Sentai Acquires Nyan Koi!

Sentai Filmworks has announced its acquisition of distribution rights to last year’s supernatural romantic comedy television series Nyan Koi! (“Meow Love”). The comedy revolves around a boy who hates cats who discovers that he must fulfill 100 wishes for cats lest he transform into a cat himself. The complete 12 episode series will be released in a single subtitled DVD collection on December 14.
Agukaru Episode 1 Online
Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010Independent animators Studio Puyukai has released the first 12 minute agricultural magical girl anime Agukaru onto YouTube. The episode is set in the eastern Japanese prefecture of Ibaraki and stars Sanae Baraki, a farmer’s daughter who transforms into the “agricultural angel” Baraki-chan.

Second Yumemiru Anime On-chan Series Announced

A second Yumemiru Anime On-chan television series will premiere on November 9. The Hokkaido based HTB television network mascot character first appeared in 1997 and starred in a 2003 anime film and a 2008 television series. The 2010 television series will continue the story from the point at which the 2008 series ended.

More Tono to Issho Anime Announced
Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010The official website for the Tono to Issho anime franchise has announced the development of a new anime production. An OAD adaptation of Ohba-Kai’s historical comedy manga was released last March. A television series of 90 second weekly episodes is airing now.

Legendary Pictures’ Producer Talks Godzilla
Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010Blogger Zennie62 has secured a nearly 7 minute long video interview with Legendary Pictures’ producer Brian Rogers regarding Legendary’s planned development of an American Godzilla movie. Rogers assures listeners that Legendary’s Godzilla reboot will be more faithful to the original Japanese concept of Godzilla than Sony & director Roland Emerich’s 1998 adaptation was. Rogers also reveals that Legendary’s Godzilla will battle one or more opposing giant monsters.

FUNi Acquires Kaleido Star: Legend of Phoenix OVA
Monday, September 20th, 2010FUNimation’s DVD release of the second season of the Kaleidostar television series will include the Legend of Phoenix: Layla Hamilton Story OVA. AD Vision previously distributed the second season of the Kaleidostar television series on domestic DVD, but the Legend of Phoenix OVA has never been officially released in America before. While the previously dubbed TV episodes will be re-released bilingually, the 50 minute OVA will be included as a subtitled-only DVD extra. FUNimation will re-release the Kaleidostar second season on December 28.

Ah! Megami-sama OAD Announced
Monday, September 20th, 2010The 42nd collected volume of Kousuke Fujishima’s fantasy romance manga series Ah! Megami-sama (Ah! My Goddess) will be released in Japan on February 23 in a limited edition that includes a bonus OAD. A!MG movie and TV series director Hiroaki Gohda will direct the new episode.
This is a nice surprise.

Vertical Acquires New Zombie Manga
Monday, September 20th, 2010Vertical has announced its acquisition of translation rights to Jiro Matsumoto’s 2009 manga Velveteen & Mandala (Becchin to Mandala). The single volume manga is the story of two teen girls that battle zombies in a post-zombie apocalypse Tokyo. The book will debut in English in August 2011.

Tokyopop Acquires New Yaoi Title

Tokyopop will release an English translation of Tomoki Hori’s yaoi anthology manga Crimson Snow (Ake Nure Goyo ni Furu Yuki wa) on March 1, 2011. The single volume was originally published in Japan in 2008.

Having recently discovered the “fake Mai-Hime Movie” trailer featured as an extra (omake) on one of the DVDs of the My-Otome TV series – if it were genuine, I’d buy the movie when it became available (lol) – as well as learning of a”fake” trailer for The Soultaker Movie (contained only on Japanese VHS or DVD), are there any other more noticeable examples of “omake” that come to mind?
Yosuga no Sora Teaser Online
Friday, September 17th, 2010The homepage for next month’s Yosuga no Sora anime television series has added a streaming teaser. The harem anime adaptation of the 2008 PC game from Sphere will premiere next month.
While this trailer doesn’t look especially interesting to me, its visual design is quite nice.
