Live Action Pokemon Trailer

Earlier this week Shogun Gamer revealed 39 seconds of a supposed test screening of a live action Pokemon motion picture. In the ensuing hours and days the online community has universally dismissed this as an unofficial fan film. But the fact that this (probably) isn’t studio produced doesn’t make it any less interesting. Or weird.

The debut music video from “Rockjazz” musician ELEW (Eric Lewis) is a powerful piano performance of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” The video was directed by acclaimed Japanese film director Ryuhei Kitamura (Versus, Azumi, Midnight Meat Train).

XDragoon Anniversary Animation Released

Brazilian artist Felipe Marcantonio’s anime-inspired online comic series XDragoon celebrated its second anniversary yesterday. To commemorate the milestone, Marcantonio released a new, original animation short featuring original music composed and performed by Brazilian band Animadness.

Gears of War Goes Eastern

Jerry O’Flaherty, art and cinematics director for the Gears of War video game franchise, has revealed his plans to develop a feature film titled “Samurai.” Reminiscent of hit film 300, Samurai will feature live actors and computer generated backgrounds. Specifically, the backgrounds will be rendered with the Unreal PC game engine.

Twitch hosts a short “proof of concept” trailer for Samurai, a trailer reportedly shot for under $1,000 and starring five volunteer actors.

Good? Bad? At the minimum, it’s interesting.

Mutants, Ninjas, and Aliens

Twitch now hosts an official English subtitled trailer for the upcoming Japanese live action sci-fi/historical action movie Alien Versus Ninja and the previously unreleased “splatter” version trailer for director’s Noboru Iguchi, Yoshihiro Nishimura, and Tak Sakaguchi’s Mutant Girls Squad. Both trailers contain grotesque graphic violence and gore.

Azureus Rising Pilot Online

Independent animation studio Black Sun Entertainment has released its 5-minute proof-of-concept pilot video for Azureus Rising. The studio hopes that publicity generated by the short will enable production of a planned feature length film trilogy.

This is really neat and fun anime inspired sci-fi action.

Sintel Trailer Released

International independent animation production studio Blender Foundation has released an official trailer for its work-in-progress short film Sintel. The 5-8 minute long short from the animators behind Elephants Dream and Big Buck Bunny will be in production for another two months.

Vasoon Releases Sizzle Reels

Beijing-based studio Vasoon Animation has released promotional reels for three films in production: Deity Hunters, Ksitigarbha, and Legend 333. The Legend 333 children’s adventure film is tentatively scheduled for release late next year. The other two films don’t have scheduled release dates yet. There’s little animation in the Deity Hunters promo to judge, but by the standards of Chinese animation, Ksitigarbha and Legend 333 look quite good.
