Since I’ve been fortunate enough to watch all of this month’s new TV anime that have aired so far except for Shiawase Haitatsu Taneko and the Yuruani? shorts, here’s my personal perspective on another batch of new titles.
The official website for Production I.G’s forthcoming Blood-C anime production has launched, revealing that the latest anime based on the Blood: The Last Vampire concept will consist of a July 2011 television series and a 2012 motion picture. The new production design artwork from character designers CLAMP also looks much darker and more confidence inspiring that the previously released magazine image.
The official homepage for the Prince of Tennis anime franchise has announced the development of a “Prince of Tennis OVA Another Story II ~Ano Toki no Bokura~” OVA series to commemorate the series’ tenth anniversary. The two episode series will illustrate the early lives of the series’ most popular characters. The first OVA will be released on August 26. The second will be served up on October 26.
The tenth anniversary Prince of Tennis anime movie will hit Japanese theaters on September 3.
Kodansha has scheduled a release of the third episode of the Yozakura Quartet ~Hoshi no Umi~ OAD series for September 9. The OAD will be released exclusively with limited edition copies of the 11th collected volume of Suzuhito Yasuda’s manga.
The second “Hoshi no Umi” OAD was released in Japan yesterday with limited edition copies of the 10th volume of the manga.
To refresh your memory or introduce you to an interesting opening animation sequence, I submit the opening of the 1983 Aishite Night TV series. The opening theme is “Koi wa Totsuzen,” performed by Mitsuko Horie.
Question:
In order to satisfy my own curiosity, I make a habit of trying to sample as many of each new season’s anime as I possibly can. For the benefit of any readers who may be curios about my reactions to Japan’s spring 2011 anime season premieres, the following are my initial reactions to many of the new TV series.
Video game developer BioWare and FUNimation have formally announced a partnership with Japanese anime production studio T.O. Entertainment to develop a feature length OVA based on BioWare’s sci-fi RPG series Mass Effect. Reportedly work is already underway on the anime, which will be released on home video and digitally in summer 2012. T.O. Entertainment has previously produced anime series including Baka to Test to Shokanjyu, MM!, and Densetsu no Yusha no Densetsu.
In May 2010 Legendary Pictures announced plans to develop a live-action Mass Effect motion picture.
The G4 television network has released a 3-minute clip from last January’s Wolverine anime television series from Marvel Comics and anime studio Madhouse. The series will air on the G4 network in North America later this year. Milo Ventimiglia (Heroes television series) will dub Wolverine’s voice.
The homepage for next week’s Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Boku-tachi wa Mada Shiranai television series has added the show’s non-credit ending animation sequence. The ending features the theme song “secret base ~Kimi ga Kureta Mono~” sung by Ai Kayano, Haruka Tomatsu, & Saori Hayami.
Capcom and anime studio DLE have fomally announced the development of MonHun Nikki Pokapoka Airu-mura G, a sequel to last year’s MonHun Nikki Girigiri Airu-mura Airu Kiki Ippatsu anime television series. The second TV anime will tie-in with Capcom’s summer release of the Monster Hunter franchise spin-off video game for the PSP, MonHun Nikki Pokapoka Airu-mura G.

Responding to a Twitter question about the production of a third Hayate no Gotoku television series, series creator Kenjirou Hata answered, “The third season: after the movie of the summer of this year. Please wait in expectancy!”

Media Factory has released a trailer for next week’s new Hidan no Aria anime television series. The bishoujo action series based on Chugaku Akamatsu’s light novel series will premiere on the 14th.
The homepage for the upcoming Kimi to Boku anime television series has added a streaming teaser trailer. The trailer does not include any animation footage from the forthcoming show.
