Dororon Enma-kun Remake Announced

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Japanese publisher Kadokawa Shoten has announced the development of a new anime adaptation of Go Nagai’s 1973 horror adventure manga series Dororon Enma-kun. The manga was simultaneously serialized as a 25 episode 1973 television anime series. The 2006 OVA adaptation Kikoushi Enma (Demon Prince Enma) depicted the characters with more more mature bodies but actually wasn’t much darker or more risqué than the original ’73 anime was. The new television series will be titled “Dororon Enma-kun Meeramera.”

I was wondering if this series could somehow start a trend with studios animating an incomplete manga series and then reanimating the series once the manga is over, or was this just a special case? There are factors to consider: how long will it be, popularity of the series, and whether you would turn off fans if it was done too often. I was mainly wondering this because both Soul Eater and Claymore are still ongoing mangas that I really enjoyed and wouldn’t mind seeing the original creator’s story.
