Ao no Exorcist Anime Announced

An interactive website has launched to announce the development of an anime TV series adaptation of Kazue Kato’s supernatural action manga series Ao no Exorcist (Blue Exorcist). The manga stars Okumura Rin, a 15 year-old exorcist and the son of the demon lord Satan, who opposes his demonic father. The ongoing manga premiered in April 2009.

The website, with it’s destroy the ghost cats feature, is an addicting waste of time.

Dog Days Anime Announced

The Moon Phase diary reports that Aniplex will produce and Seven Arcs (Lyrical Nanoha, Sekirei) will animate an original TV series titled “Dog Days,” based on a concept from Tsuzuki Maki, the manga artist responsible for the Lyrical Nanoha A’s and StrikerS manga adaptations and the spin-off Mahou Senki Lyrical Nanoha Force and Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha Vivid manga series.

Ore-sama Kingdom & Hime Gal Paradise OVAs Announced

The February issue of Ciao Magazine will include a bonus DVD containing OVA adaptations of Chitose Yagami’s Ore-sama Kingdom (Kings of My Love) and Akira Wao’s Hime Gal Paradise (Princess Gal Paradise) shoujo romance manga serials.

19th Crayon Shin-chan Movie Revealed

The homepage for the Crayon Shin-chan movie franchise has revealed the title and release date of its 19th installment. Eiga Crayon Shin-chan: Arashi o Yobu Ogon no Spy Daisakusen (Crayon Shin-chan the Movie: The Golden Spy Mission) will open in Japanese theaters on April 16, 2011. Soichi Masui, who storyboarded movies 13, 14, and 15, will direct.

Media Blasters Acquires MazinKaizer SKL

Media Blasters has announced its acquisition of domestic distribution rights to the MazinKaizer SKL OVA series. The series’ 3 episodes will hit Japanese home video on January 28, February 25, and March 25. The complete series will be released on one domestic DVD next May. A domestic Blu-ray release will depend upon the series’ release in Japan. MazinKaizer SKL is the latest installment of the 2001 MazinKaizer OVA spin-off from Mazinger Z.

New Novel Adaptation Trailers

Kadokawa Shoten has released an initial trailer for the anime TV series adaptation of Kazuki Sakuraba’s mystery novel series Gosick (“Gothic”), and a trailer for the TV anime adaptation of Shinichi Kimura’s supernatural adventure light novel series Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? The Gosick anime will premiere on January 7. Zombie will follow on January 10.

Nekogami Yaoyorozu Anime Announced

Champion RED Ichigo magazine has announced the development of an anime TV series based on FLIPFLOPs’ supernatural gag comedy manga Nekogami Yaoyorozu. The manga revolves around Mayu-sama, a cat-god who lives at Yaoyorozu-do, a local antique shop frequented by customers that include other goddesses. The manga launched in 2007 and has 3 compiled volumes so far, along with four drama CDs starring Rie Kugimiya and Mai Nakahara.

Yipee! After Macademy Wasshoi, Kyouran Kazoku Nikki, and Asobi ni Ikuyo, I’m all in favor of more anime starring cat-girls.

Chocola no Mahou Anime Announced

The advertising obi found on new copies of the third volume of Rino Mizuho’s shoujo horror manga Chocola no Mahou ~ The Magic of Chocolate reveals that the series is getting an anime adaptation. The manga series stars Chocolat Aikawa, a mysterious girl who runs a chocolate shop and fulfills wishes for troubled patrons provided they give up something precious in exchange.

Ikoku Meiro no Croisée Anime Announced

Dragon Age magazine has announced the development of an anime TV series adaptation of Hinata Takeda’s historical romantic drama manga series Ikoku Meiro no Croisée (“Ikoku Meiro no Kurowaze”). The manga is the story of Yune, a young Japanese girl who works at a craft store in late 1800s Paris.

Maken-Ki! Anime Announced

Dragon Age magazine has announced the production of an anime based on Hiromitsu Takeda’s romantic comedy manga Maken-Ki! The fantasy harem comedy revolves around a teen boy with seemingly no magic power who attends a school where students use magic and magical items or weapons called “maken” to battle each other. The ongoing manga series premiered in 2007 and presently has 5 compiled volumes.

R.I.P. Irvin Kershner

87 year-old director Irvin Kershner passed away on November 29. The director of films including The Flim-Flam Man (1967) and Eyes of Laura Mars (1978), Kershner is best known and most respected as the director of 1980′s Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back.

Rest in peace, my good man.

Ask John: Why Are Some Openings & Endings Not at the Beginning & Ending of Shows?

Question:
Why are recent animes like Star Driver and Digimon Xros Wars making it a habit of showing the supposedly “Opening Theme” ten to fifteen minutes into the episode rather then in the VERY BEGINNING?! This has been driving me nuts! (Please ignore my mentioning of Star Driver. It is not one of animes following the trend of delayed OPs.)
