Yozakura Quartet OAD Trailer Released

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

The homepage for the upcoming Yozakura Quartet: Hoshi no Umi OAD has released a streaming trailer. The anime will be released on October 8 with limited edition copies of the 9th collected volume of Suzuhito Yasuda’s manga.

I’m not feeling this. I prefer the TV series character designs. And this trailer feels like it’s too indebted to K-On.

Sasuga Calls it Quits

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

Cambridge, Massachusetts based Sasuga Japanese Bookstore announced last week that it has ceased operations as a result of “the current economic climate” and “changes in the international bookselling market” (presumably including consumers increasingly importing Japanese books and similar goods directly from retailers based in Japan instead of relying on American import companies). Sasuga was founded in 1993 and was a well known presence at major nationwide anime conventions.

Third Duel Masters Movie Announced

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

Evidently Japan’s Toho Pictures has just announced that next month’s first Metal Fight Beyblade movie, “Metal Fight Beyblade VS Taiyo Shakunetsu no Shinryakusha” (Metal Fight Beyblade vs the Sun: Sol Blaze, the Scorching Hot Invader), will be a double feature with the third Duel Masters feature film, “Duel Masters: Hono no Kizuna XX” (Duel Masters: Scars of Flame Double X). The double-bill will hit Japanese theaters on August 21. The homepages for both movies (linked above) include streaming trailers.

Am I alone in my surprise and amazement that the Duel Masters anime franchise is still ongoing?

Opening A Day

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

To refresh your memory or introduce you to an interesting opening animation sequence, I submit to you the spoiler free first opening of the Working!! television series from last April. The theme song is “SOMEONE ELSE” sung by Kana Asumi, Saki Fujita and Eri Kitamura.

Observant viewers will notice that the animation quality in this sequence is especially good. Look at Inami shaking Takanashi at :59, or how fluidly Kozue moves at 1:05, for example. Furthermore, little details like the follow-throughs on Inami’s punch at :30 and Kyoko’s kick at 1:25 didn’t have to be included but are. Really nice work on this OP.

I was wondering if you could recommend some that resemble them.
