FUNi Acquires Kuragehime & SoraOto F

Funimation has announced plans to begin simulcasting the current Princess Jellyfish (Kuragehime) television anime this Thursday and the current Heaven’s Lost Property Season Two (Sora no Otoshimono Forte) TV anime series this Friday. Crunchyroll began officially streaming the later series four weeks ago.

Koji Yamamura DVD Coming to America

Zeitgeist Films has scheduled a December 7 release for its Franz Kafka’s A Country Doctor & Other Fantastic Films DVD featuring 13 short independent anime from acclaimed animator/director Koji Yamamura. The DVD will include Yamamura’s Oscar nominated 2002 short Mt. Head (Atama-yama).

This should be a “must own” DVD for any animation fan that respects anime as something more than toy commercials and fan service.

Nana to Kaoru Anime Announced

The advertising obi found on new copies of the fifth volume of Amazume Ryuta’s 2008 manga series Nana to Kaoru reveal that both an anime OAD adaptation and a live action adaptation are now in development. The anime will be released on March 29, 2011 with limited edition copies of the sixth collected volume of the manga. The live action adaptation is tentatively scheduled for release next spring. The manga story originally serialized in Young Animal Magazine is the risqué story of a 17 year-old boy who develops a fetishistic S&M relationship with his attractive female childhood friend.

Cameron’s Battle Angel Delayed Again

Variety reports that director James Cameron has formally signed an agreement with 20th Century Fox to make Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 his next two directing projects. The contract will almost certainly necessitate that Cameron will not direct his long-in-development “Battle Angel” motion picture until at least 2016, after the planned release of Avatar 3.

American Densha Otoko Remake in Development

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Genki Kawamura, the producer behind the hit 2005 romance film Densha Otoko (Train Man), reveals that, “We’ve had about 20 remake offers — one of which is going ahead in Hollywood.”

3D Gamera Short Planned

Godzilla Versus The Smog Monster director Yoshimitsu Banno has confirmed plans to produce a 40 minute long Gamera 3D film for a spring 2012 Japanese IMAX and regular theatrical release. The movie’s release will tentatively coincide with Legendary Pictures’ forthcoming American Godzilla movie.

Ask John: Should Anime Distributors Go Sub Only?

Question:
Do u think that sites like madman and other anime company’s would make more money it they only English sub Japanese anime straight to dvd and later on bring out a English dubbed version for non sub fans i figer most people watch it in jap any way most times if i by an anime series i change it to jap with subs what do u think.

Cat Shit One Coming to American DVD

Japan based IDA Entertainment has announced plans to self-distribute its Cat Shit One CG anime pilot on American DVD & Blu-ray via Amazon.com starting in December. A newly produced English dub for American viewers will premiere on YouTube next month.

IDA Entertainment has also announced its completion of a stereoscopic 3D version of the pilot short. Distribution plans for the 3D version have not been finalized yet.

New Votoms Trailers Online

The homepage for the Armored Trooper Votoms anime franchise has added streaming trailers for the upcoming Armored Trooper Votoms Case;Irvine, Votoms Finder, and Armored Trooper Votoms: Lonely Once More (Soko Kihei Votoms: Koei Futatabi) OVAs. Case;Irvine will premiere on November 6. The first episode of Votoms Finder will debut on December 4. The Koei Futatabi OVA will hit on January 8.

Appleseed Series is Back On

Micott & Basara, which produced the two CG Appleseed feature films and announced the never-produced Appleseed: Genesis television series, has now announced the development of a 13 episode CG Appleseed OVA series titled “Appleseed XIII.” The thirteen 22 minute episodes will also be compiled into two compilation films. The series will be an original adaptation of Masamune Shirow’s Appleseed manga, unrelated to the previous two CG movies. Takayuki Hamana (Toshokan Senso, Kemono no Souja Erin) will direct with Jun’ichi Fujisaku (Kemono no Souja Erin, RD Senno Chousashitsu) co-screenwriting, Takayuki Goto (Kemono no Souja Erin, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig) providing character design, and Atsushi Takeuchi (Appleseed movie) providing mecha design. Jinni’s Animation Studio (Blame! Prologue) will animate in collaboration with Production I.G.

Level E Anime Announced

Animate.tv reports that Studio Pierrot and David Production will co-produce an anime adaptation of Yoshihiro Togashi’s 1995 sci-fi comedy manga series Level E. The manga revolves around a young man whose roommate is a snobbish prince from an alien planet.

Yoshihiro Togashi is best known as the creator of Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter x Hunter.

Lotte no Omocha! Anime Announced

Japanese publisher ASCII Media Works has announced word that Yui Haga’s 2007 and ongoing romantic comedy fantasy manga series Lotte no Omocha! will be getting an anime adaptation. The manga stars a human man transported to an alternate world to potentially become a member of the princess’ harem.

Morita-san wa Mukuchi OAD Announced

The third volume of Tae Sano’s slice-of-life four-panel manga series Morita-san wa Mukuchi (Taciturn Morita-san) will go on sale in Japan on February 26, 2011 in a limited edition that includes an exclusive anime episode on DVD. The manga depicts the everyday life of an especially quiet high school girl.
