Hiroyuki Okiura Reveals His New Movie
Kadokawa Pictures has formally announced Jin-Roh director Hiroyuki Okiura’s next anime film. Okiura has spent the past seven years planning, writing, and storyboarding the original anime feature film “Momo e no Tegami” (A Letter to Momo). Masashi Ando (Paprika and Paranoia Agent character designer, Princess Mononoke animation director), Toshiyuki Inoue (A Tree of Palme character designer), and Takeshi Honda (Denno Coil character designer, Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance animation director) will work on the film at Production I.G. Okiura will direct.

Lots of big names there.
I have mixed feelings about Jin Roh due to the animation that was so heavily realist, it sometimes veered into the uncanny valley rather than conveying effective human drama (which really disregards the natural strength of the medium in its ability to convey ideas through iconic, symbolic, and otherwise exaggerated imagery). It was also a little bland in its presentation despite some awesome moments.
Okiura’s hyper-realist animation is really a thing to behold, so I kinda wish he was animating rather than directing… but hopefully this flick will change my mind
