John, I don’t think that AnimeNewsNetwork polls are a very accurate way to measure American anime fandom since ANN has (sadly) become a site with a bitter, negative and cynical approach to anime in the last few years. I believe anyone who really loves anime would not like to visit a site that mocks otaku repeatedly and would never participate in its polls. Personally, I used to visit that site a lot in the early 00′s but it deteriorated so much that nowadays I wouldn’t even dream to read a review from them.
I think the last thing I read there was the spring 2010 anime preview guide, where it said that B Gata H Kei “seems to be aimed predominantly at sexually immature otaku men-children”. I never read another article from them again.
