Digital Manga Reveals New Acquisitions

Digital Manga Publishing has formally announced a selection of new acquisitions:

Hideyuki Kikuchi’s novels Demon City Shinjuku and its sequel, Kiba Ichizoku no Garyuudo
The Countdown 7 Days and Replica manga by Kemuri Karakara
Aki Arata’s shoujo gag comedy manga Houou Gakuen Misoragumi

The Juné line will publish:

Kazuma Kodaka’s Border and Kusatta Kyo Shino Houteishiki
Gochisosama by CJ Michalski
Boku no Shiru Anata no Hanashi by Tsuta Suzuki

And the 801 Media line of explict boy-love manga will publish Shushushu Sakurai’s Sabaku no Oujisama

Furthermore, Wedding Peach creator Nao Yazawa will be crafting a shoujo fantasy comedy manga series titled “Mizuki” specifically for distribution on Digital Manga’s eManga website.

15 Bishoujo Hyouryuuki 2 Opening Online

The full opening animation for next month’s 15 Bishoujo Hyouryuuki ~Doki Doki Harem Hen~ adult anime OVA is now officially streaming on Nico Nico Douga. The trailer doesn’t contain any graphic nudity or sex, but it’s still pretty provocative, so viewer beware. The OVA will hit Japanese DVD on August 3.

Ask John: Which Anime Have the Best Plot Twists?

Question:
Plot twists are not uncommon in anime, but sometimes they are underdeveloped or tacked on and feel more like a bait-and-switch than a truly well-planned idea. What would you cite as the best examples of this technique being used effectively? Which anime has used a plot twist the most times and still makes it feel genuine each time? Any examples of a twist ending being used effectively?

Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi OAD Announced

The premium edition of the fifth volume of Shungiku Nakamura’s boy-love manga Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi ~Onodera Ritsu no Baai~ (World’s Best First Love ~The Case of Ritsu Onodera~) will include a bonus 20 minute anime on DVD. Studio DEEN will animate the exclusive episode with Chiaki Kon (Hanasakeru Seishounen, Junjo Romantica) directing and Yoko Kikuchi (El Cazador, Junjo Romantica) providing character design.

An anime TV series adaptation of the manga about a rookie manga editor and his bossy editor-in-chief who were a romantic couple years before was announced last January.

Fourth Pocket Monster Series Named

TV Tokyo has announced the full title of the fourth Pokemon anime television series (not including Pokemon Sunday). Pocket Monster: Best Wishes will premiere this fall after the current Pocket Monster: Diamond & Pearl series concludes. The original Pocket Monster television series aired from 1997 to 2002. It was succeeded by Pocket Monster: Advanced Generation, which aired until 2006. The current series launched in 2007.

The preview image suggests that “Best Wishes” will introduce new protagonists.
