Sekai de Ichiban Tsuyoku Naritai! Anime Announced

The promotional obi found on new copies of the first volume of ESE and Kiyohito Natsuki’s manga series Sekai de Ichiban Tsuyoku Naritai! (I Want to Become the World’s Toughest!) reveals that an anime TV series adaptation in in production. The manga revolves around a popular idol singer who suddenly decides that she wants to become a professional wrestler.

ToHeart2 Dungeon Travelers Anime Announced

PC Game developer Aquaplus has formally announced the development of an OVA series based on its ToHeart2 Dungeon Travelers PSP RPG. The game, released this past June, puts the ToHeart2 visual novel characters into an alternate continuity sword & sorcery dungeon crawl adventure. Jun’ichi Sakata, director of the previous three ToHeart2 OVA series, will direct the new anime. The first episode will be released on February 22, 2012. The concluding episode will follow on March 21.

Ao no Exorcist Movie Announced

The November issue of Jump Square Magazine that goes on sale in Japan next week will formally announce the development of an Ao no Exorcist (Blue Exorcist) motion picture. The current anime TV series adaptation of Kazue Kato’s supernatural action manga will air its final episode on Sunday. The TV series has been simulcasting online, and Aniplex USA will begin distributing the TV series on American DVD next month.

A look at this screenshot of Kamijou Touma of To Aru Majutsu no Index brought back to my mind that catch phrase from those Timex Watch commercials, “Takes a licking and keeps on ticking.” Assuming you are familiar with Index and the likely reasons why that catch phrase might apply to its male protagonist, who else does John recall from any other corner of the anime universe who might also qualify to be described by said phrase?

Sentai Reveals New Title Acquisitions

Sentai Filmsworks has announced its acquisition of domestic distribution rights to the upcoming Persona 4 The Animation, Kyokai Senjo no Horizon ~ Horizon on the Middle of Nowhere, and Maji de Watashi ni Koi Shinasai!! television series.

The Persona 4 TV series will premiere on Japanese TV on October 6. Sentai promises a digital release “soon” followed by a DVD & BD release next year.

The Horizon on the Middle of Nowhere sci-fi action television series will premiere on Japanese television on October 1. Weekly episodes will stream on The Anime Network beginning October 4. A domestic home video release will launch next year.

The 12 episode Maji de Watashi ni Koi Shinasai!! television series will premiere in Japan on October 1. Sentai Filmworks will distribute the series digitally in October under the abbreviated title “Majikoi – Oh! Samurai Girls!” prior to a 2012 home video release.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal to Premiere in America on October 15

4Kids Entertainment has announced that it will begin airing Japan’s current Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal television series on CW4Kids Toonzai at 9:30 am on October 15. Whether 4Kids actually has legal rights to broadcast the series domestically is still unclear.

Last May TV Tokyo and Nihon Ad Systems filed suit against 4Kids in Southern District of New York court to prevent 4Kids from further marketing the Yu-Gi-Oh license. 4Kids is presently undergoing bankruptcy reorganazation, and the legal suit to determine 4Kids’ rights to continue managing the Yu-Gi-Oh license has not been settled yet.

Medaka Box Anime Announced

To little surprise, Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine has announced that writer NisiOisin and illustrator Akira Akatsuki’s school comedy action manga series Medaka Box will be getting an anime adaptation. The ongoing manga about a high school’s student council that handles problems ranging from fights to supernatural situations premiered in 2009.

NisiOisin’s Bakemonogatari, Katanagatari, Kizumonogatari, and Nisemonogatari light novels already have anime adaptations.

Gokujyo TV Anime Announced

Super Jump Magazine has formally announced the development of a TV anime based on Maya Miyazaki’s “silly, slightly risque,” school comedy manga series Gokujyo. ~Gokurakuin Joshi Koryo Monogatari~. The manga revolves around a Japanese-American girl who moves into an “anything goes” all-girls high school dormitory in Japan. The ongoing manga series launched in 2009.

Some of artist Maya Miyazaki’s erotic manga was adapted into the two episode Maya Miyazaki Daizukan OVA series last year. An anime OVA series based on Miyazaki’s supernatural action manga series Holy Knight is presently in development.

Code:Breaker Anime Announced

Weekly Shonen Magazine has announced the development of an anime based on Akimine Kamijyo’s current manga series Code:Breaker. The 2008 and ongoing manga from the creator of Samurai Deeper Kyo revolves around a high school boy who moonlights as a mercenary. Del Rey Manga published two volumes of the manga in English last year.

Tezuka Pro to Produce Budori Gusuko Movie

Total Licensing Magazine reports that Tezuka Productions plans to take over and complete the production of the Life of Guskou Budori anime film that Group TAC announced and began developing in 2008. Group TAC declared bankruptcy and closed in 2010. Reportedly Tezuka Pro has secured interested investors but still requires another 50,000,000 yen (about $650,000 USD) to have enough money to complete the film.

The tentative movie is an adaptation of Kenji Miyazawa’s 1932 novel Gusukobudori no Denki about a young scientist doing early research on the greenhouse effect.

Shingeki no Kyojin Movie Filming

Award-wining director Tetsuya Nakashima (Confessions, Kamikaze Girls) has begun shooting a live-action adaptation of Hajime Isayama’s 2009 sci-fi manga Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan). The ongoing hit manga depicts a society in which humans are restricted to life within walled cities after man-eating giants take over the world.
