Cameron on Alita?

Cinescape Online has stated that Lightstorm president Rae Sanchini revealed that James Cameron is, in fact, seeking out the rights to the manga title, saying that Cameron and company were “in negotiations for all the rights, but we haven’t made any decisions on talent.” The currently speculation is that the manga title may be Yukito Kishiro’s Battle Angel Alita (Gunnm in Japan) given that 20th Century Fox had already secured the website domain for Battle Angel Alita (http://www.battleangelalita.com). Fox has been the studio that James Cameron has worked with for many of his movies (The Abyss, True Lies, Titanic). Viz, the publisher of the Battle Angel Alita manga in the US stated, “I know they [Fox] called here a couple months ago, but we don’t have the rights to the property and directed them to the proper people in Japan.” There have been persistent rumors that the manga series Mai the Psychic Girl is being eyed by domestic companies, with various names of interested actors attached, but it does not seem like the kind of movie James Cameron would do.
