The homepage for the upcoming Mitsudomoe school comedy television series is now online and features the Tokyo International Anime Fair trailer. The series is scheduled to premiere in July.

Kind of looks like Ichigo Marshmallow’s evil twin.

Chinka Trailer Released

Independent anime production studio Mirai Fusion has released a short teaser for its first anime, Chinka.

It’s recognizable as independently produced anime, but I’m not saying that it looks bad. It’s certainly an interesting, unique concept. Ganbare, Mirai Fusion!

Anime Network Online To Simulcast Ichiban Ushiro no Daimao

The Anime Network has announced plans for a streaming simulcast of next month’s Ichiban Ushiro no Daimao (Number One Behind the Devil King) anime television series. Weekly episodes will be accessible for free to viewers that register for free access to the Anime Network website. The first episode will premiere on Friday, April 2.

The adaptation of Shotaro Mizuki’s supernatural comedy novel series revolves around Akuto Sai, a schoolboy whose dream of becoming a productive, responsible magic user is confounded by an aptitude test that reports his most suitable future occupation is “devil king.”

CR To Continue Streaming Six Shows

Crunchyroll has announced that its current streaming distribution of the Naruto Shippuden, REBORN!, Kaasan ­ Mom’s Life, Yumeiro Patissiere, Fairy Tail, and Durarara anime television series will continue through the spring. Naruto Shippuden, REBORN!, Kaasan ­ Mom’s Life and Yumeiro
Patissiere will continue to have new episodes available as they have been. New episodes of Fairy Tail will be available to paying Crunchyroll subscribers only for 30 days after each episode’s online premiere. Durarara episodes up to 24 will be simulcast on Crunchyroll weekly. Home video exclusive episodes 25 & 26 will be streamed on Crunchyroll on the same day they’re released in Japan.

Tegami Bachi: Letter Bee will be removed from the Crunchyroll website. However, the series’ second season will simulcast on Crunchyroll when it premieres this fall.

Highschool of the Dead Trailer

Japanese publisher Kadokawa has officially added the Gakuen Mokushiroku ~ High School of the Dead anime series trailer to YouTube. The adaptation of Daisuke Sato and Shouji Sato’s horror adventure manga will be animated by Madhouse and directed by Araki Tetsuo (Death Note, Kurozuka).

SOS-dan Appears in Gum Commercial

A Japanese TV commercial for Lotte’s Acuo gum starring actor Toma Ikuta (Akihabara @ DEEP, Honey and Clover) co-stars animated characters from the Suzumiya Haruhi no Yutsu anime franchise: Haruhi Suzumiya, Mikuru Asahina and Yuki Nagato. The ad depicts Ikuta’s “nice” breath, well, just watch the commercial.

The ad will officially begin running on Japanese TV April 5.

This really is a bit bizarre. What, exactly, is the commercial suggesting? 2D women are better than 3D? A cat is fine too?

Magic Kaito Special Clarified

Japanese publisher Shogakukan has clarified that the mysterious “Magic Kaito” anime program that broadcaster Animax mentioned earlier this month will, in fact, be the first anime adaptation of Gosho Aoyama’s 1987 manga predecessor to Detective Conan. The 30 minute special will air on April 17 with repeat broadcasts on the 18th and 25th.

4Kids Threatened with Delisting from NY Stock Exchange

The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) has warned 4Kids Entertainment that the children’s entertainment distributor may be delisted from the stock exchange as a result of its market capitalization falling below the $75 million minimum required to be listed on the NYSE. 4Kids Entertainment presently distributes English language adaptations of anime series Yu-Gi-Oh, Sonic X, and Dinosaur King (Kodai Oja Kyoryu King D-Kids Adventure), and the live action Japanese series Kamen Rider Dragon Knight (Kamen Rider Ryuki). 4Kids has been steadily losing money since at least 2008.

FUNimation to Serve up Kuroshitsuji

FUNimation has formally announced its acquisition of distribution rights to the 24 episode Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler) anime TV series that originally aired in Japan in 2008. The adaptation of Yana Toboso’s manga tells the story of a turn-of-the-century era 12 year old lord whose loyal butler is actually a demon. The original manga is distributed in English by Yen Press.

Adult Swim to Air Kekkaishi

Adult Swim will begin broadcasting the 2006 Kekkaishi anime television series on May 29. Viz Media publishes Yellow Tanabe’s original Kekkaishi manga and has been streaming the anime TV series adaptation online since January.

Chinka Homepage Launched

The homepage for the bishoujo firefighter anime Chinka is now online. The anime is the first production from new independent production studio Mirai Fusion, the studio launched by British computer programmer & otaku living in Tokyo, Danny Choo.

I’ll admit that I was a bit tentative about this when I first heard of it, but the website looks quite promising.

Legendary to Resurrect Godzilla

Legendary Pictures (300, Watchmen, The Dark Knight) has acquired the rights to produce a new American Godzilla movie from Japanese master licensor Toho. The film will be a relaunch of the Godzilla franchise in America, not a sequel to director Roland Emmerich’s successful but widely panned 1998 Godzilla movie. Legendary hopes to have the film ready for release in 2012.

China’s Impact on Anime Increasing
