4°C to Animate Mutafukaz
Variety reports that Japan’s Studio 4°C will collaborate with French videogame and comics publisher Ankama on the production of an animated film adaptation of RUN’s (Guillaume Renard’s) comic series Mutafukaz. The “urban sci-fi spoof” comic series stars Angelino, a young man who finds himself targeted by mysterious men in black, gang members, invading aliens, and Mexican wrestlers following a motor-scooter crash. The 2D film will have an $11-14 million USD budget. 4°C has extensive experience with international co-productions including First Squad (Russian co-production), Attraction (French co-production), and Halo Legends (US co-production).

Kudos to Ankama, those guys really love their comics, games, and anime… and it shows in pretty much all their work. I’m not big on Let’s-partner-with-an-anime-studio-for-the-heck-of-it projects, so I’m interested in Ankama’s angle and involvement.
