Naruto Movie 8 Trailer Released

The trailer section of the homepage for the Naruto motion picture franchise has added a full trailer for next month’s Naruto Shippuden: Blood Prison movie. The July 30 movie will be the fifth Naruto Shippuden picture, the eigth film in the whole Naruto theatrical franchise.

Hopefully this one will be better than the uninspired and dull previous movie.

Yurumates 2 Trailer

Publisher Takeshobo has released a trailer for the upcoming Yurumates Ha? OVA, an original anime story based on the Yurumates slice-of-life comedy manga by Saxyun. The first Yurumates OVA was released back in April 2009. The second OVA will be released on June 24.

Bara-Iro no Seisen Drama Announced

28-year-old actress Kazue Fukiishi (Blue Remains, GeGeGe no Nyobo) will star in a live-action TV series adaptation of Yukari Koyama’s ongoing women’s manga Bara-Iro no Seisen: The Future Is in Our Hands! Fukiishi will star as a 30 year-old woman who decides to become a fashion model after discovering that her husband was seeing another woman. The TV series will premiere later this summer.

Reports of AM2 Cancelation are False

Over the past weekend, the homepage of the July 1-3 Japanese pop-culture convention AM2 was hacked, and an unauthorized announcement that the convention had been canceled was placed on the website. This year’s AM2 convention at the Anaheim Convention Center in California has not been canceled.

Ask John: Do Nazi Characters Keep Anime Away From America?

Question:
Does the fact that no one’s shown any problems with certain German soldiers in Hetalia make it less “controversial” to release Pataliro and the original Kinnikuman in the U.S.? And maybe finally get The Cockpit on R1 DVD? Is it enough to take into account the intent of the artist nowadays in how they depict “amicable” Nazis, or is it still “taboo?”

Discotek Acquires Makitoshi Shinjuku

Discotek has formally announced its license rescue of the 1988 feature-length OVA Demon City Shinjuku. Madhouse and director Yoshiaki Kawajiri’s anime adaptation of Hideyuki Kikuchi’s horror-adventure novel was previously distributed on American VHS and DVD by Central Park Media.

Nice pick-up. But that new title font is awfully ugly.

Dantalian no Shoka Trailer

Kadokawa has released the first trailer for Gainax’s TV anime adaptation of Gakuto Mikumo’s light novel series Dantalian no Shoka ~ Bibliotheca Mystica de Dantalian. The historical supernatural adventure will premiere on July 15.

I’m glad to see that this doesn’t look like it’s going to be a retread of Gosick despite its somewhat similar concept.

R-15 Trailer

Kadokawa has released the first short teasers for next month’s anime television series R-15. The adaptation of Hiroyuki Fushimi and Takuya Fujima’s light novel series revolves around a boy attending an elite school who secretly publishes pornographic novels. The risqué comedy from studio AIC will premiere on July 9.

The title “R-15″ is a reference to one of Japan’s Eirin movie ratings. Many risqué or violent TV anime have been rated R-15, including Ichigo 100%, Kore ga Watashi no Goshujinsama, Tsukuyomi ~ Moonphase, Karin, Love Hina, Fullmetal Alchemist, Gantz, and Shigurui.

BakaTest Spin-off Anime Announced

Famitsu magazine has formally announced word that the Japanese home video release of the upcoming Baka to Test to Shokanju Ni! television series will include home video exclusive episodes based on namo’s BakaTest spin-off manga “Sore ga Bokura no Nichijo” (This Is Our Daily Life). The “Sore ga Bokura no Nichijo” side-story manga tells additional stories about the daily lives of the cast of author Kenji Inoue’s “BakaTest” light novel series. The second BakaTest TV series will premiere on July 7. The first volume of the second season’s home video release will go on sale in Japan in September.

Inazuma Eleven Go Movie Announced

The second Inazuma Eleven motion picture, this one “Inazuma Eleven GO: Kyukyoku no Kizuna Griffon” (Ultimate Bond Griffon), the first film based on the Inazuma Eleven sequel television series that premiered last month, will open theatrically in Japan on December 23. The movie will screen in 2D and stereoscopic 3D.

Muv-Luv Anime Announced?

The Moon Phase diary reports that the current Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse short story series will be getting an anime TV series adaptation. The series is a spin-off of Âge Soft’s 2003 Muv-Luv visual novel game franchise. According to the unconfirmed report, Takayuki Inagaki (Rosario to Vampire, Koharu Biyori) will direct with Hiroshi Yamaguchi (Blue Sub No. 6, Keroro Gunso) providing series composition.

Arakawa Under the Bridge Live-Action Footage Released

A TV spot promoting the live-action Arakawa Under the Bridge TV series has surfaced on YouTube. The adaptation of Hikaru Nakamura’s gag comedy manga stars Kento Hayashi as Ko “Ric” Ichinomiya and Mirei Kiritani as Nino. The live-action TV series will premiere on July 27, to be followed by a feature film next February. NIS America will release the first DVD/BD volume of the anime TV series adaptation next month.
