I used to have those shelves above my bed as well. I was always affraid to put too much books on them and they might collapse... O_O

My manga collecting had came to a halt. One reason is that the series I'm collecting are all being released very slowly. Another reason is that the usual place I buy manga online don't send overseas for now. They'll start mailing overseas again around end of the year, so I'll have to wait until then to stock what I want. :P

Yea when you first get into buying/collecting the manga volumes it is so hard to resist buying so many things beacuse there are alot of series you can start that are completed (dont have to wait for new releases ;) ). Although after a while you will start havig more trouble finding mangas that you feel like buying.

I don't think I have a crazy amount of manga but I have a decent start. I have 259 translated graphic novels and a complete set of Shojo Beat magazines. I also have a bunch of random stuff like individual issues, a stack of Manga Vizions magazines (Viz's first try at a monthly anthology), some artbooks and history of manga books, and some untranslated stuff.

Having only a small number of mangas is far from saying you have only read a few mangas series. There are so many ways to save yourself the trouble of buying the mangas themselves such as online translations/scanlations, reading them in-store, or borrowing them. The mangas i myself have read recently are mainly online because of their convenience and broad range of selection.

I've noticed a trend that most collections that have insanely high numbers (500+) normally consist of a collection of different language volumes. Since mangas in languages other than english are rarely found being sold in the North America how do people go about ordering japanese, french, spanish, korean, etc.. mangas? I can't imagine that there are many stores that stock these mangas, do you need some sort of connection to people in other countries who can buy them there and ship them to you?

There is a Japanese bookstore called Sasuga that has American locations, and it has an online store I believe. As for languages such as French and German, I'm not sure. I have a French volume, but I bought it in France. I intend to use it as a sort of practice book for my French skills. How others go about getting foreign manga other than Japanese, I have no idea.

Other than that i have only seen a Borders in San Francisco and Boston that had one shel dedicated to japanese mangas underneath the translated english ones. Anything other than japanese i have never even seen before.

They might not be that common because of a lack of store locations, but they still do have a website you could check out i you are interested.

Also, i would think that japanese mangas would be more expensive than normal english copies since generally japanese volumes use better quality paper to print the comic on and they would need to import them into the country.

i have 127 volumes, spanning several years of collecting. i have a bunch of Love Hina volumes, but i dont use them anymore so i didnt count those. the manga are all differently priced, because some were cheaper than others (Kinokunia has cheaper stuff, and of course, conventions) but if i was to add my whole collection in worth - magazines, DVDs and manga total - id have to say.....$2500 up probably. i dont have the most, but its a good collection.

and when the time comes that i hang up my fandom, because ill get too old for it (when i start to reach my mid 20s), ill still keep everything. eh, who knows, maybe ill need it to help out a budding anime fan who has no clue what to look for. tell the kid what to avoid and stuff.

Not yet, but I have had to clear out the bottem shelf, 'cause it had loads of normal books on it...although soon, I will have to start stacking them on top of the shelf ^_^

Do you know Archonia (http://www.archonia.com/)? That's where I got all my French stuff before I started my shopping trips to Belgium. Quite reasonable shipping (DPD), IMHO.

Is it just my imagination or are mangas sold in large american book sellers such as Borders and Barnes & Noble getting slightly cheaper? Not alot, mind you, but enough to make a small difference. I remember books being around $10.00-$15.00 years ago and now they seem to be around $5.00-$12.00. Do you think that this is just a result in a larger variety of titles, or are the prices dropping for some other reason?
