i found out taurus mobs in sacarium can see through doors

Are the untold details rated R?

Anyway, the Wings of the Goddess soundtrack I ordered (or Crusaders of Altana...as it were) was just sent. I've been pretty pleased by the music of the soundtrack thus far.

EDIT: I just found out it comes with 3 unreleased Treasures of Aht Urhgan tracks: notably the music for the fights against Alexander and Odin. I wonder if the third is the more militaristic sounding version of "A Puppet's Slumber" (Aphmau's theme).

So guys, ffxi on the pc, I have daul window mode working except the fact I can't change between screens? What on earth is going on?

Edit: Fixed it but now when I click on the other monitor it minimizes FFXI?

If you're looking for easy money without camping NM's. Kill Crane Flies in Meriphatud (sp?). They drop Gausebit grass at a decent rate and are only lvl 30ish. Depending on your server they go for 600gil to 2k gil for one grass. With a 70RDM/THF i usually average 60-70 drops per hour.

On a side note, i hate Mee Deggi. 7 kills and 7 pairs of Impact Knuckles. I want my kote!

it was actually kind of hysterical. He had caught sight of me and killed me just as I passed thru the door. The door closes, I wait a few seconds and stand up, and all of a sudden *whap* his claw reaches through the door, and I am dead, and I am like what the hell just happened. Then I see his claw turn and hear him walk away after having killed me a second time (guess he knew I wouldn't have reraise after that. One a positive note, our LS has started doing ENM Sheep in Antlions Clothing. The first time, we got crap drops and won with like 10sec left. 2nd time, I didn't make it because I couldn't get the miasma filter because I kept falling off the mountain and got pissed and warped back to town and signed out. This third time though, I went early by myself and climbed the mountain to make sure I got it down without distractions. So we do the ENM, we took out the main NM without ever seeing the other antlions, so it took like 10min. But the best part was, that a Hagun dropped, so from the sale and split, my gil went from like 5k, to 205k :D Tried COP 4-3 again, with a pretty sizable alliance. Problem was, alot of us had maximum fomor hate so we were pulling hate in the middle of the fight, and we ended up wiping. We are going to try again after everyone erases their fomor hate.

Zero, the PM4-3 Ghost NM and his minions can be duoed by Beastmasters with charmed IT hecteyes. It's simple as sending the pet to the main ghost NM and just sit back and watch. Reward is a must. Grats on Hagun.

Finally, Moogle Bonanza (http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/guide/mogbon/index.html) was announced on PoL! The rewards are listed at the site and I am drooling at the first, second, and third prizes. Some of the rewards for the 1st rank includes: 100 million gil, Kraken Club, Ridill, Salvage body, and HQ abjuration body, Hofud, etc. Which would I pick? 100 million, of course! With that amount of gil, you can even attempt to upgrade a relic weapon; but it's still not an easy task. I already have a Heca body, so, don't need that. Salvage body is tempting (Skadi .::drool::.), too, but doesn't compare to what 100 million can do.

If I had to pick from the second prizes, I would probably go for the gil as well. Although, the Assassin's Armlet is tempting. Homam would be nice, too.

From the third prizes, I would definitely pick Assassin's Armlets.

I'm angry at them offering Rain Hat as one of the 4th rank prizes since I have one and I love it due to the rarity of it. (I'm sure some people will say the same for many items here, but winning a 4th rank prize is more realistic compared to first). I will be sad if I see many people wear a Rain Hat. No one is the right mind would pick take the 100k over other items here.

Awesome. I probably won't win anything big, but hey I will certainly try for the 100 mil. Heck with that kind of gil, you could pay a ls to get you alot of the other items on the list. 100mil in todays server economy would be like a billion or more when gilsellers were bad. Heck, thats like 5,000 dollars worth of gil if you were to try and buy it figuring at 50 bucks a mil

So I'm 150 exp away from level 50.

We did something called Brenner the other day, really wish it didn't cost money to do. It was a lot of fun. We had one guy in our LS who was hell bent on killing me, a good portion of the match was him chasing me around in cirlces while I kept sleeping him.

What I don't get is, brener doesn't really have rewards so why should it cost money to play?

Lunay
May 6th, 2008, 12:44 AM
Good question on why they charge for Brenner. I still prefer the good ol' Ballista, though. I haven't Ballista'ed in such a long time but, oddly, my LS is having a meeting tomorrow night in Diorama-Abdblahblah since we have been slacking off lately during events. I think, it will be fun to let off some anger by slaughtering (or get slaughtered, vice versa) LS mates. ::laugh::

I like the WoG soundtrack myself and loving it also, especially, track 15 (Cloister of Time and Soul) and track 16 (Royal Wanderlust). I probably like Cloister of Time and Soul because it reminds me of some of the songs from Bjork's Vespertine album.

I'm pretty excited about the new Nyzul Isle weapons (http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/topics/special/080502.html) becoming upgradeable. The rumor is that those weapons will include a new WS and I certainly want one for my Thief or any of the 75 jobs that I have. What's funny is that there is one weapon called Laevateinn for a BLM, and that reminds me of the Lucky Star MMO episode (http://youtube.com/watch?v=eafz0jkUvXA) (segment starts about 2:00 in) where Konata goes farming to take a break from her studies. Anyway, I hope those weapons aren't too hard to upgrade.

Even though I've probably heard it a hundred times in the game now, somehow Track 10: "The Cosmic Wheel", the music for West Sarutabaruta [S] sounds so much better when you can just sit down and listen to it in a non-playing setting. "Echoes of a Zephyr" is good too.

Hmmm, why did they change the title of the expansion for US release anyway? The 22nd track of the soundtrack (for the opening menu) is called "Wings of the Goddess".

Just don't use any dagger during EXP as a Bard, Prons. Use the lvl.51 elemental staves to lower resist rate on songs such as Elegy (earth) and Requiem (light). Also, Dark Staff for MPh +10. Bard becomes more valuable as you get access to Mage's Ballad II and Carnage Elegy during the 50's. You should level up fast in ToAU area. 75 in practically no time. But first, enjoy wearing your first pair of AF armor.

Did dynamis windy, which I needed for northlands access. Got the win, and during the run a pair of valor leggings drops. It was only my 2nd run with this group so I was kind of a probationary member, so I am not supposed to lot. The one pld who was elgible to lot got the boots. No big deal to me since I got crimson boots anyway. So a little while later another pair drops. There is one other pld there, so I let him have them. So a bit after this a 3rd pair drops. So I was like guess I am the only other pld here, so I will take them. So know I have 3/5 of my Relic gear and with the win, got access to Northlands

ZeroRyoko1974
May 28th, 2008, 08:36 AM
I guess if you beat the Shadow Lord in Dynamis-Xcabard you could say you have beaten it. Each Dynamis Zone has a unique boss you have to defeat for a "win" and the first time you beat it you get a key item. Collect 4 key items from the cities (Sandy, Stok, Windy, and Jueno) and you get access to Dynamis-Bedaucine Galacier. Defeat the boss there and you get the key item to access Dynamis-Xcabard in which you have to defeat the shadow lord himself. What happens then, I am not sure as I have not beaten it yet. There are also COP Dynamis areas, and I guessing that you will have to defeat some form of Diablos.

bard maat....i wonder if it'seasy. All I remember is that RDM was a pain in the arse.

Lunay
May 30th, 2008, 03:15 PM
I have done the 70 limit break for all 6 of my 75 jobs (thf, blu, cor, bst, rng, and brd) and I have to say Bard was one of the easiest; I first broke the cap with Thief and it was by far the easiest since all I had to do was steal a warp scroll from Maat. ^^;

With Bard, I recommend using a sword; if you can wait until 70 and somehow get yourself a Joyeuse, it should be an easy win. Earth/Terra Staff shouldn't be bad either for the minus damage taken bonus, but I'm not sure how consistent it's WS will be. Same with dagger. But Soul Voice Requiem will do most of the damage so all 3 should work with no problem.

It's really simple, all you do is go in with a Blink Band, get TP using Opo-opo Necklace, Soul Voice double Paeon yoruself. Elegy and Requiem Maat, and Finale when necessary. Bring lots of Hi-potions and wear lots of defense gear such as the Carapace pieces (DEF bonus triggered by <HP%) or the Darksteel pieces (for the minus damage taken). Keep your HP high as possible at all times since Maat can hurt you really bad if he decides to use Asuran Fists. Otherwise, it really shouldn't be that hard. (The stories of RDM Maat is something to be feared.)

My WHM is now 71 and on the way to becoming my seventh 75 job! (^.^)

I think Bard has a B rating in dagger, C rating in Sword and Staff. As long as you don't try to use the lvl.70 Rune weapons that Bards can equip but have no skill for, you should be fine. The only reason I recommend sword is because of the WS' available- Spirits Within and Fast Blade. I haven't tried Dagger (or staff) so I can't validate if Gust Slash or Cyclone will work just as well, but I don't see why not. Like I said in my previous post, Soul Voiced Requiem will should do most of the damage, anyway. Please keep us posted once you face Maat.

I'd say in a way Paladin got two new job abilities, because let's face it the general purpose of the new bard ability is going to be to give Paladins the MP song.

And I have no complaints! For one we finally get a job ability, and it's one we can actually use. Second of all, especially at high levels there's not enough down time for the Paladin to be running back and stare at me for 16 seconds while I cast ballad just so it can be overwritten by melee songs when the battle starts. Especially in things like Colibri parties or Imp parties where there's virtually no downtime between fights.

My dagger skill is at 140. It'd be higher but well, we had a high guy in our skill up party and he decided to wander off in the middle of a fight and die on the other end of the tunnel.

I'm not worried though. I'm gonna tame Maat!

PLD melee gear:

1) To be able to solo more effeciently
2) For WS
3) End-Game PLDs are pretty much PLD/NIN now. Since no Provoke, some people use ATK gear (in combination with PLD gear) to keep hate.

ZeroRyoko1974
June 16th, 2008, 02:04 PM
Yeah, pretty much since end game merit parties and such usually have dd decked to the gills who, even when holding back, are more likely to pull hate and if you aren't fighting IT++ mobs it aparently does a better job. Also the hate mitigation with nin, and lack of provoke, you need to do more dmg and have higher emnity. Also having a lot of haste I guess helps. I guess it even helps with /war since most of our damage reduction now is through our shield.

Can't I just go out there and whack the monster and not worry if I increase my accu by 2 that it will increase my damage by 200 over 1000 hits was a better then increasing my dex by 4 to increase it by 185

75HP in one slot is awesome, but it also has -75 fire resist so I wouldn't use against Tiamat or Suzaku or something. Last time we had a Bomb Queen run, I got a pair of Avengers to drop, also. Avengers is a wicked looking hand-to-hand weapon and I would use it if I had a Monk that high; until Destroyers at least. My Pup is 64, I think, and I'll definitely use it if I ever decide to level it.

I went to Seattle recently so I haven't had the time to experience Ixion or the Doomvoid Serket/Guivre/King Arthro, yet. I did kill few of the first and second tier Zeni NMs. I never liked Soultrapping but I don't mind earning Zeni this way. I'm after the Enkidu armor pieces for my Thief. :D

Wow congrats! Now you are on your way to 75 and merits. Small suggestion is to level Ninja to 37 if you haven't already because Bards are usually expected to sub Nin in a merit PT to pull off a 100+ chain/20k+ exp per hour. True fun has yet to begin.

You can get a furniture if you purchase an import but I believe the furniture code is limited and apply to first pressing. Not sure exactly.

Had to AFK a lot so I decided to leave my character at the Rose Garden spot. Checking back to see if it's up every 30 minutes or so and it finally pops. I have killed him many many times before with no drop but today is my lucky day:

I kind of felt like the thf/nin or rdm/blm should have been kiting brd dragon, but I ended up being tank for both, and after a loss of about 6K exp over 6 runs, we went 5/6 my run was the only one lost, so I walked out with 6k less exp and 33 less seals and not a single drop.

The total amount of rank 1 winners is around 56 isn't it? And 50 of them are from Shiva?! If that is true, there will be tons of extra gil that'll be circulated on your server.

I just wanted to win at least the 4th rank for a Matron's Knife. If I won the third rank, I would have had a hard time between Homam legs and Cleric's Briault. Second would have been Assassin's Armlet. But all I'll receive is a EXP scroll. :/

What do you guys think about Sha'ir turban (http://www.ffxiah.com/item.php?id=15153&sid=2) compared to the Walmart turban? I like the look of my AF hat but it doesn't really give me too much helpful stats (HP 11 mnd3 parryingskill5 and enemity-1)

Between those two head pieces, I would have to go for the Walmart Turban because I believe 30HP & MP + Haste 5% > 3CHR + 1% Haste and a tiny amount of mp; unless you can somehow manage to get the HQ version, Sheikh. Sha'ir equipment is cheap now (except the body) compared to what it was before and its useful for its price. If you can get into a Dynamis LS, you can try to obtain this (http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?fitem=4994) which is what I use for my Bard.

Other equipment alternatives are Yigit (body in particular) and Errant/Mahatma.

33+ Behemoth Hides for my server as of 4 hours since the Bonanza Moogle have been released and the price is going down fast! If I am lucky, it will go below 100k and I'll have my friend attempt Dusk +1's. XD I am very jealous of you winning 3 second prizes, Cris.

Prons, you can pull as a Brd/whm with blink and stoneskin but it will be hard to maintain a continuous chain since those spells take a long time to cast and the mobs will die too fast. The only time Brd/whm is accepted in a merit PT is if there is another Brd/nin in the PT or you have a Cor puller, I guess. I don't know which Norg quest(s) you are referring to but I would definitely do whatever it takes to raise Ninja to at least 37 because it is that vital. I'm sure other Bards would say the same thing. Ask them.

I only got the game in February or March or something, and I barely played it throughout that time. I think I only logged in three or four times over the past three months. But I decided to devote a few hours to it every day last week, and I've since fallen in love with it. I don't know why I was so unimpressed at first. There are certainly some elements that feel a bit "punishing," but I'm enjoying myself regardless.

Edit: Oh, and one question: when should I stop soloing? I'm only at level 11 now, but I'm starting to feel like I need a party.

Prons
July 7th, 2008, 09:52 PM
Most jobs stop soloing at level 10. Put up your looking for group flag (Menu, party, seek party) and wait a bit.

Partying is a ton of fun especially if you're paitent. The first 10 levels are really lousy by any standard.

You're a warrior, so you'll be very much wanted in parties.

The first role you'll fufil in parties is as a tank. Make a macro (Menu, Macros,) for your job ability provoke. Just go to a macro and write /ja "Provoke" <t>

Then just highlight a monster, use the macro and it will provoke it.

Basically alongside dealing awesome damage you'll be ensuring your party mates won't take damage. When the fight starts, provoke, and just keep provoking when it becomes available.

It's simple but fun, and they'll want you to do it in parties.

At higher levels you'll change from being a tank to one of the most ferocious damage dealers in the game. I suggest being paitent and sticking with it, partying is a lot of fun, but at lower levels it's kind of hit and miss, later on the parties become longer, faster and funner.

Take my word for it, I'm Bard level 75 ;)

ZeroRyoko1974
July 8th, 2008, 07:37 AM
Yeah, you can put up your flag to request a party and just solo in the zones north and south of Valkurm Dunes (or as everyone else calls it, the Dunes) until you get a party. Keep an eye it for several items you will need for a quest when you hit 16 (or is it 17, its been so long). You will need to get a Crab Apron which drops from crabs around the beach areas, Damselfy Worm which drops from those big yellow dragonfly things. Those two are pretty easy and you will normally exp on them so they drop quite often. The third one is a little harder, which is a magicked skull drops from skeletons at night in the dunes. These aren't as commonly exped on, so it may be a little harder to get. As an alternative, make friends with a high level Paladin (or anyone over like lvl 50ish) and head to Gusgen Mines where the skeletons are out all the time. Have your high level friend bash skeletons until a skull drops. Then take all 3 items to Mhaura and trade them to an NPC (I can't remember npc's name, he is in the far corner opposite the port. You will then be able to select a subjob. Being a warrior, and your first time through, you will likely want to go back to your home city and talk to your moogle and change your mainjob to either Thief, or Monk. Your subjob will always be half of your main jobs level. Once you get these leveled up a bit, probably to about 10-15 or so, you can switch back to war and use mnk or thf as your subjob

Been a while since I've played FFXI so I quite can't remember how transferring servers works. Would anyone care to explain? I was thinking of playing again, and thought I could transfer to a server a lot of fellow AN players are on for partying. My main issue with the game has always been finding a party. I quit a while ago because I was tired of waiting hours to find a party. :( I think I was level 25 or so Warrior.

Sometimes it does take a while to find parties, especially as a damage dealer. But the game gets funner and funner as it goes along.

First you'd have to call Square Enix and ask them about reactivating your account and character, then you'd have to pay 25 dollars to be sent to a new server. Personally I don't think it makes THAT much of a difference which server you're on. :)

The problem we're all on different servers, I'm on shiva (which seems to have a pretty fair pouplation but sort of an average economy), but the rest of the people here are on different servers :(

P.S. Usually when I'm seeking party, I just chat in my linkshell (I suggest you find a big social one, they always seem to have people saying things like "Anyone level 25ish wanna party?") or maximize the chat log and watch the simpsons while lfg.

Seems like it might be more trouble than it's worth, then.

I'm in a few fairly large linkshells but most of the people in them are high level. Few of the users have characters around mine. I dunno, I love how partying works in FFXI but I wish it wasn't focused completely on it. If I could solo efficiently while waiting for a group to form I'd be so much more happy with the game. It hurts since I love the FFXI world so much but can never get myself to stay in it. >_<

One option would be to level Beastmaster. You'd be able to solo to 75 and learn a lot about the finer points of the game. :)

Or grit down and wait for parties, I think it's worth it, the parties get better and more effiecent as you go on and later on your job gets more abiltiies and skills so you can really tear up :)

You can practically level close to level 30 from level 1 only on worms, solo. Ranger is awesome on worms since all you'll have to do is used ranged attack, and move out of range to interrupt the worms' spells. Same concept with Black Mage, but with nuking instead of ranged attack. I did the same thing with Scholar since you can activate Dark Arts. Practically, any DD should be able to solo the worms easily. One job that might have trouble soloing them might be White Mage.

Worms are everywhere:

South Gustaberg from level 1 to 5 or so.
Dangruf Wadi has some worms good from 5 to 9 or 10.
From level 10 to about 14 or 15, you can go to Konschat Highlands, La theine Platea, North Gustaberg [S] or East Ronfaure [S]. (I personally prefer the past since you can get regen, refresh, and extended food duration.)
For 15 or 16 to level 18 or so, you can solo Rock Eater in King ranperre's Tomb.
From 18 to about 24, you can go back to North Gustaberg [S] for stronger worms; the name is again, Stone Eater. ^^;
from 24 to about 27, you can solo the worms in Qufim Island.
I can't remember where to go for 27+, but you can do some research.

Aside from worms, other good prey is monster's pet. (For example, Beastmaster Giga in Qufim Island spawns a Leech pet.) These pet mobs are weaker than normal mobs. One advice is to be careful when trying to pull these since you don't want to fight the master as well.

Aside from Beastmaster, Black Mage is also capable of soloing to 75. (Well, more effectively after Ancient Magic become available at around level 50). There are other jobs like Dragoon (after Healing Breath is available) and Puppetmaster which can solo, too, but with much patience. Other jobs can probably solo with the right combination of main and sub-job (and a good mob). My advice would be to solo while you seek instead of just waiting in town while doing nothing.

The only problem with blackmage is getting the spells. Most of 'em can be gotten from farming monsters, quests or fighting notorious monsters with friends, or bought. some of the later ones get pretty spensive.

Personally I wouldn't suggest soloing, unless it's your second job or something. Soloing all the time to level 75 seems pretty painful and claustrophobic, especially since it's your first 75.

Don't go it alone!

Got 55 on bst last night soloing in bostanaux obliguette. It was working out beatifully for once in that all the bats were either conning dec or T. So I could take a dec bat, take down a t, release the dec and grab another and take down another t, and then grab the dec that repopped in the meantime. Then when I hit 55 i went to the basement in garliage citidal and tried some bombs. But the bats weren't lasting long enough and the beetles were to high. So I used the bats on the beetles and made a good buffer before trying a bomb again. First bomb I kill, a coffer key drops, so I go to the past and go to the maw to get behind the gates in the present, and then traded a carnation to the shiny light by the 2nd gate to get behind that gate and found my coffer to get my Bst helm

I do agree about how soloing can be painful. But on the other hand, some jobs such as the ones I mentioned (BLM, DRG, PUP, and BST) are not party-friendly, therefore, it would be more efficient to try to solo WHILE seeking. Not to mention the lack of people seeking to create a PT yourself for some, if not most, levels. (*cough* tanks). For BLM and BST though, the other option is to duo with another BST, or for BLM, create a manaburn. I have been in many manaburns as a COR and BRD, and it is highly effective even when compared to a standard PT.

To add to the lack of people, lower level soloing (especially, lvl.25 and below) is more effective in my opinion because of the fact that there are tons of horrible people out there these days. First of all, they rely on power leveling. Second, even with power leveling, the EXP is crap because of the level difference within players and unbalanced job selection. I am confident enough to say, I can solo equally, if not faster, than most people who level with a PT (again, specifically, level 30 and below using the worm method).

But I don't want to fully discourage you from joining a PT because there are good ones out there, which I think, is the core of playing FFXI and the best way to level. Finding a good PT is still a chance, and to make sure you are joining a good one, ask questions such as their PT setup, levels, camp destination, etc etc. I know I am very picky when it comes to joining or creating a PT.

I think I might actually try Black Mage, then, if I can solo efficiently. I definitely don't want to just solo, but if I can solo well while waiting for parties that would be freaking awesome. I had really wanted to make a tank, but it's not too big a deal I guess. If I can find a lot of friends and connections on my road to 75 BLM I'll just do one after.

Do you have any links to sites that would explain soloing as a BLM? Perhaps a FFXI wiki? Also, what would you suggest as a subjob?

At the bottom of the black mage page you can find guides for what to do in and out of parties. http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Black_Mage

It's not that I'm a particularly impatient person, it's just that I usually don't have that much time to play. So a lot of the time I would log on, look for a party but have to log off before or soon after I've found one.

FFXIclopedia is good, but it is still wiki-based so beware. I have corrected a few things for it in the past and some things still need to be updated. For example, I can tell the "MANABURN guide" (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Manaburn_Guide) is old because it doesn't have Corsair listed as one of the setup. Bard is good, but personally having both of those jobs, I can definitely say Corsair is even better since it can increase Magic Attack, Magic ACC, Refresh, MPh, EXP+, Sleep (with Light Card), Dispel, etc etc.

I also don't mind waiting for an invite, but I prefer to stay active and constructive while doing so. The best approach is to create your own PT, but there just isn't enough people seeking at times. You can "sea all <job, level>" all you want, but sometimes, people will not appear for hours or at all. You can either wait in town and annoyingly try to converse in shout or tell (god, I hate people that do that) to kill time, wait in your Mog House while being AFK, or you can try to be constructive by farming/soloing; the latter of which I was recommending on my previous post.

A lot.

Chains of Promatihia isn't a big deal unless you're an endgame player. I'm at 75 and haven't really made use of any of the new areas it introduced.

Treasures of Aht Urghan on the other hand is required. At level 50+ You'll pretty much be living in the Treasure of Aht Urghan expansion pack.

Campaign is a great way to earn experience/limit points. Not to mention there is some ubber great gear available in the past. Its not really useful until about lvl 55 or so though. WOTG is worth buying if only for the reason that you can use it to get behind all 3 gates in Garliage without the need for 4 people

Chains of Promathia is my favorite storyline as far as missions. Also, you get a nice reward (you get to pick a nice UBER ring; either Rajas, Sattva, or Tamas) for completing CoP, which I believe to this day, is the least popular for having it complete due to the fact that it can be challenging. I say, the true motivation for wanting to complete CoP is for the nice gears you can obtain from having access to certain areas for completing the missions. Just to name a few of these gears off the top of my head: Swift Belt, Voyager Sallet, Soboro, Sea Gorget/Obi, Minstrel's Dagger, Brutal Earring/Boxer's Mantle/Locquarious/Musical/, I know there are tons more I haven't listed. But you get access to more areas once you do more CoP.
It is not necessary to have access to these areas, but it is certainly a luxury which you will want, not just for end-game.

ToAU is a must like Prons said, just because people can't even begin to imagine leveling anywhere else level 53+. I remember when we had to grind our way to 75 in Ro' Maeve (otherwise, known as Moon) or in Sky versus Weapons or Golems, while fighting for camp because there were not many camps available. What they don't understand is I have been pulling off a EXP chain 100+ outside of ToAU long before most of the people with my Bard/Nin. But I do agree ToAU is better because 20,000+ EXP per hour is hard to resist.

WoTG in my opinion is starting to get interesting, especially, with the addition Dark Ixion and Doomvoid BC's. But honestly, Campaign Battle has gone down hill so much thanks to botters who sub Bard and spam songs. Hopefully, they will fix that with the upcoming September update.

So, in summary:

CoP: A luxury that not many people have compared to other expansion. Challenging but rewarding. Highly enjoyable storyline. Probably for the more hardcore, again, as far as challenge.

ToAU: Probably the most popular. Aht Urghan Whitehouse has become the "new Jeuno". You have so many battlefield events such as Salvage, Einherjar, Assault, Nyzul Isle Assault, the newly added ZNM, ISNM, a nice selection of Merit camps, mediocre HNMs, mediocre storyline. It's certainly the place to hang out most of the time.

WoTG: More solo content such as Campaign Battle, Campaign OPs, even the missions are soloable or low man'able. Lots of potential EXP camps which not many people use to this day. It's still relatively a new expansion so more contents are being added. But in my opinion, the obtainable items aren't as good as CoP or ToAU.

One Boss in Final Fantasy XI Takes Over 18 Hours to Defeat
One guild attempted to take down Pandemonium Ward and had to give up.
By Jonathan Fincher, 08/13/2008

Anyone who's played a strenuous role-playing game has probably encountered a boss that took an hour or more to defeat -- even with great equipment, fine-tuned strategy, and a lot of luck. But I doubt anyone else out there has gone through what the members of the Final Fantasy XI guild "Beyond the Limitation" have gone through recently (via Pet Food Alpha). They banded together to take a serious crack at one of the game's most difficult bosses, Pandemonium Warden. After over 18 hours of play and 20 different forms of the boss, though, the group still wasn't able to take him down. Eventually they all decided to give up, fearing they might become another cautionary tale of online gaming. According to one member named "Sylphet":

"People were passing out and getting physically ill. We decided to end it before we risked turning into a horrible new story about how videogames ruin people's lives.... None of us doubt that Pandemonium Warden can be killed. We just call into question exactly what the development team thinks is reasonable from human beings."

This does seem to contradict the message that Square Enix gives to all players when they log in (shown above). You can't exactly log out of a boss battle and then pick up where you left off. I've heard of people spending loads of their time just grinding or doing various quests, but it's ridiculous having to spend that much time on one single goal.

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3169336

Okay I have to say this is nuts people playing a game for 18 hours is stupid. You would have to have no life in order to play that long.

I hope you have a lot of fun in this game :)

http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Jobs I suggest this as reading, if you go to a page about a job you can find all sorts of info stats and most importantly guides to help you.

Warrior is really fun in party situations, during valkurm dunes (level 10-20 party area) you'll be a TANK (Using the job ability "provoke" to make sure the enemey is attacking you, the fierce warrior, not your weaker party mates), and then after that you can just sit back and concentrate on unleashing serious damage)

The best part is, warrior gets you a "stepping stone" into all the other damage dealing jobs, Dragoon, Samurai, Ninja, and a lot more. If you have any questions feel free to ask. :)

^ Besides thief, Warrior is easily one of the most forgotten about jobs in the game. Most people only think about it as being a stepping stone, but it is a great job, a very underrated damage dealer, easily up there with SAM.

Name: Vulpes
Race: Elvaan
Level: 60 Warrior / 30 Ninja
Nation: San D'Oria

What can I say, the job just grew on me. And being Elvaan, Aggressor is the most useful skill an Elvaan can get. I never saw myself being a Warrior for the long run, but here I am still leveling it. I honestly thought I was going to be either a Dragoon, Dark Knight, or Samurai, but I'm glad I'm not.

What do you mean by forgotten? Because I see tons of Warriors on my server and I welcome them into my merit party over Samurai, any day.. but that's just me. Underrated? If you are referring to the popularity of jobs compared to, let's say a Samurai, then perhaps.

Well, I love camping NMs and I decided to make my eighth level 75 job a Monk, so, I decided to camp the rare/ex version of Cross-Counters (H2H) right before I hit 50. I didn't even have the ToD but I tried my luck at Western Shadow, anyway. Well, he popped right when I got back from going out with friends, and I claimed him!

http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/7961/reta11wv2.jpg

This was about 2 weeks ago when my Monk was 48. My Monk is now 73 but I drefuse to continue my level until I unlock Destroyers (H2H). But I did unlock Asuran Fists (WS) about two nights ago when I hit 71. All I have to say is <3 <3 <3. 8-hit WS ftw! ^^

Looking forward to the September update and curious about the new level-change future.

^ Basically I was talking about popularity. I think you must be rare, most people would prefer Samurai I'd think. Warrior is usually back seat to MNK, SAM, and RNG, at least in my experiences.

It depends on the server and the people.

I play on Shiva, I don't see too many people with warrior as their main, but I sure know a lot of people who leveled it, it's a fun job by just about any standard.

Here we have a ton of Samurai, and a ton of summoners. I don't know if it's common place or not, but we have several "Summoner LSes."

But the only solid answer would be to check the census, don't have an imediete link to it, but it tells you which the most popular jobs are.

Prons brought up a good thing about checking the census when discussing popularity of jobs because that's what came to my mind. Well, here is the link to the 8th Vana'diel Census (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/The_8th_Vana%27diel_Census_%2805/16/2008%29#Jobs). As you can see, Warrior/Monk has always been one of the popular selection, but it has gone down a bit since the 5th Vana'diel census. But honestly, I really think Samurai main will reach at least the top 10 on the 9th Vana'diel census since they have become even more popular since the 2-hand update and the addition of Sekkanoki. Samurai is really useful for endgame. Then again, no other job will be useful for front-line jobs than Warrior.. but that is regarding sub-job.

I also have to question their usage of the word "main". I mean, how are they classifying the main jobs? Level 75 only or does 1 through 74 count? "Main job" is such a blurry word for FFXI nowadays, especially, since it's not common for players to have multiple level 75 jobs. I kind of laugh when people ask me "what my main job is" since I will soon have 8, and I love them all equally.

Whm/Blm has held the top spot for years now, but I also think Whm/Sch is now getting popular and could well be one of the popular combination for the 9th census.

It depends what their stat tracking is, if it's a really simple tracking system it'd just be which the latest 75 you got is. If it's more intriquite it'd be how much time you spent playing one job.

In all seriousness the most underrated job in the game is Corsair. Because it's hard to unlock and to the untrained mind it seems like a bard clone. Puppetmaster too.

At the gates of the town there will be "Gate Gaurds," who will give you signet. Get signet, it will help you gain\keep TP (Which you use to do your speical WEAPON SKILLS, the earliest one you get is like when you hit level 5) but the most important thing for you is it will make enemies drop more crystals, which you can sell. Find a market, and click sell, and sell the unimportant items.

That should be enough to get you some passable equipment. Don't be too intimidated by the people who already have high level jobs and thus can afford to buy the top notch low level armor. :)

Knowing SE, I will have to go with the first, simple tracking system. XD

Corsair might be classified as "underrated", but honestly, it's a pretty well balanced job in my opinion. Puppetmaster on the other hand is definitely, well, unpopular.. maybe because it's hard to forget the reputation they got when they first came out. Matter of fact, almost all of the pet based jobs (minus Summoner) are under appreciated in my opinion, especially Dragoon. I recently took Dragoon to 50 and was amazed at how well they can perform during the low levels; maybe because most of the exp mobs early on such as Mandragora, Colibri, and Triple Bat are weak to piercing. I also think pet based jobs became under appreciated thanks to people who like to parse but forgot to combine the pet damage with the player.

The ToAU jobs were kind of a let down due to the fact that Blue Mage stole the show from the get-go. But don't get me wrong, I love Corsair. I think SE did a nice job on picking Dancer and Scholar, though, since it made new viable main/support combination available.. unlike the ToAU jobs where it's not that common to see as a support-job (again, minus Blue Mage).

Dragoon is underrated? I never thought so, I see them everywhere and everyone loves that job. I've only known one corsair in person, and have only seen two or three others

Lunay
September 5th, 2008, 02:23 AM
Yes they are under appreciated in my eyes, at least when it comes to choosing front-line jobs for EXP. Yes, I have seen tons of Dragoons and there may be more that I haven't seen, but it doesn't mean they can't be classified as "underrated". The job may be personally loved by each individual player who is leveling the job and there may be lots of DRG, but again, I believe, they are not given enough recognition for its quality for party play. Endgame? Forget about it.

On the other hand, Corsair seem to be rare population wise, but they are highly valuable for party play and are usually recognized for its quality.

I feel that we are looking at the word "underrated" differently. I'm using the word "underrated" regarding a job's quality and usefulness, whether it be for experience party, HNM, or Sky, yada yada yada. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the word "underrated" and "unpopular" are two separate things. I only used the word unpopular to describe PUP because, well, they are. But are they underrated? I'm not sure on that.

In other news.. hit 75 Monk. Martial Arts VI is just amazing. ^^

Naraku
September 6th, 2008, 02:23 PM
I agree with Lunay, DRG is very under rated in EXP parties. I try to invite them if they are there, they are great damage dealers. They can dish out just as much damage as any job, maybe more with jump and the wyvern added in. And Penta Thrust is a beast, I think.

Corsair and Puppetmaster are both unpopular, but I think they aren't underrated, maybe PUP. I'd prefer a Corsair over Bard any day in my party, you still get the buffs, but you also get a decent damage dealer. They are just hard to find, hardly anyone plays them it seems.

Puppetmaster on the other hand is both underrated and unpopular. PUP is easily one of the best damage dealers in the game, I've seen them do some crazy stuff. They are unpopular because they are so expensive, I think the most expensive in the game. I've heard some bad stories about how much they cost haha. It's kind of risky asking them to exp with you though, I've seem great ones, and some bad ones. They aren't that good if the player doesn't keep their automaton tip top.

Also, about the Census. I'm suprised War/Mnk is higher than War/Nin. All I usually see is War/Nin. It has to be counting all low level users and such. I hardly see monk sub at high levels, it's usually ninja or samurai.

And it always saddens me that Elvaan Female is the lowest played race/gender, and Tarutaru is the highest, god I hate that lol. I'm not a fan of Tarutaru, sorry. Oh well, I guess they've charmed a lot of people.

One thing I"m glad about is the skill level for the first ws is lowered to 5.

Playing the first 4-5 levels without a ws was kind of tought.

I'm having problems understanding level sync, so in theory if me and a level 10 buddy wanted to play, I would join his party as level 75 bard and it'd level sync me down to 10 and I'd only be able to have the songs I had at level 10 and my armor would be "weakened" down to be level 10 friendly?

So in theory if a level 74 joined a valkurm dunes party, they could get to level 75 level syncing with us? XD

SEems great, especiallly for valkurm dunes, where the problem always is the members we need are always a lvel or two too high

The level sync sounds like something the game has been dying for. Spending hours trying to find a party, eventually finding one with the right people at the right levels, then disbanding after 10 mins when the WHM levels up and no-one really gets any exp anymore... ah, not good memories... let us know how it works out, or if there's a link you find to more info on it...

Am I the only one that isn't in love with this level synch thing? Why would any high level want to join a low level party anyways? The experience points would be so much slower, there would be no point. The only reason I could see this happening is if they wanted to skill up a particular type of weapon, or if they absolutely can't get a party at their own level.

But, there are problems getting parties at any level, all I see this doing is making it even harder for high levels to party with each other, since some will be drawn to joining low level groups.

Also, how would you, as a low level, even recruit someone of a higher level to your party? I just foresee a lot of useless /tells being thrown around asking anyone to join a party.

Prons

I can think of a whole bunch of reasons:

1) You want to party with your low level friend without getting level 10\20\whatever armor.

2) You want to party with your low level friend without levleing a new job

3) You want to help low level friend with a level capped fight but don't want to try and put together level 20\50\whatever gear

4) You're in valkurm dunes and there's no one your level

So, basically it's just because you want to party with a low level friend? I basically message with a few of my good friends during parties anyways, I don't see any particular reason why they have to be in the same party to have fun with them.

The system was probably made though for members being within 10 levels, and planning to party in a certain area anyways. Beyond that it really seems pointless just for the purpose of being in an experience points party.

Well when I'm having sex with a woman I like to be in the same room with her.

You don't have to be in the same party to communicate with someone. Maybe you get something more personal out of being in a party with a friend, but I don't find it necessary.

Well I am level 75 after all ;)

Which would make it even more pointless for you to use this system. I think you'd be better off just power leveling your low level friends rather than partying with them, it'd probably be more helpful.

Well not really, because if someday my bitches (Anime nation forum legend Soluzar and Anime Nation Forum Pimpette) decide to come back to FFXI that means I can power level them without being a power leveler until they get to level 40-something and then I can whip out my white mage. Here's my thought on Level-Synch.. I honestly think a feature like this has been long overdue. Now you can encourage your friends to level up with you regardless of level. Lack of tank? Beg that 75 Paladin friend to come join you. Although, some of the gear-synching for armors and such seem a little bit off, so, that "friend" will still have to buy gear for that level for maximum performance.

Level-synch is great and all but I also do completely understand where Naraku is coming from. If I was solely seeking for EXP for one of my level 75 jobs, I certainly wouldn't want to PT in Valkurm Dunes where the EXP-per-hour is ridiculously low. But again, if you want to have some fun with friends leveling a low job, level-synch can grant you that wish. ALL of my jobs are 40+ now, and sometimes, I do feel like playing a job during the low levels again because I know how to perform the job so well now that I am curious about it. (For example, Thief. It's not a hard job at all, but I love playing it and I think it'll be fun to try during the low levels again.)

This update has some exciting things such as the new Beastmen BCs, level-synch, increased & new Dyna drops, and Nyzul Isle goodies, and I am overwhelmed. (But then again, I get excited about every update like it's Christmas. XD). I only have up to floor 30 recorded so I won't get any of the new Weapon Skills, any time soon. (I think, it's like 3000+ WS points for someone who has floor 30 recorded. Yeah, no thanks). But I do have 3 weapons ready for BST, RNG, and THF. Reaching floor 100 shouldn't take any more than a month, though.. which is one of my favorite things about this update.

I thought level sync would be good for the times when there are 6 people in X place, and they would make a perfect party but they are 5 levels apart - that happened to me a lot.

It's also good for if you want to do a big linkshell party as an event, but no-one's got the right jobs at the right levels... or they sold all their low-level equipment...

Level Sync is good for the first half (around level 10 to 52-3ish) becuase you can get exp quicker at dunes during this time, especially with a PL (assuming you got a working pt). but after 53ish, it's better to pt with the same level range due to not only equipment, but WS's making kills quick

Correct me if I'm wrong, but at low levels you don't really need the best gear, especially if you're a damage dealer, because at lower level usually the only stats armor provide is like, defense.

tenshi_a

At level 18, the WAR is probably acting as tank and will have trouble keeping hate. There in the lands of death and misery that we call Valkurm Dunes. DEF is good for a tank, and food will probably be more expensive than clothes. At low levels your mages don't have much MP to heal you with, so you need your DEF.

I always found farming silk from caterpillars around Windurst - and selling them on auction - to be highly profitable, but it's been years since I played. At low levels, harvesting stuff from the field can also be a good non-combat way to make money.

Yeah there really isn't that much decent gear, str and dex wise. Besides the level 14 rings, your options are pretty limited.

Food is a big help though at early levels too, you can tell a difference between someone using food and someone not.

Actually at around that point warrior is supposed to stop tanking. At least that's what I found. And also your job ability (Berzerk?) makes it hard to tank ;)

I always found farming silk from caterpillars around Windurst - and selling them on auction - to be highly profitable, but it's been years since I played. At low levels, harvesting stuff from the field can also be a good non-combat way to make money.

It still is actually, a stack (12) of those silks will make about 10k gil on my server's auction houses, for the first half of the game that's not bad, at level 45 or something you can start farming Leeches in the marshland (I forget the name actually, I liked to go to the north west corner and have a group of leeches to myself) a stack of 12 beastmen blood from leeches sells for about 20k and sells like INSTANTLY on the auction house, matter of fact at that same spot you can get silk spools, so I guess depending on your luck or whatever you can make maybe 30k in one session.

They say later on the fastest way to make 50k an hour is fishing, I sure would love to make 50k an hour, I could get that shair mantle for bards in lie a week ;)

Speaking of rdm, I assume I'm pretty much just gonna be curebot right? Level 10 rdm now

I truly believe Warrior is one of the best tanks available until around 37. If they sub Monk, the Counter will proc often, especially during the low levels. And as for hate, Boost can also help tank since it adds about 1/6th the enmity of Provoke. They also get Defense Bonus at level 10, just like Paladin. As for Berserk, some people don't realize that you can easily cancel the effect after using a WS or any time you feel necessary. (But I know I hate canceling Berserk as a DD, so, I don't blame them for not wanting to do so. I do cancel it if I am getting too much hate and become troublesome for the mages though, just to be considerate).

And to the topic of low level gear options: Yeah, there isn't much option until level 20 or so.. nor is it required to get absolutely the best gear as already mentioned. You will most likely level fast, anyway. But at the same time, the items you buy from the Auction House can be resold so it's almost like renting. (With the exception of consumables such as food and ammo, of course.) If you can afford it, go for it. And again, as someone already mentioned, food will always be your best friend. Make sure you choose the right type of food for your setup and adjust accordingly to the mobs you will face, etc.

I would also like to add a few ideas for making gil as a low level. Fishing is not a bad choice. Moat Carp can be fished up early and sell quite fast.

Harvesting, mining, and logging. ToAU has some nice areas to do all 3 of those things. But some form of sneak and invisible is almost necessary. Mining in Mount Zhaylom for Khroma Ore is pretty popular with the RMT, though. Just a heads up. There will be too many ways to make gil when you have a high level job. Just browse the Auction House to see what is profitable and popular, do some research on how or where it is obtained, and just go for it if you can. ^^

I really don't mind dramatic as much as greed and immature cockiness, as you find with most HNM members. I don't mean to offend anyone nor am I trying to discriminate but.. from my observation, most (again) NA Elvaan males usually fit the latter description. People who play Galka are usually carefree and laid back. I find tarutaru players are usually considerate and thoughtful, yet, sensitive. Mithra are literally a mixed bag. Same with Hume. Again, this is just my observation of each player's real life characteristics reflecting through their choice of race .

Naraku

I don't really think racial preference has much to do with anything, people will be how they are regardless of race they choose. I've seen tons of cocky people, and the race is never consistant.

About farming, I used to farm in Saruta Baruta, and kill crawlers and bees, while tyring to get the spawn for Spiny Spipi. Lately, I've been farming in Pashhow Marshlands, killing Goobbues for Boyadha Moss and Tree cuttings, crawlers for silk, and bees for chips and honey. It's really an underrated area. I can get about 50k+ worth of items to sell in about 2-3 hours of hardcore farming. Then about every 3 farmings I can get a stack of tree cuttings which goes for 30k+ on auction house, so it's a pretty good chunk of change. I'm not a fan of killing the leeches myself, dunno why.

Once I get a little higher I think I might go up to Castle Zvahl Baileys and kill Ahriman for drops, it could be pretty entertaining.

The reason i asked this again cuz being a 18WAR/9MNK. I'm nearing 20 and enemy's constantly get way to much dmg on me. Since i started selling stacked items at the auction house "at first thought u meant sell to NPC" I'm getting decent gil to buy amour. Thank u for ur help anyway. And in my aim to get better stuff ,me and some low lvl friends are going NM hunting ,so my question is
can someone give a easier explanation of skill chains then on the wiki.ffxiclopedia site.

What mobs / area you fighting at 18? And you'll need at least 2 healers at that level, unless if you got a power healer.

Basically each weapon skill has an "element" and when you combine elements skill chains happen, I don't play melee so I can't give you too many details but like, if you had a certain weaponskill and someone else had a different one, you could try and do them in unison which would create a skill chain.

Also, I know you want to have the best gear possible, but I want to remind you at higher levels you're gonna need gear more than you do now, so try and exercise some restraint. THat's my advice anyway. :)

Auction House really likes to mess with me. Seems like every time I go to sell something that has been going for 10k for weeks, the price will drop to about 5k after I put my stacks up for sale. This happens quite often to me.

I guess I should try to sell more during the middle of the week instead of weekends. The laws of economics certainly hold true on this game.

Speaking of undercutting and AH manipulation, it seems like the RMT have been targeting quite a few items lately such as Flame Ring, Sniper Ring, Fuma Sune-Ate, etc. It's scary because I have those items and I don't know whether to keep them or sell them now before it gets worse. But it's not just the RMTs undercutting, some of us are guilty as well, including myself. XD I personally like my items to move fast so I can restock on them and get more gil. I do my dirty work on my mule so people don't get mad at me. ^^; But the difference with me is my undercut price isn't as drastic as RMTs.

My obscure NM hunt was successful this week. I finally got two of the rare/ex items I have been wanting for a while now:

http://www.ffxiah.com/images/ss/full/LunayqAFySl6V8jv1.png

http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/3971/taisaijin11qh7.jpg

Taisaijin involves extreme luck. I'm not speaking in terms of drop rate but more of random players preventing the NM from spawning, since the PH must be 'alive' for certain period of time. Eastern Shadow has a 16 to 32 hour timer from the time of death. I camped him for the last 4 days and finally finished with 1/4.

I also now have Nyzul Isle floor 90 recorded with 4 weapons waiting to be broken. It's amazing how many people go after the weapon without having any floor recorded. It is now rumored that for a player who doesn't have any floor recorded, it takes about 14,000+ WS points. Instead of trying to go after the weapon first, why not just focus on recording floors and getting the weapon as you go up, and do a few points on the weapon when you don't have a tag. I'm sorry for the rant but it's not hard recording floors, especially, when compared to doing anything over 2000+ WS points.

Who has been doing the new maze Monger runs?
I did 2 before they closed it down. Aparrently they had several glitches. The cost was 100k to some people which hurt LOL 100 gil is a lot better. Also they had an Issue with the Entry and it being unable to do multiple groups well. Then there was a lag issue.

I've done runs after they fixed most of the issues. I know a glitch that gets you your 15 marbles every run.

I can't believe that they cut the resale price on all the profitable items in half or more. It's just like they wanted to piss people off. I guess this is another attempt to thwart botters or RMT though. However, it also cuts out one of the only semi-enjoyable ways of farming too. What a shaft.

It probably means it'll take you even longer, depending on how you farm. Items like Beast Blood got their resale value cut in half. So, it just takes longer to make gil. Zi'tah is pretty dead now on my server, hardly anyone goes there anymore to farm.

It does suck for people who used those farming methods but I personally did not farm those things. There are other things which can be farmed if you do a little research.

Prons, if you can't afford to get a Sha'ir Manteel, Yigit Gomlet is a nice alternative. It's practically free. Just need to raise Assault rank.

^True, but the drop rate on beast blood was so friendly, it was always more enjoyable than just your regular item/gil hunt. In terms of gil/hour though there are better options.

Is there any real point to meriting bard?

Lately I've been playing RDM, right now it's level 21. The new level sync thing is kind of discouraging, becuase i can't help but shake the feeling it means I have to spend the entire game in valkurm dunes :(

Just make your own party for your level. Or just refuse to sync in the dunes. Level sync does get annoying though.. unless you're the party leader. It always works in your advantage then haha.

Meriting on Bard is nice because Bard is so vital and you will get invited right away. You can merit non-job specific merits such as Attributes, HP/MP, Combat/Magic Skills and Others, which are good for all of your jobs and will take effect even when below level 75. Bard specific merits in my opinion are pretty useless. Trabadour can be nice to have for things like HNM and other harder mobs for your elegy, but far from necessary in merit. I personally do not have any of the Bard category 2 merits to this day. Category 1 Bard merits such as Foe Lullaby recast or Minuet effect can be nice to have, but again, far from necessary. Once you raise other jobs to 75, you can just use Bard as your exp machine. That's what I do. XD

I just recently got fully familiar with Level Sync while I took Ninja to 75. My opinion is that you will get a broader PT invites from different levels, leading to less seek time. But at the same time, it can be more time consuming in the long run, especially, if you don't have your skills capped forcing you to find separate time to skill up on your own.

If you don't want to level in Valkurm Dunes then don't. As a Red Mage, you can get away being picky about joining a PT. Same goes for tanks. Leveling my Ninja from 37 to 75 recently, I refused to Level Sync below level 37 at the beginning, not only because I didn't want to level in Valkurm Dunes but because of access to certain spells such a Utsusemi: Ni. After level 40, I refuse to Level Sync below that because I would miss Elemental: Ni too much. So, I would put in my comment, "Level Sync 40+ Only", and it worked like a charm.

My suggestion is to just hang in there until you are level 40+ when you have access to Convert and the big spell "Refresh". When you reach that point you will get invites left and right, therefore, you have the choice of being more picky.

So after discovering this new Level Sync thing, I've decided to yet again give FFXI another shot. I love the game, but I always have problems leveling due to party issues. It can take hours to find one, and it can very well disband soon thereafter. I didn't have the time or patience to deal with that. However, this new system has given me hope! If I can only gather a group of people to play with me, we can level with each other regardless of our levels!

So, so far my attempts to get my friends into FFXI have been...not well. Most of them refuse to leave WoW, and those that don't argue they don't have the time. Lies, I say, but regardless it hasn't gone too well. I've only been able to convert one of my friends to FFXI-ism. Which is definitely a start, but not there nope.

So I come to you, fellow FFXI religious believers. Is there anyone who would be interested in leveling with me? I have previous experience with FFXI and am definitely no stranger to MMOs, so I can promise I won't be a burden. Right now we play on Asura, but we can very easily make new characters in a different world.

I canceledm y content id recently, not the game's fault, I just wanted to save some money and haven't been playing lately.

I had a lot of fun and played the game a lot less than I thought I did, turns out I started in June 2008 so I didn't quite make it one year. I loved the hell out of it though, it's just it's gotten hard for me to decide to sit down and LFG then play for two hours.

Like most people, you will be back... someday. XD

One of my favorite things about FFXI is the actual level grinding. I just love earning armors, doing research on each corresponding job for maximum performance, being in a elite PT where chemistry and teamwork is above average, etc etc. It's just a wonderful feeling. Unfortunately, inviting random players can be unpredictable (bad gear, no etiquette, no commitment, lack of knowledge). But at the same time, I also get a thrill from that same unpredictability. Maybe that's why I have always opposed anything static, especially when it comes to leveling.

So, a buddy and I are thinking of picking up the Van'diel 2008 collection in a month or so. We normally go back to WoW between semesters, but we're both seen and done most everything and our guild apparently 'sploded so what raid content is left isn't worth the effort.

Does the game still have that ridiculous thing where it just auto-assigns you a realm and if you want to change you have to keep rerolling or buy a pass?

Edit: Also, how are the lower levels these days for two players? I heard they were pretty brutal way back when.

No

There is now a level sync thing in which high level players can "be synced" to your level. So in theory people in the level 20 range could come party with you guys in Valkurm Dunes (the level 10-20 leveling area) without having to buy armor or anything. So it's a lot better, if you have the paitence. I got to level 75 before such a thing was implemented.

I don't play FFXI anymore, not because I don't like it, but just because I lost steam and wasn't sure what to do next , and also because I didn't want to spend the monthly money anymore

At lower levels you can break the rules more, and a lot of the guys you're playing with will probably have power levelrs come and help you.

At higher levels it's more important to have a sturdy party, but partying becomes easier in general. The game gets really good past level 20.

Leveling wise, the game is still more effective with a party, in my opinion. But with new features such as Campaign Battle and Fields of Valor, soloing or low manning can be as effective. Plus, they raised the EXP from killing Easy Prey and Decent Challenge monsters.

They also added Treasure Caskets to pre-Zilart areas (low level areas basically). These Treasure Caskets have a chance of dropping after killing monsters. The blue Treasure Casket contain helpful temporary medics, making soloing or low manning even more possible. The brown Treasure Caskets are locked, which you must figure out the combination with clues given. If you successfully open the brown Casket, you can obtain non-temporary medics and/or rare/ex armors/weapons.

It's far from brutal like it use to be, hence, reaching level 75 isn't as rewarding as it use to be. Still, the the thrill of leveling up hasn't faded one bit.

Well, I'm heading back in.

I played FF11 when it first came out for PS2 in 2004 but my PS2 died, and some things about the game irked me, so I gave it a rest in early 05.

Now, I'm back. After 4-5 years, I decided to finally get the 360 version with all the expansions, as it was only $15, and take advantage of the free trial.

I stopped playing before jobs like Corsair and Blue Mage were added.

I also stopped playing before these tweaks I keep hearing about were put in to place that makes soloing easier and the like.

So, I'm back. I did love the game when I played it in 04. The music, areas, and overall aesthetic of it. So I always had mixed feelings about giving it up.

Before, I played as a Hume, RDM, and started in Bastok.

This time I want to play as a Mithra, just to do something different, and start in one of the other nations. I'm still not sure about the job, but I've heard Black Mage has a lot of solo potential if you know how to play it right.

I took Dragoon to 75 about two months ago for #11. It's not that popular as far as endgame goes, but it's a really fun job. I'm about 150 levels (6 jobs) away from Maat's Cap. I'm not sure if I should go for it.

Is it just me or does it seem like the population has gone down lately? I usually play at night and it seems like the amount of JP shout has decreased. Number of online players was around 1000, too. I never thought I would say this but.. with the announcement of FFXIV and seemingly population decline, guillotine is slowly coming down on FFXI.
