When I was at the video store yesterday, I was chatting with the guy about Fable and Star Wars Force Unleashed 2. He was talking about Star Wars and how excited he was to play it that night. I rented Fable III, and when I got home I noticed the guy put Star Wars in the case, ROFL. So last night I played 2 hours of the new Force Unleashed game. It wasn't bad, but not really what I'm looking for at the moment. It feels pretty repetitive, and when it started a "Robot ride" mode which God of War III started (and Dante's Inferno and Castlevania copied), I decided I was pretty much done with the game. Gonna take it back and get my Fable III rental at lunch today, haha.

Best $10 I ever spent on DLC! I highly recommend a game that has 6 hours of a story and a worthy multiplayer for again $10. Id think twice about buying Star Wars Force Unleashed 2, what was it a 5 hour story and no multiplayer for $60?

I got my Mew on SoulSilver. I'm glad someone at another board let me know about this event or I would have totally missed it.
Mine got a lonely nature which isn't the best. I didn't know I could reset it over and over when I picked her up from the guy at the pokemart to get a nature I want. Oh wells.
I have her all EV trained anyways. She's gonna help me delete the Johto elite four.

I would definitely recommend Guardian Signs for anyone who's ever been interested in the Pokemon franchise, but would rather have a more ARPG feel.

After having surveyed the previous releases of the series, Signs looks like the culmination of tweaks to the capture mechanic (which, as you pointed out, is done with your stylus) and Pokemon Assists (which are a lot more interactive than previous generations).

Also, the translation and dialogue of the Ranger series is infinitely superior to the flagship Pokemon games--which is saying a lot since Pokemon has some of the quickest and best quality translation in the industry. The humour, story-telling, and RPG elements are all very impressive for a handheld game.

The only other recommendation is to have you buy a screen protector for your DS if you don't already have one. Nearly the entire game can be played exclusively with the stylus and you're required to use it a lot, so wear on the touch screen is inevitable.

Also, one caveat. For being a game exclusive to the DS, Guardian Signs is an AWFUL travel game. Since most of the game requires the use of quick and accurate stylus maneuvers, trying to capture difficult pokemon on a bumpy car ride or crowded train is impossible.

Meanwhile, still playing Rock Band 3. Being the band's primary vocalist, I'm taking a break to rest my voice after this week's marathon.

Aliens vs. Predator (2010): Surprised by how good the single player is. Silly...but very good. They also stay remarkably in-universe, nothing seems remotely unusual (well, except for a single Marine being unkillable).

Amnesia: The Dark Descent: Great game, quite eerie. I've almost reached the end, just one last set of puzzley bits to solve before I get to finally finish the game (and get all endings at once)!

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed: Absolutely shoddy and crappy PC port, but the game itself is kind of interesting. Still, the plot leaves much to be desired -- while it's neat, it feels like they cut out about 25-30% of it and left the remains intact with loose transitions. Also, reusing levels with different enemies? In a game in this gen, that wouldn't be bad if somebody did it once and there were a bunch of levels, but there's nine, and two of them are repeats.

Dragon Warrior III for the NES via an emulator. Pretty good for an old RPG. It's pretty monotonous, though, but at least you level up quicker than you did in the first game. At least, I think you do. I was playing Dawn of War: The Dark Crusade a few minutes ago. My friend didn't show up, but I didn't expect him to. I have realised that I am trying to like it, and am failing. :/

It's not that it's just not Castlevania like (and it really isn't Castlevania like at all), it's just that it's really boring.Wow, really? That's surprising to hear. While I agree that it's sometimes a bit humdrum, I think its far from boring. Maybe its Patrick Stewart's sleepy voice that you hear between each chapter that's bothering you.

OT: This week I've been playing Vanquish and Final Fantasy: The Four Heroes of Light.

I'm kinda ashamed to admit it, but I had to put Vanquish on the easiest difficulty setting (Casual Auto). The funny thing is, the game is loads of fun to play now. You don't feel as limited for experimenting as before and you can actually play the game the way it was intended to be played; Fast and reckless.

As for FF:T4HoL, this game is old school. Very old school. So old school that you NEED to grind at least 5 lvls as soon as you leave your town. Its so old school that your inventory doesn't stack items, but instead you have one of each item taking up a very limited amount of space in your bag. So old school that you can and most likely will go through a three hour dungeon just to lose at the boss and have to reload your save from three hours ago. So damn old school I should have just put olde English form of old to describe this game.

I love it though. Oh, and this game is hard. FF2 hard..

Every other game I've heard Patrick Stewart in, he's been excellent. Especially when he plays kings and leaders. But with this? Ah, he's not good. He's just an old man with a bit of a cold, who's reading out stuff without having read through it beforehand to see what it's supposed to mean. I have to re-read everything he says in his narrator bits just to get a feeling out of them.

Doesn't help that they are written in that horrible fake archaic English that people who never read anything over a hundred years old thinks is how people used to talk. :|

It'll confuse the hell outta him; he normally does Shakespeare.

My mum really likes that sort of fake fantasy in TV and films, she might like this story, I suppose.

I don't know, I think I just have a nasty feeling of "Shadow Of The Colossus" about me*, I guess I always feel that "holy warriors" such as the folks of the brotherhood are a bit... unclean... and I get the feeling with what people are saying and with the scrolls I read through, that it's going to be yet another story about how some foolish man had to fight off internal corruption and darkness blah blah blah.

I dunno, that seems to be a fairly common theme in video game stories recently. I find it a very dull theme, being personally entirely incorruptable and it being impossible to relate to... :D

The fights and the "look for the shiny thing" platforming just seem boring to me, at this point. Oh hey I walked into a clearing where there's a big shiny thing. It must be time to fight another mount. [yawn].

The thing I've liked about the 2D Castlevania games on handheld were that they seemed like mostly exploration, with incidental monsters, culminating in bosses. It's up to you where you decide to try next - to the limitation of the power-ups you've found. It's your game, you are in control. But with this, I feel like I am being told what to do and where to go constantly, just to hear more of a boring story. Pick up the keys! Collect the runes! Find more shards! A, B, C. X, Y, Z. The small fights take too long, they do a quick-time-event type thing, they get in the way.

I tried breaking my play time down to "well, do one level and quit and play something else" so maybe it would be less boring... but it doesn't seem to have worked. Maybe I'm making it artificially long by doing that. Maybe it gets better and more varied soon...

* I have played enough zombie-killing games to know; dead girlfriends are very probably best left dead.

@Mickeymac: All you need to do is cast Zombie and/or Reflect on him. Every Curaga he casts will either hit him in the face like a ton of bricks or just heal you instead. I'd also advise "cheapshotting" with Yuna, that is, building up the Overdrive of the non-elemental aeons like Valefor, Bahamut, etc, and then Yuna's own Overdrive. Then summon the aeon normally, then summon again after dismissal for another free Overdrive.

I'd also advise using Tidus and Auron as backup members. Yuna will cast Reflect (can't recall if she learns Zombie...), Tidus will Haste the heck out of the party, and Auron is just a ridiculous tanking bruiser. Hopefully that helps.

I'd also advise using Tidus and Auron as backup members. Yuna will cast Reflect (can't recall if she learns Zombie...), Tidus will Haste the heck out of the party, and Auron is just a ridiculous tanking bruiser. Hopefully that helps.
I got that party configuration, but I didn't know about Zombie! I heard Poison was effective, but I haven't seen that work out yet.

Bio is pretty much useless in every FF game except for XIII. Zombie and Reflect utterly break FFX's difficulty, though. Nothing beats either of those two, except for bosses who by the time you face them will be pushovers. :P

Nope, Life won't work. It'll just deal damage but IIRC it's not as much as Curaga by a long shot.

Also, tip for FFX: fight every random battle. No, really. By the time you reach any given boss, the game is practically groveling for you not to kill them.

Tried to make some progress in MUSHA on the Wii VC, and I finally got past stage 3 on easy mode. Yes, I said easy mode. This game is balls-to-the-wall hard just on Normal. :(

Also recently started playing Zenonia and HYBRID on the iTouch, which I bought for a buck today. Man are they good, too! I haven't progressed much further than where I got on the free versions, though.

I do fight every enemy and then grind a 5 or more levels before I go to a new area for no apparent reason other than because I enjoy it. The problem is that I decided halfway through the game to send everyone down the wrong path, setting them back at least 10 levels, and far more for certain characters. Tidus doesn't have Slow yet, and the game is telling me I should have Slowga, and that's all because I sent him down the wrong path 3 times! >_< That's why I've been grinding like a madman. Oh well, I think I fixed the most Major issues. Yuna just got Curaga, for instance. That'll come in handy. With that and your advice, I think I might finally get unstuck. :)

I also fight every random fight, that's an excellent suggestion.

I usually go into the fight with full over drives for everyone and all the aeons up to that point, so that's a good bit of damage from the start.

You're going to need zombieproof, and deathproof later on for a certain tenticle *****.

This is true, but if you don't have deathproof or at least one party member with zombie on them you'll die when she casts death.

I think having an aeon out when she casts it works too, but that's risky.

I played a wealth of stuff over the weekend:

Puzzle Agent - my game of the weekend, cause it was awesome!
Cogs - Decent, but I suck at slide puzzles
Tidalis - Ugh, not my kind of puzzle game at all
Droplitz - Not bad, but not holding my attention too well.

Puzzle Agent is definitely the puzzle game to get off of steam current (and Lumines of course). It was funny, compelling, and challenging. I wish it was a bit longer, but hopefully they have plans to make a second one.

I really like Puzzle Agent, but it's either most of the puzzles are too easy that you end up over thinking them, (At least I did most of the time) and the other side of the spectrum are some were too hard, well...not hard, but some of the descriptions aren't written very well for you to clearly understand them. The "Arm Wrestling" and "Security Guard" puzzles in particular.

I actually got those 2 right my first try, for the right reasons. A couple puzzles irritated me cause I followed the rules and got rejected the first time, like the "football players break all the glass panes" one. I modified the route slightly and it was accepted the second time.

Oddly enough, the puzzle that tripped me up the most was the "Which hotel room are you staying in" puzzle. Like you say, I was over thinking it, trying to figure out some sort of algorithm, haha.

Currently:

Arcade Hits: Shienryu (PSN/PSP): Lol, hard. Hardcade? It's a vertical scroll shooter that isn't bullet hell, in the same vein as the 1942 franchise. Very fun, if difficult when you're only a periphery player and not too skilled at shooters like this. I've only made it to stage 2's beginning to promptly die, it's pretty tough. No idea how many stages there are. Upon googling, it appears there's eight, with a second loop where bullets go faster in the same stages. How devious!

Metro 2033 (PC): Wow, very atmospheric, and pretty taxing graphically. Surprised this hasn't overtaken Crysis in terms of benchmarking, it's perfect for it considering how stressful it is. Intriguing plot so far, currently toting an AK.

Pokemon Platinum (DS): Definite improvement over D/P, but still needs a little bit of work. Why am I still required to juggle more than one HM slave? Surely half the HMs in the game is enough to traverse Victory Road! The levels overall are a bit more balanced too -- Gym Leaders no longer possess insanely higher levels than average trainers, while the average trainer has been buffed slightly. I hear the E4 was dropped a bit, which should make them a pushover when I finally get to the League. :P

Donkey Kong Country Returns: Easily the best Donkey Kong Country game as far as design. They cut out all the clownish characters and frustration-collection mini-games that plagued the later Rare games (Donkey Kong 64 in particular). It resembles the first DKC the most in being about finding secret rooms and enjoying how the stages change around you, effecting music, visibility, etc. Like New Super Mario Bros Wii, it can be disorienting at first playing simultaneous multiplayer (more so because we're both brown and red), but it's still a blast.

It's a very slow pace for a platformer/adventure game. And a lot of the gameplay is fetch quest and hide&seek, not the funnest gameplay mechanics. So I finally beat Chrono Trigger DS. I left it on the final boss for almost a year, dunno why it took me so long, but I'm glad I finally finished it. I got Ending 01 and it was great. I think I'll do the Post game stuff then do a new Game Plus this summer when I hopefully have fewer games to play.

I'm working my way through the Sly Collection slowly but surely. I'm about 40% through the first game, according to the progress meter that pops up everytime I get a new page from the Thievius Racoonus.

I'm loving the game so far, and the HD transfer looks really good.

I really hope Insomniac Games and Sony release a Ratchet & Clank HD collection for the PS3.

It does my heart good to know someone else out there is enjoying the Sly Series.^_^ Which reminds me, I'm only halfway through the first two games! O_O Maybe once I'm done with Super Mario 64 I'll get on that.

Funny thing is, I played only a bit of Sly 1 back in the PS2 era, tho I bought all 3 of the games. I used to sell them by the tons to people while I worked at gamestop, especially to parents looking for good games for their kids. However, now that I'm playing through the games, I'm thinking they might be kind of hard for kids. However, when I was a kid I was beating games like Contra and Mega Man, so I guess maybe I'm just not as good as I used to be.

The Sly series was the one that taught me to stop fearing failure in video games. Though to be quite honest, the first game is the only one that's all that challenging. It's a very strict game, hence why I've yet to beat it. :( Hopefully it just means you gave some kids some real cojones. :P

I'm on the road so my DS is getting lots of use.

Golden Sun Dark Dawn: Just finished it actually and loved it. Lets hope we dont have to wait so long for the next sequel.

Dragon Quest IX: You will find this game in my DS more than any others.

Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey: I stopped playing this for awhile after I got stuck in Eridius due to those damn warp points. After FINALLY finding my way through them it became a much more enjoyable game again.

Infinite Space: This one is a huge disappointment. Its decent in its own right I suppose but I was expecting a whole lot more.

Castlevania Order of Ecclesia: This will be my 4th play through of this game and I am officially declaring it my second favorite of the series after Symphony of the Night. SUCK IT HATERS!!! :P

^Its true. I was expecting a Freelancer or Privateer for my DS and what I got was a game were you travel from point to point fighting every battle the exact same way and forgetting what your supposed to be doing because of the retarded omission of a quest log. The story is interesting at times but not enough so to carry this whole game.

Since I barely have time to sit and play any "real" games with how busy works been lately, been mostly playing a little indie game on my phone named Game Dev Story and It's pretty damn fun. You basically open up and name a gaming studio (I named mines HardOval. Get it? ) and you're then tasked in making a hit game. But, in order to do that you're going to need to hire talented coders, artist, sound designers, writers, etc. While using research points to level them up in their respective fields, and sometimes in fields vastly different from their original expertise.

My first game was a PC Ninja adventure game that I named "The Adventures of Tom the Ninja" (abbreviated Taotn), so after an alpha and beta testing, my studio and I ironed out the bugs before releasing it to the public, which it then went on sell 37,793 copies in its first week. Reviews weren't too hot either, but at least we made enough of a profit to make a new game for the new next gen console Senga announced called "The Exodus".

I couldn't make this up if I tried.

IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 - I bought "Wings of Prey" from the Steam sale and as I'm playing it all I want to do is play IL-2...so I am.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light - I'm surprised by how good this game is. Hopefully this will continue as a series along with the new Tomb Raider reboot coming out next year.

King Arthur: The Role Playing Wargame - Similar to the Total War series, but this one isn't as good as I was hoping. The RPG aspect is good but the RTS elements are lacking

Etrian Odyssey 3: The Drowned City - I love this series so much. The third is the best so far.

Call of Duty: Black Ops - Infinitely better than MW2, but I think I'm getting a bit burned out on this series.

I'm trying to play Dragon Age Origins: Ultimate Edition, but it's giving me trouble. For some reason the DLC doesn't seem to be in the install file, so i still have to download the DLC packs individually, and I have no idea where Awakenings is supposed to be. The "Other Campaigns" option is not selectable for me within the game.

Edit: I think my game bugged, or maybe I bugged it.

Before I started it up the first time, I copied the config files from my other computer (where I finished the original Dragon Age Origins) into the config folder of the new install. I don't know if that messed it up, but my game had no option to play Awakening or any of the DLC packs. I was able to download the DLC packs 1 at a time, but supposedly I shouldn't have to do that. My roommate also bought the DAO: Ultimate Edition off steam, and his worked just fine. He fired it up and has full access to the DLC and Awakening without having to do anything else. So... I deleted the 24 gigs and I'm redownloading it, sigh. Hopefully it'll work this time.

I'm juggling 4 games at once.

Epic Mickey: This game is amazing especially being from Disney. The gloomy tone is nice and the soundtrack is really good. It irritates me that the characters make just stupid little noises instead of actual words.

Sonic Colors: This game is the best Sonic game I've played. It's bright and colorful and Sonic pretty much goes on his own. I dislike the platforming and incredibly long stages like the Starlight Carnival

Rayman: The original game for the Playstation. I thought it would be awesome to play because I've played it as a child but it's really ticking me off. Damn spikey fruit and pink plants...

Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs: This game is just like the other 2 Pokemon Ranger games except with a few new features such as of course Ranger Signs which lets you call a Pokemon to help you just by drawing its symbol which for me I draw like **** and they are simple too...

Psychonauts - Still a classic

King Arthur - The more I play this one the more I like it. The RTS aspect is still a little clunky, but you learn to work around it.

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines - I'm playing through as a Malkavian for the first time. Some of your dialog choices, and peoples reactions to them, are hysterical.

Super Meat Boy - I'm falling in love with this game. Its incredibly challenging but once you figure out what you need to do to pull off a level its amazingly satisfying. Then there are times when you will be on a roll and feel like a badass. :P

Tron 2.0 - I needed to get the taste of Tron: Evolution out of my mouth so I popped this one in. Not as good as I remember but still far more enjoyable than Tron: Evolution...and Tron: Legacy for that matter. Dont even get me started on that abomination.

See, I disagree. I thought Vanquish's plot was great, because it's the first sci-fi video game in a while which has a fairly realistic plot. Everybody behaves a little peculiarly but not in a way that is unbelievable, and it's exactly as a real conflict is: plenty of casualties, almost no scene change, several "boring moments" with speaking to an operator and just transitioning during downtime...it worked really nicely.

I've gone 7 hours into the game already, the plot has picked up a lot, and there are still old characters that have yet to come out of the wood works.

This new game seems to like keeping the old characters hidden while at the same time keeping them familiar.

The Unknown masked guy who's traveling with the big dude Bardos or whatever, for example.

Kraden is also a character from the original.

However something about this game makes me like the original more, maybe it seems easier than the plot of the first and second games.

You know, I have heard alot about the Parasite Eve game but never played it myself.

Can someone tell me why it's a good game(s)?Well, PE1 was pretty revolutionary when it first came out. It was an hybrid of an RPG and survival horror game that had an really interesting combat system. The game itself (as in its story) wasn't anything noteworthy, honestly. And each of its elements by themselves wasn't exactly top-notch (IMO at least) but it was still a great game. What's even better is, you can finish the game in maybe about two hours if you really know what you're doing. :P

I actually haven't played the second game past ten minutes, so I can't say much on it but I do hear it is pretty inferior to the first game.

3rd Birthday is a real weird one so far and I can see it being a real polarizing game with the fans of the series once it's released in the states...

You know, I have heard alot about the Parasite Eve game but never played it myself.

Can someone tell me why it's a good game(s)?

Oh, I never responded to this!

Parasite Eve is plain fun though there are some interface things which make playing it occasionally annoying. It has prerendered backgrounds with fully rendered models acting upon it, which works to some extent, but in other ways does not, at all, whatsoever. Same as FFVII, whenever it asks you to find an item or something, it's often annoying and difficult to do so simply because half the time they don't stand out at all from the background and it's hard to tell what you can interact with in the first place.

The weapons and upgrade system aren't really ever explained but they probably don't need to be in great detail, but it is annoying when you try and attempt the Chrysler Building after you beat the game because said bonus dungeon is much tougher. The final boss is pretty ridiculous too, even for a high level Aya with great guns. The camera basically works like Resident Evil to some extent -- prerendered backgrounds but with multiple angles. Can make it annoying to navigate sometimes as a result.

The plot is about as stereotypically "90s video game" as you can get, seriously. There's pseudobabble about mitochondria and a lot of jabbering about evil plots and whatnot, and even a straight up mad scientist (who happens to be German, which made me laugh so hard when I met him in the game and saw how he acted  ). There's also a black cop boss that you have who is a bit...well, peculiar. It seems he was promoted on the basis that he's impossible to kill, rather than his good judgment and whatnot, because he seems to dive headfirst into any dangerous situations he can.

I'd say it's worth playing but don't pay a lot for it, I'd say $15 tops. If it comes to PSN it'd be a steal there.

Gibb

The Parasite Eve games are on the Japanese PS1 classics store, and I wouldn't be surprised if they made it stateside before The 3rd Birthday was released. The first Parasite Eve has a really complex story, tho it doesn't make all that much sense when you're playing the game (at least it didn't when I played through it). The game had a good atmosphere, and a fantastic soundtrack. The second game was more like a Resident Evil game, with more similar gameplay and scary moments.

Do you have an inner child? If so, play this game. It's so cool how this game breaks so many videogame conventions and delivers something you might not expect. The enemies really aren't threatening, for one thing. They might hurt you a little, but you can't die. Worst that can happen is you'll lose your gems, and a lot of 'em are just passively wandering around or even sleeping.

The challenge in this game isn't really getting to the end of the level. It's getting there while using the toys the game gives you to find your way into the out-of-reach areas where the extra gems or hidden treasures are.

It's amazingly relaxing and has some gorgeous music.

If you ever liked a Kirby game... do the decent thing.

Treat your inner child to this game.

I don't believe so. Legend of Mana also was released semi-recently in the Japan store, but we haven't seen it in the states.
These games would be nice to have, but WHERE IS MY SUIKODEN 2.

We wantsssss it precccccioussssss. Nasty Hobbitssssessss.

GTA IV - The Lost and The Damned

Decided to play this right after I beat TBOGT despite planning to play Saint's Row 2 before TLATD but oh well lol. Pretty fun right now although I still do not see what's so great about being in a gang in the first place TBH.

I'm playing Batman: Arkham Asylum again. I sort of stalled with this one, but I picked it back up after Vai reminded me. Finally managed to get past the fight that I couldn't handle before. One of those 'predator mode' fights where ya have to take the dudes out without letting yourself be exposed.

Seven thugs and about a million attempts later... I'm moving on with the game at last. Gotham can thank me later.

You should have sent in Robin, he's the best one for taking guys from behind.

Finally started playing Dragon Age - Ultimate Edition.

I'm in Lothering ATM and I'm focused on Earth, Fire, and Ice magic right now. Hopefully, it won't take me too long to become a Spirit Healer and Blood Mage.

Also planning to get Morrigan to fall for me so that I can get the good ending on the Witch Hunt downloadable content.

Dragon Quest IX - Grinding by Loch Storn or whatever it's called, trying to get my party strong enough to take on the Wight Knight.

Tales of Vesperia - I explored Herald or whatever it was called, fought the second real boss (an Eggbear) and revived the great tree. Now I'm in Astio, looking for Mordio.

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. I don't like it as much as Portrait of Ruin.

Played Little Big Planet 2 last night. I'm really not getting the hang of the grappling hook (pun intended). There was a part where you had to launch yourself into the air to get some item bubbles using the grapple, and it probably took me 15 minutes to get it, and I still never really figured out how to swing properly. Anyway the game is pretty cool so far.

Bayonetta.

Just finished fighting the first real boss of the game. The boss fight itself was pretty fun but the level before that is what made me cuss like a drunken sailor in irritation. I swear, I ****ing hate those damn collapsing bridges >_<
