View Full Version : What age rating would you give eva

If you could give Evangelion a age rating lke 16+ what would it be?

tv33
August 12th, 2003, 08:09 AM
Well it being anime gives it a lot of room. Naked anime girls don't shock like naked real girls would. Anime blood is not as shocking as real blood.

I see Eva like a work of art. Looking at porn and looking at a sculpture of a naked man and woman in an embrace are two different things. With Eva, like art, and almost all things in life, it is all about maturity and intelligents.

although it varies on a case-by-case basis. I saw the second half of Eva when I was 10 and I thought it was brilliant (although I did have to wait till I was 13 to see the whole thing)

Same here, except i was nine when i first saw it (the series that is). Actually i didnt really appreciate it till a couple of years later when i was more mature and able to understand some of the hidden meanings, this is when i saw the movie too.
but i would say that 16+ fits it fairly well.

Evangelion (series and movie) fits the 13-18 demographic, but I think its appeal sort of transcends beyond that.

Eva can be viewed by ages 12+

I voted 11+ because it was the closest to mine. I think 14+ is a good age limit, but not something that should be inforced. I first saw Eva when I was 12.

The show really requires a mature mind to fully understand. But in the area of ratings I would say 16+ due to blood, violence and things of a sexual nature.

The thing is, I saw this when I was young and understood everything and enjoyed it very much but that was because in my childhood I got bored with Disney movies and early in my life was watching R movies. Got to love parents who believe in a leniant child upbringing.

10+ its only animation. Preteens can handel it. They cuss and fight in school Eva is like Barney to them.

lol, I love my Parent's too. Their philosophy is that if they expose it to me, I wont try sneeking around behind them to do anything (Their wrong, but Im not going to tell them ;) ).

I'd say more 11+ (or 12+) Eva-01 eating Zeruel really freaked me out when I was 10.

I would say 14/15+ for the TV series and "Death". 16/17+ for "Rebirth" and EOE.

I'm suprised you guys could actually UNDERSTAND most of it at a young age. My age Rating: 14+ *remembers the infamous audio recordings between Kaji/Misato* *wonders how a kid under 10 could handle that scene*:/

100 +!!!!

Not really probably 14 + just wanted to enforce that to understand it you need to be really wise and really smart but not necesarily old.

When I have kids I'm gonna make them watch the whole series and movies once every two weeks from the day they are born. Im gonna call it a medical study so I can see how much it'll f**k up my kids.

Hell I think if someone did that the kid would know more about Evangelion than Anno himself. Then you'd have to ween him off it like you ween morphine off vietnam vets.

I say 16+, the beginning was alright for younger people but when it got more serious I think that some of the younger crowd got a little lost.

And for EoE I say Parental Advisory Warning. LOL

15+ IMO, there really wasn't that much bad sturr in the series, though I think movies could be given a higher rating, like 17+.

If I where to suggest an age level for the series I'd suggest 17 and up.

But never would I ever consider puting that on the package. Age ratings are as stupid as can be. It's exactly like a steriotype, a 10 year old could potentially watch Evangelion and have the same effect as a serious/mature 20 year old, and a 30 year old could potentailly see Evangelion and have the same effect as a child.

If anything, the series would improve the intelligence of children. Eminem is what hithers intelligence, not Evangelion.

I must have already posted here, since I had already voted on the poll, but I always say the ideal age for Eva-fication is like 12-14. That being said, I'd probably say like 12+ or something.

And I love the fact that only people over 100 has 3 votes!

What the?? My post is on the same page! Oh well... I guess my rating has changed... that must mean I'm a flip flopper. I don't know, I agree with both of my posts.

I voted 11-16, but in general more towards the 16 than the 11. Intelligent, mature 11 year olds who can deal with the violence, overall theme, and sex-type stuff would be fine, and any normal 16 year old should be OK as well. As for understanding all the little things, well, who knows. . .

I remember after I watched Evangelion for the First time. I was 15. It left a huge impact on me. I ran out and made several of my friends watch it. Some thought the robots were "cool" and that the ending sucked, but other than that it was Ok. I was shocked that they didn't get the same feeling that I did.

But now a few years later, nothing has changed. Some think it's amazing, but for the most part, people just don't get it. Age and Maturity don't necessarily go hand in hand. People can't seem to appreciate it, I don't understand this, I think it's one of the greatest series of our time.

15 or 51, it's a matter of the person and their ability to appreciate such things. And those are hard to find.

Aside from the above statements that "different people adjust at different ages," which is correct, standards themselves change over time...heck, a few decades back, would Eva have even been allowed on the market for ANYone to watch? So the "right" answer to such a question as this (if there even is one) is doomed to not stay "right" for very long...personally, I'd probably say, at this point in time, that a late-teens viewing age might be most reasonable...but then again, it might be a completely different ball of wax for EoE, as opposed to the original series...so who knows...

I really dont think that many animes and mangas need age rating unless we are talking about hentai or animes like Ninja Scrolls. It basicly up to your judgement or your parent's judgement.

I first saw the series at age 15, and coincidentally that is the suggested age on the DVDs. I'm assuming EoE had an R-15 rating in Japan, as I don't think PG-12 or R-18 would have suited it, so I'd say 15 is about the right age.

However, I have two younger sisters who were aged 12 and 10 when they first saw it and they loved the series and weren't affected negatively by it in any way (though they were required to skip the "first scene" of EoE, they saw everything else.)

Mr. Tines
August 4th, 2006, 02:03 PM
The British Board of Film Certification marked half the DVDs as PG, the rest (collections 4,6,7,8 ) as 12; and the movies as 15.

I think that's about right, even if full appreciation really requires having had more chance to make your own life mistakes and reflect on them

I think it really depends on how mature the viewer really is. If the kid is 12 and yet seems to pick up on Eva better than most ppl, than he definitely deserves to watch the show, or even if he's 11. I'm thinking anything below that is a bit of a push because the show does get a bit graphic later on. I haven't seen Death and Rebirth but EoE I think def deserves at least 16/17+. Overall though I'd give the show a 15+ rating for those "less intellectual".

I disagree with the whole concept of age ratings. I was watching R-rated movies when I was 8, and I turned out just fine.
