DiscoTek Acquires Hells & Kaiba

While I’m a day late on the news, I’m still just as excited over DiscoTek’s acquisition of domestic DVD/BD release rights to Madhouse’s 2008 television series Kaiba and feature film Hells because both are esoteric masterpieces.

The 12-episode Kaiba television series created & directed by auteur director Masaaki Yuasa (Mind Game, Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei), may look like a children’s show but is actually a highly intelligent, especially provocative sci-fi drama for adults. Fans of Denno Coil will certainly also appreciate Kaiba.

Hells, based on Sin’Ichi Hiromoto’s three-volume manga Hells Angels, is a wild, satirical horror/action/comedy featuring monster design by the late great Yasushi Nirasawa and animation direction by Kazuto Nakazawa (Comedy, Kill Bill anime sequences). The film is perfect for fans of anime like Kill la Kill.
