Illumination Entertainment Picks Up Pluto

Illumination Entertainment (Despicable Me), in partnership with Universal Pictures, has acquired the rights to tentatively produce a hybrid live-action and CG animation film adaptation of Naoki Urasawa’s award winning manga series Pluto. The manga is a mystery story set in a serious, dramatic vision of the world originally depicted in the late Osamu Tezuka’s Tetsuwan Atom (Astro Boy). Illumination Entertainment CEO Chris Meledandri said, “Naoki Urasawa has defined an imaginative world full of inventive action and adventure but it was his characters and heartfelt story that compelled me towards acquiring these rights.”
