Helter Skelter Movie Announced

Japanese news site Livedoor reports that Erika Sawajiri (Shinobi ~ Heart Under Blade) will star in a live-action feature adaptation of Kyoko Okazaki’s psychological drama manga Helter Skelter. The manga revolves around an aging fashion model who begins to lose her sanity as her career and beauty fade. Mika Ninagawa (Sakuran) will direct.

Viz to Simulcat Lagrange

Viz Media has announced plans to stream next month’s bishoujo robot anime series Lagrange ~ The Flower of Rin-ne. The 24 episode series from creators Production I.G & car company Nissan is being animated by I.G subsidiary Xebec with Tatsuo Sato (Nadesico) directing. The series will premiere in Japan on January 8.

Miniskirt Pirates to Invade America

Crunchyroll has announced plans to simulcast next month’s Moretsu Pirates sci-fi anime series. Furthermore, Sentai Filmworks has licensed the series for online and home video release. Sentai will begin its own streaming distribution of the show in February, followed by a DVD & Blu-ray release.

Aruvu Rezuru Anime Announced

Kodansha has announced that the BOX-AiR New Author Awards competition winning submission, writer Yu Yamaguchi’s serial sci-fi novel Aruvu Rezuru -Kikai Jikake no Yosei-tachi- (Aruvu Rezuru: Mechanized Fairies), will get an anime adaptation. Publisher Kodansha, online magazine BOX-AiR, and record company Starchild organized the BOX-AiR New Author Awards competition, promising that finalist submissions will be considered for commercial anime adaptation. Aruvu Rezuru is the story of a teen boy who struggles to find his younger sister’s soul that is lost in cyberspace.

Kyo Ani Announces Chuuni Byou Anime

Kyoto Animation currently publishes author Torako’s light novel series Chuu Ni Byou Demo Koi ga Shitai! and has announced plans to produce an anime adaptation of the story. In 2009 commedian Hikaru Ijuin coined the phrase “chuuni-byou” (second grade disease) to refer to the common impression held by second-year middle-school students that they are unique and special. Torako’s light novel series is a romantic triangle story involving two girls who suffer from “chuuni-byou” delusions of grandeur who vye for the same boy. The light novel concept was recognized with an honorable mention in last year’s first Kyoto Animation Award competition.

Looks like, after a partial departure with Nichijou, KyoAni is back to animating bishoujo schoolgirls.

Boku H Anime Announced

The homepage for author Pan Tachibana’s light novel series Dakara Boku wa, H ga Dekinai (So, I Cannot Get Lecherous) has announced the development of an anime TV series adaption from studio feel (Yosuga no Sora). The novel series revolves around a lecherous schoolboy who sacrifices his libido to live with an attractive shinigami but then regrets his inability to feel aroused by pretty girls.

High Score OAD Announced

A “Minna no High Score” (Everyone’s High Score) “greatest hits” manga collection of reader’s picks for best installments of Chinami Tsuyama’s High Score 4-koma gag manga will be released on March 15. The manga volume will include a bonus DVD containing all 8 mini episodes of the High Score TV anime series plus two exclusive episodes.

I didn’t even realize that High Score was a self-contained anime. I thought it was part of the Yuruani? series.

Symphogear Trailer Online

The homepage for next month’s Senki Zessho Symphogear television series has added a streaming trailer. The original concept was developed by composer Noriyasu Agematsu of the music group Elements Garden and game producer Akifumi Kaneko (Wild Arms). Shugo Chara! Party! director Tatsufumi Ito is directing at studio Encourage Films, which is being assisted by Satelight. J-pop star and voice actress Nana Mizuki leads the vocal cast. The series will premiere on January 6.

There’s some impressively fluid animation quality in this trailer. Could this become a surprise hit next month?

Full Accel World Trailer Released

A full trailer for Sunrise’s upcoming adapation of Reki Kawahara’s Accel World light novel series has appeared online. The school drama revolves around a short, bullied schoolboy who develops a relationship with the prettiest girl in the school by playing an online game with her. The series will premiere next April.

Have we really gotten so used to 12-13 episode TV series that it’s now a big deal when a TV anime is planned for 24-26 episodes, like this one is?

Queen’s Blade Rebellion Trailer

Media Factory has released the first trailer for next year’s Queen’s Blade Rebellion television series. The series is set immediately following the two Queen’s Blade OADs, which occur four years after the events depicted in the Queen’s Blade OVA and second television series.

Saki Achiga-hen Trailer

A trailer for next spring’s Saki: Achiga-hen -episode of side-A- television series has appeared online. The bishoujo mahjong anime is based on Aguri Igarashi’s manga, which is itself a spin-off from Ritz Kobayashi’s Saki manga. The original Saki manga series received an anime television series in 2009. Much of the first TV series staff is working on the new series at Studio Gokumi.

New Brave 10 Trailer Released

The homepage for next month’s Brave 10 television anime has released its third, longest trailer so far. The anime is based on Shimotsuki Kairi’s 2007 manga version of the Sanada Jyu Yushi story. The Sanada Ten story was previously adapted into the 2005 anime series Shinshaku Sengoku Eiyuu Densetsu Sanada Juu Yuushi.

Looks like a hybrid of Hakuouki and Sengoku Basara. Not a complaint; just an observation.

Oda Nobuna no Yabo Trailer Online

The first trailer for next year’s bishoujo historical action anime TV series Oda Nobuna no Yabo (The Ambition of Nobuna Oda) has appeared online. The adaptation of Miyage Kasuga’s light novel series reimagines fedual Japan’s warlords as young girls and transports a modern day Japanese teen boy into their midst. This year’s Sengoku Otome ~Momoiro Paradox~ depicted the same concept, merely transporting a contemporary girl back in time instead of a contemporary boy.

Maeda is pretty cute in that tiger outfit.

Kuroko no Basuke Teaser Released

The homepage for Production I.G’s baseketball anime series Kuroko no Basuke, based on Tadatoshi Fujimaki’s original manga, has added a 102 second streaming teaser. Despite its length, the trailer doesn’t reveal much footage. The show will premiere in April.
