The homepage for the upcoming school comedy television series Ben-to has added a streaming teaser trailer. The adaptation of author Asaura’s action/comedy light novel series revolves around a poor boy drawn into the world of fighting for half-priced supermarket packaged meals. Shin Itagaki (Devil May Cry, Mayoi Neko Overrun!) is directing the show at david production (Tatakau Shisho, Ristorante Paradiso). The series will premiere this fall.
The official homepage for the anime adaptation of Yukito Ayatsuji’s 2009 mystery/horror novel Another has launched with the announcement that the anime will be a 2012 TV series. The story revolves around a mysterious schoolgirl at the center of a cursed school room.
Konami has released the alternate anime opening for its upcoming PSP action game Buso Shinki Battle Masters Mk. 2. The game will hit Japanese stores on September 1. The first episode of the Busou Shinki Moon Angel anime will be available on the Japanese Playstation Network in the first week of September.

Manga creator Shungiku Nakamura’s 2003 yaoi manga Hybrid Child is getting an anime adaptation. The manga is a collection of stories revolving around the romantic relationships of young men that are neither fully android nor fully human. The manga is available in English from Digital Manga Press.
Shungiku Nakamura’s Sekai-Ichi Hatsukoi (“World’s Number One First Love”) is also getting a second TV series. The anime adaptation’s first season aired last April. The manga has also had two OADs: one released before the TV series and released after.
Acclaimed Japanese sci-fi novelist Sakyo Komatsu passed away on Tuesday, July 26, due to pneumonia. He was 80 years old. Komatsu may be best known for his 1973 disaster novel Japan Sinks!, which was adapted into a live-action film in 1973, a live-action TV series in 1975, and a live-action movie remake in 2006. Many of Komatsu’s concepts and short stories were adapted into the 1989 Komatsu Sakyo Anime Gekijo anime TV series.

The September issue of Manga Time Kirara Carat magazine formally announces a TV anime based on creator Kaduho’s ongoing 4-koma comedy manga Kill Me Baby. The manga stars a schoolgirl assassin, her fearless but stupid classmate, and a co-worker kunoichi.

Although director Kenji Kamiyama’s Xi Avant short film has streamed online in four parts, the complete three-and-a-half-minute short is now available internationally on YouTube. Norkiko Kasuya’s 2007-2010 josei manga Watashi wa Shadow (I am a Shadow) is being adapted into a live-action television series. Kyoko Fukuda (Kamikaze Girls, Yatterman) will star as a devoted housewife who finds herself starting a new life as a detective. The TV drama, tentatively titled “Sengyoshufu Tentei ~ Watashi wa Shadow (Housewife Detective ~ I am a Shadow), will premiere in October.
