Ask John: What are the Best Recent Moé Anime?

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

Question:
Hey John, It’s Jenna! (Remember me?) Long time no see!!! I thought I’d throw this out there, considering I haven’t watched any anime in, oh, 4-5 years or so… (Almost since leaving AN in ’06!) You always had almost the exact same tastes that I do when it comes to anime (moe, moe, slice of life and more moe)… So, since I would like to try to get into a series or two again (for old times sake) I’d like your advice about what is out there, available right now, that I might like to watch. Any suggestions?

Toshokan Senso Movie Announced

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

Publisher Kadokawa Shoten has announced the development of an anime feature film based on Hiro Arikawa’s Toshokan Senso (Library War) light novel series. The award winning novel series is set in 2019 when a private “Library Defense Force” engages in organized civil wars to defend Japanese literature from staunch censorship proponents. Production I.G adapted the novel series into a 12 episode anime television series in 2008.

Honestly, I still can’t fathom how anyone actually takes this story seriously.

Ask John: Will the Tsunami Affect Future Anime Development?

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

Question:

Do you think the whole disaster in Japan will change anime/manga content in any way? Censorship maybe will control some “sensitive” storys? Like the manga Hakuryu Legend yakuza that got stopped due to it focused on the “dark side of the nuclear power industry.” Beside this “change” maybe the type of genres will somewhat take new directions?
