Discotek License-Rescues D.N.Angel

Discotek Media has announced its acquisition of the 2003 D.N.Angel anime television series. The romantic adventure series was formerly distributed on domestic DVD by A.D. Vision.

Friends Trailer

Director Takashi (Returner, Space Battleship Yamato) Yamazaki’s next film, Friends: Mononoke Shima no Naki, now has a theatrical trailer. The film will open in 2D and 3D on December 17th.

Nyanpire Teaser

The official website for Gonzo’s upcoming Nyanpire The Animation television series has added a minute-long teaser. The adaptation of yukiusa’s original dojinshi about a dying cat transfused with vampire blood will premiere later this summer. The show will be Gonzo’s first new TV anime production in two years.

Paperman Anime Announced

Japanese game developer Gamepot has announced its production of a series of anime shorts based on its FPS computer game Paperman. The shooting game is set in a 3D environment but features 2D cut-out characters. The anime shorts will premiere online and at publicity event screenings beginning this summer.

Gonzo Announces a New Work

Anime studio Gonzo (Last Exile, Afro Samurai) has announced its development of an original sci-fi slapstick school comedy anime series titled “Copihan.” Hatsune Miku character designer KEI will be involved in the project.

Morita-san wa Mukuchi TV Anime Announced

To relatively little surprise, the official website for the Morita-san wa Mukuchi franchise has announced that it will expand into a television anime series. Tae Sano’s slice-of-life school comedy was adapted into an OAD released last March. The TV series will premiere in July.

Second Futari H Live-action Adaptation Announced

The current issue of Young Animal Arashi Magazine has formally announced the development of a live-action adaptation of Katsu Aki’s romance/soap-opera/”how-to-sex” guide manga series Futari H. The ongoing manga series premiered in 1997 and has sold 23 millions copies so far. The manga was adapted into two 2-episode OVA series from 2002-2004 and a live-action mini-series in 2003.

Ningen Konchuki Drama Announced

Japanese satellite channel WOWOW has announced its development of a live-action TV series based on Osamu Tezuka’s experimental drama manga Ningen Konchuki (Human Metamorphosis). 24 year-old actress Minami (Sakuran, Detroit Metal City) will star as high school girl Toshiko Tomura who unconsciously “steals” the talents of the people around her, transforming herself into a variety of roles and professions. The TV series will be the first screen adaptation of Tezuka’s 1970-1971 manga.

Last fall Vertical announced plans to publish the manga in English under the title “The Book of Human Insects.”

Ask John: Will Steamboy Ever Get a Sequel?

Question:
Do you know if there are any plans to make a sequel to Steamboy (2004)? It was a great movie with lots of potential for more story-building and character development. I found an old news article, also from that same year, with some talk about a sequel, but nothing else has surfaced since then.
