Opening A Day

To refresh your memory or introduce you to an interesting opening animation sequence, I submit to you the Mousou Dairinin (Paranoia Agent) opening from 2004. Susumu Hirasawa performs the opening theme song, “Yume no Shima Shinen Kouen.”

I (one of) love Satoshi Kon’s reason(s) for commissioning such a loud and invasive track: he wanted to wake people up, because PARANOIA AGENT was broadcast so late at night. Makes sense to me.

That aside, what I think is great about this opening is the same thing I love about LAIN’s opening sequence… it’s a perfect fit for the emotional and psychological balance of the series. The manic and hysterical facade pretty much defines this anime.

The ra re ra bit reminds me abit of ‘Gats theme’ from Berserk.

Anyways I love this opening. Only watched half of this series online but
intend to watch the rest when I buy it ‘one of these days’…

    Yuki: Same composer.

Man, seeing that intro makes me realize “Paprika” isn’t the only thing which inspired Inception.

  4. Yuki Says:

GATS: Yeah; me being a big berserk fan I already know what other works Susumu Hirasawa had done!
