Kitty Media has informed us that the January 18 release of the Venus 5 adult anime DVD has been rescheduled to April 26. The January 25 scheduled release of Twin Angels has been rescheduled to April 26. And the originally planned February 22 release of the Urotsukidoji OVA collection has been delayed until June.
Funimation has filed a copyright infringement suit in the Northern District of Texas court against 1,337 individuals that downloaded One Piece episode 481 via BitTorrent between January 9 and 12. The individuals are presently identified only by IP address. FUNimation expects to learn the actual identity of the charged individuals, and identify additional parties to the suit, as the legal process progresses. FUNimation is seeking a court order to prevent defendants from infringing upon any future FUNimation copyrights, demand that defendants destroy all unauthorized copies of the episode in their posession, and pay FUNimation compensation for legal expenses and damages.
FUNimation has issued the following public statement and resumed its online distribution of the Fractale anime television series. “In recent days we have been diligently tracking the online illegal distribution of the anime series Fractale and on behalf of the rights holders we have been taking the appropriate legal action. As a result, we now have the approval of the Fractale Production Committee to stream episode 2 of the series… and we are pleased to be able to continue the Fractale simulcast each Thursday as planned.”
Last week FUNimation suspended its simulcast of the show following a request from its Japanese producers that FUNimation eliminate all unauthorized online distribution of the show before being allowed to resume online distribution.
The Pokémon Company has announced that The Cartoon Network will begin broadcasting Japan’s current Pocket Monster: Best Wishes television series on February 12 under the American title “Pokémon: Black & White.” The Cartoon Network will also broadcast the North American premiere of the 13th Pocket Monster motion picture, Pokémon Zoroark: Master of Illusions (Pocket Monster Diamond & Pearl: Genei no Hasha Zoroark), on February 5.
The homepage for TV Tokyo and studio OLM’s upcoming shounen hobby anime series Danboru Senki (“Cardboard Wars”) has added a three-minute long trailer. The anime series about players that use mini-robots to battle on cardboard dioramas is based on an upcoming role-playing game from video game developer Level 5. The anime series will premiere on March 2.
The website for creator/director Junichi Sato’s OVA series Tamayura has announced that the franchise will expand into a television series. The 2010 OVA series is an iyashi-kei (“healing type”) slice-of-life anime revolving around four girls that live in a quiet town on the shore of the Seto Inland Sea. Main character Fu Sawatari spends her time devoted to her photography hobby.
This was a nice OVA series, and should expand well into a charming TV series.
MOVIC has announced plans to develop a cel phone anime series based on Rui-Tomo’s (Rui Tamachi) self-published manga Gokicha (Cockroach Girls). The December 2009 doujinshi stars a Kanto region cockroach, that resembles a cute little human girl, who moves to the Hokkaido region, where cockroaches are less common, to befriend human beings. Popular voice actresses Mamiko Noto and Rie Kugimiya will respectively play cockroach girls Gokicha and Chaba.
Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon magazine has announced word that the Hato no Oyomesan, Rinshi!! Ekoda-chan, and Puu-neko manga series are all getting anime adaptations. Haguki’s Hato no Oyomesan gag manga has been ongoing since 2000. Yukari Takinami’s Rinshi!! Ekoda-chan four-panel comedy manga premiered in 2005. A live action TV series adaptation started broadcast earlier this month. Masayuki Kitamichi’s Puu-Neko four-panel manga starring an unemployed cat launched in 2004.
The March issue of Gundam Ace magazine that goes on sale in Japan this week will formally reveal that BONES’ new original anime project Towa no Quon will be a series of six motion pictures. The first film will get limited theatrical screenings in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Sapporo, and Fukuoka beginning June 18. The film series is about people who suddenly gain supernatural powers.
The Japanese online game company GameOn has acquired the rights to develop a Record of Lodoss War online game for computers and mobile phones. Lodoss War co-creator Ryo Mizuno has agreed to serve as a supervisor for the development of the game. GameOn’s license is worldwide, and company plans to develop its Lodoss War game for international release.

Why aren’t light novels and manga being published in electronic formats? E-readers are quickly become ubiquitous and I’m sure publishers would be happy to drop the material costs of paper, ink, and shipping. So why are they still operating like it’s the 19th century?
