Aniplex USA to Rerelease R.O.D.

Aniplex USA has announced plans to release a domestic Blu-ray boxed set containing the complete R.O.D. anime franchise this winter. The bilingual five-disc set will contain the 3 episode OVA series from 2001 and the 26 episode sequel television series from 2003.

The OVA series was previously distributed on American DVD by Manga Entertainment. The TV series was previously distributed on American DVD by Geneon.

    That’s odd. I could’ve sworn that the TV series disks languished for months in the Bargain Bin of one of AN’s competitors before finally going out of stock. Was there net demand I don’t know about, or is it generally regarded as a good series to rescue?

    I remember R.O.D TV as one of the most awfully boring TV anime in modern story.

    As much as I like Besame Mucho, I have to admit that their R.O.D. television series was a big disappointment. The OVA series is outstanding. The TV series has good animation and a couple of dynamic scenes peppered throughout its length. The TV series never really took off in America because it’s really not that awfully good, and because it was never re-released in a cheap edition. Even the “bargain bin” singles were still priced at the high end of “bargain bin.”
