Ask John: Who’s Got the Big Guns?

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex

Question:
Are there any anime characters with ridiculously overlarge guns? There have been characters like Cloud, Gatts, and Sagara Sanosuke who wield swords that are bigger than they are, but I can’t think of a character who carries a gun that fires 90mm bullets. The closest I can think of is Merowlink from the Armor Hunter Merrowlink OVA series – he carries an anti-tank rifle, which is long but not ridiculously large. Do you know of any?

Samurai_PV

Jerry O’Flaherty, art and cinematics director for the Gears of War video game franchise, has revealed his plans to develop a feature film titled “Samurai.” Reminiscent of hit film 300, Samurai will feature live actors and computer generated backgrounds. Specifically, the backgrounds will be rendered with the Unreal PC game engine.

Twitch hosts a short “proof of concept” trailer for Samurai, a trailer reportedly shot for under $1,000 and starring five volunteer actors.

Good? Bad? At the minimum, it’s interesting.
