, I'll probably made the decision when I'm closer to 37.

Another must have item (that's going to have to wait) are the Ochiudo's Kote, which sell for 500,000G. I'm going to try my luck at jumping him after some maintainence, but I doubt I'll ever just shell out the money to buy them. I also should probably buy an Emperor's Hairpin for the evasion. Bleh, the more I think about what I need to buy, the more tempting it is to just sell my drg stuff. I could have an emp pin, my ninjutsu, and probably enough gil for shihei to get me all the way to 60 if I did-- and my goal is to hit 60 ASAP. I actually sincerely hope to grind to 60 by the end of the month, I want the ninja AF that bad, heh.

Anyway, ninja is expensive, but ninja is extremely fun. I must play more. But I must also sadly sleep and do other real life things inbetween. For now, I shall do that sleep thing.

I'm too frustrated by this game to want to play it right now... I haven't touched my 51 Samurai in two weeks. I can't find parties and getting AF is probably the more annoying and frustrating thing I've ever seen in a video game. I don't like continuing to play a game when it is no longer enjoyable. However, I haven't decided to give up yet because I have not finishing something I've started.

For the moment I am supposed to be playing with some of my friends who all work at the EB I always go too on Midgarsormr. The got me the world pass and said they'ed be on last night so I got on and started to level until one of them got ahold of me. I told them my character name, but I don't know any of theirs. Once I hit level 7 I decided they weren't going to get ahold of me so I'll just talk to them later today when I go to pick up La Pucelle.

I hope my LS doesn't think down apon me for just disapearing for 2 weeks. I'll be back sometime soon, I'm not exactly sure when... But if I still can find parties or any AF help... I'll probably just leave again. I have too many games to play, and I really dislike wasting my time just doing nothing in FFXI.

Question: Why can't you play other games while you seek?

If I'm playing FFXI, I'll be talking to the LS and checking the AH and having to constantly watch my logbox to make sure I haven't missed a tell for a party while I was looking at my TV playing my other game. And if I have to keep checking back and forth between to screens then I can't focus on either game. It irritates me if I'm playing another RPG and I keep having to interupt the story or in an action game when I have to keep pausing it every so often then trying to go back into whatever I was doing.

If an invite is available, there'll be a miniscule green exclamation mark on the window that has your name on it. Makes life easier when you're checking. And frankly, I've found it easy to play, say, Baldur's Gate or FFV while I'm waiting for an invite. But then, at that point, I stop paying attention to our LS.

Seijuro_Hiko_IX
May 6th, 2004, 06:46 PM
I know about the icon (come on, man... I am level 51...). Notice I did not say anything about getting an invite itself. I said a tell for an invite. At my level, people don't usually just throw out an invite. It's very common practice to send a tell first asking if you are interested in a party. In fact, I don't remember the last time I got an invite without getting a tell first. Besides, you can't be invited from Jeuno when your potental party is already in the zone that you will be fighting in. So then a tell is the only way to get someone into a zone where you can invite them.

I'll be completing my second AF soon. Samurai get shafted for their body piece, and whatever smn needs in that stupid temple, but other jobs have much harder paths overall. At least you get key drops in exp party locations. ;p

Oh, and it's the Crystal Warrior Hume NIN/WAR. He's in the Zilart Missions after you finish Rank6. I will tell you now, that the first cut scene you see him in is just totally badass. The guy is huge too. All of the Crystal Warriors are two main jobs, not subs. So he has access to all of the warrior abilities, and all of the ninja abilities. Let's just say if you're unlucky in fighting him, he'll use both Mighty Strikes and Mijin Gakure after that wears off. He was so badass I had to change my moogle from Lion. (http://www.altimit.cc/ffxiss/cwninwar01.jpg) (others: 02 (http://www.altimit.cc/ffxiss/cwninwar02.jpg), 03 (http://www.altimit.cc/ffxiss/cwninwar03.jpg), 04 (http://www.altimit.cc/ffxiss/cwninwar04.jpg))

Does anyone know h release date in uk?

Can someone explain better to me the whole job and sub job system?

What job looks the coolest(lvl 30 jobs)?

I have already decided I will start as a thief but what would you recommend I move onto when I reach lvl 30? I was thinking either ninja or ranger. I really liek using bows and things with long range. But I love ninja's

What race would you recommend me?

I was thinking elvaan coz they look badass or the one with a strengh boost as I normally focus on strengh when I use chracters.

both nin and rng are the most expencive jobs in the game -.-; so you better b a theif other wise you'll never aford it ! rng need lots of expencive ammo and nin need tools to do ninjitsu !

LOL! As a Hume White Mage, I can never have an MP pool as deep as a Taru's. Even if I boost my MP, they'll have more. But I use my MP more efficiently because of this. :) And that's fine for me. Rangers arguably deal the most damage in the game, maybe only beaten out by Taru Black Mages. And Theives CAN deal out a huge amount of damage, but its limited to only when Sneak Attack and Trick attack are ready. So it isn't constand damage. A Thief's normal damage isn't really anything special. Actually, most of the time at mid levels I noticed that the theives anf even sometimes the Paladins were doing 0 damage to the mobs with their normal attacks. Where I noticed Thief really shining was when they would Skill Chain with me and a Black Mage would Magic Burst. Sneak Attack + Trick Attack + Viper Bite, followed be my Tachi: Enpi and a Magic Burst of Water II or Blizzard II would always knock the mob down quite a bit.

:) I keep getting /checked even though I'm a newbie Bard. I guess they are a rare breed. :/ I have no clue why. With my defense and attack boosted, I can attack decent and toughs pretty well. I wub it so much. ^^ And I already get a HP regen spell at lvl 5! Gaaah! I waited how long as a WHM to get Regen, which you can only apply to one person at a time?

I am really going to enjoy this class. ^^ I saw an Elvaan BRD in AF on my way to Buburimu Song Runes. I think that was a sign.

I only wish the songs were different. :/ I just have harp sound, flute sound, bass voice sound. I wish there was more variaty.

<WHOOSH> well that went right over my head. So is theif a good starting job.

LOL :) It confuses me to. To put it basically, Thieves do EXCELLENT damage in the right situation..

Example: Sneak Attack works when you're behind the enemy. If the person tanking the monster holds it still, you can knock a lot of help off of them.

Trick attack works when you attack the enemy from behind -another ally-. The enemy things your ally hit them with the powerful attack instead of you, and start beating up on the ally instead of getting attracted to you. ^^ This is VERY useful later on if you have a Paladin and another melee. Who here is on the Odin server?

I am! :) Rinlocke, normally WHM/BLM, currently BRD/WHM.

We should meet up some time. Right now, I'm just a lvl 6 BRD. *_* I hope to get to 15 this weekend and start doing some serious leveling then. :) I also unlocked Ranger and Beastmaster, so I'm tempted to play around with those.

When you start leveling your subjob, we should team up ^_~

I had a funny situation last night. I was in a party in the dunes near Sandoria and we were fighting snippers (or was it clippers), but we fought a particurly tough one, and in the middle of the fight someone managed to pull a giant bat into the fray. Needless to say, someone died, the rest of us are almost dead, so we cut and run for Selvania. After healing I start to leave, but when I exit, on the very next screen there is a pack of 10 gobs all gathered by the exit that someone had brought in. It was funny. All we could do was wait, and then make a big mad dash out of there. And waiting there along with the bats was the same giant bat that we had been fighting. BTW, I am Zeroryoko on the Titan server if you are on Titan and see me, say hello or wave or something :w00t: :D :cool: :thumbsup: :ssj:

Your base stats mean next to nothing. I can say this with confidence. An elvaan ranger can perform just as well as a mithra or a taru ranger-- it honestly doesn't mean jack. Maybe at lower levels when there isn't any gear you can use really you might notice a difference, but it fades as soon as you get into any gear with bonuses.

I had a static pt on my dragoon 54-60. One of our other heavy melee jobs was switched out around 56. We started with a Taru Dark Knight. He did more base damage than my elvaan dragoon, as he should have. He also missed as much as I did. Even as a taru he was able to a) outdamage my base damage b) miss as much as I did. A taru mage 10 levels below me had more base dex than I did at this level. One of the nights our backup heavy melee wasn't online, we replaced the taru with an elvaan dark knight-- he actually did lower base damage (was drk/thf, so no attack bonus, double attack, etc), as an elvaan. No real variance in miss rate. The week we started static PT was a bad week for our taru drk, so we ended up replacing him full time with our secondary melee, a mithra dragoon. I spent pretty much all of 56-60 with a mithran dragoon to complment my elvaan dragoon (pre-patch this was a lot of fun, dual penta spam was nice, since drk doesn't get guillotine until 60). Again, same thing, we both actually did the same base damage, and we'd have the same hit/miss rates as eachother generally. It was more pure luck than anything else. We both had almost the exact same gear, except the mithra was actually wearing the +3 dex rings as soon as she could get them as opposed to me still wearing my +2 dex rings. It still didn't make a difference (that'd only be +1 accuracy point)

Honestly, my friends and I are pretty certain there's a soft cap on those sorts of things. At 60 my dragoon has +7 accuracy lance, +5 accuracy neck +2 accuracy earring, +10 accuracy belt, and +8 dex (+4 accuracy). So, +28 accuracy, not including the Lv30 Dragoon Accuracy bonus. The mithra had the same gear, and you honestly could not tell the difference in out hits/misses, and again, same damage.

The general relation between a base stat and a "skill" isn't significant enough to make a difference. You'll see a much more significant(and even noticable-- take off all my dragoon's accuracy gear and try fighting an IT =p) increase by true bonuses, ie +evasion, +(ranged) attack, +(ranged) accuracy. As a heavy melee, look for +attack, +accuracy, not +str +dex-- they're useless. Add "ranged" before those if you're going ranger.

However, I state this from basic melee damage perspective. As a thief, you do want the +dex and the +agi. Dex affects your sneak attack damage bonus. Agi affects your trick attack damage bonus. As a thief not only will you gain the miniscule bonuses to accuracy and evasion, but these stats also help you perform better overall, making them a worthwhile investment. As a bard, you do want +cha, as it affects song resistance. As a mage, you do want your respective bonuses, because again, it affects spell resistance. The bonus mnd gives to things such as cure is insignificant. It's how fast you hit the level's cure cap. Ho boy, so you could spend like 100,000G on +mnd gear, and Cure II for 90 instead of 87 before your skill caps for that level. Oh yes, those three hp are going to draw a line between life and death. ;p

And uh, I think Seijiro meant Tachi: Enpi > Fuidama(sneak+trick) Viper Bite. Viper Bite can only end a Distortion (water/ice) chain. Plus, the more damage the chain's skill hits for, the higher damage the chain itself can reach, it's always a good idea to try and end on a monk or thief's skill. Thief base damage isn't anything to be surprised about, it's a windmill of scratches. My static thf would alternate between warrior and ninja subs, so on one end he'd have one dagger but both double and tripple attack, and the other end two daggers and tripple attack (same damage potential). He attacked really fast, almost constantly, and would get consistant miss sprees on ITs. He made up for it though. Skewer(~300) > Dancing Edge(~700-900) = Distortion(+200-300). Never had a blm, so no potential for another 1000+ dmg burst, sadly.

(scrolls up to find other things he can clear up)
Warriors are a great job, at any level. They can both tank (war/nin[or mnk, doesn't work as well, however]) and deal damage. Warriors are also the only heavy melee job that can get away with subbing samurai. Warriors have access to great axes, which can deal massive damage (comparable to scythes). Great axe doesn't have much going for it until Lv23 when you learn Sturmwind. Two fold attack, meaning it got hit a tad by the nerf (two hits isn't as significant as 4 or 5) but it still does insane damage. Two hits from one of the highest damage weapons in the game, only comparable to the dark knight scythes-- and they don't get a multi-hit until 60. Sturmwind is chain friendly, and can end Distortion (you'll see a lot of distortion in leveling...a lot). Also, the Break weaponskills are very nice, easily changing a High Evade target into Low Evade. While playing my alternate warrior, I had a ton of fun pulling with Acid Bolts (Lowers Defense) and then using Shield Break at the start of a fight. An IT High Defense would be turned IT Low Eveasion. Couple those bolts with Armor Break at ~33 and you can turn high defense into low defense, and then berserk for even more fun. As a given, Warriors don't get the attack bonuses Dark Knights do, so don't expect to see a higher damage output overall-- however, their damage is enough to replace any dark knight, dragoon, maybe even monk in any level exp party. Warriors are a very flexible job-- sadly, they're a basic starting job, so they aren't given the respect they deserve. There is too much emphasis on the "advanced jobs omg." Monks can (debatable, I guess) easily outdamage a dark knight at higher levels, but they aren't often played, or invited to groups, due to the fact people see dark knight and think "omgomgomgADVANCED." The same works with warrior. Though, I'll say it doesn't help that most warriors are grinding for other jobs, so they don't use their highest potential weapons (axe/great axe) so no one really sees what they can do.

Support Job
```````````
For the current level cap, the best subjob is WHM and no other. Also, the only job useful with SMN as a subjob is WHM Lv50~. People wonder if they can have two pets by subbing DRG or BST, but it will not work as you will get the "you already have a pet" error.
Why WHM subjob:
1. Cure bad statuses, RDM sub cannot cure statuses
2. 2h staff skills which are available only to WHM/PLD/MNK when main or sub
3. Party spells you can use without significant loss in power or effectiveness
4. Can teleport at very high level.
What SMN/RDM gets:
1. If skill maxed beforehand, useless dagger skills
2. Slight increase in cure cast speed since its the only thing you can use.
Summons cannot have their "speed up" by RDM sub, nor would they need to be.
3. Less MP more HP (ick)
4. Offensive spells you will never use since the power, spells and skill is
half of your level.
5. People believe a SMN can convert and refresh in the future cap levels.
Turns out level 75 is the last cap rise (Refresh and Convert impossible).
Summons do not use their weapons in battle normally due to lack of skill, STR
and DEX. They belong in the traditional "back row". So RDM's Enchant is useless when you miss and won't do damage, it's useless enough on most RDM main, and equally useless on Ramuh's party enthunder ability. Summoner also has the weakest defense out of all jobs (even less than BLM), so they should never be near a monster.
I noticed a lot of SMN are sometimes treated as backup healers, so WHM is really required. ^^;
Thanks to the recent TP gimp on multi hit weapon skills, Samurai actually can do what they were supposed to be designed to be best at now, which is TP. Do you know how useless I felt when all the Dragoons I would party with are contantly out TP'ing me, and waiting for ME to get enough TP for a weapon skill? Made me wonder what the hell my job was supposed to be good at. Because Dragoon out damages me, and out TP's me. Probably could out tank me too, even with Third Eye. So I felt like I just in the way.
Now thanks to everyone else's TP being gimped, only now can Samurai gain more TP than the other jobs thanks to Meditate. Of course any one who's level 60 can use it if they sub Samurai so there we go again...
Michael
May 11th, 2004, 11:09 AM
Subbed samurai is TOTALLY useless (unless main is warrior). I'm sorry, but a 3 minute reuse 60% TP gain is NOT worth it. At 60 warrior sub offers so much more than Samurai can hope to offer. Wow, I can meditate for 60% tp every 3 minutes! I guarantee you in three minutes time I've gotten enough double attacks off to make up for that 60%, plus I have two attack bonuses on top of Berserk, as well as the utility of being able to provoke first so a thief can fuidama onto a tank and keep it there. If need be, I have defender as well. Anyone who subs samurai for "omg tp and damage" is retarded, unless they are a war/sam. Hands down. My damage output is significantly higher with warrior sub.
Dragoons have the second fastest TP gain of heavy melee for one reason: Jump. They have two clicky insta-tp buttons. In a three minute period you make 48% TP (jump - high - jump - high)-- one hit less than a subbed samurai's Meditate.
Also, smn ARE backup healers until about 70. The 70 Blood Pacts are insane, but before then, smn doesn't really have anything to offer... summons are useless to have fight, and things like blink-ga and haste-ga are nice, but they waste a party slot that could be better used for other things. About the only thing smn has going for it is Fenrir before 70.. =p Have fun getting Fenrir though~ And uh, wee, I have to disagree with subbing smn to any job, period. Aside from SMN/WHM every other Mage job should summon black mage. White Mages become the epitomy of protection with a black mage sub. Okay, sure, you could teleport-xxxx to get out of a sticky situation, but then you have to waste all the time running back, and chances are, someone gets discouraged and leaves. Escape takes you right to the entrance. I would much rather have escape or even back up escape over... blink-ga. Ho boy, like four people in the party who never take damage anyway are protected from.. uh.. taking damage. Joy. You'd have more MP, but honestly, I very rarely see a caster drain their MP in a battle in the higher levels. With tanks coming into their own (ie ninja with both utsus, and plds being able to cure themselves effectively in alternation with whms) on top of refresh or ballad, casters just don't burn that much mp. Another reason why race doesn't mean crap-- no one uses that much mp. Now I'll give you that looking at your mp pool and having over 1000 mp would give you a nice power trip, but I'd like to see you use half that in exp groups. ;p
Ninja already have poison, paralyze, blind, and slow (respectively: dokumori, jubaku, kurayami, hojo) so the rdm spells don't really help there. If main ninja, 37+ a subbed level protect wouldn't be worth much, considering if you get the blink taking skills down, you rarely get hit. nin/rdm could work, but you'd honestly be better off with whm with all the extra mp and healing. rdm/nin is probably the best soloing arrangement in the game, given the caster can refresh, blink, utsusemi, phalanx, stoneskin, weapon buff, haste, cure, convert, etc. You could get a lot in the start of the fight, having both stoneskin and phalanx up before a fight, utsusemi yourself, wait a few seconds then attack, after second shadow cast blink on yourself, after second shadow on blink recast utsusemi repeat, basically.
Just incase someone missed something, the key to reading everything I say is not to take me seriously. I speak from the point of view of maximum effectiveness. If you want to do soemthing else, hey, power to you, have fun. But to play your job the best it can be played, there are cookie cutter combinations that aren't even worth debating. ;p
If you want to go for dark knight or dragoon, start out as warrior. Or at least, don't level monk all the way first. I did that. I then had to do it all over again with warrior because you can't sub monk for anything but warrior. ><
And as for summoners, here's what they do in a pt:
Before pull-- summon garuda> blink-ga
summon titan> stoneskin-ga
Puller...pulls
summon garuda> haste-ga
sit in the back and heal.
The end.
Unless they have Fenrir, then summon Fenrir and debuff mob/buff party. It's too much of an MP waste to sit there and expect your summon to fight. Summoners if they even get an invite are invited to heal, but also because they have some "nice buffs." The normal Haste spell is just a total waste of mp, so Garuda isn't too bad with it. Blink-ga is nice if you have problems keeping hate in one place. Stoneskin is nice for same reasons.
:| Isn't that depressing? Still, I'm patient and made macros that explain what the spell does. (Dont make fun of my crappy lyrics XD)'
Example:
/p "Does thou bleed? (Paeon) you need." (Regen) (health)
Rinlocke casts Army's Paeon.
or else I get:
In Unison: Cool, cool, what did you do, Rin?
I dont know why Bards aren't more popular! (As in, choice-wise) I'm experimenting to see how much Minne and Minuet give. Minne is giving -everyone- twice the strength. A MM hits our tank for about 60hp. With Minne, 31hp a hit. *drools* Not sure about Minuet, though when I solo, I see a vast improvement. I've also been stalking BCNM 40 video, and I'm drooling. :)
Plus, it's relatively cheap. *_* So I'm becoming preachy with WHMs who are becoming poor. :P All of my songs up to level 20? Cost 3k, combined. &____& YUM.
LOL! I have my 30 WHM.. from what I've seen:
Many offer their basic services for free, and see it as a WHM duty. A large percentage do take donations when offered (though most Japanese WHM refuse), but they will never DEMAND gil for their raises. Some, perhaps.. 5-10 percent.. require 500 gil per Raise, which I find wrong. :/ Sure, we're poor, but taking advantage of the dead isn't cool. Lazy WHM will also charge gil for services like PLing or assistance with tasks and quests. I also find that wrong. Dammit, they could just farm with Banishga, or do synthing. :P Unless the quest is REALLY out of their way, I dont see any reason for them to charge.
When I'm on my WHM and pass through areas, I -will- heal those close to dying, if I can see that their healers are out of MP. I stay off anon when I am willing to do Raise calls, and go anon when I'm busy. I never charge for raises, but if the people insist on a donation, I take it and thank them. :) And put a good note in my FFXI player book. (I take notes on good/bad players, good/bad karma, etc) Whenever a friend needs a WHM for something, I let them drag me along. ^^ I play FFXI to have fun.. not become hungry with power. :/
Back on track though, I want to either join his server or he joins mine, how does one go about getting one person get their character transferred onto another server?
Bastok has 2: One near the Gustaberg exit of the Port area, and one near the square in the Market District.
And sorry if I implied that any good WHMs were bastards. It's only the bastards that bother me.
Power to you if you want to be a summoning summoner. Honestly, if that's what you seriously want to try and do, I recommend subbing black mage. More MP and when people invite you, they won't expect you to heal. The downside is you'll probably hear from just about every single person you group with "why aren't you subbing whm?" and others will highlight the specific reasons why blm sub wastes an effective party space. I have known one successful smn/blm, but he also knows people, so he was guaranteed groups.
My wyvern's name is Kagero. I opt to think of it moreso as in "蜉蝣 (ephemeral)" instead of what I'm sure is the intended name, "陽炎 (heat haze)."
I got ninja to 37. Oh my god Utsusemi: Ni is so sweet. 1m30s cast time compared to 4s, it's like impossible for me to be interrupted casting it. Cast ni, puller pulls, as soon as all four shadows are gone, click ni again, three shadows later, give it a second then go for ichi, if they miss me, click ni off, if they hit, keep going, third shadow down cast ni, repeat last two. Heh. It's actually kinda tricky to get down, but I'm determined to master it. ><;
Bards are super popular on my server (Seraph) of course theres like 40 of them during peak hours. When I was leveling bard I got soo many requests to help out with BCNM40 when I got to 40. Two words: Mage Ballad. Bard is a job where you don't really notice what they've brought to the party until after they left.
LOL! Know! SO much constant running around.. making sure the songs are on the melee and mages.. I barely get to pull a Paeon before the MOB dies and the puller goes to lather, rinse, repeat. ^^
I cant WAIT for BCNM 40 :) Gotta save up for Monster Signa and Mary's horn, though.
Pft, Paeon isn't what makes a bard, you'd be disappointed seeing Paeon do anything. It's nice when you don't have other options at lower levels, though. It's the double Ballads(25+55 stack), Madrigal(melee accuracy), Minuet(attack), Prelude(ranged accuracy), and of course, Finale(dispel) that make bard a desired job.
That's something I forgot to mention. Charisma does nothing for your songs in general. A Monster Signa isn't really going to do much for you until you start using threnodies for black mages and finale for dispel. It affects how likely the mob is to resist songs.
Bards are very nice, and very shot in supply on Odin. However, I haven't grouped with a bard in so long on any job. My static PT had a rdm/nin, and we still #5 chained like crazy and rarely needed to rest. You'll notice a difference with bards, but it isn't to say they're the most important. There isn't a specific "most important" job. ;p
Level 17 weapon that I wont need to replace for a long time/if ever. :) I think it's worth it. And I asked a few Bards to experiment.. they swear charisma affects only sleep songs.
I know Bards aren't the most important. ;) But.. they so sexy and fun. As are RDM. As are NIN. As are Pally. <3
WHM/BRD? O_o; I'm BRD/WHM instead because people says it's seriously gimped unless I can hold two songs on people. I've also been recommended BRD/RDM.. but is Fast Cast really a vast improvement? 2 seconds shaved off each song, but I lose the support of Divine Seal + Curaga for difficult situations.
Haha! :) I met a few Japanese Bards who hang out at San d'Oria's Auction house, upper level. ^^ They were having a little concert, so I joined it. XD The Taru BRD voice is ADOREABLE. The Elvaan and I sounded exactly the same, so I just played the harp. :/ But it's fun to kill time with music. ^^ [/ramble]
Damned Server Maintenence. I was in a great party, and we had just gotten Trick Attack down, when it strikes. I'm about 2900 tlvl30, barring any damage to my character data. I forgot to log out ; ;
That said, I pray one of the kinder higher levels in my LS is on within the next few hours. I want Ninja soon, dammit.
That said, here's some food for thought: A Non-Tank Nin.
Here's my idea: Make it a Nin/Thf. Also, make sure it's not an Elvaan or Galka, because they're debuffs won't be as good. Now, have the Nin use Utsusemi, and be the puller. He finds a mob, he pulls it. On the way back, the shadows will probably be downed. Anyhoo, proceed as a damage dealer for the fight. The higher ups in my ls are split on the matter, as some say a Nin makes an excellent puller, others say that they should only be Blink Tanks. There's a reason I bring this up, of course.......
I've also heard they make excellent debuffers, by using jutsu that will increase the enemies' elemental weaknesses. This of course means that he'll have to do a lot of research and crafting though >_<
<sorry this isnt on the NIN/THF thing going on right now ^_^>my brother has done 3 of them so far...
it's very easy...
as long as you have your 2hr rdy...
heres what you need...
at least 1-2 yagudo drinks...
1-2 ethers...
maybe a hi-potion or two *just in case*
buy some form of pie too
before entering the battlefield...
use a pie and cast your buffs...
then enter...use a yagudo drink and cast carb...and send to avatar
use 2hr and then use searing light...
should do 200+ dmg...
as long as your yagudo drink is up you'll be ok...
now run to the bottom or top...wherever the opposite of the avatar is...
use a hi ether...
now just keep doing this until you can use searing light again up to 3 times teh whole battle...
that should finish it ^^
I figure I can't pull through with my plan until 30, so I'm levelling Warrior up to 15 along with Ninja.
Ninja to 10
Warrior/Ninja to 15.
Ninja/Warrior to 30.
Proceed as Ninja/Thief From there.
Farm Alchemy and Woodworking materials in the process.
I'll help you out.
There are two ways to get to the server you want.
1. Have someone buy the world pass for you and send you the ID number, be sure to use it in like a week cause it expires. (Like it did on me).
2. Create a character, you can use the name and everything multiple times with this trick, go through the whole process, but when it says: "Attach to handle?" Hit Esc and back to the title and go to "Delete Character" there it should list the server your character would've been put on, if it's not the server you want, just delete the character and do it again and again till it gets you on the server you want. Just be sure NOT TO ATTACH TO HANDLE UNTIL YOU ARE ON THE SERVER YOU WANT.
Hope that helps, it's how I got on Leviathan.
Only time I see a sub to NIN other than WAR is WHM for under lv 10's who are soloing and THF for those who are faming.
On the topic of NIN/THF:
Here's the problem: Sure, the ni rank Ninjutsu aren't that bad (all ichi except tonko and utsusemi are essentially useless, 4s recast is too hard to rely on in a fight, plus I've never had an ichi do more than like 10 damage, even when they're weak to the primary element of the attack). A ni attack can do ~100 or so damage, only 1.5s cast, but 45s recast. The debuff is nice, if you have a black mage, however, this is your only use if you're not subbing warrior. A bard has thereondy spells, they work in the same nature as your generic elemental ninjutsu. However, a bard also offers a party Minuet, Madrigal, Ballad, Prelude. They sub white mage and are able to back up heal and help with other various things. A nin/thf can ONLY debuff. The only other tools you would have to assist you would be the extra ninjutsu, kurayami (blind), hojo (slow), dokumori (poison), jubaku (paralyze). Any other mage can more than likely cover these, if they're necessary. That's ninjutsu.
Physical combat. Ninja are not a damage class. Period. The only heavy weapon they have the option of is Great Katana, however, they cannot perform the later attacks with it at all. They have to rely on their dual wield. Katana are essentially daggers. They are very low damage, but quick attack weapons. Watch a primary thief fight with his daggers. He does terrible damage, yet attacks fast, building his TP so he can sneak/trick into a massive attack. Aha. Fuidama. Not going to work. Personal experience. I've fuidama'd a Viper Bite as drg/thf a few times for shits and giggles. Terrible damage. Also, you would have to rely on sword, dagger, and hand to hand for fuidama, because the katana attacks are primarily elemental based. Sneak Attack subbed only does 2x damage, in otherwords, it's a guaranteed critical. Trick transfers hate, and still can modify the damage, however, again, it's no where near as strong as a thief's trick. Katana has some rather powerful attacks, but they're elemental. They can sort of make up for their lack of overall damage in the same way thieves do, they attack quick and light to charge up for a big attack. However, they will never be even close to matching the output of a thief. They could take swords for higher damage, but there's a problem in this too. A heavy weapon attacks hard, but slow-- yet consistant. When a heavy melee uses a weaponskill, they have the full potential behind their one massive weapon to deal damage. With dual wield, you build that TP for only half your overall damage. Your weaponskill potential (unless two katana, of course) is hindered. A dual wielding sword/dagger attack does not attack twice.
It can work, and you might find it fun-- but I'm going to put this bluntly: a non-tanking ninja is a waste of a general xp party slot. Don't expect party invites too often. Honestly, I bet people will ask you "can you sub warrior?" when you tell them no, because it's underleveled, they'll probably just laugh and find someone else. It was enough of a pain to find groups leveling dragoon, I still have a ton of trouble finding groups on monk. These are jobs known for smashing enemies. If you've got the patience go for it. Otherwise, you're making your own groups, and the overall pace of the group will suffer compared to a more balanced one.
I was in a group one day with all female characters, except we were all guys playing said character. And this one dude kept following our party around and trying to hit on us. We kept telling him to go away. We finally blacklisted him. I am a lvl 19 warrior now on Titan. Getting close to Chocobo time WARK! I had to get my skull by going with 3 other lvl 17-18 monks and warriors and we talked a lvl 51 Whtmg into taking is unto the Gusgan Mines. She brought along another high level tank, and we still died a lot. But we managed to get our skulls. I lost around a 1000 exp over a 2-3 day period trying to get a skull.
...you died "a lot" in Gusgen Mines with a 51whm and a "high level tank?" I'm going to assume that it's the low levels fault people were dying, because they were running around like crazy just asking to be killed. I've helped in Gusgen many times before I even started dragoon on a 31 monk. I could solo two ghouls at once without too much problem. Normally I'd clear the four straight back from the entrance and just rest to full there and wait for them to spawn again. Skeletons aren't that hard, it's the dogs and the ghosts you have to worry about.
i totally agree...
even with a nin/war blink tanking in the beg...
he doesn't really do too much dmg anyways...
i would know...-_-
and i would imagine a nin/thf to do less dmg...
/war is the only thing that would make a nin/thf actually useful in a pt...
pre-12 i felt so useless in the pt...
so i highly suggest going /war instead of /thf...
just my opinion though from another nin...
I suppose if you're trying to be a puller, it works better anyway. I wasn't aware subbing Thf reduced Sneak and Trick damage. Had I known, I probably wouldn't have bothered mentioning it. On the plus side, I'll never need to bother finding chest keys. And I'll look like Thief in my full AF. I'll still have to level WAR though, because I'm going to get Ninja to at least 20 before I continue with Thief.
Heh, every time I try to play, I get terrible invites because people are like "omgomgomgNINJATANK." =/ I logged in today for the first time in a week (just super binged Naruto 1-83, haha) and I got a quick invite, but the party was rdm rdm rdm whm nin sam... at level 37-38... We pulled one, I maintained hate, which wasn't too hard seeing as there was nothing to pull hate from me aside from the samurai, but I used my stupid ichi's to maintain hate better. It took us about 3-4 minutes to kill one crawler, and it yielded 103xp. The next pull, there was a link, puller died. Pull after that, the genius tried to pull through the crawlers the other guy just pulled and died from, so there was a double link, three crawlers rape the second puller... ctrl+escape. Fake Linkdead is the best thing ever.
As for thief AF, yeah, it's nice you don't have to open coffers like other jobs, but you have some annoying coffers. You're a step ahead of all the other people who need coffers in Castle Oztroja, but you also have to run around checking spawns along with the 5+ other high level thieves who are coffer camping Astral Rings. It's a real pain. Since you're doing thf/nin, be sure to carry plenty of shinobi tabi. ;p
Then there's your body piece in Castle Zvahl Baileys. It's soloable, as (almost) always, but it's a huge pain. You pretty much have to use expensive prism powders and silent oils, as the place has the three main beastmen plus ahriman, demons, and elementals. In otherwords, everything is aggressive to at least one thing, some of them even aggro to magic. =/ One of the missions you have to climb all the way to the top of the place. After doing that, I don't think I'd want to solo a coffer there, haha.
THF AF3... oh my god. We killed Chandellier five times, I died once and nearly died a second time. That bomb is freaking mean. You can't let him Self-Destruct for reasons of you don't want everyone dying, and from what I've been told, the item doesn't drop if he self-destructs. So you have to have everyone in the entire raid engage him first, until everyone has their weapons out no one uses skills or spells, everyone just attacks. Well, I was doing drg/sam and had meditated to 300% on the way there. So we start the first fight, and given the okay to do our skills, so I had the bright idea of hitting Skewer. Yeah, he turns around and doublt attacks me for 540hp each.. almost my total hp. But we had to clear the skeletons in the area first, and the aoes dropped me below 1080. So yeah, the moment I hit skewer, I dropped to the ground. That sucked. The second time I'd meditated to 300% again, and I decided to wait until near the end of the fight to Skewer. He STILL aggro'd me the moment I clicked him, but the second hit missed, and the tank got hate back, so I managed to live near half life. Needless to say the next three fights I just sort of provided moral support, seeing as I didn't have the buffer anymore to die and keep level 60.
RPGuru1331
May 21st, 2004, 05:42 PM
Sounds like that Chandelier is a good enemy to bring a Monk or Samurai for, since both can stun with their Weapon Skills. But then, I wouldn't really know what works at that levels.
Michael
May 21st, 2004, 06:25 PM
Well, you could, but you'd just be better off with a blm or a drk keeping stun ready just incase it did self destruct. You wouldn't want to use a stun move in general just so he couldn't hit you right after. I guess it's an okay strategy, but you sacrifice a lot of damage for it. I just stopped using weaponskills on the punk. Well, one of the fights I used Double Thrust, haha.
If you don't have a drk or a blm in the party, usually a paladin or a battle rdm(after refresh/convert, mp is not an issue for rdm, really. My static rdm 54-60 was rdm/nin, and we never, not once, had to wait for her mp) will save their TP for Flat Blade. That way the true damage classes can stick to dealing damage. On NMs you usually just unload everything you can to get the fight over with asap.
Was wondering if someone could help me out on this......
What exactly do STR, DEX and AGI stats do for the char?? I heard STR +2 = +1 for attack, DEX +2 = +1 more chance of critical hit, and AGI is to hit faster. Is this true?
Also which is more imporant for a drk? STR or DEX?
Also whats more imporant for Drk, agi or evasion?
Michael
May 21st, 2004, 09:03 PM
2 strength = 1 attack
2 dexterity = 1 accuracy
2 agility = 1 evasion
In all honesty, as I've said before, the base stats are generally crap. As a Dark Knight, accuracy and attack should be your primary stats. If there's a piece of armor with accuracy or attack on it, more often than not, you want to wear it. After those two, you'll want to raise the base stats for a little more of a boost. Both AGI and Evasion pretty much mean nothing to you. While DRK can pull hate, if you know what you're doing, you shouldn't. You need to time your skills so that you don't pull things off of the tank. If you do get aggro, majority of the time it'll be picked right off again by the tank. You shouldn't be taking hits, so you shouldn't try to base your gear on..taking hits.
Evasion is important for tanks, most importantly ninja, since they don't have the heavy armor, a missed attack doesn't waste a shadow, meaning they can tank longer without having to recast an utsusemi.
Go to Sandy and farm Beehive Chips and Crawler Silk. Fastest money you'll make there.
Michael
Er. There aren't any crawlers around Sandy. Windy you farm bees and crawlers. ;p
Fishing takes awhile to get going, and it's profit on Odin has seemed to drop off. Like 90% of the NA PC/PS2 release players decided they were going to fish farm moat carp, and then undercut eachother. =/ Windurst is probably the best place to start it off for the fact there's a normal shop merchant aside from the guild merchant that sells little worms, so you don't have to worry about them selling out. Also, the fishing guild is one zone away, so if you make it to 10, a short run and you can lift the cap to 20. (reminds me, I still need to take my stupid cooking test, stuck at 30)
Silk works really well, I still farm silk from time to time, it's anywhere between 8000-10000G in Windurst, and usually no competition farming silks in places like Buburimu Peninsula. Tossing bee chips and honey into the mix is okay, but I prefer just focusing on one target, there aren't (m)any places with a high concentration of bees AND crawlers.
Riding a chocobo is the best thing ever. Anyone disagree? You deserve a swift beating followed by an introduction to my good friend Bubba.
I died once while out in Ghelbsa Outpost lvling my sub, and was teleported back to Jueno, however, thanks to the chocobo, I made it back to San d' in less than 10 minutes. Now that's service!
I thought chocobo were glorious until I started using warp scrolls all the time and I got my airship pass. All chocobo ever do for me these days is get me to where I'm grouping. Shame you're on Leviathan, I could get your airpass for you. ;p
He's nowhere near ready for his airpass yet. I think. Then again, I just got back from Driving Miss Daisy, so I don't know how my LS is at the moment. Ninja is still at 4, dammit. Unacceptable for a subjob. The fun part will be farming the Zinc for the Tenshodo fame necessary to do the Utsusemi quest. I might be levelling low level jobs for a while.......
You are planning on farming ALL the zinc you need to get enough Tenshodo fame? See you in seven years, man. I had to take about 25-30 sets of 4 zinc to the guy before I had enough. Your better at math than I am, so I'm sure you realize how long you'll be out there hunting down worms along with all the noobs.
RPGuru1331
Hm. 20000-24000 to buy all that zinc. Well, considering you get 300 out of 800, back, it comes down to less. I suppose I could simply farm the materials for Beeswax and sell stacks of that. But seriously dood, I need to level Ninja and Warrior, so I'll wait until I get Ninja to 10 and Warrior to 15 before I start buying the stuff. Thanks for the numbers though. I very well could have stayed farming the Zinc that long without a warning.
i bought all of the zinc...
cost me around 20k...
not too bad...
try to find a miner who will give you a deal if you buy all of them...
thats what i did...
i did the quest 25 times...
and i had more than enough fame to start the quests...
for the first quest you will probably need only one silent oil...
for utsusemi i suggest a couple...
Meh, I did my fame work with yagudo necklaces. Okay, sure, you have to do the yagudo quest a lot more to get the required fame, but the zinc drop rate compared to the necklace drop rate is a no contest. What I did was dump all of my gear except my weapon, I'd only done the very first gobbie bag quest at this point, so I had 34 open slots. I went to Giddeus subbing thief and just destroyed yagudo for an hour (having a wyvern helped, like every yagudo aside from the ones that drop keys died in one hit from lance one hit from wyvern). In the time it took me to fill my inventory with beads, I'd probably made around 3500G. I turned in all the items for the quest, 8 total completions per haul, 8x200=1600G. Using the ~5000G I made just gathering one batch of necklaces, I went to the AH, and bought more necklaces at 200per, 6400 to get myself another full batch to turn in, make 1600 of that back, still up 200G. Ran back to Giddeus, repeated the same process. It took a few hauls, but it'd also take a few hauls of zinc, and mining/farming worms for zinc is significantly more annoying than killing a bird in two hit an 7/10 times getting a necklace. ;p
If I make it into EQ2 beta, farewell FFXI, that's all I have to say. I still haven't had any true urge to play the game in awhile. I tried to play some EQ, but no one plays that game normally anymore, everyone just twinks and solos or powerlevels to LDON adventure levels then exp/aa/ap grinds in those. It's too hard to enjoy the game as it once was. Dark Ages of Camelot has always been screwed. It's like the first set of people to 50 were the only people to ever play, it's so hard to find a group in that game, even as a key class. Horizons is just terrible, period. Same goes for SWG. My friends started playing AC again, I'm considering trying that if I don't get into EQ2 beta. Bleh, my days are so boring now, haha.
I give up, fishing it just to slow and boring. I caught 12 moat carp and sold them so I have some money now but I think I'll just stick to farming silk from crawlers instead.
Wow there is so much you can do in FFXI I have been doing alot of research into it. I mean you can go mining, fishing, farming, chocobo raising. Is there anythign else you can do?
Michael
May 25th, 2004, 12:22 PM
The gathering skills in FFXI are even more mundane than stabbing things in the face for money. ;p
RPGuru1331
May 25th, 2004, 04:19 PM
Yeah, seriously, mining and farming are wastes of time, and there is no chocobo raising. You just feed one for your chocobo license. There is only one thing you should bother mining: Mythril. You can buy the rest, and at fairly cheap prices (Never buy Non-Zinc Ore from PCs)
Other notes: After Scar told me that you can get Tenshodo fame with Yagudo Necklaces, I changed my target. I'm now farming Giddeus for Silver Beastcoins, Beehive Chips (Alchemy can be expensive, so I'm farming the chips for beeswax myself), and the Necklaces.
Current Plan:
Farm Giddeus for my Tenshodo fame
Get Utsusemi and the other scrolls
Get my RSE. I need new Armor, and the RSE was the best there for a Thf, since I couldn't buy any dex boosters. And since the hard part of RSE is a chest......
Level Ninja to 10
Level Warrior to 15
Level Ninja to 20
Camp Lizzy and Jack.
Level Thief some more.
Farming for gil is a given, I just don't know when I'll be doing it.
Camp Lizzy and Jack? Have you tried doing that before? It's not exactly easy with the 15 other uber Japanese running around trying to do the same thing. If there are any Rangers there then you might as well go do something else.
I do realize what I'm getting myself into, although I thank you for your warning. I'm waiting until after I level Warrior up to 15. That way, I can voke them. Seriously though, I have the time to camp them. As has been said somewhere, you farm the gold for their drops if you only have short blocks of time. You camp them yourself if you have a lot. I also want the emperor, but he'll have to wait until I hit 35 or so.
The thing with these spawns you mentioned is they pop in large open areas lottery with any of the same type mob. Basically, there's a huge surface area of rock lizards that can be repleaced by a chance Leaping Lizzy spawn. Spells like Dia and Stun are sure to pull the spawn before you can provoke, and if up against a rng/thf, they can track lizzy and pull with Shadowbind, which is just as effective as provoke. Power to you if you really want to try, but I've known people to literally stay up all weekend camping emperor and not get it once. There's too much luck involved for me to even care to try. I'll stick to not so contested easy farming. ;p
I need some information. I love being a RDM, greatest job I've messed with the whole game, but there is a problem, I'm broke. I can't seem to find anything worth farming at all, and my craft skills aren't exactly uber either. So I need to know something good to farm for my lvl, which is 20 and where to find it. I'm asking cause even though my shell offers to help, I don't like handouts of gil.
Maybe I should replace "Camp Lizzy, Jack, and the Emperor' with "Farm up gil for their drops" And trust me, I know the prices.
Oh, and DRL, you can start camping Giddeus. At 20, you should be able to take the beginning of it no problem.
Your target: Yagudo Necklaces (Either turn them in for Tenshodo fame or Sell them for about 4 times the profit), Beastcoins, and Beehive Chips. Godspeed.
Crawler Silk around Windy is also good. And never underestimate the laziness of people. You can normally buy items from the local NPC and sell them for a profit at the AH.
Michael
Yes, I'd much rather farm money to buy them than attempt to farm them. Sadly stuff like that spawns in terrible farming areas, so you can't try to balance the wait time with other items. Unless you want to farm like, silver beastcoins. HO BOY. ;p
And yeah, get your tenshodo fame up early, make some extra cash, then when you get your Kazham keys you can head to Norg and get the ninjutsu scrolls and sell them. Utsusemi:Ichi on Odin bounces around between 70,000 to 110,000. It'll take a lot of necklaces though. ;p
Yeah I know, I remember when I first started bard I bought the first 3 bard spells for 500 gil each. A friend of mine was in bastok and bought the next 7 spells for me for less than 400 gil for all of them from a shop.
Silver Beastcoins made some money for me in Giddeus....
Although Crawler Silk is better. I got the price of Riceballs down to 158 from 163 after I brought in about 100 necklaces, and 3 runs of Zinc Ore from earlier on. I just need to bring it down to 156. After that, I'll do the Tonko: Ichi quest and the Tenshodo Invite quest and I should be gold.
