Yozakura Quartet OAD 3 Trailer

Friday, October 28th, 2011

Kodansha has released a two-minute trailer for the upcoming third and final Yozakura Quartet: Hoshi no Umi OAD. The episode will be released on November 9 exclusively with limited edition copies of the 11th collected volume of Suzuhito Yasuda’s Yozakura Quartet supernatural action manga series.

Quite looking forward to this because despite the OAD story being pretty simple, the action sequences in the first two OADs have been phenomenal.

Gen Manga Issue 6 Review

Friday, October 28th, 2011

The sixth issue of Gen Manga (pronounced with a hard “G” in reference to the Japanese kanji character for “origin,” although I’m told by editor Robert McGuire that pronouncing the title with a soft “G” is fine too) is available to subscribers and consumers now. The October issue introduces the first chapter of a new, ongoing serial, Ryo Hanada’s Good-bye Geist, and shifts the magazine even further toward being America’s exclusive and foremost introduction to contemporary Japanese alternative and gekiga manga.

Black Rock Shooter TV Trailer

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

The homepage for studio Ordet’s Black Rock Shooter television series has added a streaming trailer that reveals the first original animation from the upcoming show. The trailer also appears to confirm that the TV series story will be based on the same concept that infused the 2009 Black Rock Shooter OVA. The eight-episode BRS television anime will premiere in the Fuji TV network’s Noitamina late-night timeslot in January.

This is intriguing because some of the action animation looks more like stylized motion typical of Gainax animation than Ordet animation.

Ask John: How Popular is Gankutsuou?

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

Question:
A few weeks back I noticed that the Gankutsuou boxset had made it into [AnimeNation's] top three bestselling anime for two weeks in a row. I had no idea this show was popular enough to still sell this well. I remember when Rightstuf was trying to get rid of the older Geneon sets each week at a very low price, likely to move in the new Funimation sets. From the sales data as presented through AnimeNation’s newsletter, is Gankutsuou a popular title that actually sells that well? I never hear people talk or write about it on the internet, so it was just a surprise!
