Media Blasters Announces New Acquisitions

The beleagured domestic distributor Media Blasters has announced its acquistion of domestic rights to this year’s Ai no Kusabi OVA series, the 2010 Aki Sora: Yume no Naka OVA series, and last year’s live-action manga adaptation Parasite Doctor Suzune: Genesis.

AIC’s four-episode Ai no Kusabi OVA series is a remake of the studio’s 1992 OVA series adaptation of Rieko Yoshihara’s yaoi sci-fi novels. The erotic anime will be distributed through the non-adult “AnimeWorks” label in December.

The two-episode Aki Sora: Yume no Naka OVA series is the second anime adaptation of Masahiro Itosugi’s incestuous romance manga. The sexually explicit series will be released through the adult-anime “Kitty Media” label.

The Kisei Jui Suzune: Genesis live-action film is an adaptation of Haruki’s erotic sci-fi horror manga. Media Blasters’ initial acquisition announcement refers only to the first movie, “Genesis,” and doesn’t mention the film’s 2011 sequel, Kisei Jui Suzune: Evolution.

The Ai no Kusabi remake is not the complete story. It was originally meant to be 13 episodes not 4. But after many delays, 4 episodes were released and rumor has it if DVD sales in Japan are good, they will complete the series and finish the remaining 9 episodes.
