Naruto X Sasuke - They really are!

I had a funny idea, but notice in the 1st opening of Naruto when Sasuke pulls Naruto out of the water, the lyrics come to "Fighting and being in love"?

I think that really suggests those two are definitly lovers lol. Poor Hinata and Sakura... oh well, they can always hook up, maybe Hinata can teach Sakura how to fight, right? lol

Yeah... the reason I became interested in Naruto was because the fangirls are crazy over this Naruto x Sasuke thing. Not that I think they'd make a good couple or anything, but they do look cute together.

*giggles* Whenever I think of that pairing I feel all bubbly and happy. I know there isn't a lot of hard evidence to support them as an actual couple, but there are lots of little hints everywhere. I think the accidental kiss was what started my infatuation with the SasukexNaruto pairing.

Then there is episode 16... :bawling: Geez, I can't watch that episode or read that particular chapter in the manga because I always cry. ^^;;

Hell, one of the reason I got into Naruto was the possible shounen-ai implications between Sasuke and Naruto, and that was after the second episode (they shouldn't made them kiss, it'll spur any rabid yaoi fangirl out there, but then again I had mentally paired them up since the OP credits of the first episode...). I also find the premise for most of the SasuNaru yaoi fanfiction highly amusing, even if I just read the summaries.

I'm yet to actually see or read this Naruto series... though in the first issue of Shonen Jump (the only issue I have), I did see some of the artwork and I was immediatly like "Aww! How cute!" And I eventually started hearing all this talk of shounen ai and such... ^__^ Plus, it looks very shota-ish! They're very young, ne? I thought I heard that they were 12 or so... ~hopeful~

But anyways, from what I've seen I don't like the Naruto x Sasuke pairing much... but maybe other Naruto couplings!! XD

Heh. You should definately read more into the series, Shota-kun. I'm sure you'd like it. Characters like Naruto and Sasuke are around the 11 or 12ish age range I think. ^^

The series is definately worth it, but the movie I'd suggest holding out on until you see the series and read a little of the manga. I liked the movie because the animation was good...and that was about it. xP Kamui is awesome. He's my favorite character, really. He's so cute. :crush:

*shrugs* Your opinion. I think there are far more valid points to Sasuke and Naruto's relationships then most of the stuff out there in Naruto fandom. That's why it's such a popular pairing, because not everything in it is just made up or in people's minds. Whether they care for eachother in that way or not, I still really love their relationship. One translation of a Naruto chapter had their relationship described as a "platonic love" by some scanlations, though the most popular scanlation group didn't chose that wording, they tend to take the most non-shounen-ai route as possible to their translations.

Not just that song has SasuNaru hints in it, ya know. In the song, "Hajimete Kimi to Shabereta" it's talking about someone finally getting the courage to talk to someone they had a crush on. And although there is one picture of Naruto staring at Sakura, there are two, the first and last, of Naruto staring at Sasuke. I reckon there's a pretty good case for it, judging by all the clues. And besides, it's obvious Kishi has a thing for 'campy' male characters. I mean, the manga is full of em'. Haku, Kimi, ol snake eyes (Orichimaru), that dude with two heads who clearly looks like a girl, even Itachi paints his fingernails and wears pretty beads and what not. ;)

I find that a lot of "yaoi hints" in shonen anime tend to be the creations of fangirls who want to find such things. I've seen loads of things that I'm told hint at relationships between characters that really, are nothing of the sort when looked at objectivly. Sure, some do hint at that, but most I suspect are just people seeing what they want to see.

I loved the translated Official Guide Book too~ ^_^ That's why I posted it. I loved the part where it added Sasuke and Naruto first kiss definition to the glossary terms, and the "Usuratonkachi = Sasuke's characteristic nickname for Naruto. It literally meant idiot, but now he's using it as a pet name!?" Or you could say, "in an affectionate way" .. and the scene where it shows Sasuke and Naruto kissing with the caption of "Will Naruto bittersweetly relax Sasuke's obstinate heart...!?" ... muwahaha, actually, I like it all :P

The idea didn't come from no where with the amount of Sasuke x Naruto fans. Everything is based on someone's perception and saying it's "the creations" of fans is true, but only because that's what people do every second of their lives, creating their own perceptions on the world. To me, it's really there, and when I look at it objectively, it's still there.

I just don't, admittedly, I probably don't remember many of their "moments" but all I can recall is one instance where Sasuke was using the curse seal and Sakura hugged him he stopped, and another where Sasuke said something *gasp* nice to her when she was doubting her abilities. Or if you want to count Sakura pouring her heart out to Sasuke and then him knocking her out a "moment", I guess. Haha! Quite right Carmel! Even though I know I'm a pathetic fangirl about Sasuke and Naruto and I probably do deliberately look for things that may or may not be there, if I put my objective hat on, I think there is actually less evidence to support a Sakura/Sasuke pairing than Sasuke/Naurto!

Sasuke has made it plainly clear that he is not romantically interested in Sakura, though he is obviously fond of her as a comrade. I never could get my head around the scene where Sakura makes out it's her biggest failure that she didn't stop Sasuke from leaving Konoha - as if he would listen to her!

And yeah, it is far more likely that Sakura and Lee would get together!! Having said all that, I don't think anybody is really going to get together at all - precisely because of the point you made Carmel!

I agree ^_^ I also don't think anyone will end up together - hence my love of fan fictions. Not just because this isn't a shoujo, but because by pairing up anyone exclusively with another in the series will cause so many people to be upset, there's just too many pairing possibilities out there to ruin fan bases... though you never know :naughty:

Not everything has to work on realism, you know. They were hardly in the series, compared to Naruto and Sasuke, who are at what the series is about. I'm not just going to pick a pairing because they seem more "gay" I'm going to pick them because of the way they interact, and the way Naruto and Sasuke interact basically has everything I like to watch in character relationships, albeit male/feamle, female/female or male/male.

My favourite parts from Thicker Than Blood:
Canonically, you can say that Sasuke is so socially retarded that Naruto is the closest thing he has to a friend, and that Naruto's devotion to Sasuke has more to do with his strength of moral character than any sort of romantic love. But still, you have to admit that there is something grand and sweeping to it.

... it's all about the emotional intensity. The storm those two kick up between them is absolutely riveting in canon, which makes it the most intense relationship in the series. There are enough paralells between them for them to bridge their differences, however everytime they do so, the contrasts of their personalities tend to make the gap between them that much wider.

Sure, their personalities would prevent a relationship between them. It's only common sense- they may care about each other a lot, but I'd hardly say that they're healthy for each other (I'd hardly say that Sasuke in general is healthy for anyone, least of all his two team mates, but that again is another essay entirely). But I don't like SasuNaru for the fluffy bunnies and domestic bliss. I like SasuNaru because it's so raw. My favorite Sasuke/Naruto fics tend to be the ones that sort of walk the line of being slashy, but don't quite dive into it fully. Even if those two were attracted to each other, I doubt they'd ever be able to exactly identify it or act on it. And even if they did, ahaha, that would be the relationship from hell. Which, for some people is what makes it fun.

So why do I think that these two characters are desperately, devastatingly in love with each other?

The easy answer is: because they are.

The fun answer is: because Kishimoto has given us more than subtext to work with- he's given us pure, literary reasoning. Everything about Sasuke and Naruto's relationship is a cleverly written paralell- dual contrast and compliment. There's a tension and intensity bubbling and broiling beneath their words and actions; something off in the way they think about each other and something unintentionally intimate about the way they interact.

In the end, their relationship can be ugly and unhealthy. The tensions between them are more emotional than sexual and there isn't much in their interaction that can be constituted as romantic. But there's inspiration, need, devotion and a mutual obsession. Their relationship may drag Naruto down, but in the end he is the only one who can save Sasuke's soul, just as Sasuke's return is the only thing that could ever make Naruto whole again.

If that's not love, I don't know what is.
