Cartoon Network Plans for Toonami

The Cartoon Network has announced plans for Toonami in 2001 that include 5 new anime series, at least one new non-anime, and a soundtrack CD. Outlaw Star will continue to air on Toonami in repeats. 96 new episodes of Dragonball Z covering the King Kai Saga, the Tenkaichi-Budoukai Saga and the Majin Buu Saga will premier in September, and The Big O, Mobile Suit Gundam, Gundam MS 08, Pilot Candidate & the original Dragonball series will all premier sometime this year.

Samurai Jack, a new animated series from Genndy Tartakovsky, creator of Dexter’s Laboratory, will debut in August with a 90 minute premier and 26 half-hour episodes. Samurai Jack will tell the story of a feudal era Japanese samurai teleported to the far future who must adapt to a new environment, battle the evil shape-shifting wizard Aku, and find replacements for his replacement for his worn-out Samurai sandals, all while trying to get back home to the correct time.

The Cartoon Network and Rhino Records will also be releasing a CD this fall featuring the the popular drum and bass music heard throughout the Toonami action-adventure block.
